Expensive Worst Experience Ever
We went for a friends wedding paid over $4000 CAD to stay at the white sands. Rooms were basic and had a few leaking and AC problems. We have stayed at other hotels in Jamaica before and considering the 5 star rating the Royalton had we were expecting a lot more than what we got. The staff was great and friendly and honestly the only only reason I would even go back. The food was "ok" but we went off the resort to get fresh coconut water and some local food - worth the ride if you feel like leaving the resort We were constantly -constantly- being accosted by staff trying to sell us what appears to be a time share in the hotel- very annoying The grounds were nice and the bars, beach and private island were beautiful Friends of our stayed at the Blue Waters and OMG the amenities there were actual luxury. If you are planning to go to the Royalton- stay at Blue Waters The entertainment was fun but ended early - by 10pm - so if you're looking for a good time after that --> Good luck! In all we had an alright time, the wedding was perfect and I'm happy to be home.
Worst Hotel Experience
I would never recommend neither encourage anyone to stay at this hotel , more specifically the white sands part of the hotel. Arrived with my husband for delayed anniversary trip at 4:30pm the day of check in and wasn't settled with a suitable e oom until 7pm , the rooms at white sands are terrible , shabby and a poor excuse for a comfortable hotel room . What I disliked more than anything was when you made a complaint it was almost as if they made you feel bad for not booking Blue Waters or being there "Diamond member" annoyed the living daylights out of me. I couldn't even walk the shabby ,pop down hotel without being reminded that I am not a Diamond member , so if the food tasted like crap which it did , even at some of the restaurants you would feel as though it's because your not about of the "Elite club" then the aggravating thing is that they have there travel sales rep at all corners of the hotel trying to lure you in to become apart of there travel club . Everything about this place annoyed me , would never get me to go back here . Plus no one cares , I sent an email about my experience days after and not even an acknowledgement that it has been received.
We spent a week at the Royalton White Sands before heading to Negril as part of our honeymoon. We were part of the Diamond club which gives extra perks. The room was dated and rather disappointing compared to the images on the website. Our room had a partial view of the sea and we could watch the sun rise beautifully over the hills in the distance from our balcony. The staff were friendly but trying to get any assistance was like pulling teeth. Nobody seemed to know how to help and you were passed from staff member to staff member. I think we spoke to about 15 members of staff about trying to change room before we got confirmation that it wasn’t possible. I even asked to speak to the manager and was told that when he arrived I could meet with him.... I’m still waiting! Very frustrating! All the staff really did try to help, but nobody could give us any definite answers. The food was very good. Lots of authentic dishes and seasonal fruit. We had a complimentary candlelit dinner on the beach. Again, service was great but it was very dark. Think they need a few more candles but we used our phone torches lol. The only thing that we really, really disliked about White Sands was the number of stray dogs running around the beach constantly. For someone like me with a fear of dogs, this made it a bit difficult to relax, although the unlimited premium spirits definitely helped! Waiter service at the beach was hit and miss depending on who was on shift. The diamond club section of the beach was beautiful but the standard part had lots of seaweed being washed up. Aside from the Diamond club beach access, I can’t quite understand what real perks you receive in comparison to just a normal booking. Jamaica, as always, was beautiful and we cannot wait to return but probably not to this resort.
What a great place to stay. We were only there for one week while I photographed a wedding but would have loved to have stayed longer. Such a great range of restaurants that you don't need to leave the resort for a bit of variety, but I would recommend exploring the island.
Great Resort BUT!
The resort itself is very good with excellent food, nice restaurants nice beach and amazing staff especially Delroy Marlon and the chaps in the Martini bar. Now for the downside, the main part of the hotel is very dated with small rooms and they are very tired. The other thing is it is very difficult to avoid people smoking they have no smoking signs but people ignore them. we had to wash our clothes immediately we got home because of the smell of marijuana, they have security at the hotel but unlike other resorts they do nothing.
