First thing you should know about this resort is that it is run by RCI.
First thing you should know about this resort is that it is run by RCI. We traveled here in March 2020, yes, just before we knew what was about to happen. We had a non-refundable vacation through Costco Travel. So we went. We we in a 2 bedroom suite and had spend a good portion of our income on our vacation. It became apparent that the pandemic had hit the Dominican and people who could get out started leaving and new guest did not arrive so the resort started to empty out.RCI quickly stepped in to minimize their loses. They argue that their actions was for the safety of staff and guests. I seriously question whether the services that were not offered was in fact, for the safety of the guest or staff. I do however, believe that services were not rendered to minimize the financial impact on RCI. The imposition of half measures and continuation of partial service made it clear that it was not for safety, but instead for cost savings. Considering how other in the vacation industry handled similar situations I will never vacation on an RCI property again. The staff have a heart, RCI do not just big hands to grab your cash. If you are lucky enough to have the resources to travel beware of RCI, your life and the life of your family may depend on it.
One of my best vacation!!
One of my best vacation!! Kids loved it. Even after one year, they still remember and talk about the fun they had there. Food was also great with lot of options. Overall excellent value for money!!!!!

Lovely well maintained older resort! Lots of positives and only a few complaints. I will start with the positives. Overwhelmingly our favorite part of the resort was not a thing but a person! Melissa Ventura, an Apple Concierge, is a whole lot of sunshine, energy, helpfulness and professionalism packed into a tiny little woman. She greeted us at registration and checked in with us numerous times throughout the week. If we had any concerns she immediately took care of them. Make sure you look her up, she is delightful. Registration was quick and easy (we did not do SunClub). Our garden view room was in building 11 (1107) on the ground floor with a shaded view of the large pool. We were very pleasantly surprised! The room was very clean and comfortable. A bottle of rum was waiting on the table! We had no complaints with our accomadations. The pool was very nice and there are a decent number of chairs but they could certainly use additional umbrellas. The beach is gorgeous with plenty of shade if you want it. The water is clear in front of the resort but not crystal clear. If you go left of the beach there is a nice little place to snorkle and the water gets much clearer. There is a bar/restaurant at the beach but they typically only had one bartender working so the line could get long. Make sure you have a BIG mug! Drinks were nothing special and were made as simply as possible. Our friends who were in SunClub definitly were able to get better drinks in the SunClub bar but IMHO better drinks were not worth the cost of the upgrade. The food was good. Actually, in comparison to a lot of all inclusives we have been to, the food was better than most. The main buffet is a little small and tends to get congested especially at breakfast. Our biggest complaint was how difficult it was to get a cup of tea or a coffee refill. It appeared that only one person was assigned to that job in each section and no one would help them. We enjoyed the asian, steak and beachfront specialty restaurants. The entertainment crew was definitely the weakest link at this resort. We have been to a lot of all inclusives all over the Caribbean and Mexico, yet I have never seen such an unanimated and unengaging group as at Sunscape. We involved ourselves in games at the beach and at the theatre that were hosted by employees just doing their jobs. No extra smiles, jokes or interacton. As soon as the activity was done, they bolted. One day the entire team performed a dance pool side. Only one performer smiled while dancing. When the music ended they huddled together laughing and left. It poured three days that we were there. No extra activities (bingo, dance lessons, contests) were added to the schedule. In fact, most of the entertainment crew was no where to be seen. They moved a couple of the beach games up to the theatre but nothing more. Everyone was just sitting around! The kids nightly entertainment was exactly the same sing a long everynight. No variation. I kept thinking all week that they need to send some of the entertainment crew to another resort to see how much fun it could be. I will give credit to the young man doing water aerobics at the pool, he genuinely seemed to enjoy that! One last concern, the towel guy! He would not let you replace a towel during the day. He would only give you a towel card to get a new towel the next day. I understand he was trying to help control the using of towels to save chairs and limit the abuse of the laundry folk but he was extreme. I watched him deny a little boy whose towel had blown into the pool and a woman whose towel had been pooped on by a bird. As far as excursions, we spent a day at Ocean World and had a blast! Swam with the dolphins, played with a sea lion and did the shak encounter. The Apple rep in the lobby offered the best package! We snorkled off the beach and rode one of the inflatables pulled by a boat in front of the resort. We wanted to parasail but everyday was too windy. You can get better pricing on the beach activities by dickering. Don't accept their first price quote. Overall, Sunscape is a very pleasant small resort that is a good value for the money. I will most likely return as there is a lot more of the area I wish to explore. I traveled with my husband and 13 year old daughter along with another couple.
My 16 yo daughter and I stayed for a week Feb 2020. The service was fantastic. Monica, our housekeeper was so helpful, as was the beach Consierge. Absolutely upgrade to VIP. Keep your phone on Wi-Fi setting and use the Sun Club. The water at the beachfront is full of sea grass, but walk to the left for about 10 minutes and the water is clear and beautiful. Avoid the spa. It is all negotiable and the prices are better on the beach. The beach Consierge will get you a good price.
Absolutley loved it
This place and the staff were amazing! we felt completely at home here! will definitely go back again! The food, entertainment, and accomadations were excellent as was the spa! beautiful beach, plenty to see and do
