first class holiday at the fives beach Playa Del Carmen
Stayed in the fives beach late november early december 2025.Fabulous holiday despite all poor and negative reports on trip adviser and other platforms which worried us before we left the uk. One bedroom penthouse was a pleasure especially the rooftop tub.Very spacious and well maintained apartment which was huge.Great choice of food from all restaraunts especially the buffet and pop up food courts. All drinks good quality with fast and efficient service wherever you were.Wild life very interesting especially spider monkeys with babies on their backs, Only one minor complaint. The beach was poor compared to British beaches, Too many rocks and some very course sand which made it somewhat dangerousll Pools very clean especially the main pools and the adult only pool. Finally, all the staff were outstanding, helpfull, happy and friendly and i could not praise them enough. Special mention to Martin and I.sreal who served in various places and went to great lengths to see that we were well looked after. Finally,do not be suspect of this complex as it is a first rate holiday complex and we will return if possible at a later date.

Half Good/Half Bad
I have mixed feelings about our stay here. The pros: The service was excellent. Everyone went above and beyond to be kind and make sure we were happy. One morning for breakfast one of the cooks even went out of his way to make one bowl of oatmeal without milk (I have an allergy) just for me when I hadn’t even asked. The beach area and pools were great. We went around 10am each time and always found seat. Our room and the grounds were very clean. The cons: The rooms were dry dated and looking run down. Stains on the ceiling and walls. Just not very comfortable or nice. The food was AWFUL. And I don’t just mean it wasn’t very good. It was actually bad. A few times we didn’t even finish what we ordered. The Thai restaurant was ok, compared to the rest. The room service menu was so bad.

Don’t come here if you want to eat
Mixed review I’m afraid but an honest one Hotel itself is nice with beautiful grounds and a lovely main pool area Rooms are spacious and cleaning staff in every day with fresh towels and bedding Staff are great. Polite courteous and helpful However Not enough sunbeds. If you’re not by the pool for 6-30 you aren’t getting a sunbed There are loads and loads of Bali beds. At $150 a go per day This might be the reason for the lack of sunbeds 🤔🤔 A la carte restaurants. What a joke You can’t make reservations but on arrival get asked if you have a reservation It’s first come first served Tried 4 nights running to get in but gave up after about an hour Told at the Italian that it was a 15 minute wait just to get a buzzer After 40 minutes told there is no buzzers left and 20 families ahead of us in queue I choose my holiday hotels based on a couple of requirements. A la carte choices is one of them. This is the worst hotel I’ve ever been for getting food. The buffet restaurant seems the only option and the food is very limited. I understand we are in Mexico but not all English children want spicy food and an option for younger children should be standard. They know their customers surely They claim to have so many a la cartes but in reality some of them are them same restaurant but serve different food at lunch to evening so claim 2 restaurants If you’re a foodie and this is the reason you pick this hotel DONT You will be disappointed One final gripe. The only bars open on the entire hotel after 8pm are the gin bar which holds about 30 people and the catina bar which can hold about 50. After that you’re sat outside in the plaza Not what I’m used to for 5 star

Excellent week of relaxation!
Very impressed with this resort. I have been to Mexico for work 15 times, only once for a holiday. I got sick 14 of those times. One time I didn't get sick when I was pregnant, the other time was staying at this resort. I drank the water they served me in glasses, as well as the drinks with ice in them. I ate raw fruits and vegetables and no problems!! The facilities were very clean, room, restaurants, even the walkways outside, very well kept. The staff was very friendly, I know they are payed to be, but it seemed that most of them were genuinely nice people. We had 2, 1 bedroom apartments, well appointed, comfortable beds, clean bathrooms. Waits for the speciality restaurants were long, then one night we went to the buffet for dinner, and that was it. The dinner buffet was excellent, lots of food choices, a relaxed atmosphere and no waiting! We rented bali beds for the days we were not doing excursions and I think it was worth the extra money. We were very close to the ocean, I appreciated the shade, and we didn't have to get there at 8 am to put towels on the lounge chairs (which I understand is a problem at all resorts). The staff in the area of the bali bed were really amazing people. Most days we were looked after by Pablo, and he made the trip even more fun. Super attentive, good natured fellow, always a smile! My two adult boys enjoyed the gym, basketball court, and the cocktails. They were happy with the food choices, quality and quantity (especially the breakfasts in the buffet). Wifi was fast, no problems with that. I have nothing negative to say about this resort. Expect your ambassador to want to give you a tour of the facilities (they sell "residences"), we said no thank you and he was ok with that - but if you do take the tour you get some nice freebies ;).

Good resort hard to get into the restaurants
We are here over New Year’s with a group of 22 people, so we understand that reservations it’s a busy holiday week. The new years celebration was amazing. Rooms are spacious resort is nice overall. The main downside has been the restaurant reservations process. We have tried endlessly to figure out dining options and have been repeatedly told that our ambassador would contact us — which has never happened. Our group includes multiple people with serious dietary restrictions, including nut allergies, egg allergies, and vegetarians. Because of this, dining in the main dining hall or buffet has been a difficult experience. We were told that because we are staying in penthouse suites, reservations should be arranged for us, yet we have been sent on a constant runaround with no follow-through. The two nights we somehow managed to get reservations at the Koh Thai and Mexican restaurants were good. I truly hope the resort can rectify this process for future guests.
