Disappointing Stay at Sunscape Coco Punta Cana – Not Worth the Cost
I stayed at Sunscape Coco Punta Cana for 7 nights and unfortunately, this resort did not meet the standards expected from a Hyatt-affiliated property. We were “upgraded” to the Adults Only section, only to be told upon arrival that children are now allowed there — something not reflected on the website. Had I booked directly, I would have paid a premium for inaccurate information. We accepted the upgrade because of promised perks like a private pool and better proximity to amenities. Sadly, the experience quickly went downhill. The fire alarm in Building #1 went off multiple times every single day from Sunday to Thursday — often as early as 5 AM or late into the evening. Staff told us it was a false alarm caused by someone possibly vaping or smoking, but it continued for days with no resolution. This created not only constant disruption but a serious safety concern — what if there had been a real emergency? The air conditioning in our room barely worked, and the fixed shower head had very low pressure (luckily the handheld one was better). For a resort at this price point, these basic amenities should not be an issue. Many à la carte restaurants were closed (low season), yet no effort was made to adjust the dining experience. Even the disco required you to pay for drinks, and drinks from other bars weren’t allowed. Isn’t this supposed to be an “all-inclusive” resort? The buffet food was mediocre at best, aside from the fresh bread and egg station at breakfast. The beach, shown beautifully in photos online, was completely covered in seaweed and not being maintained. I understand this can be seasonal, but I also expect a resort to make an effort to keep it usable. There were some positives — the resort is visually stunning, the spa is excellent, and the coffee huts are a great touch. I also appreciated the kindness of a staff member from the medical team who gave helpful advice without pressuring us into a paid consultation. That said, I would not return to this resort — even if it were free. I overheard several other guests echoing similar frustrations, and it’s clear the quality has declined. This is not a 4-star resort; it barely earns 3 stars based on our experience. I am sharing this review because guests deserve better — especially when paying a premium for what should be a relaxing, seamless experience.

Sunscape Coco Punta Cana
To start, we arrived and all was nice. They first placed us in building 15 which was quite a walk from the main lobby and beach. After a request to switch closer we were placed in building 5(Sunclub Family Building) which was closer to everything which was nice. The rooms were okay, nothing to write home about. There were water leaks in building 5 and we had a slow drip coming from the ceiling in our bathroom. The rooms were for the most part clean but could definitely use some improvements. Next onto the resort itself, the landscaping is pretty well kept and the sand on the beach is very nice and soft. Although the beach was cleaned quite regularly it seems like they neglect to clean under the huts as we would always find peoples cigarette butts, garbage and even pieces of glass in the sand by the centre beam. The water isn’t clear and bright blue although a 7 minute walk to the right will bring you to another resorts beach which is beautiful with small corals and fish to see and swim with. The food was adequate, nothing crazy good or bad either. The fruits were amazing though, very juicy and tasteful but just wish they offered mango more often as we only ever saw it in buffets like twice. The best(BY FAR) a la carte is Tierra with really good meats and foods and the style of which they bring out food is cool. The rest are mid tier and not as good and we preferred the buffet over them. Now onto sunclub, DO NOT PAY EXTRA FOR IT! In our eyes it’s a waste to pay more, they constantly upgrade people for free to sunclub and sometimes right at check in without even asking. Without sunclub everyone is still able to use their pools, order drinks, get their food and even access their “vip lounge”. The pools are somewhat gross. Maybe it’s because we went on workers day so the locals were able to use the resort but we found dirty socks, garbage, lots of hair and pieces of palm trees in the pool. We also found that there was a weird coating or floating substance all over the pool that looked as if it was very dirty. The sunclub pool was a lot better and seemed a lot more clean. The drinks can get strong just like any resort, but we highly recommend not getting your drinks from the pool bar as they are overly strong and sometimes rude. The lobby bar and sports bar are by far the best. We ordered drinks on the first day get on the next in the pool bar the lady was rude with us and saying that she won’t make it. After consulting another bartender, he stated that he would happily make it for us anytime we asked. Onto the bartenders, there are only 2 of them I would actually say made my trip a lot better. Starting with the bartender that was our favourite is Gregory at the lobby bar. He was the nicest bartender we’ve had and he always would make any drink you ask for, and if you are unsure well he has a mind full of possible drinks and will make one for you that you won’t regret. He seems to love being a bartender as he always has a smile on his face and cheers up peoples days. Secondly is Richard, the bartender at the sports bar. He is funny, loves to make people laugh and is fun to talk to. With the friends we met, we constantly would party in the sports bar and Richard loved it, he always contributed to having the best night there and he always is full of joy. Now onto the staff. At first it was amazing, they always talked to us and became friends with us. We would always join their activities and make the most of out of our trip. Suddenly one day it’s almost like they gave up on the activities. We started seeing the staff less, even when we searched the resort looking for them it seemed as if they just disappeared. Then one day in the lobby gift shop a worker had helped us and he asked us to walk to the coffee shop and get him 2 cappuccinos and not to tell them it was for him. Personally I’ve never been asked that on a resort in my life so I was confused and kind of felt off about the resort as a whole afterwards. Then that same night one of the entertainment staff asked us if we could get them a drink at the bar in secret before their Night Show. After that me and my girlfriend felt very weird and didn’t really want to include ourselves with the staff. In our opinions workers should not be asking the people in the resort for drinks and especially not alcohol. Another of the entertainment staff was always flirting with visitors, he would talk to them and ask for their WhatsApp then text them trying to get with them. The one and only worker I will give a shout out to is King All Inclusive. He is the head of the entertainment staff and by far the best worker there. He was always super nice and helpful to us and very fun to talk to. He works very hard and talked to us about why he does so, in the hopes to someday live his dream of working in Canada as a carpenter. He was the only one who never seemed to put us off in any way, the only one who didn’t do anything questionable as resort staff. I would say the only reason me and my girlfriend actually had a lot of fun at this resort is the people we met while we were there. One day we formed a big group of almost 20 people from 18-26 years old and spent every night together having fun. If it weren’t for them we would not have had a good time. Overall you pay for what you get, it is an okay resort with okay food and okay beaches. If you really want something special and beautiful you need to be okay with spending more but if you are okay with nice weather, an okay beach and okay food then go for it. We enjoyed our stay but definitely not a 4 or 5 star resort. I hope this helps some of you decide whether to stay here or not.

Worst Hotel Experience
it was a horrible experience, the worst customer service you’ll ever find, it looks great on the social media platforms but in reality is fake, everything feels CHEAP, not in a great condition. The food is horrible and somebody was homofobic during the morning wile i was taking my coffee at the coco caffe (crazy) . I’d recommend you to go to another place and not waste the money at this, bad service hotel. Drinks were so NASTY that i couldn’t not enjoy any of them, not even piñacolada inside of it. Almost everything you have to pay such is rare because they have “all inclusive concept” and the beach is horribleee, i could not even go in because ipf green look in it, the staff on the bars is mean and not friendly at all specially at the bar by the pool. Do not como to this hotel if u dont want to referee wasting your money. Punta cana has a lot of great and quality places that could be a lot more worth it.

Good potential, needs better management
For the first day and a half we were trying to get our room fixed. There was no phone or internet, and no hot water in the shower. That could happen anywhere, but we expected that the management is there to get those things addressed promptly. Unfortunately, the same pattern repeated again and again - we would walk to reception, talk to a concierge. They would call somebody and tell them something in Spanish, then tell us that the problem will be fixed in 15-20 minutes. Three hours later - repeat. Again and again and again, but still nothing got fixed. That review would’ve been one star, if it wasn’t for Felix, who’s in charge of bell boys. He went with us to our room, verified that none of the problems were fixed. He then got us new (and better) room and personally helped us move our belongings. Other than that, the hotel is decent and recently renovated. The buffet is nice, a’la carte restaurants - not so much. It is almost impossible to get a reservation into those restaurants that are included in the package, and those that charge extra offer just steak and lobster. The beach has the softest and whitest sand and good amount of beach chairs and palapa umbrellas. Unfortunately, there was massive amount of seaweed, that kept on increasing day by day. By the end of our stay there was a three meter wide and a foot thick carpet of seaweed at water edge. Again, hotel management seems to have been caught by surprise. At another hotel down the beach a special tractor was combing the beach several times a day and they managed to keep the sea grass in check. If you want to swim in crystal clear water you should go on one of the numerous boat excursions.
