Nice place, but could be better

This was my 6th stay at an adult only all inclusive in Mexico. Pros: Service was excellent by all the staff. The main pool was large and it was mostly easy to get service at the swim up bar. The swimming area at the beach was very clean and clear. The food was great. Adults only. Cons: The swim up suite is not connected to the main pool. Other resorts with swim up suites have a lazy river or some other means to swim to the main pool from your room. This resort has a lot smaller separate pool behind the swim up rooms. It is more private, but you have to walk to the main pool for drinks and activities. In my opinion, it wasn't worth the extra cost for the swim up suite unless you want to be away from people on your honeymoon or something. You have to make a reservation to eat at the Hibachi restuarant. In order to make a reservation you must be at the concierge at 9 AM when they open. My recommendation is to get there at 8:30 and wait 30 minutes, otherwise there will be a line of people and you might not get in. I was 3rd in line and there were only 2 tables left for dinner that night when I got into the concierge's office. The reservation can only be made on the same day you plan on going to dinner, so if you have plans to leave the resort in the morning, or just lose track of time, you won't be going to the Hibachi restaurant. Everyone I talked to said it was the most stressful part of the resort because you really do have to plan a day around eating Hibachi, once in the morning for making the reservation, then again in the afternoon to make it there. It limits the more active/adventurous people who leave the resort. You can't select a bed size in the swim up suites. You either get a king or two doubles and you don't find out until you get to the resort. Cheapcaribbean puts in a note that goes to the resort in the confirmation that you requested a king room, but that is basically a waste of typing since the resort doesn't even look at it until you get there. I got a 2 double bed room and I would have stayed in a regular room with a king bed instead, but the resort wouldn't let me downgrade because they didn't have anything available of course. Overall the resort was really nice and I'd probably go back, just not to a swim up suite. I recommend if you like diving or snorkling to book through the Barracuda guys at the pool and not the travel agencies by the lobby. I went diving with the sea turtles and the master diver that was with us really knew his stuff. They picked us up in a small van for our resort only, took us right to the place in Playa to get our equipment, then right to the site. Total trip time with travel took about 5 hours. Other resort goers that went through Best Day travel got picked up in a larger bus that went to 4 other resorts for pick ups and drop offs, and their trip took somewhere from 8 to 9 hours.

Beach not great

If you like to walk on the beach, don't go to this resort. There is a dropoff on the beach and there is seaweed everywhere. There is no chance for walking along the shoreline. The pool, however, is excellent! There are 2 swim-up bars and many rafts to float on. Also, don't go here without bug spray. The mosquitos were terrible! We heard the resort was newer (it's actually about 8 years old) and so we expected the room to be really nice, it wasn't. It was just a basic room and there was absolutely no view of anything except vegetation. The resort is very romantic, but there is too much vegetation. In fact, you really can't see any buildings anywhere at all and there are not rooms with pool views except the lazy river area.

Probably Never Again (I'm sorry Cheap Caribbean!)

After doing thorough research, I decided to book my sister's bachelorette party at this resort. Now I'm wishing I went for the Hard Rock or any other hotel. This was the least accommodating resort I've ever visited. I was appalled to say the least... If you don't mind waiting long periods for small requests to get done, maybe this is the right resort for you. The waiting games began at check-in as the entire process of getting our group checked in took about an entire hour, THEN we had to wait to be taken to the room, THEN we had to wait for our luggage to get to the room. I have never waited so long to get checked in anywhere. After a being on long flight and taking the bus from the airport, the last thing I wanted to do was wait 2 hours to finally get settled... My group felt very unwelcomed during our entire stay. Servers and management were rude and snarky. Any request we made was a hassle to them, and they didn't hesitate to make that clear. Even receiving an extra plate was a hassle for them. The restaurant employees didn't want to deal with seating a larger group even if we split into smaller tables, so one night the Indonesian restaurant stuck us outside with the mosquitos and didn't even offer to seat us inside where it was pretty empty. We waited a long time for our food. At one point, one table asked for guacamole which wasn't on the menu. When we asked the server for guacamole as well, his response was "I can but I would have to go all the way to other kitchen to get that". Understandable, but don't offer it to one table if you can't get it for another. I was in shock they made us feel bad for asking. To make things even worse, the rest of our group ate their appetizers and main courses while my table still had to wait for our appetizers. At one point, we even noticed the waitresses laughing at our disappointment. I don't know what happened to professionalism, or apologies for that matter. One thing that bothered me the most is that we were treated so poorly our entire stay and we have no idea why. We tipped generously wherever we went, we were not loud or rude by any means, and we kept to ourself. My group was simply not taken seriously by the employees, perhaps for our younger looks. It was more than just one occasion and consistent with every single person in our group. I'm convinced our resort has no idea how to cater to large groups. We were appalled at the service we got all week. Even during check-out, the receptionist didn't hesitate to make the last rude comment. We told her we left our keys in the room and her response was "Don't tell me that...." Who says that to their guests? Our luggage was nowhere near ready when when our transportation to the airport arrived- this was no surprise to us. I do want to recognize the employees who helped us enjoy our stay. The bartenders, maid-service, room service employees and the waiters at the Mexican restaurant were excellent. My exceptions were set high from all the great reviews I have read but it was all a disappointment. The resort itself was beautiful and clean, but our experience has been tainted by the service. I would never stay here again.

Hotel Description

Valentin Imperial Riviera Maya: Explore All-Inclusive Romance

Not far from Cancun, you will find a half-mile strip of the Riviera Maya that is so secluded even its name is exclusive. Playa Del Secreto, or "The Secret Beach," is a romantic retreat for couples who want to get away from it all. If you are looking for some real "alone time" with your honey, then it is time to pack your bags and head towards the adult-only paradise at Valentin Imperial Riviera Maya.

Escape the real world at this luxurious Caribbean hideaway. Valentin Imperial Riviera Maya's specialty is tropical romance so, naturally, the resort offers plenty of wedding and honeymoon packages. Look and feel your best for the ceremony (and wedding night!) with the help of the luxurious, on-site spa. The bride can fend off pre-wedding stress with the Four Hands Massage, and the men's Homme Facial will have the groom glowing for his special day.

Of course, you don't need a trip down the aisle to enjoy the sultry Valentin Imperial Riviera Maya. Couples in love or celebrating a golden anniversary will enjoy the Mexican hacienda-style suites. Book one with a Jacuzzi to make your personal corner of paradise even more relaxing. From 24-hour room service to free high-speed Internet access in every room, the resort encourages guests to ditch the real world in lieu of this private retreat.

While you may be away from it all, we recommend that you leave the comforts of your room for at least a little, or you'll miss the fabulous food at Valentin Imperial Riviera Maya's eight restaurants. Even breakfast is a gourmet affair at Le Marche, with its omelet station and local fruits and veggies. The casually elegant Taman Sari serves up an eclectic mix of Thai and Indonesian dishes. If you just want to grab a tropical cocktail while you sunbathe on the beach, the Sunrise & Sunset bar is close at-hand. Nine other bars also serve unlimited drinks throughout the resort.

To top off its appeal, Valentin Imperial Maya continues to show their environmental consciousness through their property, set amid lush, tropical vegetation, providing a tropical background for memories that will last a lifetime. If you have been feeling a little crowded as of late, then it's time to head down and treat yourself to a romantic getaway with that special someone!
