Hotel is advertised as a 5 star establishment however is highly over rated. A 3 star at very best !!

My wife and I joined her sister and new boyfriend on a vacation the first week of February this year, to this resort which the boyfriend had visited a couple of years previous and enjoyed and recommended. Our flight with Air Transat, was uneventful, one of the smoothest we’ve enjoyed. Upon our arrival at the resort, it was noticeably dated, with cracked and missing floor tiles on the front stairs and the decor was quite out dated. Our check-in experience was not pleasant and the young man at the counter knew it. We had requested being in close proximity to my wife’s sister and friend, on the second floor with an ocean view. We were bluntly told there were no ocean views in the resort and that we we in block #38 and her sister was in block #9. On the map presented to us it was very obvious they weren’t at all close to one-another. As the crow flies, perhaps a quarter of a mile!!! I repeatedly told the young man what we had requested and expected but he kept saying there was nothing else available. Not wanting to lose my temper with him I told him in no uncertain terms that I was very unhappy with the situation and walked away to get our luggage. He came running after us and said he found us a different room that we would like. Turned out to be exactly what we had requested, 2nd floor in the same building as her sister!!! Surprise!!! But still no ocean view . Turns out there is no ocean view in this particular resort. We went to our room with plans to meet up later. The room was quite dated. There was no lock on the sliding glass balcony door, 2 wall lamps did not work at all, and the shower stall had at least 2 coats of caulking that was peeling from the walls and the hand held shower head attachment was broken and not able to be adjusted. I like a firm mattress, however the king size bed was as hard as a rock. We decided to make the best of it as the room was in the best location to be with our relations. Our first morning at the breakfast buffet set the tone for the whole week. There were no available tables that were set up, so we took an empty table and waited for a waitress. After several minutes none had appeared so I went and found one and asked for utensils and coffee cups and coffee for the table. It took about 5 minutes for her to get what we requested. This was repeated every day, at every mealtime. On the 4th day of our visit, we were informed at lunch that the buffet was only half open as they didn’t have enough staff to open the full buffet. On the positive side, there was ample food and plenty of choices to satisfy anyone’s hunger. Unfortunately, the steak, both at the buffet and at the specialty restaurant was like rubber!! And to make it worse there apparently was no such thing as a steak knife!! When we attended the Italian specialty restaurant, we were served our drinks and appetizers but then it was as if we were forgotten, our initial waitress was at the far end of the restaurant serving others and there was no one apparently working in our section. After. being there over an hour we flagged down a waitress in another section and asked what happened to our main course to which she replied “momento “. About 3 or 4 minutes later, a waiter and a waitress appeared with our dinners, which were definitely not hot. So much for an enjoyable meal. Over 2 hours in a restaurant without working A/C was ridiculous. Every day, except for the last 2 days, I had to either call or attend the front desk to ask that the room refrigerator be stocked with water and beers as was advertised. It took 4 days to get a couple of wash cloths. Midway through the first week, my wife’s sister and friend advised that their room hadn’t been made up and they called while we were there and we also attended the front desk to no avail. The room was not cleaned or made up until the next day. They also had to repeatedly call for water and beers. The best part of our holiday, was the beach itself! Beautiful white sand as far as you can see. Clear blue water. Even after attending the beach in the early morning hours , we never did get any beach lounges as they were saved by others long before we were even awake. In the evening, the resort entertainment crew performed. The first 4 days were repetitive dance routines with different costumes. Next, there was the magician show which was really well done and our last day, a miniature circus act which was also very well done. We all made comment, that no matter where we went or what the time of day or night, or what the occasion was, the music was at full blast… so loud it was difficult to converse without almost yelling!! It was very apparent that the place was very short on staff, and the staff they did have were not well trained, and didn’t show any enthusiasm in their work. Of all the diverse places we went, poolside, or bar areas, we were only approached once in a whole week to be offered a drink by a waitress. The rest of the time we went to the bars ourselves. When we go away on vacation, it is nice to be pampered and looked after..especially when the resort is advertised as a 5 star luxury resort. This was not the case ever at this resort! Our complaints to the front desk were not dealt with in a professional caring manner. We were brushed off and told it would be looked after even when we had previously complained about the same thing that had not been dealt with. The thing that stands out in my memory the most, that showed just how little the resort cared about their guests and the impression that we got was the main washroom in the main foyer beside the front desk. It was between the front desk and the main bar and obviously extensively used. I attended this particular washroom on just about everyday of our stay and usually on numerous times per day and it was always the same…disgusting… water and urine on the floor in front of the urinals, used paper thrown on the floor, no paper towels in either of the 2 towel dispensers on any of my visits, water all over the countertops and only once did I see a caretaker working there and he half heartedly mopped the floor and left . Not exactly an impression that I would want any guest to be exposed to. We observed staff spraying for bugs every morning and evening, but unfortunately my wife and I both were both covered in bug bites/welts by the end of the week, and in my particular case, I only attended the beach on one day. All in all, we were quite disappointed with the resort.

    I will never stay again.

I stayed in 5 different hotels Un bávaro beach an none were as bad and disappointing as this one. No clean plates, tables or dinnerware in the buffet. We had to search for a waiter everytime just for the basics like fork, water or napkins. And this was every day. Check in was bad, just a bad experience overall

Wonderful stay but take bug spray

We had a wonderful stay and would certainly return. We travelled with another couple and we all left with the same type of review. We were nervous after booking and reading the poor reviews but remembered most people only comment on the negative. Beach/Pool: The beach is very narrow so if you are looking for beach this shouldn’t be your top pick. It is very tight and crowded however there are a few pools to choose from and though we are up early to have a selection of loungers there were plenty to go around. The main pool was a lot more crowded. Bar service at the pool was wonderful as well. Sure you waited a bit but when you have dozens of people wanting fancy drinks it slows them down. The pool are was well maintained and kept clean. Room: The room was large and clean. It was not 5 star but the bed was comfy and the bathroom was clean. Then mosquitos are the only downfall. Though we brought citronella patches we did not have spray and we were eaten alive. BRING BUG SPRAY. The room was especially bad for this. Our a/c broke and service was quick to come and fix it, however they left the door open and likely made the itchy situation that much worse. We had housekeeping each day except one. Food and drink: A la cartes were good. Mexican, steak house and Brazilian. We never left hungry and the service was fun! Buffets were also great for all meals. I recommend the main buffet at lunch and skip the one near the beach. It was too busy. We found it was the pushy guests that made it a horrible ordeal. People (guests)can be very rude and impatient. If they are short on plates, relax more are on the way out. Plenty of options and the fresh fruit and veg are plenty. There are only coffee machines in the main lobby, no coffee bar. However it was typical to arrive in the morning and one or both would not be working. You can visit Bavaro for coffee but their machines were no different. Have a coffee in your room. We would often go up for a coffee mid afternoon and could always get one, and no line either. Bar service in the main lobby was busy and top shelf drinks are available there at an extra $. Snack bar is open for late eats as well as during the day if you are looking for a quick bar food. We arrived late and were able to get food and drink around midnight no problem. Entertainment is all around as well if you are wanting that. Resort: It’s a huge resort and there are plenty of people movers going so if you struggle to get around do not worry. We enjoyed the walks to wherever we were going. From main lobby to pool, perhaps 5 mins. Our room was nicely in the middle so it was perfect. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. Staff are always out cleaning and maintaining. Guest services: no issues. We had one request and it was quickly looked after. We had a great stay and would return…with bug spray. Upside: beautiful resort Downside: the mosquitos Top tip: if you are arriving late at night, grab a cab and beat the rush of people and multiple stops to drop off. We took a taxi for $40 and arrived in 20 mins.

Sux to be here for 2 weeks! Paying 5 star price for a 1 star!

Worst resort. 1 star. Buffet smells like sewage. Service is poor. Lack of cleaning standards for cutlery and dishes. Dishes in short supply. Many had large chips. We really miss the pre-covid staff (Pilar and company). They were fun and friendly. Too many mosquitoes everywhere! This is our 3rd & will be last stay here. Food is terrible- cold, mystery foods. Undercooked or overcooked meats Had "Dio" for 4 days from undercooked ground beef in sauce. Toilet in our room leaked during our 14 day stay. Best restaurant: Mikado. Excellent and "fantastico" server, Karen. Went there twice. Best lobby server: young girl with the 1000 watt smile.

    Bahia principe disaster

On the first day, we were held up four hours, waiting for our premium room to be ready. We finally got to the room. It was full of mosquitoes and still not very clean. Then we found out because of our late check-in. We were too late to make reservations to get food and could only eat the fast food garbage. Only after I asked many times that one good employee is name Wilson he is the only person who helped explain where to get food and what times you can eat and when and where the reservations are required. I have traveled many countries around the world and many resorts, and this one is just not up to the standard of world class. I would not stay here again.
