Worst resort experience I've ever had!
To start, this place is huge and feels like a maze just trying to get anywhere. Our stay came off as a greedy attempt to squeeze every possible dollar out of guests while cutting corners everywhere they could. The food was incredibly bland, the staff seemed unhappy, and as a result most interactions were unhelpful. If you are not a “premium” guest, prepare to be treated like a lower-class citizen. The information desk attendant actually scoffed when we tried to make a dinner reservation. There is no poolside food service, which is strange for a resort of this size. You have to go to a buffet to eat, which means leaving the pool area and putting on shoes and a shirt just for a meal that is not even worth it. The buffet looks good at first glance, but everything tastes flavorless, like they are rationing salt to save money. If you want a towel but are not at your “assigned” pool, too bad. You will need to walk 15 to 20 minutes back to your own resort area just to get one. The room issues made things worse. The hair dryer did not work, and it took over four hours for maintenance to show up after we called. On our last night, the electricity went out in our room. We reported it before heading to a wedding and came back six hours later to find it still broken with no follow-up. When I went to the front desk, they claimed they had offered us another room, which was not true. When I asked to speak to a manager, I was told there was no management on site at that hour. At 2 a.m., they told us to pack up in the dark and move to a room on the third floor. We spent the next 45 minutes using phone flashlights to pack while the front desk attendant stood by watching. We did not get to sleep until 3:30 a.m. It was the worst hotel experience I have ever had. The few positives: The gym was genuinely nice and easily the best part of the stay. The room was clean and the beds were fine. There seemed to be plenty of activities for kids. Overall: Save your money. This resort is not worth it. From the food to the service to the overall experience, you will get far better treatment and value somewhere else.

Barcelo Colonial
This was our second time staying at Barcelo. Our first visit was for a family wedding and we stayed at Tropical. This time, we stayed at Colonial and booked the Premium package directly through the hotel. The Junior suite was spacious and we had a very nice view of the pool and beach area. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. There are many restaurant choices and the food is fresh and tasty. Overall, we were very pleased with our stay.

Fabulous stay even though we had some rain and cloudy days. We are discussing a return trip next year to possible check out the Palace.

The best hotel and people
The best hotel you can book. Everything is perfect from check in to the check out. Staff is professional, rooms are clean, lots of choices of good food , amazing beach and clean swimming pools. Special thanks to people from security department. They deserve 5 stars handling the problems our drunk son caused. We apologize for that and really sorry for the inconvenience. Thank you all good people from Mexico and hope to come one day again.
