  Disappointing vacation, food was average at best.

  The food was average at best, drinks were watered down. Needs a lot of attention, 2 elevators have been down for weeks. Not near enough chairs or loungers for a full resort. Even though notifications were put in the rooms stating no saving chairs before 8 am, it made no difference. Staff were great.

  Great All round resort

  This resort was wonderful. Here is my overall view of the resort. Location: The location is on a beautiful beach with a view of the beach. If you go down to the gate attendant you can get a taxi for 100 pesos to most of the areas like La Crucecita. It was more to La Bocana beach which is the surf beach and you shouldn't miss. This is where they do the mud baths and is a beautiful walk. Safety. This resort is gated and there is someone controlling in and outs of even taxis. Then there is a second check as you walk up the stairs. Lifeguards at the beach were present throughout the days. Atmosphere: The animation team was great. We are always impressed with how hard they all work. We participated in the leave a book take a book, book exchange, volleyball and water aerobics. All lots of fun. Special thanks to Israel for all your energy! The pool area is clean and has three separate pools to enjoy. Chairs are still a rush to find and save one. They said they would remove towels after a period of time not in use but we never saw this happen. We still managed to find a couple if we came late. The Huatulco area is packed with things to leave the resort to do so we thought that perhaps people didn't use them as much as in some resorts. The beach club has rentals of Kayaks, Catamarans and snorkels for free. We would have loved if they also had paddle boards but can see the issue with the waves. There is decent snorkelling at the rocks and if you climb them to the second more secluded beach (you may want to wear water shoes as you are climbing rocks in an easy climb) there is much better snorkelling. The beach club snorkels will work but we pack our own as better snorkels improve your experience. Restaurants: We went to all the buffets and restaurants with the exception of the Japanese as our friends do not like sushi. The Italian is a very nicely appointed restaurant that could rival many high end restaurants. The food quality is good in all restaurants. The buffets are monitored closely for food temperature and we noted people checking on the food in the buffets regularly. Our favourite was the pool bar and choose this one primarily for breakfast and lunches as it has a stunning view of the beach. Coming from a cold climate we always try to maximize our time. Rooms: Our room was comfortable and so were the beds. We asked for a king and were told we had two doubles which is not our preference. There were ok to have the beds pushed together. The hotel is kept very clean. Our room was cleaned each day and housekeeping is very responsive. It is a bit strange that glasses at the pool were not picked up quickly nor plates and glasses outside the rooms were left in hallways given the level of cleanliness everywhere else. Our room was quiet at night.

  Winter Escape at Barcelo, Huatulco

  We enjoyed our respite from Canadian winter reveling in the consistent warm weather, sea breezes, refreshing waters in the bay, sand in our toes, snorkeling, birding, making new friends and eating too much. However, Barcelo is still an average resort that's a bit dated and could be improved in various ways. Best features were friendly staff, whose Zapateco greeting of Padiuxi is memorable.

  Wonderful holiday with great friends.

  - Grounds clean, maids good, beds comfy, front desk helpful, food ok some very good, buffet food outside was cold at 6:30 opening and went fast (coconut shrimp and tortilla soup at Agave was excellent) - Pools clean and warm - Beach - quite sloped so difficult to walk on half of it. Water warm and good for swimming. Snorkelling out front around the rocks. - Staff shout outs - Ana and Herlin at La Tortuga, Alvero at pool bar, Edgar, Tomas and Octavio in dela Rosa buffet, Carmen in lobby bar Issues: - Need more king bed rooms - not enough shade chairs - have to be out before 7 am to get them and then stay there until after 8:00 to hold them - More beach palapas or umbrellas needed - Reservations not automated - long waits to book every Sunday - Elevator not working only one for whole side of building and stairs not well lit - Fixtures dated/bathrooms - Check out is 12:00 and you can’t keep your wristband for food. Have to hang in the lobby but can use the shower in the spa.

  Beautiful resort

  I would definitely go back. Great service, quiet resort, clean, ocean off the beach was amazing, snorkeling right in the bay. Food was ok, but not exceptional.
