Hotel is beautiful but service was poor
Hotel was beautiful but overall not worth the stay. Staff were super snobby and unwelcoming. Every time we went to eat, we were never attended well once you were sat down at a table. If you wanted a water refills, utensils, etc. you had to get up and get it yourself. We had to the same in the pool and beach not once did we have a staff come take our drink orders. We would need to walk to the bar to place an order ourselves. There was also one night our room was not clean and we were not given an explanation or anything as to why it was not done. Also during our check out they were giving us such a hard time about the pool towels. Not sure if they were doing this to charge us a fee for them but turns out we were right and they did not have the decency to apologize. We did not feel well service during our whole stay. Probably only 3-4 staff interactions were actually good which is very poor for a high quality hotel like this. Will never come back and definitely never recommend to any of my friends and family.

Family vacation
Overall we were very happy with the hotel, while our room didn't have any issues the other family that we were with had some minor leaks from the light and mini bar fridge, otherwise all was good.

Great vacation, just a little sore
Family had a great time. Enjoyed the whole resort, food, beach, pool, immaculate grounds. The only dislike was the room furniture and TV’s same for the past 20 years. Remodel please.

Good value makes up for some shortcomings.
Just got back from Barcelo for the first time with my wife and kids (5 and 8) . We previously did Iberostar Lindo and Maya. Things better at Barcelo: Beach (harbor keeps waters calmer, even though sargassum was present which it would be at a lot of resorts in this area), snorkeling, Value (price was better at Barcelo in our case), Rooms (SUPER clean, up to date. Some where and tear staying at Colonial Premium, but overall A/C was excellent and room was immaculate), Room and Pool Locations (closer to the water), Mall (Iberostar didn't have that when we went, or it was closed, and it had extras like mini-golf, bowling, shopping, casino, etc), Coffee machines 24/7 that were conveniently in many places, Free small catamaran experience, access to Cenotes across the street, kids pool (free) was excellent and very convenient if staying at Colonial premium) Things better at Iberostar: Food (both buffets and ala carte), Service for Food and Drinks (service was slow, not well staffed, or not as good at Barcelo), Entertainment shows, Kids Club was WAY better, Partying at the pool was more exciting, the app and information about where to go and what to do, Wave pool + lazy river, free golf cart rides to get you around to other parts of resort faster, distance to airport (15-20 minutes vs. Barcelo 1 hour), Eating at the pool or beach. (there would be service to your beach chair if you'd like) Equal: Pools, Drinks (Barcelo Premium), chair hogs,
