Fantastic hotel and stay
Just had a fantastic week at Now Larimar hotel which has recently been renovated. We went as Preferred members which was worth the upgrade. The hotel is lovely with excellent pools and general surroundings including the beach. Room was great. Food is excellent with lots of restaurant choices. We were really well looked after by Warnes, who ensured we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Entertainment was pretty good and better than average for hotels. Would highly recommend a stay at this hotel. The hotel was closing just a couple of days after we left because of the Covid-19 issue and I'd just like to pay tribute to the staff (most of whom were being laid off) for their excellent attitude and service even under these difficult circumstances - thank you to you all!
Poor service, big attitude
We stayed here for 10 days. Accommodations were clean. large and elegant. We purchased 2 rooms Oceanview and received partial view. Even the last unit had partial ocean view. This resort is long and a walk from the beach to the buffet or lobby is far. Restaurants are average for a 5 star resort (3 out of 5). Entertainment (2 out of 5). Drinks (2 out of 5) But what concerned me the most was the attitude. The people at this location are not humble and do not assist you well. To stay at this hotel is a fair sum but we had 2 rooms. Everyone believes that they are doing you a favour by letting you be there. That is a wrong attitude. Very ignorant. Tourism sustains that country. Some people are nice, I'm going to say most are nice, but this location must have found every person with an attitude..
Our NOW escape!
Going into our Now Larimar Punta Cana vacation we were very excited as we continued to read all of the very highly rated reviews from our fellow travelers. I don't recall ever going to a resort with so much positive buzz. The newly renovated resort met most of our expectations. The room was nice with an exceptional "partial ocean view" which we were very happy with. The room itself did feel a bit "cold" with regard to the decor. It was very plain. The pools and beach were very nice. The sand in this part of the world is as good as you'll find anywhere. There were lots of palapsm although weirdly, many of them were kind of located on dips and hills and not the bet for a flat chair. Everything about this resort king of shouts out "FOUR STAR" not quite making it to "FIVE". Service quality, food quality, etc., etc. all were solid but not perfect. Our only real complaint is the the whole "Preferred Club" push by the resort. We really resent going to a resort and then right from the start being treated as "second class" just because we don't wish to upgrade to the "Preferred Club". I don't know why resorts continue to do this. If they would just focus on giving us the best experience possible while we're actually there, then we would be more likely than not to return again and again, which is their real goal. I would recommend this resort to everyone despite that somewhat negative impression.
Best resort in the DR
Our stay started with the tour bus dropping us off at the hotel. We had booked preferred, so when we went to check in the person behind the counter walked us over to a room across from the check in counter, on the opposite side of the lobby; this was the preferred lounge. We were warmly welcomed and asked to have a seat and they offered us a drink while confirming our reservation. Our They then paired us with our personal concierge, Roberto Demen who took us to the buffet for a late lunch as our room was not ready. After lunch we returned to the lounge and Roberto took our bags and we headed out to our room. First, though he took us to the VIP desk... This resort is wonderful; however, the VIP desk is trying to get you to attend a breakfast and obviously trying to sell something. We were not interested, and did not enjoy this part of the check in process. We respectfully declined to attend the breakfast. Upon arriving at the room we had two double beds, we were disappointed as we had booked a King room for a week away. Roberto called the front desk and was able to move us to a King room, but it was not ready, so we stayed in the double for a couple of hours. We were then taken to a King adjoining room on the first floor, it had recently been painted. Long story short, the extra money we paid for preferred was well worth it, sure it got us access to a couple of private pools, but the true value was having access to a concierge like Roberto... He truly made our vacation, recognized issues before they became concerns and more than fixed them. He ended up getting us a perfect room and made this hotel stand out over any we had been to previously. There is some construction going on... That said it wasn’t really noticeable. The food was excellent, the service was great. There wasn’t an expectation of tips but they were appreciated. The Japanese restaurant had a teppanyaki experience that felt less than authentic and more like a production line. We tried it a couple of days later but just seated at a regular table and had one of the best meals of the trip. We liked the Mexican restaurant, the Italian restaurant was good, as was the American. They’re not all open at the same time, or at least weren’t while we were there. We didn’t make it to the French one. Not having to make reservations for any of the restaurants was great though sometimes there were 20 to 30 minutes waits. They would give you a pager so you could go have a drink. The gym was good. The wifi worked well. The resort was excellent other than the VIP desk constantly trying to push you to go to a breakfast. We would definitely recommend this resort.
Great place but you have to find Miguel!!!
Miguel who works in the Preferred Club made this visit during tough times with coronavirus amazing. He took care of all of our needs, made sure we were taken caee of and made us feel safe and welcome. He even sent us a message on WhatsApp after we left making sure we were fine. A genuinely caring person. Oh and the reaort is great. I will be back but only if Miguel is there to take care of us!!
