5 star resort - but has a few issues.
We just got home from a one week stay @ The Fives. 2 Adults and 2 teen girls. We arrived late at night so most things were shut down for the day with the exception of 2 bars and room service. We ordered room service at 11;30 and got our meals at 1am Rooms - they are ok. We opted for the "deluxe room" option with our travel company - it's just a standard hotel room. We had two double beds, and the usual amenities. I believe our building has not been renovated yet but we didn't spend much time in there anyways ( Villa 3 ). We had daily maid service and clean towels daily. Food - this is what this resort is known for - their extensive menus. They have 2 breakfast buffets. Omlettes, fruit, pancakes, meats, baked goods = all the usual things! Lunch - the buffet is closed so you have the option of a few sit down places or they have 4 outdoor beach places. There is a taco place, a pizza place, a bbq area with burgers and dogs and a ceivche area. Supper - the buffet is not open every night. And there are no reservations for a la carte dining unless you are a member. So you have to go stand in line and get a buzzer. We never waited more then 45 minutes to be seated. The food was always good - unless you had allergies. Where I found there to be issues was with Gluten Free options. My daughter and I both are celiac and we chose this resort based on others reviews of it. The front desk gave us an allergy card to show to the hostesses and we packed one of our own as well. Although they tried hard to offer GF options - we were glutened multiple times. For example the Minestrone soup in the Italian restaurant is marked as GF but came out with wheat pasta in it. The sauce on our steaks from the french restaurant made us sick after the chef told us that sauce was safe for us to eat. One day we were told the corn tortillas were ok to eat, the next day we were told they were not? It was very inconsistent dining. The cooks at the beach and the cooks for Mexican Fiesta had no idea when asked if the burgers / dogs / sausages had wheat in them. Where we did find great service was in the buffet The manager (Edier) was able to get the kitchen to make my daughter gluten free crepes every morning for breakfast and I had plenty of options to choose from right in the buffet. When we went for supper the head chef came out and took us to every dish on the buffet to tell us what we could and could not eat. We never got sick eating in the buffet, we did at the a lo cartes. The morning buffet also had a GF area with breads and baking so we would always take a few things back to our room for later and the staff were great at allowing that. One thing I noticed on 3 separate occasions was the mis-use of cooking utensils on the "grill". I watched more than one chef use the same tongs he was picking up the raw meat with, and within seconds used the same tongs to pick up a cooked piece of meat & put it on someone's plate. Despite having multiple cooking utensils on the grill - they were only using one! We noticed this at the Mexican Fiesta night after we had already eaten and sure enough my husband was sick that night. We never ate off the grills again - please be careful!!! Entertainment - in the evenings was always great! They had at least 2 events lined up per night and the plaza is always buzzing with things to do~ I would say the daily activities staff were more geared to the younger kids and not the teens but they did have plenty of things on the go at any given time. Beach - has rocks - but its 3 steps and you're back in the sand. We snorkelled under the pier on sunny days and there are a million fish to see! We did have sargassum issues on 3 of the days but it was due to the wind blowing it all in. Otherwise it's nice turqoise water! Lounge Chairs - there are plenty on the beach and not so much around the beach pool. The pools more inside the resort had tons of un used chairs every day and are the quieter pools. The staff are great at not letting people reserve chairs = HOWEVER! We were actively sitting at the pool one day and had been using our chairs for over 3 hours. We got up to go have some lunch and when we came back all our belongings were gone! She said that because we had been gone more than 15 minutes we loose our chairs! When asked how do we go eat? Or take the aerobics class in the pool? Or go for a dip in the ocean then - she had nothing to say? Needless to say - we never had lunch as a family after that and stayed close to our chairs as they will just pack up your stuff and let another family in if your butt is not physically using the chair! Otherwise this resort is lovely. The grounds are beautiful and they have a ton of staff working and we had a great week despite the stress of trying to eat Gluten Free.

Four star premises, three star beach and rooms
We stayed four nights in building 14 on the highest level, and unfortunately the room did not meet five-star expectations. The unit was noticeably outdated and somewhat run down. The bathroom design was problematic: the glass doors for the toilet and shower clearly need a makeover, and the shower leaked badly, with water flowing outside the shower area. We had to place towels on the floor due to excessive water accumulation. Lighting throughout the room was very poor and insufficient. We also noticed rusted areas on the tiles near the closet, which further contributed to the worn and neglected feel of the room. The air-conditioning thermostat was extremely difficult to adjust. Even maintenance attempted to assist but was unable to raise the temperature, leaving the room uncomfortably cold at night to the point where we had to turn it off completely. The beach area was another major disappointment. There was a significant amount of seaweed in the water and many rocks, making swimming unpleasant. Overall, it was one of the least attractive beaches I have experienced and did not align with the expectations set by the property’s rating The positive: The premises were gorgeous and very well maintained. I really liked the layout of the property—it feels like a nice, well-designed community. The main area, where most of the restaurants and entertainment are located, was modern and very well done. We did not have any major issues with restaurant reservations. The only challenge was that, as a group of about 10 people, our reservations were sometimes scheduled later in the evening. The food at the restaurants was very good for an all-inclusive resort, and we had no negative dining experiences. Service at all restaurants was excellent; the waiters were knowledgeable, attentive, and helpful. On a few occasions, the wine we ordered was not available, but the staff always offered good alternative recommendations. The entertainment was enjoyable; however, it usually ended around 10:45 p.m. It would have been nice to have live music until midnight, as by the time we finished dinner, most of the live performances were already ending. Overall, I wouldn’t return to this resort. I found it quite far from Cancun, with about a one-hour drive, and it simply didn’t have the “wow” factor for me. Since it is a timeshare property, owners clearly receive priority and certain advantages. If the rooms or the beach had been outstanding, it might have been worth it. For me, the room quality and the beach are top priorities when choosing a resort—I don’t travel to spend most of my time at the pool. That said, I do have to mention that the pools were beautiful and very impressive.

No air conditioning
I’m here now. Air conditioning has been out for 2 days in multiple building and staff just keep saying it will be back on at a certain time but it doesn’t. My room is 24 degrees,

The Five beach hotel
Great location and only 1 hour from the airport. The atmosphere around the plaza was amazing and there was an adult only area with dinning for lunch which was amazing. All the staff could not do enough for you. We did two trips one to chichen itza and then another to Tulum including swimming with turtles. The only downside is that if you go to 5th Avenue it cost about 400 pesos each way. I would love a bus from the hotel which hopefully would be cheaper.
