Disappointing Trip - Trouble in Paradise - Not What We Paid For - Did Not Relax

🌴 Bahia Principe Grand Jamaica – Detailed Guest Review 🐜 Pest Problem We encountered roaches in both the Japanese restaurant and in our room—truly unacceptable for a resort claiming upscale status. 🛏️ Room Disasters (Three Room Changes!) First Room Booked with two queen beds but were given two full beds + a roll‑away. This was not sufficient for what was considered 3 adults & a child. Second Room Shower fixture completely detached from the wall. No towels upon arrival. It took 24-48 hours to get towels. Soap dish fell off, sink sprayed water everywhere, shower drain unattached, toilet door missing, and an oversized tub‑shower hose wrapped around it multiple times. Phone not working, and AC malfunctioned making the room hot. One Guest Services representative kept her face buried in her phone while I spoke to her, looking up only occasionally—which was surprising, rude and dismissive. Third Room Again, no air conditioning. The repair person came near the end of the day, confirmed that there was an issue, said he was going up on the roof to repair and never came back. Nor did he solve our problem with the air condition. The toilet area smelled like stale urine. We saw roach in the bathroom. The phone dead, compounding frustration and isolation. So, we had to make multiple trips to the front desk and Guest Services regarding our room issues. 🚫 Maintenance & Amenities Failures Across all rooms: no towels, broken phones, failed air conditioners. Bathroom fixtures repeatedly detached or malfunctioned. Unsanitary environment: roaches, unpleasant odors. 👎 Management & Guest Services Management consistently “passed the buck”, never followed up. The Guest Services Manager literally ran away when approached. One staff member remained glued to her phone, only grudgingly acknowledging us—surprisingly rude behavior. Overall, their lack of accountability and failure to resolve issues was extreme. 🔧 Renovation Promises—But Too Late for Our Stay Staff repeatedly told us the resort would be “better after renovation next year.” However, we paid for our vacation in 2025, far too early for any promised improvements. Relying on future renovations doesn’t fix—or excuse—the current failures. ❌ Final Verdict Our stay was marred by pest infestations, structural breakdowns, broken amenities, and appalling guest service—including staff glued to phones mid-conversation. Paying for a stay while being told “it’ll get better next year” is unacceptable. Until after the 2026 renovation is completed—and only if there's clear, documented improvement—I cannot recommend Bahia Principe Grand Jamaica for anyone seeking a relaxing, reliable, and respectful vacation. 🔍 Quick Summary of Issues Category Specific Problems Pests Roaches in restaurant & rooms Wrong Room Setup 1st: wrong beds & roll-away; 2nd: repeated fixture failures; 3rd: smell, roach, AC failure Fixture Failures Showers detaching twice, sink spraying, loose drain, missing toilet door, unsafe hose Amenities Broken No towels, non-functional phone and AC in every room Rude Staff Staff barefoot in phone during conversation, manager fled when addressed Management Issues Passed the buck, no follow-up, no responsibility Renovation Excuse Promises of improvements “next year” don’t fix the current disastrous stay

    Decline in standards

This was our second visit to this hotel. On our last visit we were very impressed, but this time standards had dropped. The was an attitude of not caring by he reception staff, and some of the bar staff. Marijuana was being openly smoked and sold on the beach and in the bar areas, with many of the staff involved in selling it to guests. There were issues with things like towels not being available for the rooms. Overall e standard was much poorer than our previous visit. It was a five star Hotel but now it is a three star. Not worth the cost, go somewhere else.

    Poor

My daughter and her 3 friends stayed at the Grand Bahia luxury for 10 days. I retuned her to the hotel 1 night the Security at the main entrance asked to see her wristband. She showed security her black wristband and gave the guard her room no.However the security guard had a very strange attitude towards me. I said to the guard all we want to do is drop her off at the main entrance and then leave. I explained that we are staying at an all inclusive hotel in Ochi Rius . He then called me a Racist !!!! I understand security has to be tight at the main gates, however when you show security a Bahia wrist band and give them your name and room number. What more can you give them. If you have a problem at the main gate ! security will not put you through to the front desk or to a manager they appear to dictate policy and to me they need to require some soft skills when dealing with fee paying guests. SECURITY should not be about aggression or arrogance or rudeness.

    Trip to paradise

I traveled to the resort from June 17th June 25th, with my wife, kids, mother and sister. We all had an amazing time. I have notice some reviews stating a bunch of negative things. But we did not encounter any of those things they talked about. One thing I would say is that every person's experience is a personal one. And some folks are just SALT. The beach was amazing, and yes there were rocks at the entry, but once you pass the rocks, you can go out to about 50 yards and the water would still be at your shoulders. The food was delicious at the buffet and at the specialty restaurants. We are at the knife, French and Japanese restaurant. The french and the knife was a solid A+, the hibachi was a b for me. The room was very spacious for 4 people, 2 kids and 2 adults. We had a king size bed with 2 double beds. The fridge was always stocked with drinks. We were never able to finish the drinks. Fresh towels were provided every day. And when we ran low from hitting the pool multiple times a day, we called room service and we were able to get the additional towels. The first room I got was a bit on the warm side. The second room was a little better, but It was still not as cold as I would have liked. Our view was looking over the pool and looking right into the ocean. I spent long night on the balcony looking at the stars and listening to the ocean waves. One night I sat on the balcony drinking a red strip beer while the rain gently fell and cool my body, mind and soul. Simply put, the trip was awesome and amazing.

    UNACCEPTABLE - DO NOT BOOK!!

Unacceptable! Disgusting! Some staff rude and unprofessional. They don’t appear to be treated well. Roaches, AC problems, too much touching, men aggressive, ladies rude. Backed up toilet with no rooms to transfer to. Shower in standing water due to back up. TV’s don’t work. DO NOT BOOK! Horrible Travesty!
