Amazing holiday... Can't wait to go back

We're to start, Just got back today..... Our 3rd time to this hotel and again it was amazing... Staff are just so friendly I don't get the bad reviews about the staff they work in extremely hot weather but they are always friendly and speak as passing. Yes problems with the lifts at the moment but it's known and they are working on this... Food always plenty to choose from you don't go hungry just try the Jamaican food you will be surprised how good it is. The Italian we went to 4 times the first time are waiter was Robert and he went out of his way to talk to us every time we went in. Rooms the beds are so comfy with the best pillows cleaned every day with fresh towels. Pools and beach great as always, some great fish to see. Drinks some times could be more fizzy, the bar in the lobby I need to give a mention about one of the staff Shane Cole always looked after us with a smile such a credit to your team. I didn't get the name of our bell boy on arrival but every time we saw him he spoke such a great young man. Go to managers cocktails on a Monday such fun. Then there is the general manager not sure we're I'd start such an amazing lady winsome hooper-brown nothing is ever to much for her she is about approachable and goes above and beyond. We went out 3 times on trips used a taxi from the hotel lembert Gale (aka hilly billy ) ask for this guy he's fabulous made sure we saw everything I wanted to see and when we did trips asked if we wanted to visit towns near to were we'd asked to be taken . Will we be back definitely it's the people at this hotel that brings us back not the name of the hotel to say they are going through a take over and that in itself must be hard for them they didn't show it. Don't listen to the bad reviews make your own minds up. Honestly one of the days a guy moaned because they didn't have the tea he drinks at home forgod sake if you want everything you have at home stay there, he even had a touch saying it was to dark .... We were sat playing cards with the same light no problem at seeing. Quick mention to o'shane who we met the second time we went to the hotel he remembered us and spoke even came looking for us to make sure we were ok and everything we needed. Please look after the cats. Can't wait to be back .

Amazing Time will be back !

Amazing time at the Holiday Inn Jamaica despite the reviews. The rooms were clean and perfectly suitable for us could do with some modernising at some stage but had great aircon. Facilities were great beach was amazing with so many types of fish on our door step. Food was good can get busy at certain times in buffet restaurant, we went to Italian a few times which was very good. Jerk Chicken hut became my second home loved it there and staff were amazing so friendly. We visited 7 mile beach, Ricks cafe, YS Falls and boat trip looking for crocodiles all were so good just takes a couple of hours to get there but worth it. Would love to return one day to Jamaica and Holiday Inn.

    Never Again!

I’m so disappointed. I don’t know what others are used to but this is not it. First the check-in was horrible. My wife and I stood in line for over an hour. The entire hotel is hot. Almost like they don’t believe in a/c. All the bars and food shut down at 6 pm. There’s nothin to do after that. The room was hot. Bathroom rusted. The tv had one channel to watch. I felt so bad because my wife was so excited to celebrate her birthday. What a let down.

It's just ok. Will never return.

Went in mid-March. 2 adults, 2 small kids under 4. First impressions walking into the lobby was that the hotel was no type of luxury, which we already knew from the reviews but I still expected it to be a bit nicer in design than it was. The lowest star hotel we've ever stayed at was a three star hotel in Cuba and even that hotel was nicer looking than this place. With that said it didn't bother us too much, it was what it was. Next was check in. The line wasn't long but they literally took forever to process one guest's check in. And I mean for forever. Eventually it was our turn and the young lady I dealt with was wonderful. She even give us an upgrade to a Jr suite. I asked for one of the more recently renovated rooms and she chuckled. I didn't know why at the time but I think I figured it out after getting to the room. The room: we were in building three. The building in my opinion is very old and needs a lot of work. We took the elevator up which we realized after was more of the service elevator because the actual elevators at the front of the building were both out of service. We got to our door and a gentleman greeted us with a crib for our youngest. The only way I can describe what the crib looked like is to say it looked like a haunted crib you would see in Victorian era movie. The crib was a hard pass. Inside the room was spacious. There was a bed, a sitting area with a couch, chair and coffee table, a desk and chair, mini fridge and dresser with TV on top. There was also a small open closet section with a working safe and an even smaller bathroom right across from it. The room appeared clean for what it was. Sidenote: our maid was fantastic!!? Her name was Shari and she kept our room spotless. If you get her, you are in good hands and definitely leave her tip. She's worth every dollar. I did a bug check before we touched anything and found no evidence of bed bugs or any other type of bug. We did see a spider on the wall above the bed but that was about it. The furnishings in the room were not new, but more on the updated side. I would say a few years old. The bed was comfortable enough and the ac worked fine, initially. The ac crapped out on us on a few days but that didn't bug us, we like the heat. The bad of the room: the bathroom is ancient and small. It's a shower so bathing small kids was a nightmare. You could see rust and rot everywhere, even under the mirrors. The shower design was awful because water would pour out into the hallway every time we showered which explained some of the rot we were seeing. The sheets on the bed were most definitely not properly dried. They felt damp to the touch. There was literally nothing provided in the mini fridge, not even bottled water. We had to go to guest services to grab some. The tv didn't work at first but maintenance came rather quickly and got it going. The glass door to the balcony also didn't seem to work in terms of the lock. Finally, while chilling in bed on the first night, a wall painting literally just fell off the wall. Thankfully it was a canvas print so nothing was broken and also our kids we not in the area when it fell. You could see the 4 different holes that were poked into the dry wall over time in order to keep the painting up, however they never properly anchored it. Now I know why the front desk staff chuckled at the mention of a renovated room, because there is really no such thing at the Holiday Inn. All the rooms and buildings looked to be in the same shape. Resort: overall, apart from the room, the resort looked ok. Nothing special though. The pool was a nice size, the beach was right there, and then there was the island you could walk to. Seemed to have plenty of beach chairs, etc. If you want a covered beach chair though, be prepared to wake up at 6 am to claim a spot. Multiple people would put towels or other belongings on the chairs to lay claim. Pretty annoying because half the time you wouldn't see anyone sitting there for hours. We did end up finding a beach on the other side of building one by the seafood restaurant. It was always quiet and had plenty of chairs and covering. That became our favorite spot. Food: I'm Jamaican so I know what the food should taste like. Honestly, the food there wasn't bad. It has flavor to it and looked edible. The buffet for dinner seemed to have decent options and the hot pasta bar was a nice touch. For lunch, I found the buffet to be just ok. They have lots of options but nothing special. Breakfast seemed the most repetitive to me at the buffet. The omelet station was always good though. Overall the buffet was an ok experience, minus the one time I saw flies flying around everything at the lunch buffet. For the bar, the drinks were not watered down. I had one blue iced tea my first day which nearly knocked me on my ass. Not sure if that one bartender was just heavy handed. The rum punch was good too, kinda sweet but tasty and gave you a nice buzz. I didn't have a problem with any of the alcohol served. For the al la cartes, you have to go book a restaurant every morning at guest services. Not the best but not a problem. We also had to do that in Cuba. At all the other nicer places we stayed, there was always an app or you could book all your restaurants at the beginning of you stay for the week. All the restaurants open at 6pm (including buffet), so if your kids like to eat dinner at 5pm that's a no go. Also, no room service. I also don't think food is allowed upstairs. The Jamaican restaurant was just ok to me. I ordered the oxtail and my husband had the curry goat. The curry goat was better than the oxtail. The food wasn't anything to gush about but it wasn't bad. The Italian restaurant was good. I had the steak and it was delicious. The seafood pasta my husband ordered was also good. The interior of the Italian restaurant was also nicer that the Jamaican one which was open air and a bit hot. The Seafood restaurant was ok too. The salmon I had was delicious and the seafood medley my husband has was also good. This restaurant was also open air. It wasn't too warm but the bugs coming in were a nuisance. Kids club: on the one photo we saw before coming, it showed a whole park-like set up. This is false, there's only one set of swings and one slide. We honestly didn't even bother checking out the kids club because it looked so pathetic. This resort if they ever renovate properly should definitely invest in a better kid's park structure as well as a kid's pool with slides etc. Overall impression: for a 6 night stay with little kids it was alright if you don't expect much. Would I ever stay here again? Not a chance. They need to completely redo the entire resort, and I mean a complete renovation where they shut it down, because that's how much work would be needed to make this place even slightly better. If you are looking for a cheap vacation, sure chance it, but if you are looking for a good (average or above) vacation, I would spend the extra 1000 dollars and go elsewhere, because this will not be worth it and you will be disappointed.

Nice hotel, good for the price

We have just returned from a good stay at the Holiday Inn. This was our fourth visit here. The reason we return is because it has a lovely relaxed atmosphere. It's a lovely set up. Right on the beach. Lovely safe swimming pool, plenty of lifeguards. The rooms are a bit tired and could do with brightening up though. However, the rooms are very clean. Cleaner comes in daily. The room we had, had new air conditioning which was much needed. The safe worked perfectly. We were upgraded to a larger room with settee which was nice. Our room overlooked the tennis court and lovely view of the sea. Holiday Inn are being taken over soon so it will be interesting to see the new upgrades. One of the Managers said they would be looking to go up a star. I wonder if this would impact on returning guests. The thing about this hotel, currently, is it is cheapest of Montego Bay hotels and the standard is good for the price. If they upgrade a star and with the cost of any reburshments it may put this hotel in same price bracket as other hotels in area. Anyway although we have been back a few times, not as many as some guests who have been 47, 44, 30 odd times, we didn't like the food. God love them for trying but we cannot say there was any meal we enjoyed. It became a chore going down for our meals. We booked the Italian restaurant and we didn't enjoy what we ordered. But as I said that hasn't stopped us returning to Holiday Inn. However, unfortunately I found some of the staff a little off this time round. I walked past one of the staff possible management level. I said Afternoon and she just walked past without answering. On another occasion I walked past two women again looked like management level. I said Afternoon, one of them looked like she was trying to speak but her mouth was glued shut and the other one didn't answer. I think she may have been the first one I mentioned but not sure. I shouldn't let people like that bother me but it does override the good experiences with the staff. I would still recommend this hotel as it is. The price was good and we were out alot as we have family there. Not sure if I would return though I just felt like I was bothering some of the staff. Not all of them, some of them were nice. We await to check out the changes with the new owners.
