A great place just too far from all the action.

Everything was great however I requested that our rooms be close to each other, even gave our names to the receptionist. The rooms are far from most of the amenities and the carts could take forever to come. The spa was the icing on the cake! The beach is great and not busy at all. Lastly, book excursions by calling the hotel. If you use the website, you will be connected to folks in Mexico. Very inconvenient!!

    Some good some bad

We planed this trip for a high school graduation surprise for my daughter and booked two rooms. We did request that they were close together or at least in the same building and they were on opposite ends of the resort. They could not move us or accommodate us in anyway. It ended up being fine, but she is only 18. The all inclusive resort theme is new to Costa Rica. They are Marriott/Planet Hollywood pretty much only by name and appearance of the lobby. Nothing like the planet Hollywood in Orlando or anywhere else. The hotel is built on a peninsula with very mountainous terrain. There are many shuttles, and if you have patience to wait, you will eventually get one. Sometimes they are plentiful and sometimes they are not. I do not recommend this resort if you are elderly or have any kind of disability or trouble walking up hills. Very little lighting in the pathways and the stairs are few and far between and uneven. If you do not do the Star package, you aren’t allowed to make reservations and waits for restaurants are an hour to an hour and a half. We complained and they were very nice about it and made us reservations for the remainder of our trip at different restaurants, but after the second disappointment, we canceled the rest. Even if you have a reservation, you will still have to wait an hour for your food and will never get dessert. We waited 20 minutes both nights for dessert and it never arrived so we walked out. We ended up eating at the buffet every night. Not because the food was better, but because we were hungry. I do sympathize with them on trying to keep up with the amount of food Americans eat. But every morning I got to the buffet everyone cleared out the bacon already. The rooms are nice. Housekeeping staff is very good. Everything is clean. If you’re promised stuff in your room, make sure you get it. I did have to follow up on that because nothing we were promised was in either room. That was quickly remedied. Well, we got the bottle of champagne not the bottle of wine. The customer service is excellent. It’s helpful if you’re bilingual, but not completely necessary. The best part were the excursions. We went with amstar, which is on the resort property and did the full day tour of the volcano and rainforest. They served lunch, which was excellent. We went to Coco on a water taxi, booked with Carlos on the beach and the local food was really good. We never felt unsafe. We also did the snorkel excursion which I highly recommend. The entertainment is OK. I only saw the fire show and some things they do by the pool.

Amazing choice to spend your family vacation!

Ever since you arrive to the lobby, the way in which the entire staff welcomes you is amazing. Food in each of the restaurants is excellent! We keep on choosing this hotel to spend our family vacation 2 times a year! Special thanks to Adrian Gutierrez for being such a great host and professional and for always making us feel like home.
