Not far from Cancun, you will find a half-mile strip of the Riviera Maya that
is so secluded even its name is exclusive. Playa Del Secreto, or "The Secret
Beach," is a romantic retreat for couples who want to get away from it all. If
you are looking for some real "alone time" with your honey, then it is time to
pack your bags and head towards the adult-only paradise at Valentin Imperial
Riviera Maya.

Great value for the price
OMG! OMG! The deluxe junior suite is the basic room...the bottom. (Really, that's the bottom?) My husband and I enjoyed the jacuzzi tub, jungle view balcony and twenty second walk to the pool! We will come back to the Valentin. The all - inclusive resort includes multiple restaurants and top shelf drink selections. All buffet options included fresh, made to order dishes. Our only complaint is the surf was too rough for snorkeling..we had to spend our time body surfing instead. The staff is very friendly and trustworthy. Many nice surprises are in your future if you choose this resort. Make sure you ask a bell boy to drive you around the resort so that you may find your bearings and take advantage of all this resort has to offer!
Stayed in the resort for 6 nights. Initially they gave us a double bed and we asked them to change it to King bed. They moved us after 2 days.
In the first room TV did not work (no clarity) and lot of hair in the shower stall. We asked them to clean and they never did.
Second room is better and there are still using old tube tv's in the room.
I am not going back to this resort.
Second time here and Can't wait for the third trip
I absolutely love this resort. We stayed here last December and decided to go back in May for my boyfriend's birthday. The service is phenomenal and the basic room is very nice. One of our favorite aspects of the resort is that it's eco friendly so you see a lot of very cool critters roaming around like iguanas, marsupials, and lots of different types of birds. The food is high quality and there are a lot of healthy options especially during breakfast. The egg lady Gabriela ROCKS!
It's great to have both the beach and pool option at your disposal and we could interchange between the two. I only have positive things to say about the Valentin and think it offers a wonderful relaxing retreat from a busy life.
My husband and I needed a getaway and so we chose the Valentin Imperial Maya since it was an adults only all-inclusive. The resort was top notch. Our check-in was smooth and easy, they made us feel very welcome and thankful that we chose their resort for our stay. The room we had was very nice, good size, clean and very close to the restaurants & main pool which we liked. It was a Silver suite in building #1. The restaurants were excellent, we personally like L'Olive the Italian restaurant. Some reviews had stated that there was a long wait but we never experienced any more than a 10 minute wait for a table. The waiters/waitresses were attentive and always had great recommendations. The only thing we would say is the swim up bars at the pool had poor staffing. Jesus was somewhat rude and did not seem to care at all about customer service. My husband and I were very relaxed and patient as we have spent plenty of time in Mexico so didn't have expectations of extremely fast service but Jesus was just not a very pleasant person. We wound up getting out of the pool and going to the beach bar in which they were always very nice and attentive. As a whole....we will absolutely go back to this resort. Champagne at check-in, the rest of the staff was amazing, the resort was impeccable and we had an absolutely wonderful time. PS...if you have breakfast near the beach at Mar & Tierra ask for Luis section. He was WONDERFUL and we had breakfast in his section every day!! Take good care of him!

How do I get the package price?8 answers
I'm looking at the package deal for the Valentin Imerial Maya for $599 per person but when I put in dates the price doubles. How do I get the trip for $599?? It doesn't have selected days.
2 years, 27 months ago
jenajoy
the price is 599 per person double occupancy only...then depending on what airport u fly out of it might be extra for that and then tax basically you can call them if you want, but i think all in all it will not cost 1200 its more like 1800 total.
I have stayed at this resort beofre and and it wonderful! we are going back. hope this helps...good luck.
johnswife
Did you enter in the promo code? At the bottom of the page there is a area to enter in the promo code that applies to you.
SFun
I had trouble with that too when we were booking. You really just have to toggle with the dates for a while to find a combination that works. Also, where you're flying from probably adds significantly to the price because the price is calculated based on a flight leaving from Ft. Lauderdale.
NatureGrl
Call the representative at Cheap Caribbean... it will be faster
Dolpina
It all depends where you are flying from, how many stops, etc. For example, where we fly out of, we always have to go to a larger airport that goes right to Cancun.
runner1909
I know when we booked there was a code we had to use to get $450 dollars off (ex. MAYA450) and you don't put the code in until you get close to the end, like after picking the flight and stuff. Hope that helps..
afox23
Usually it automatically selects 2 people - which would be why the price doubles. Otherwise check the dates in ().
sherryKM
It depends on the dates you wanna travel
Sledge
I believe the price shown is for the resort only and airfare from the closest city only, and does not include airport transfers or taxes. I talked to some people who flew from different areas of the country and thus their cost was different than mine. However, I must say no matter where you come from, the value is just amazing as it is truly a five star resort with impeccable services, outstanding facilities, and the beauty of the buildings, grounds and multiple pools exceeds anything I have seen -- even in Hawaii.

How is the swimming at this resort?12 answers

Gretchen
Amazing! So many pools to choose from, and the entire resort is adult only so the noise levels are very low. Beach is also amazing!
CaribbeanJim
Just click on your departure city, enter your dates, number of passengers, etc and away you go!
CaribbeanJim
They have one of the largest pools I have seen. The beach is nice on one side but very rocky on the other side. You do need to get up early in the morning 6a.m. to reserve chairs at the pool and beach or else they are gone. Many of the chairs at the pool and beach are reserved for the more expensive room.
cjay
Great!
GeoJr
The pools were nice and not too cold (we were there in March).
The water at the beach was extremely rough and there's a pretty small roped off area where you can swim. The swimming area does have a sandy bottom which was nice.
We swam every day in the pool and ocean. Had a great time.
NatureGrl
Swimming is fabulous. the main pool was huge. The swim up room pools were quiet and nice. Water was perfect temperature. The beach was the nicest I have ever seen. crystal clear water. I love big waves and this beach had it. The ocean front room has all rock and coral in front of its beach, so we felt this would not be worth it
Happyvacationer1
excellent. the pool is huge and very clean. there are no little kids running around, and the beach is beautiful. once i got in the pool i spent a good part of my day in the water!
dickybeau
Excellent. The pool is huge. There are also several smaller pools if you want something more mellow. The beach is great, and you can swim there as well.
Coach
The swimming was terrific, gentle water and warm. There is a school of angle fish that stays right near the beach. If you take some bread with you they will swim right up to you and eat it. If you are facing the ocean go all the way to the left to get into the water, least amount of pebbles at the water line. After a couple of feet it is all soft sand.
BrianL12
Swimming was great. Both the pool and beaches are not overcrowded. One area in the water at the beach had some rocks. Water temperature was wonderful (April 2011).
xxxxx
Swimming at this resort is amazing. If you like the ocean, you will love this beach. The water is so clear and warm and you can go pretty far out without it getting deep. There are angel fish that you can feed and my husband snorkeled so he could see them. There is a net to keep out any unwanted intruders. :) The pool is huge, but we found that we loved the beach more and was there everyday.
HeatherO
The pool water is very clear and well kept. There's a larger pool with 2 swim up bars, and a volleyball net. Then there are smaller pools closer to the buildings you sleep in. The ocean is very clear, and a section is flagged out so you don't step on rocks. The water has waves, so youwouldn't lay there and float but the waves aren't that big. It's a lot of fun!
jjbabycakes
Swimming is ok at the pools, but as there is only one big pool, then it's recommended to go early in the morning before the water squatters get there with their giant insulated mugs and drink all day w/o getting out of the water to properly relocate said liquid intake. There is a smaller lap pool which may help as well.
The beach offers fairly open swimming as long as there are no major winds which limits where you can swim
NewYorkGringo
The swimming was good in that the pool is very long and offers a quiet end away from all the afternoon activities. It has lots room to roam. It also has a beach which offers good sandy beach swimming as well.
fish19
Fabulous Beach.. White Sand, Coral free in swimming area, easy to get in and out of the water, fun to play in the waves.

How far is the Valentin from Playa Del Carmen?11 answers
We were wondering what there is to do outside of the resort besides the already listed excursions?
2 years, 27 months ago
Mosie
The Valentin Imperial Maya is approximately 20 minutes by taxi to Playa del Carmen and approximately 30 minutes to Cancun, where there are a number of restaurants and shopping opportunities. There are also a couple of golf courses in the area as well as the Xel-Ha and Xcaret theme parks and the Tulum pyramids.
KateCC
Playa del Carmen is a 20 minute cab ride away. The Valentin also has a shuttle that goes twice a day at designated times for $17 per person. The cab ride is $22 each way. You can take the ferry from Playa del Carmen and go to the Island of Cozymel. They have other trips that you can take for snorkeling, visiting the ruins etc. but they are all at a cost.
cjay
The Valentine is about 15-20 minutes away from Playa. We went to Playa and it was very nice. We shopped, ate lunch and went to the beach. We also went to Tlum which was beautiful.
Miker
once you arrive at this resort, you will not want to leave to venture out and spend more money! there is plenty to do, eat, and drink!
dickybeau
Playa Del Carmen is about 20 min away by taxi. There is also several Mayan ruins within an hour. I would recomend going to at least one of them.
BrianL12
You are about 25 miles from Playa. There are two shuttles a day that go there. One afternoon and one evening.
LoisandClark
The hotel has 2 shuttles per day, morning & afternoon. In April, 2011, it costs $18 per person, and it takes about a half hour to get to Playa Del Carmen.
ShGar
We took an excursion to Playa del Carmen and it only took about 30 minutes. We also did the Tulum Extreme which took you to the Mayan Ruins, snorkeling in a cenote, rapelling, and zip-lining (lunch included). The trip to Tulum was about an hour but well worth it.
xxxxx
The Valentin is about 20 minutes away from Playa del Carmen. You can ride the Valentin shuttle for $18.00 per person round trip. Playa del Carmen is ok if you want to shop and walk around. We also went to Xel Ha....which we love and recommend highly.
HeatherO
It's roughly 20-25 minutes from Playa del Carmen. The resort has a daily shuttle to Playa del Carmen for $18 pp, or you could take a cab for $25 each way. Valentin Imperial Maya is between Peurto Morales and Playa del Carmen.
The resort is one hour away from Tulum where there are Mayan ruins to tour. Also along the way to Tulum there are cenotes. We did a tour at the Jungle Place (1 hour away from resort) where we interacted with rescued spider monkeys. It was awesome. You can rent a car from the resort for $65 and drive to any of these places very easily and safely.
Anonymous
We went to Cancun for half a day of shopping in a local market and lunch. You can go to Cozumel for a day. I highly recommend going to Playa del Carmen. Take a taxi or van (it's cheaper) and go from 1:00 to 9:00. Pay half the fee when you get there and the other half when they bring you back. Playa is full of shops and restaurants and bars. Eat at one of the places on the beach, the sand is like talcum powder.

resort map available?11 answers
Does anyone have a resort map that shows where each type of room is located? (silver, golden, etc). Also, if we were placed in a room far from the beach do any of the pools go throughout the property so that one could swim/float instead of having to do too much walking? I have bad knees.
Thanks
2 years, 27 months ago
nottachef
You may be able to find a resort map for the resort on their website at www.valentinmaya.com. The resort's pools do not interconnect throughout the property and the resort is quite large, so if you are looking to be in a room that is centrally located, request to be in building 4 or 5 as they are in the center of the property.
KateCC
We just returned from the Valentin and it is a very large resort and does require a lot of walking unless you get a beachfront room which goes out onto the beach. There are several pools but are located in the center. They do have a map they give you when you arrive. They might be able to fax or email you one.
cjay
The property does have a map locating all amentities. You could not swim from location to location. A lot of walking is required but you could call the front desk to come to your room with a cart to pick you up and take you to your destination. The service there is excellent.
GeoJr
The pool is quite long and you could float a long way in it. The resort many golf carts on which you could catch a ride to the beach.
Verch
As to the walking, some units are more centrally located and shuttles (golf carts) are available.
lejaptnt
There should be a map on their website. Also, when you book, request a room close to one of the smaller pools so that you don't have to walk.
Coach
I have a really bad back and cannot walk that far at all. We stayed in a golden suite. It is close to the beach, close to the main pool and there is a separate pool that our patio went out to. It is called a swim up suite. The only thing was that it was too far of a walk for me to the restaurants. But all you have to do is call, and someone will pick you up and take you. When you are ready to go back to the room, they will take you back too! Hope this helps.
Cohy
The pools do not connect and the place is big but they have shuttles to take you cheerfully wherever you want to go -- to another pool, to the ocean, or restaurants. I have some trouble walking too but I just pick up the phone, called the front desk and a shuttle was there to pick you up within 5 - 10 minutes. They picked you up from your hotel room to where you wanted to go and from restaurants, or from the plaza at night after the shows. No problem at all getting around and they conversed during the ride about the Valentin, the scenery , nightlife, animals, and restaurants.
Zubs
Sorry I don't have a map... you can call the front desk and they can send transportation (huge golfcart or sometimes a car) and they can come pick you up and take you to where you want to go. Building 6 was pretty close to the ocean, maybe a block or so away? Also, yes there is a huge wrap around pool (they call a lazy river-it doesn't move you, you have to swim) that goes around the buildings and ends at building 6.
Mysty
We just had a reg room and were in building 3, we found it was perfectly located in the middle of beach, pool, food. There is a lazy river on the back side of the property that has a lazy river and its own beach but the beach isnt for swimming and its a longer walk to everything else. They do have golf carts and little cars driving around constantly giving people rides. Hope this helps!
NicoleM
Although I highly recommend this resort, there was a good amount of walking involved as this resort is very large and spread out.

Is there a beach bar or waiters serving drinks on the beach?11 answers
1 year, 23 months ago
JAS
Yes, around noon someone from the bar walk the beach area offering lunch and drinks
bnthall
Yes, there are waiters on the beach. It takes a while for them to return with drinks though, even if you tip them. I think it's only 1 waiter at a time for the entire beach. There isn't a bar on the beach, but it's close.
Venessa
There are 2 beach bars that had someone bringing drinks to your spot on the beach. They also had snacks at the beach bars. There was premium alcohol and the drinks were well made. There are other bars and eating sites to get drinks. It was very easy to get a drink whenever we wanted one.
CJfromCA
Technically it's not a beach bar, but there is a bar overlooking the beach with fancy-schmancy beach "beds" maybe 25 feet from the water. There are also waiters running around everywhere.
Theo
Yes there is a beach bar by both sitting areas and there were waiters serving drinks at both.
DAWNWISCONSIN
yes, both!
NicoleM
Yes, there are bars everywhere! and a waiter will come to you while you are on the beach.
Kangie
Yes, here is a beach bar located just off the beach. In addition, waiter do come and take your drink orders on both the beach and around the pool.
smitheran
There is a beach bar right on the entrance to the beach, which was great. And they do have servers, but since they are trying to cover the whole beach crowd at busy times it is quicker to head up to the bar yourself.
ashmouth
There were two pool bars at the pool, and for the beach, there is a small bar hut at the one entrance to the beach that you can get drinks at. There is a waiter or waitress that walks the beach taking orders, but most people (if not all) that used them tipped each time.
btbroncs
yes

What is the cost to upgrade your room ?11 answers
We were considering upgrading to the Emerald suite but were uncertain of the cost and if the "regular" rooms are nice we would probably opt to spend our money and squeeze another day or two at the resort...your experiences ? Thank You
1 year, 23 months ago
pablo
The best way to determine how much a room upgrade would be is to proceed through a booking until you get to the page where the room categories are displayed. The room category that is pre-selected has no additional cost assessed. The additional cost for selecting another room category is located to the right of the room description. For example, a trip in September for 4 nights booked today, the room with no additional cost is the Deluxe Junior Suite. If the Emerald Suite is selected the additional cost would be $128 for the length of stay for two people. Both room categories are very nicely appointed with similar amenities, however the Emerald Suites are closest to the beach .
ccsusan1
This may be too much information...but the Emerald suite does not have the bathroom privacy we Americans are accustomed to. The door to the toilet is not a full door.
Otherwise....the Emerald Suite has a beautiful HUGE jetted tube and plenty of room. We were in building 2 and it was convenient to the plaza and restaurants. If you want more privacy, I would recommend the swim-up suites.
(...and we stayed Sat. to Thursday....another couple of days would have been great!!!)
SusanandJeff
We were in an Emerald Suite for 1 week. The cost was $2800.00. Not sure how much more that is than the basic rooms. We loved our room, but next time we will probably go with a Silver Suite and stay and extra day. From the pictures they seem just as nice.
Shooty76
We stayed in a regular room (5 nights) and it did the job just fine. There was a king size bed, and a sitting area. The bathroom was adequate but not over the top. It was a decent size with one sink, one toilet with a separate door, shower (only big enough for one) and a jetted tub. The room still had a mini fridge and a coffee maker too. We didn't spend all that much time in our room anyway. If I had to choose between a nicer room or another day or two I would stay another day or two in the regular room!
afox23
the indoor jacuuzi is really nice but the beachfront rooms are not beachview. i'm not sure if you can get the indoor jacuuzi without beachfront. the swimout rooms aren't really swim out. . . a lazy river is approximately 15 ft away from the porch. we were on the 1st floor beach front and it wasn't worth the money.
moneyman116
I stayed in the emerald suite specifically for the ocean view, and even emailed the hotel and wrote in our cheap Caribbean booking my preference for second floor. We did not receive it and only saw jungle foliage right out our room. Unless you are booking for the huge hot tub, I personally would not book this room again. The others were just as sufficient.
IndianaSLP
We stayed in the Deluxe Jr. Suite and it was more than adequate. It had an enormous bathroom, huge balcony, and sitting area in addition to the beds. We honestly didn't spend much time in our room anyway since it was so beautiful by the pool and at the beach. We wished we had a few more days (we were there for five), so I'd definitely opt for elongating your trip!
hmorris714
When you go with Cheapcaribbean.com they usually will upgrade you one upgrade. Also call ahead and tell them it is a special occasion - the customer service and concierges are outstanding.
sherryKM
It ranges anywhere from $200 to $500
Sledge
Our "regular" room was very spacious and nicely appointed. I would spend the money instead on getting the privilege package, which allows you to make reservations at the restaurants and for palapas at the beach and pool, and gives you access to the privilege salon.
rgrm
My friend and I traveled as singles together, and upgraded to a Golden Junior Suite at an extremely reasonable cost, which was well worth it. We had complimentary robes and slippers in the room, a private pool for our end of the buidling beneath our balcony, a separate living/dining area which was wonderful when enjoying room service or when one of us was resting and the other wanted to read or watch tv. The bathroom had a jacuzzi tub and a separate shower, a separate toilet area with bidet! I say go for it and you won't be sorry!

The average weather for Riviera Maya in October is highest 85 degrees and the lowest is an averge of 75 degrees.
DanielleCC
Well I was there in the beginning of July and it was their rainy season. I talked with one of the workers and he said the summer (June/July/August) is really the only time of the year they get rain and the rest of the year is dry.

The weather is a very hot and humid climate.....

We were there October 4-9th, the weather was about 85 to 90 the whole time a lot of rain but, that is to be expected for October still a nice time to go

We were there Oct 5-9 and it was warm but not too hot. Buildings are air conditioned and pool was perfect temperature. It rained a little a couple of days but not a problem - twice it was early morning and only lasted a few minutes, and once it rained in the afternoon but we were in the pool and under the pool bar overhang, so it was actually quite fun!

can i get this deal if i am going by myself only?

It's a little more expensive if you book it by yourself. But I highly recommend to go to this trip even if you're single and by yourself. That's what I did and I am very happy. you get to meet so many friendly people and will never feel lonely. Go have fun...
mba44
Yes, you may certainly book a trip to this property for one person. The room rate that would be charged for a single would be about the same as the total of what two people in the room would pay. However the Promo Code Beach100 would be ineligible as it requires double occupancy.
ccsusan1
You can get the deal but there weren't too many singles, mostly couples. The few singles I met were disappointed that there weren't available matches.

This is a couples only resort it would not be fun if you were single look to meet someone.

dos equis amber and dark and coors light. that is it.

Dos equis, Tecate, I believe Tecate light and Coors light. No Corona.

Not much of a variety. They primarily serve Dos XX and Tecate. They DO NOT have Corona.
CoronaCowboy
Dos Equis, Coors light and Tecate Light.
chicagotravelers
The one thing that surprised me when I was there is all of the resorts are either Corona or Dos Equis, they won't have both. It must be some kind of distributor agreement. Valentin Imperial Maya was Dos Equis. They had the typical American beers there too but I think the taps were just Dos Equis is I remember correctly. As far as specialty beers I don't know, there was a Cigar Bar that had premium liquor, they may have had other beers too, not sure. I did not go in there.
CJCreasman
They have a big selection of beers and liquors

Tecate, Dos Equis and bud light...from what I saw.

What are the additional costs for the upscale tequilas at the Salon Partegas (Ciga Bar)6 answers
Do they have quality tequila at the other bars ?
1 year, 22 months ago

I only sampled the tequilas at Salon Partegas. All of the bars are close together and should you ask for something special, I'm sure the bar tender will arrange to have it brought to you.
The costs are not significant. I cannot remember exactly, but it wasn't high enough for me to take notice.
Be sure to bring some quality cigars with you as those at the resort are expensive.
Riain
If you don't ask for it, they will make your drinks with shelf liquor. All you have to do is ask them for quality tequila and they will happily make your drink with that. No additional charge.

Top notch alcohol is available all over the place, no extra charge anywhere was my experience. Bars and good service abound at this resort, including your choice of wine at the many excellent restaurants.

All the liquor was "top-shelf". Bombay Sapphire gin, Cabo Wabo tequila, Crown Royal.... no extra surcharge for any of these.

Not on site, but they can hook you up with Scuba Steve.

If you have your SCUBA certificate already, scuba diving trips can be booked (at additional cost) with any of the tour groups that have booths available in the lobby. My husband did a two tank dive in an underground cave which he loved!! They also have SCUBA courses they do in the pool at the resort to get your certfication.

AWSOME everything execpt maybe the italian place and I love italian too but was not really impressed the breakfast and the steak was amazing!!!!

Food was delicious! Desserts were good. We were able to try every restaurant. Our favorites were Le Marche for breakfast, Tierra for lunch, and Il Olivo (Italian) and Taman Sari (Indonesian) for dinner. L'Alsace had phenomenol food and dessert. Drinks were tasty. You will not be disappointed!
MrsDinnel
There are 7 different restaurants and you do not need reservations. There is Italian, French, Japanese, Indonesian, Mexican, Steak, and Seafood. While we were there about 2 restaurants per night were closed, but we still had 5 to choose from. They put out a newsletter each day that tells you which ones are closed. We went to a different restaurant every night and then picked our favorite to return to on our last night. You do not need reservations and we never had to wait for a table. They also have 24 hour room service and a bar that serves snack food later at night. The quality of the food was very good, we were always stuffed and happy :-)
Lauren435
There were lots of options, and the food ranged from good to great. Breakfast and lunch were absolutely amazing (lots of yummy seafood!) and dinner was generally good (we liked the Indonesian restaurant and the sushi place, but were unimpressed by the French restuarant)
BostonMatt
There were 7 restaurants at the resort and we ended up eating at 5 of them. All of them had excellent choices but oddly enough, none of the ones where we ate, offered Mexican fare. There is a Mexican restaurant but we just never made it there.
We only ate breakfast two mornings and both of those were buffet style. They were good and offered a wide variety. I wouldn't say that they were anything exceptional, but they were good. they offered the typical items: eggs, omelets, sausage, etc. The did have some very nice fruit options and fresh juices.
All of our dinners were gourmet in style and we both enjoyed them very much. I would say that they were 4 to 5 stars and would probably cost an arm and leg back home. The quantity was fine for us but, if you wanted more, you simply had to ask.
There were plenty of options. If you like seafood, they offered many fish dishes. The steaks were good but, that really isn't their speciality. If you are a vegetarian, there was a vegetable option at each meal as well. Since this is an adult only resort, there aren't any family style dishes, everything seems to be geared to pamper the adult palate. If you go to the Japanese restaurant, try the hibachi...it was fun and the food was awesome.
Room service was also available and offered a wide variety. It was good quality as well. I recommend the chicken taco as a nice late night snack.
I wouldn't worry about food at this resort...no matter how picky you might be, they will be able to satisfy.
I hope this helps.
mtoddg67
The food was delicious! Lots of different restaurant options to choose from: Mexican, Japanese, Italian, French, Indonesian, steak, and seafood. We ate at the buffet for breakfast and lunch every day and always found something new and delicious to try. The quality and service were impecable, and the presentation was beautiful! We were there five days but could have easily stayed longer without getting tired of the meal options.
hmorris714
There were 5 or 6 restaurants on the property. They are all themed, mexican (of course, but we did not eat there), Steak, Seafood, Japanese, Indian, and Italian I think. My favorite was the seafood and the sushi bar, the steak was good too. You can make reservations or just show up, it's pretty laid back, not like a cruise where you have to eat at a certain time. Room Service is supposed to be 24hrs too, couldn't get a hold of anyone when we called late on night though. The breakfast and lunch buffets are good. The place closer to the lobby is better than the place by the beach (more choices).
Regarding the quality, almost everything was top notch. The steaks and the seafood were great, the sushi was awesome. The hibachi table wasn't as good as i would have liked it but it was a good experience. We heard from another couple that the Mexican wasn't that good but we never tried it ourselves. Certain restaurants are closed on certain nights too so you'll have to check the days you are going so you don't miss a place you want to go.
CJCreasman
There are 5 main restaurants - ranging from steak, seafood, mexican, french and one other like japanese I think. The dinners are great - good service and nice food. You can get room service any time - free - but the menu is a bit limited but not bad. We loved the food and have been twice.

What is the minimum age-18?6 answers

Valentin Imperial Maya is an Adults Only (18+) All-Inclusive resort .
KellyCC
Yes, I believe that's correct (because the drinking age is 18). However, I saw VERY FEW people under the age of 25 @ VIM. It's not a Club Med or Sandals type of "party scene". That's not to say we weren't doing shots of tequila at the swim-up bar @ 11am (guilty as charged, your honor), but it seems to mostly attract couples in their mid 30's - mid 60's.

There is a chapel on the resort's property, however, it is usually used for wedding.
MariaCC
There is a lovely chapel on the grounds of the Valentin Maya and I believe a sunday mass is available
zoerose
There's a beautiful little chapel (seating for about 50?) on the grounds. Open air, very pretty. Wouldn't call it "non-denominational" as there was a crucifix and a beautiful statue of the Blessed Virgin. You would think Mass might be said there, but I didn't go or see any mention of it. My guess is that the chapel is used mostly for weddings. Worth calling the resort to get a definitive answer.

Transportation to and from town usually is not included. The resort is located minutes from the vibrant culture of Cancun and the world famous Mayan archaeological sites such as Tulum, Coba, and Chichen Itza.
MariaCC
There is a shuttle service that takes you to and from town. We did not utilize it, but were told at check in about the service. I am sure there is a charge, I don't remember what it is, though.
travelready
Yes you can set it up with the front desk
matt0905
Yes, $19 per person. Cheaper to do a cab if you share it with 4 people, then you can pick the amount of hours you want to stay. Playa Del Carmen is really nice, you could definately spend a whole day there, lots of shops and restaurants, close to beach.
DT11
yes there is a shuttle but it is not complimentary
you can prepay for the am or pm excursions at the travel desk
zoerose
Transportation can be arranged through the hotel, or you can book with a number of tour vendors located just to the right of the bell captains area (entrance) as you walk in towards the lobby. Olympus Tours was great for us, but others would likely be very good also. The shopping tour, for instance runs about $17.00 USD per person through the hotel, while the Olympus Tours ran us about $19.00 USD per person for a shopping trip and tour into Cancun. Other tours/trips will vary. Costs for taxis are considerably more expensive, but also less regimented.
DKKK
Paya del Carmen is the nearest town - about 20-25 min away... tons of fun!!! I highly recommend going in the early evening - very vibrant scene. Shopping, bars, restaurants, PEOPLE WATCHING... all right on one 3/4 mile street (5th Ave).
Cab from VIM was $25 one way.
VIM shuttle ran to/fm Playa 2x/day - $18 R/T
Best bet for us was to take a collectivo - only $2! For more info on collectivos, read here: http://www.travelyucatan.com/collectivo.php
rpkelly55
The hotel has a shuttle twice a day….morning and afternoon. Not sure of the morning times, but the afternoon takes you to Playa Del Carmen at 3:30 and back to the hotel at 7:30. Cost is $18 per person round trip. Cab fare (for two people) is $25 one way. We chose that option ($50 vs $36 for 2 people) but then we could come and go as we wanted. Before you just hop in any cab in Playa to go back, make sure you ask how much. Some cab drivers will say $40, some $25, and others somewhere in between. There is no shortage of cabs to take you back to the hotel, so they will deal with you! The only other and the cheapest option is to walk the LONG drive from the hotel out to the main highway and take the Collectivo (white window van usually) into town. That will probably cost you about $5. But then, on the way back, you'd get dropped off on the highway and have to hoof it back to the hotel from there.

is there a dress code for evening dinners or events ? Like long pants for men ?7 answers

Yes, several of the restaurants require long pants and collared shirts. There is a daily newsletter delivered to your room that states dress code for both women and men.
Rick1957
Yes there is a dress code for a few of the restaurants. Take a couple of button down shirts and a pair or two of khakis or slacks and you will be fine. I think the french restuarant is the only one the required slacks. The other places you can go into with jeans and a polo. My wife wore casual and sun dresses when we went to dinner.
Fireman804
Yes, long pants for men, no sleeveless shirts, women must wear "elegant sandals" for dinner. I walked to the restaurants barefoot and put my shoes on when I get there. Long walk and raining

Resort evening attire: ladies are expected to wear a dress or blouse with skirt, pants, dress jeans (not torn or ragged), capri pants, dress Bermuda shorts with dress shoes or elegant sandals. Sportswear, tennis shoes or beach sandals are not allowed. Men are expected to wear long pants or dress jeans (not torn or ragged), dress or casual shirt with a collar and sleeves, dress sandals with covered toes or loafers. Sportswear, shorts, sleeveless shirts, baseball caps, tennis shoes or sandals are not allowed.
MeganCC

Long pants for men and closed toe shoes for men. They also said no sneakers but didn't refuse the person in our group that only had sneakers. All but 2 restaurants followed the dress code.
ae0003
The restaurants near the beach (Lobster Pot for seafood and Tierra for steak) do not require long pants. The French, Italian, Japanese, and Indonesian restaurants DO require long pants. As a matter of fact, when I went to the Japanese restaurant (wearing short pants) and got on a short waiting list for the next available Hibachi Dinner, the hostess told me I needed to have long pants. I had to go back to my room...pronto (near the beach) and change. Men are also required to have collared shirts at these restaurants (polos ok). Not sure if all the restaurants enforce the rule. I saw men in the Mexican restaurant with shorts and no one said anything to them.

There are several bars on the property. One is a quiet sit down "martini and sushi" type bar, and the other is a sports bar with a few pool tables. There is always music and a party like atmosphere in the plaza. Playa Del Carmen is a $25 to $30 cab ride one way.

The Valentin Imperial Maya has a dress code for all of their specialty restaurants please see below:
Dress code: Casual shorts, bermudas, and t-shirts are welcome. No tank shirts, swim suits or wet clothing will be permitted. Dress shoes, casual shoes or sandals must be worn.
MeganCC
Yes there is a strict dress code for dinner. I brought 4-5 pair of shorts and did not wear a one. Swim trunks during the day and then at dinner, long pants and shirt with sleeves for the guys and dress or capris for the women. It is well worth the dress code for the food. It is impeccable. No regrets. (I live in jeans at home; it was nice to wear something different!)
Harleyman
The dress code is enforced in the restaurants. Males must wear long pants and a collared shirt. No shorts or open-toed shoes. We didn't see anyone turned away, but all were dressed appropriately. One gentlemen made a reservation for later in the evening. He was reminded of the dress code because at the time he was in shorts and tee shirt with flip flops.
There is no dress code for the buffet, or special dinner nights.
edwint
Yes - the dress code is enforced. So know that going down to the resort. The outdoor restaurants allowed walking shorts and nice sandals. But the rest require nicer dress for dinner.

Portable Beah Umbrellas?7 answers
Can you bring your own? I heard that is kind of a game played with reserving pool/beach chairs with palapas. If that's the case, I would like to bring my own if that is possible.
1 year, 14 months ago

You would likely be able to bring your own beach umbrella on vacation with you, however we advise checking with your airline directly as this may be considered a oversized piece of luggage and may incur a separate fee.
KristinCC
You can bring your own umbrella, pool raft, etc.
Harleyman
yes - I did see others with portable umbrellas. We were up and walking the beach every day by 7 or 7:30 and had no problem getting a palapa. Also - most early beach goers leave by 1-ish pm. So a little later in the afternoon there isn't a problem finding shade either.
TravelingfromOmaha
We never saw portable umbrellas, but that is an excellent idea and I don't see why it would be a problem. So many people come out and put towels under the palapas and then don't show up for hours, leaving the only available chairs out in the blazing sun. A portable umbrella would solve that issue!
moey
We had no problems finding seats at the main pool or on the beach. We went daily and stayed at the end of June.

Singles are definitely welcome. I will, however, say that the rooms are not exactly made for 2 friends who want to share a room. I say that because the bathrooms are very open. The door to the shower & the toilet are glass, so there is little privacy. There is a main door to the bathroom though that can be shut.
There were several single people there when we went last week. They were there for a couple of different weddings that were taking place. They seemed to be enjoying themselves.

Yes. We met two single women from Oregon on a trip and four single women from NY on a trip... but there are mostly couples.
Punch
I guess they are, did not see any though.

yes, but I don't think it would as enjoyable if you're looking to possibly find another single person there to spend your time with. Singles are scarce at this resort.

What has the weather been like recently? (end of April 2012)3 answers
Hello! We're coming to the Valentin the first week of May 2012 and I've been checking the weather report which unfortunately says its raining there now and pretty much all next week ;-(
Can anyone tell me if this is a constant rain/no sun situation or if this simply means that there's rain for a bit but sun and nice weather mixed in as well?
I'm so excited to do water sports and lay out by the pool/beach and I would really appreciate any insight as to the probability of bein able to do this
Thank you so much in advance!

According to www.holiday-weather.com, there are seven (7) average rain days in the month of May.

Rain will come in for about an hour and then go back to sunny. we went in june and had two days like that. just go to the pool and drink, then go back to beach.

the weather is kind of like florida. it is tropical so it may shower for a few minutes and that is all but on the whole it is clear and sunny. great pool to lay by.

Question about inclusive alcohol6 answers
Do they serve Makers Mark bourbon and Stolichnaya (stoli) vodka, and if so, is it considered part of the "inclusive" deal? If they don't have Makers or Stoli, what kinds of bourbons and vodkas are inclusive?
Texas
Not that I Saw... I didn't get the privilege package... but i can tell you there is nothing in the "Mini bar" in the room besides Dos equis Tacotta and soft drinks...
zelliotts
Yes, Maker's Mark. No Stoli. All liquors are included, everything you can order other than lobster is included.
Rachael2288
All types including Grey Goose, Jack Danniels, J Walker and yes they are part of all inclusive. This is the only resort we have been to (3 times here ) where there are no limits to brands and all are included. The only exception is if you want a special non-house wine in the restaurants. PS the house wine is very good.
PoolFool
Not sure about Makers Mark but no stoli, has to drink Finland
Pelusa
Yes they do, they serve both. They have several kinds of all liquors and the bartenders are outstanding! In the cigar bar they have very good scotch as well.
LovinValentin
don't drink alcohol
tatu
No makers, but there was Stoli. There was no separate charge
jadear
I do believe I saw Makers Mark up on the shelf. I do know I saw Johnnie walker Red and Black as well. They had a lot of top shelf liquors, I think only in the French restaurant did they have higher end stuff (Dom Perignon) for additional cost.
Hope this helps

All kinds. I took both a tankini and a 2 piece.

Whatever you are most comfortable in. There were bikini's, 1-piece suits, and some of the Italian women like to wear thong-like bottoms! haha!
Eryn044
there were all types of suites so anything goes really.

Most women wore bikinis at the pool- with coverup dresses when when walking around the resort. Others were wearing one pieces. I saw one woman (out of probably 100) wearing a thong bikini. Her accent hinted that she was a European.

What kind of beer and liquor do they serve?7 answers
Is the liquor premium? Please give the names of specific brands? What brands of Whiskey, Vodka, Rum, Gin and Tequila do you serve?
What kinds of beer do you serve?
Is the beer served in bottles or cans or is it served from a keg.
Michigan
The speicific brands of liquor and beer can vary, therefore you would be best to check directly with the resort as they would be able to advise on exactly what brands they are currently serving.
KristinCC
Dos Equis was the beer I saw most frequently at this resort. Dos Equis and another brand was stocked in the mini bar everyday. They also had a lot of Coors products. If you leave the resort grounds (for excursions, etc.), you might be able to find bars that serve more imported brands like Heineken, etc.
All beer was served in a can.
Lower end brands of liquor were used to make mixed drinks, but you could request higher end brands.
JanelStrawberry
They had cans of Tecate and XX beer in the room with us along with water and soda. Jose Cuervo Gold was the main tequila but they have some others. You wont find Patron or anything, but they make great drinks.
Punch
Premium liquors served: Bacardi, Captain Morgan, Johnny Walker red label, Jack Daniels
Beer: Coors lt, Dos Equis, Tecate.
I saw some beer in cans, but lots of draft as well. I am not sure what other liquor brands there were.
CANDG
the liquor is the full range, no cheapo brands. They serve all you want of all brands, Jack daniels, Grey Goose, Johnny Walker, Sambucca etc etc. This is the first all inclusive we have been to where the drinks are the same as if we walked into a classy retaurant or bar. The staff gladly mix drinks of all types. We fell in love with the "Dirty Monkey"; half a banana, Kalua, coconut milk and vodka. Beer is generally on tap around the pool for obvious reasons to avoid glass. Some brands are in cans.
PoolFool
Beers are mostly Dos Equis amber and loger, and I did see pacifico. I didn't drink hard liquor but I don't think they are premium. You get beer from the tap or cans in the fridge.
magnus777
They had top shelf stuff, Stoli vodka, tanquery gin, hornitos tequila, Johnnie walker red and black. Beer was Dos equis XX and dark both on tap.

What is the perks to upgrading to a Golden Jr. Suite vs Deluxe Suite6 answers
10 months ago
Florida USA
The upgrade put us closer to the pools, beach and buffet restaurant, plus an ocean view.
KelMar
We were just there and had a Golden Jr. Suite and loved it. I dont believe you get any extra perks but the room is MUCH larger and has big hot tub and I feel the rooms have a better location, little more quiet. If you are going for a long stay you have to have this room a short stay and the smaller room might be OK. I would suggest eamiling VIM and asking a room on the third floor building 6.
Costello
price wize there isnt any difference. The only difference is how the bathroom is laid out and if its open to the bedroom like it is in the silver suites.
booty63
Just a bigger room. The bathroom is separated by doors. They are beautiful rooms, all of them , Golden is a bigger room,
LovinValentin
The Deluxe Jr.Suite is a very nice room, we have stayed in this room the last 2 times we were at the Valentin. While we were there last week, we took a tour of the other catagories of rooms. The Golden Suite was by far the nicest room we looked at, even more so than the Emerald Suite. The layout, expanded bathroom, and fabulous view of the swim-up pool and the ocean in the distance conviced us to book the Golden for next year.
SusieQ2010
yes, not much difference

Is the evening dress code just for the restaurants or the entire resort?9 answers
I'm traveling with at group and some don't like to dress up while on vacation; Will the men be able to wear shorts to dinner? is the dress attire enforced?
Izzy
There is a dress code at some of the restaurants at the resort. As per the information on our site, the dress code is:
Resort casual: shorts or jeans with casual tops or t-shirts. Bathing suits must be covered and dry. No bare feet are allowed. Resort evening: ladies are expected to wear a dress or blouse with skirt, pants, dress jeans (not torn or ragged), capri pants, dress Bermuda shorts with dress shoes or elegant sandals.
As far as specific information on when the dress code goes into effect or what exact restaurants have a dress code at any given time, you would be best to check with the resort directly.
KristinCC
The French and Italian Rest. requires men to be in slacks not shorts. Most places are casual!!
psychrn83
Pants for men are enforced at all restaurants, but well worth it!
LovinValentin
No shorts at dinner. Some people were dressed up, but most wore neat casual.

This resort does not have a Disco. Sports and Music Bar is a meeting spot. Laugh and dance the night away with lights, video, bar and entertainment and activities team. Daily, 4pm-2am
KellyCC
We just returned and really enjoyed the nightlife at the resort. They have six restaurants that only open at night and offer different types of cuisines (French, Italian, Indonesian, etc.) a few different bars/lounges and a nightly dance party in the plaza area. I would say it's more quiet than what you would find if you went into the city and it seemed like there were mostly couples at the resort, so if you're looking for something more lively, this might not be the place to go. But if you're looking for something more chill but still fun, this is a great choice!

They have a show or movie most nights and music out in the plaza as well. This is a pretty quiet resort compared to those in cancun.

Is there such thing as ocean view/ocean front???3 answers
5 months ago
Los Angeles, Ca
At the Valentin Imperial Maya, the Deluxe Jr Suite category offers ocean, pool or garden views depending on exactly where in the building you are placed. The views can only be requested and are never guaranteed as they are assigned based on availabilty at check in. Additionally, the Emerald Suites are located in the buildings closest to the beach, but the view is not necessarily an ocean view.
KateHCC
There is not an ocean front. We stayed on the top floor (three floors) facing the ocean and we were able to see the ocean from our room. The first and second floors where we were you could not see the ocean. Not sure about the rest of the resort. It is very spread out.
lymc1968
Due to environmental restrictions there is no real view to the ocean as nature can not be touched to a great extend. But the place is simply awesome particularly for adults.

This hotel is All-Inclusive.
Features include:
•All meals
•Unlimited drinks, including all bars
•Entertainment activities day and night
•Non-motorized water sports activities
•All taxes and gratuities
KellyCC
Yes, the price of meals/drinks is included, unless you order lobster or extremely premium bottles of liquor. We did not spend any money on food/liquor - the "free" choices were more than enough! I would recommend bringing cash though for tipping - we tipped our bartenders, servers, and maids (nothing extreme, but a few bucks is always appreciated). Although tips aren't required, the staff greatly appreciates it and will go the extra mile for you if you do!
locqua
Meals and drinks all included, lobster a extra charge about $30 at most restaurant. Spa costs extra.
Lightheaded
yes it is an all inclusive resort so all you need to bring is tipping money.I brought 150 dollars in singles- 5 dollar bills and 2 dollar bills and still came home with 30 dollars. it's amazing how people would go to the restaurant and not even leave a few dollars for the waiters who worked very hard..if you can pay money to come to this resort then you can leave a few dollars for the hard working people.
lindseyNvegas
Some items are extra like the Lobster $40 or special bottles of wine. We tip, it is not necessary, but the service was good and they work hard and heard they do not make alot of $. We would tip bartenders, waiters, maidservice,bellhops... We probably spent an extra $100 in tips, but my husband is a big tipper.

Is transportation provided between the resort and the airport part of the all-inclusive rate?2 answers
3 months ago
Ohio
The roundtrip airport transfer service is not included with the resort's all inclusive plan, however, this service can be purchased with your vacation package during the booking process.
MariaCC
No it isn't included in the package but I paid $40 per person for round trip transportation and it was a great choice. You don't want to take the risk of getting a taxi when you get to the airport. It will cost you more and it's better to have your transportation waiting. Cheap Caribbean uses Olympus tours and they have reps right at the resort. We used them to book 2 great excursions and they were at a good price.
Sunny83
What does the privilege package include and what is the cost?2 answers
3 months ago
Todd
CheapCaribbean does not sell the privilege package, therefor to get further information and pricing you must contact the resort directly.
CaitlinCC
So I believe the priveledge package is $700 per person. We did not use package this time, but may consider it next time. The package allows you to order seafood that for normal guests has an upcharge to order (400 mxp for surf & turf or lobster-per person, per meal), it also gives you your choice of all of the liquors to have in your room (you get 4 choices), you get fresh flowers in your room on arrival, and you get a private beach or pool side padded and covered lounger (which could be added to a normal package for $60 US per person with a 3 day minimum).
So, my advise is that if you want the nice padded loungers everyday and plan to eat a lot of lobster for dinner then this package is definitely a great value. If you dont use this stuff then you are wasting money. The restaurants have plenty to choose from without ordering the upcharged seafood and the normal loungers are in nice shape.

We bought the package deal here, once you get to Cancun its a nightmare if you don't have transportation arranged. However cabs were cheap when we went to Playa it cost about $25-$30 each way, the distance was about the same as it was to the airport so I would guess you could get a fair for $30, but you have to wheel and deal. Cheapcaribbean is offering a vacation to this resort for several hundred dollars less than Apple, so my wife and I would like to use this site. (We used Apple for our honeymoon last year). Our only concern is the airport transfers. With Apple. it was very easy to find the appropriate person and they had someone on site at the hotel we could talk to. Cheapcaribbean says we must pay $40/person to arrange airport transfers. This is fine because we still come out way ahead money wise so that isnt the issue, but we are concerned about using a private company for transfers. Can someone please detail their experiences using Olympus Tours after booking a vacation through this website?
Ohio USA
The reputable company we use, Olympus Tours, takes care of each and every CheapCaribbean.com client.
MariaCC
We used Olympus Tours for our transport for about the same price you are quoting. We were pleased with the service and would use them again on our next trip. Olympus Tours has a representative that works at the resort and can offer additional tours during your week stay.
Heavyd175
Very safe and easy to find. After you pass through customs keep walking until you reach the doors to the outside. MANY people will try to stop you and tell you about certain tours etc and offer you deals to book them right then. We listened to them and were interested in booking an excursion or two until they told us that in order to get the discount we had to tour one of the nearby newer resorts which we didn't want to take the time to do. So this wasted about 20 minutes when we could have been on our way to the resort. So be aware of this.
beachguru
Me and myhusband used this site and everything ran so smooth it was almost too easy!!! the transportation bus is waiting outside and very convenient to find.just make sure when you passed through immigration to walk straight outside past the people who are offering you ride the a taxi or private car
lindseyNvegas
This is who we used, cheap Caribbean, and all was wonderful. $40 well worth it, nice vans and buses. We also arranged another outing from the hotel with Olympus, would recommend.
sassie
There is a representative at the airport exit that will guide you to the van. We had no issues. They do make you talk to the tour rep at the hotel to validate the return trip. This is probably an attempt to get you to buy other excursions, but the guys there were really cool and didn't try to sell us anything we weren't asking about. This was my second trip through CC and have had no issues.

How is the air conditioning in the rooms and restaurants?6 answers
When my wife and I stayed in the Dominican Republic last year on our honeymoon, our A/C was pretty sub-par, even though we were in a priviledged suite. There was exactly one vent for our huge room, and it was way up by the ceiling, and did little to cool the room. It wasnt as hot as outside, but it was definitely not "refreshing". I dont mind the heat, in fact enjoy it, when I am at the beach and pool, but when I come back from a walk, or the gym, or dinner where I had to wear pants, I want to be cool and refreshed. Can anyone elaborate on this convenience at this resort? Thank you.

Ohio
All room categories for this resort have working air conditioners. This resort offers open air restaurants and air conditioned restaurants. The restaurants that are in air conditioning are the French restaurant, the Italian restaurant, and the Indonesian restaurant.
CaitlinCC
Our room was set to 68 degrees when we got there and we never had to adjust the thermostat. We had a few days were the temps were in the upper 80's and the room stayed right were it needed to, even with somewhat high humidity.
The breakfast and lunch restaurants are buffet style and are open air, where there are no walls that separate dining areas from the outdoors. Seating can be partial covered outside patio, or full covered inside. Very nice setting.
Dinner restaurants have 6 options, some inside some outside open air partial covered. The inside restaurants have air conditioning and are very pleasantly controlled.
Heavyd175
We had no problems with our AC at all.
beachguru
The restaurants are great, however the rooms will cool only to 67, but with ceiling fan it is ok. I prefer my room real cool at night, but this was fine
sassie
The air was ok. Could not make our room cooler than 68 degrees. Did feel cool when you come from outside. The resturants were a bit cooler. But not cold that you need a wrap. During breakfast you can request the air conditioned area.
wam65
We had no issues with the AC and we were on the top floor.

Olympus tours- what time do they pick you up?6 answers
If my flight leaves at 4:45pm on my day of departure what time can I expect to get picked up? I've heard that they pick you up five hours ahead of time... Is this true?
Detroit, MI
There are a number of factors that would attribute to the pick up time at the resort. The resort is 30 minutes away from the CUN airport. Also, because it is an international flight, you are required to be at the airport 3 hours prior to departure. The exact time will be given to you by the Olympus representative, but you can expect to be picked up at the very latest at 1pm the day of departure.
KristenCC
For our trip we were picked up about 3 hours before our departure. The resort is about 40 minutes from the airport and they recommend that you be at the airport 2 hours early. We shopped at the duty free shop, had lunch at Margarittaville, walked through most of the shops, and still needed to wait to load on the plane. Olympus Tours took care of us just fine.
Heavyd175
Our flight was at 2:45pm and they picked us up at noon, so not too bad.

Our flight (on 3/11) left at 3:30 pm & we were picked up at 12:30 pm

Ask the bartender when you arrive, but it is an all inclusive resort; unless you were walking around with glass, we don't see why they would find an issue with it.

We did not bring our own cups, but there were a few groups that did.
Heavyd175

Is the Priviledge beach area at Valentin part of the" towel game" or are there enough palapas for everyone ?3 answers
2 months ago
Jake
There are plenty of chairs open at the beach each day. If you want to ensure you get an umbrella spot then I might go out earlier to snag one. There is a section of beach beds under umbrellas, but these are all reserved and are something you pay extra for. It's a per day charge for the "VIP package." We opted not to do this and I'm happy we did. We like to be in the sun on a trip like this and all the reserved beds are shaded.
beachguru
The Privilege beach beds are for people who pay an extra fee to become "Privileged". Someone told us that he paid and extra $60. That might be per person. However, the beach can be used by anyone but you would have to drag the beach chairs to that area. The "towel game" is played under the pagodas--you need to get there by 7:00 to get a shady spot. Also, I think that people who purchase "privilege" do not have wait for a dinner reservation, and might have other perks, too--such as a separate pool.
2Beachlovers
I did not notice any Palapas that were available they were all reserved with names but no one seemed to be in them. We had no problem finding chairs under the thatched unbrellas on the beach. The pool are not as ease. Put we just flated in the pool.

Is there a door on the bathroom in the Jr. Deluxe Suite?5 answers
I have read that a lot of hotels and resorts in Mexico don't have a door on the bathroom. Does this hotel have a door or is it more like a curtain or a room separating the living area and the bathroom area? Thanks.
Ohio
The Deluxe Jr. Suites are perfect for friends and family because there is total privacy between the bedroom and bathroom.
LaurenCC
YEs there is a door, but the wall that seperates the bathroom from the bedroom is open due to the bathtub.NO PRIVACY! You can hear and smell everthing
suunymiche
there is a frosted glass door to the toilet and shower. The bathroom door is solid, however there is only a nice curtain around the hot tub which actually connects the bedroom to the bathroom. It`s not bad if you are married, someone may want to step out on the veranda if not.
sassie
Yes, not only was there a door to the bathroom in the deluxe junior suite but there was a separate door on the toilet area of the bathroom. The bathroom was huge, it had separate shower, whirlpool and toilet areas. FYI- lots of toiletries too, toothbrushes, toothpaste, razors, shampoo and conditioner, soap, lotion, etc.
HisPrincess
Yes, there is a door on the bathroom. The living area and the bathroom are 2 separate areas.

how is the food?3 answers
nursiness
Food quality at any restaurant is very subjective. What one person loves, another may despise. From the information posted in the reviews of this particular resort, it appears most guests very much enjoy their meals. Out of approximately 600 reviews, the average rating for dining options is a 4.5 out of 5.
BILLCC
The food was really REALLY good. The breakfast and lunch are both buffet style, but they were both excellent especially the breakfast. For dinner they open all of the premium restaurants, no reservations required. There may be a wait depending on what time you get there, but they give you a pager and there is always entertainment going on and plenty of premium drinks available while you wait. I don't think we waited more than 30 minutes any night. I highly recommend the Japanese and French restaurants. The others are also all very good. Probably the best resort food I've had.
DingoDing
Food is good to very good with lots of choices. We liked the French restaurant the best with the hibachi place a close second.

My wife and I have visited the resort twice in the past 6 months (just got home 3 days ago) and we feel the privilege package is well worth the modest fee that they charge. 1st of all, when you arrive at your room, there will be flowers and a fruit basket waiting for you... along w/ a bottle of sparkling wine and 4 bottles of premium alcohol of your choice (750 ml bottles.)
The mini-bar has beer, soda and bottled water provided and restocked each day. They even throw in a heavy canvas beach bag.
Another big plus is getting preferred reservations at all the resturants as well as palapas at the beach and by the pool... very important, considering all the sunshine there. You also have access to the privilege club-room where they have a wide assortment of complimentary drinks every day.

They had a pretty expansive wine list. We are big wine drinkers (we prefer red), and the resort's 'house red' (can't recall the name) wasn't too bad. Not the BEST wine, by any means, but not bad at all! They offered both a cab and a merlot in their house brand.

Here you will find an abundance of possibilities, something for every person of any age, for every type of vacation, for every budget and every activity.
Escape the real world at this luxurious Caribbean hideaway. Valentin
Imperial Riviera Maya's specialty is tropical romance so, naturally, the resort
offers plenty of wedding and honeymoon packages. Look and feel your best for
the ceremony (and wedding night!) with the help of the luxurious, on-site spa.
The bride can fend off pre-wedding stress with the Four Hands Massage, and the
men's Homme Facial will have the groom glowing for his special day.
Of course, you don't need a trip down the aisle to enjoy the sultry Valentin
Imperial Riviera Maya. Couples in love or celebrating a golden anniversary will
enjoy the Mexican hacienda-style suites. Book one with a Jacuzzi to make your
personal corner of paradise even more relaxing. From 24-hour room service to
free high-speed Internet access in every room, the resort encourages guests to
ditch the real world in lieu of this private retreat.
While you may be away from it all, we recommend that you leave the comforts
of your room for at least a little, or you'll miss the fabulous food at
Valentin Imperial Riviera Maya's nine restaurants. Even breakfast is a gourmet
affair at Le Marche, with its omelet station and local fruits and veggies. The
casually elegant Taman Sari serves up an eclectic mix of Thai and Indonesian
dishes. If you just want to grab a tropical cocktail while you sunbathe on the
beach, the Sunrise & Sunset bar is close at-hand. Seven other bars also
serve unlimited drinks throughout the resort.
To top off its appeal, Valentin Imperial Riviera Maya is set amid lush,
tropical vegetation, providing a tropical background for memories that will
