Melia with a group of nineteen.

Let me start out with the fact that we travelled to Cozumel with 19 family members. Nineteen. Challenging to say the least, but that was on us. We really loved Melia. The age range of kids we had on this trip was from 17 down to 8 years old. We also had several adults including my mother in law and her boyfriend who are in their seventies. Overall the rooms were fine, clean and with robust AC. AC was a bit loud but no big deal. With a group as big as ours, our options were limited as far as dining. It was next to impossible to book a reservation with 19 people. We ate at the buffet most meals with a few lunches at the Mole snack bar. I personally loved the omelet bar and the fresh fruit at the buffet and the ceviche at the snack bar was great. The staff at Melia, from the front desk to the cleaning staff to the restaurant/bar crew, were professional and friendly! The view of the Caribbean Sea from the hotel is stunning, though the water out front was not super clear most days. The beach was great though. We spent many an evening in the lounge chairs and hammocks watching the sunset. We even had a super fun family volleyball game on the beach on our second night. Like many reviews here, we simply walked down to the beach on the other side of the jetty at El Coz and snorkeled/swam over there. Stunning clarity and full of sea life. If traveling with a big group, I have to recommend the Fury Catamaran excursion. A giant catamaran with a great staff takes you from Downtown Coz on a snorkeling and ocean expedition that includes a private beach with water slides and trampolines. Lunch and drinks provided. Super fun and inclusive for everyone. It was my brother in law's birthday on the trip and since there were no reservations available at the restaurants at Melia, we went into town and had a great birthday dinner at Casa Mission. We sat in the garden with our big group and it was beautiful. Delicious food, wonderful local musicians and great ambiance. All in all, this was a great trip, especially considering the size of our group.

    Basic

Expected more from an all inclusive. No waiters coming by offering drinks, limited restaurant options—need reservation due to limited seating. Rooms are basic but clean, AC is LOUD. Friendly staff but not catering.

BUYER BEWARE!! I don't know what to do...

We were going to Mexico to the Meliá Cozumel in April 2025. As it was only a few weeks out, I booked a non-refundable room - 10 days in a suite for $3,600. Then just 2 weeks prior to vacay and totally out-of-the-blue, my husband was diagnosed with Stage-4 Kidney Cancer and needed to start treatment immediately. I called and cancelled my reservation so they could rent it to someone else. Now I need help from Melia. After the dust settled a bit, I tried to contact them. I have now emailed them 6 times and made 3 phone calls. No response to the emails whatsoever, and phone calls tell me I have to contact them through email. To the same address I've been using!! I can get absolutely no help from their Customer "Service" Dept. I get it that they don't want to give me an exception to the policy - BUT ALL I NEED IS A COPY OF THAT POLICY AND A COPY OF MY INVOICE so I can file with my insurance!!! My husband will probably die within the next 6 months - and we really need that $3,600. I don't know what else to do. BUT - if I were you, I'd sure think twice before booking here.

    No what I expected

Service: was okay . They seem to be short staffed. Clean: we found hairs inside our showers , they forgot to clean our room (even though daily room cleaning is included) and the sheets smelled. Amenities: we got the Level upgrade for the amenities but a lot of the amenities were unavailable. Some of the bars were closed , beach beds were unavailable and even though they said things were “completely booked” , everything seemed to be empty. Food: you only get 1 confirmed restaurant reservation. One of the restaurants was closed so they only option you had was the buffet. The buffet lacked quality and options. Beverages: lacked options Ocean: was brown and not clear but you could walk over to the hotel next door and swim with the fishes. Overall, we will not be coming back to Melia. We hoped for a good anniversary celebration but it was average.

    Great Family Vacation!

As a person who scoured these reviews before choosing where to stay, I will try to be helpful to those others searching!!! This is our second trip to this resort, but last time we were here was July, 2008! Things have changed for the better, but everything we loved was the same. Melia Cozumel is a great place for families and is very easy going. The vibes (especially in July) were calm and not loud and crazy. My family of four, two kids 13 and 10 had a great week. When we arrived it had just rained heavily, but the rest of the week was hot and sunny! When it says "party cloudy" it just means sunshine with beautiful clouds in the sky! We got an ocean view room and it was a GORGEOUS view. We watched the sunset daily and it was definitely worth the extra. We did not do The Level as it sounded not worth the extra. I am glad we didn't because although I could see the amenities they were getting, it wasn't anything I felt like I was missing. Our room was on the second floor and two minutes from anywhere we wanted to spend time. We spent most of our time by the pool and at the beach. Never had a hard time finding chairs anywhere, both in and out of shade. The pool was mildly busy at times, but we never felt crowded. For the most part we felt like we had so much space to ourselves. My kids loved the frozen strawberry drinks from the bar and snacks for lunch at the Mole Snack bar. Easy fries, burgers and nachos are served there. We never made a reservation at the restaurants, but instead liked the flexibility of the buffet. The food was great. We are not picky and sometimes things were not as warm as they could be, but it was delicious and we all found multiple things daily we loved. Every dinner night had a theme and we made sure to sit in Anna's section as she took great care of us and remembered our preferred drinks! We rented a car one day and drove around, shopped in town and had lunch by the ocean, but we truly spent the majority of our time enjoying the resort. The beach water is nice, but a short walk (3 minutes!) down the beach is the most amazing snorkeling spot! El Cozemeleño hotel is next door, but the beaches are technically public so you can just walk over and enjoy the crystal clear water and swim with the fish! The room was nice, double beds are small but we didn't mind. The beds were clean and housekeeping was amazing. When we asked for more water we got a ton! The rain shower is cool, my kids loved it. Water pressure is good and we never had an issue with hot water. It was perfect every time. When we had come before kids in 2008 we had an ocean front room. If you are a couple, this is AMAZING. They only seem to come in king size bed for two people, but it's 3 steps to the beach and totally worth it for a romantic vacation! We never went to the adult pool because we had our kids, but it looked nice and relaxing with a beautiful view. There was a bit of a smell to the air conditioning, but that's kind of par for the course in these humid climates. It was cold in the room and we all slept comfortably. Melia was a great family vacation and we felt welcome and relaxed everywhere we went!
