Beautiful grounds
This is a beautiful resort. The only problems were at check-in they had put us in a double bed and we made reservations for a king which we ended up getting but with a lot of hassle, they only have one kind of beer, uncomfortable bed, wifi is $11.00 an hour, and it is 45 minutes between downtown Cancun and 45 minutes between Playa downtown. So you just can't hop in a cab unless you want to spend $100 round trip. The entertainment at the pool was great, but mainly for the younger crowd, but I can't say enough good things about the staff, they were excellent. They offer 6 restaurants but close 2 each night. That leaves only 4 dining options. There is only 1 place for breakfast but it was very good. If you stay in the back buildings it is a hike to get anywhere. Be sure and ask for the Preferred Club up front because when we got there they were sold out.
Was not happy about the check in service. We purchased the "preferred" package, so not worth it! We arrived at 12:30 at that point we were told our room would not be available until 3:30. During this time no one, informed us that we could go get our bags and change our clothes so we sat in the Lounge for 3 hours waiting for our room. When they finally tell us our room is ready. We get there only to find out neither of our keys work, so he bellman had to let us in with his key. Then on top of that it was the wrong room. We paid for a king suite and we received a room with two beds that look like twins. Back to the Lounge we go and I had to explain that not only don't our keys work, but that wasn't the room I paid for. So they finally found us another room and we had to find another bellman to return to the original room to retrieve our bags and then take us to our new room. So we waited 4 hours for our room. Not impressed with the check in process and beware of the VIP breakfast, we didn't catch on until it was too late, but we still didn't go. After this our trip was great, wonderful food, excellent staff. Especially when my hubby misplaced his oakley sunglasses, i figured they were gone but the waitress put them at the bar for him. There are some honest people in the world.
Everything about this place was great! The resort was stunningly beautiful, the staff was very, very friendly AND helpful, and the food was delicious! I had read tons of reviews on this site, as well as several others, so I had some expectations of what problems we might run into....I was ready to get up early to reserve beach chairs, have long waits to be seated at the restaurants, maybe deal with a few grumpy employees, etc. NONE of that happened! We were always able to find a chair, either by the pool or on the beach, no matter what time of day we wanted it. We tried all of the restaurants and the wait to get in was always reasonable and we thoroughly enjoyed every meal (but the Mediterranean themed Cibu was our favorite) . The employees were so friendly and so nice...on several occasions they actually went out of their way - without being asked - to make us extra happy. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The beach was gorgeous. I have traveled quite a bit, stayed in a number of all-inclusives...I can honestly say that this was one of the best! I am definitely planning on coming back!!!!
P.S. We did not opt for the "preferred advantage" upgrade and we never noticed a difference.

I am looking to book a trip (March 6 - 11th, 2011) to the Now Sapphire Riviera Cancun but would like to upgrade the room to a perferred junior suite ocean front. Can I do this upgrade and how?
2 years, 28 months ago
Art
There are Preferred Club Junior Suite Tropical View rooms available for your dates of travel, however it looks as though the Ocean Front rooms are not cuurently available for those dates. If you are flexible in your dates of travel, the OceanFront room is available in the weeks after March 6. This is, of course, subject to change, based on availability.
KateCC
I would call them before you arrive or ask when you check in. The earlier the better though. Have fun!!
DHW19
NO - you have to do it at the hotel - its about $80 per day and gets you an ocean view room with wireless internet - it's not worth the extra unless you really want it.
shinkie
Do it here before you leave we got ripped off at the Resort the charged us for the "Prefered" but gave us a regular room and allowed us to use the amenities
Rebelmom
You can do it at the hotel when you check in. About $600 per couple per week.
Crankyhanky
That's exactly what we did. We called a CheapCaribbean rep and she helped us do the upgrade. The upgrade was definitely worth it!!!
FramilyFun
I am planning a trip in September and am reading a lot of different opinions on the preferred upgrade. If I do it now it's only $200 extra or so for the entire trip, is it worth it?
From reading the description I see the limited pool access area, but is the room any type of upgrade really?
Anonymous
You can upgrade anytime, even when you arrive at the resort.
Anonymous
not worth upgrade. u just get a few extra kicks. other people i talked to said not worth extra money. we just got back aug. 26th ..
mommylauren
I upgraded my room at the last minute by contacting the resort via email. They were able to make these arrangements. I thoroughly recommend the upgrade - ask for 2nd floor or higher and you'll have a jacuzzi on the balcony.
CaribbeanVacationLover
I always upgrade to ocean view. Your going to Mexico! Seeing and hearing the ocean is why you go!! The "tropical view" will get you smack dab in the jungle from your balcony. We did see some wild cats around the resort and heard some dogs. I always request NOT on the first floor because I don't want anything sneaking into our room. As for the Preferred club, I think it is waste of money. Here you can use the adult pool if you are preferred but it is REALLY quite there. If you want to socialize the regular pool is where everyone hangs out.
jenyd
Art,
We just got back from NOW Sapphire.... Enjoyed our week, great time, food, drinks, etc.
When we checked in at the desk, we were offered the opportunity to upgrade, for a fee, but we declined the offer. We were close enough to the pools, beach and main building that having the sun and surf on our balcony was not a priority.
With great weather, you'll have a great time. All the restaurants are fantastic. Bring 1 or 2 pair of long pants for dining (I survived on 1).

This question is way past. (March6-11th 2011 but to answer this general and frequent question....You can upgrape to preferred when booking the reservation or once you get to the resort. Personally my husband and I agree that we would wait til we get to the resort. Prices tend to be more negotiable and then you can see what preferred status can get you. We feel it is really worth it but thats only our opinion! We enjoyed the preferred lounge and the quiet preferred pool area.best! The staff in the preferred lounge were awesome to us! We celebrated our 30th Wedding Anniversary there!

Does the Now Sapphire Riviera Cancun have ashtrays on the property?11 answers
We purchased our tickets and I was doing some research online and found out it's a non-smoking hotel... Can we still smoke on the balcony and around the propery (just not indoors)?
1 year, 22 months ago
Mysty
Resorts have designated areas outdoors where smoking is permitted.
MariaCC
There are no ashtrays in the room. However, there were people that were smokng outside and in the bar and loiunge areas. They even have a guy that hand rolls cigars so you should be okay.
dinai
For this to be a non-smoking hotel - the main lobby bar area is huge and opens out in several directions - to the pool, to the show dining room and theater, to the main lobby and to the restaurants. This area is open - no walls so the ocean breezes are always flowing through. There were ashtrays here and there were a lot of smokers. I am not a smoker and do not have a problem with others smoking but I also do not want to stay in a place where I have to be constantly surrounded by the smell of smoke. For all of the smokers, it really was not a problem because of the constant circulation of outside air. The one thing I didn't like was they also sell cigars in this area and there were a few that bought and smoked these - much stronger odor that lingered longer.
mkoehler
Yes, everyone smoked here. Just not in restaurants or in rooms.
Crankyhanky
I know there were ashtrays in the resort lobby area. Unfortunately i didn't pay too much attention to where you could smoke because i don't smoke.
FramilyFun
You can smoke outside. They have ashtray/trashcan combos around the property
Dubblegz
Yes they have ashtray around outside. Just no smoking in the room or restaurants.
airbiscuit
We saw numerous guests smoking on the resort grounds. We are nonsmokers so we noticed others walking along the sidewalks and poolside smoking.
DisneyCrazy
Yes - you can smoke everywhere but in the room.
akh3646
We actually seen guest smoking right on the beach
TLITTLE
try smoking cessation program. we prefer nonsmokers in resorts sorry that is just my opinion. there are kids around better to be smoke free environment.

does this hotel cater to teens? are there lots of jellyfish inn the ocean?
is the food terrible?
is there any resort better?

The hotel does not cater to teens. I did not see very many jellyfish in the ocean because you cannot get in the ocean for the sea weed. The Valentine was highly remember by some people that stay there, who was riding on the bus back to the airport. My next trip I will stay at THE ROYAL.
Mellie
market cafe is open air facing the beach, the deck is open for the preferred members. yes there are seaweeds but that is part of nature, The explanation why there more than other is that there is nearly corral reef by the Yucatan Peninsula. Not really bothersome.yes they cater to teen they have young entertainment team to keep the very young and teens with the explorer club . I see them on the pool and beach for the volleyball games. water polo etc. pls read my review on food on the comment section. Not bad at all except lemongrass restaurant. I recommend place for family.
queencafe
The restaurants are air conditioned. There is seaweed on the beach but not an overwhelming amount that makes not want to use it.
Dublin
Yes, the holtel does cater to teens. They have an activity program daily for adults and teens. It would be a great place for kids to go. We did not see any jellyfish and we spent time in the ocean. The food is awsome! I have been to Mexican resorts numerous times and the Now Sapphire has some of the best food available. The outdoor restaurant has Ribeye steaks that they cook on the grill; they were wonderful! They have a sushi restaurant that is great; all of the food and service is great. All but one restaurant is air conditioned. The beach is sandy and clean!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anonymous
they have a kids club . but for the younger ones. they say they have a teen club. but they dont offer much. yes lots of jelly fish. i got bitten up alive by bugs on the beach . food was good small portions. restaurants are air conditioned. not the market buffet where they serve breakfast and dinner, hotel is not near anything. if you stay closer in can cun near marriot other hotels ..
mommylauren
I don't know what is available at the hotel for teenagers.
The food was not excellent,. but satisfactory
The restaurants are not air conditioned.
The beach is nice - but there was alot of seaweed.
halloween
I don't know about the restaurants because I never went there. There are buffets almost every night that come with a show so that is the obvious choice. The buffet has a lot of options and the food is great. There is also a breakfast buffet that is good and has everything that you could want. Room service has many options but the food is not good. Don't worry cause you will eat so much throughout the day that you would not even need room service. The beach does have seaweed but it is not nasty. I'm not a beach lover and even I found it hard to leave the beach. The water feels AMAZING. The seaweed comes from the reef. No jellyfish at all. The resort does cater to teens. There is a kids club that has many different activities and video games to keep them busy. NO RESORT BETTER!!!
mekaboo
There was no air conditioning in the restaurants when we were there. Not sure if that is due to it being off season or not. Could have used some, especially at night. The beaches were beautiful and clean. There was some seaweed in the water due to storms that came through at night. We did have a jellyfish warning one day, but I did not see any. I don't know if the hotel caters to teens or not, did not travel with children. The food was delicious and the service exceptional. I have been to many resort down there and this one is as nice as many of them. Not as big, but definately a place I would go back to again.
msboggsy
1. Most of the restaurants are air conditioned- you have the option to sit outside at some of them if you wish.
2. Seaweed does get washed up on the beach but there is a guy with a tractor and a giant rake-looking thing picking it up all day so it never gets in the way.
3. Fun for all ages. We didn't see any jellyfish.
4. Food= delicious. When I went to Puerto Vallarta a few years ago, the food was gross. Now Sapphire served me the best steak I have ever had- and I live in Nebraska; we are known for our good beef!
5. This resort was extraordinary- I have zero complaints!!!
HappilyEverAfter
I went to 3 differnt resorts while down there a week ago. Love this one the best. It has a kid zone and there are activities for all age kids throughout the day and night.
No I didn't see any jellyfish. There is seaweed but that can't be helped.
The food was good. Wasn't awesome but was not bad.
katie1780
there were not a lot of kids when we were there in mid October. Did not see any jelly fish but someone we know got stung by one according to the medics on site. We liked Now Jade better because the bathroom was more spacious and you could see the ocean from the pool. Our favorite is Dreams Riviera Resort and Spa. Food here was good, loved the asian restaurant and no reservations required like a lot of places.

is there a club for teenagers age 16 and 14 Thanks? Is there entertainment in the evening?

The beach and ocean are wonderful! It is sandy and very clean. There are many activities for the young. They have a room with a WII and Playstation and lots of outdoor activities for them throughout the day. They keep them very busy. They have pool tables and ping pong tables outside too. They also have a trampoline there and you are secured in a strapped outfit and you can jump and do flips in the air! My kids would love it, even my four year old.
Anonymous
beach was awful. sea weed everywhere. a truck comes by to pick up the sea weed. i wanted to go in. but it was gross.
mommylauren
We were on the beach daily. The beach is nitce but the ocean had a lot of seaweed.
I don't know if there is a club for teenagers.
halloween
The beach is beautiful, the sand is clean and extremely soft. You can go in the ocean, however, it is very close to a reef so there is a lot of plants and seaweed in the water.
The is a "club" for teenagers with different activities almost every hour. I believe it is called the "core zone".
The resort has entertainment each evening; something new each night. There are also scheduled actvities throughout the day.
zenka
The beach is great but there is some seaweed. Don't be fooled by the seaweed though because the water is AMAZING and I'm not even a beach lover. The beach is not as crowded as the pool which is a good thing when trying to relax. There is a kids club but I do not know the age ranges. Everyday, and night, there are activities and entertainment. A lot of fun to be had.
mekaboo
The sand on the beach is white and wonderful, the beach is only blue/green for about 20 feet, there is seaweed.
I don't have teenagers so I dont' know what they might have for them. yes, they have live music in the lobby bar area every night and there is dancing there. It is a great place to meet people.
Grannyjanny
The beach is very nice. Clean and many chairs to choose from. The water had a bit of seaweed in it due to the storms during the night. The water is warm and wonderful. I didn't travel with kids, but did not see a teen club. They did have a club for younger kids. There was some king of entertainment each evening and then a band around 10 p.m. with dancing. The disco was also open.
msboggsy
We spent a lot of time on the beach and playing in the ocean- the sand is so soft and the water is really clear (as long as it isn't really windy). As far as the evening entertainment, they have different entertainment every night (they had a caribbean show, Mexican dance theater, Magician, etc. when we were there). They are family friendly but not cheesy- fun for all ages, in my opinion!
HappilyEverAfter
There is a night club. When we were there a week ago. It was pretty dead. Maybe during prime time season it picks up alittle. I think it is also more for adults. They do have a kid section and activities throughout the day.
katie1780
water was warm, the sand is incredibly soft!! There is some seaweed that washed up but a tractor runs thru and picks it up. No shells to pick up for kids.
jenyd
The beach is awesome. The water is clear, but there is some sea grass growing close to shore. You just have to find a nice sandy spot to walk out.

Hi Sheryl,
The only outdoor dining option at the Now Sapphire is the Romantic Dinner on the Beach which is offered at an additional cost for all customers. All the restaurants at the resort are located indoors. Feel free to contact us with any additional questions.
ccsusan1
All restaurants are open to all guests regardless of preferred status (except continental breakfast in the preferred lounge).
lolasaysyes
Yes - several of the restaurants have outdoor dining for everyone - not just preferred club guests. You can also plan a romantic dinner on the beach at an extra cost.
CaribbeanVacationLover
Outdoor dining is for preferred guests only unless you schedule a romantic dinner on the beach. Spring for the preferred club. Breakfast by the beach is beautiful.
mekaboo
yes, some of the restaurants have outdoor dining, doesnt matter if your preferred or not.

When it comes to dinning there is no difference between the regular guests or the preferred guest, when you arrived at the check in station at the restaurants they don't know if you are regular or preferred just tell you you would like outdoor seating.

Grannyjanny
All dining is done in the dining rooms (even if you are not a preferred guest) unless they have a dinner occassion set up on the beach.

Yes, you can dine outdoors at the Bluewater Grill (steak and seafood restaurant, small portions) or at the French and Asian restaurants on nights when they are open.

There is wi-fi for a daily or hourly fee. Service is available in the rooms, lobbies and pool area.
Professora
There is wifi available at the hotel free for preferred guest or at a charge of 15$ for daily access. There is also a business center with 3 computers located near the main lobby and additional computer access located at the preferred guest lounge.
kfieldin
There is WiFi available. I'm not sure if its around the whole resort or not as we only tried accessing while in our room. We didn't pay anything for it because we upgraded to a "preferred" status so it was included in our package. I highly recommend upgrading because there are lots of great perks with it.

Do I need to apply Mexico visa for this trip? Is there any age limitation?4 answers
I am 20 and now holding F1 visa, studying abroad in USA.

Please be advised that we only have information for those holding a US passport. We do recommend contacting the embassy regarding the requirements you would need to travel to Mexico.
MariaCC
Cheap Caribbean should be able to answer that question.
FROST
We just used our passport. I think the age limitation is over 18
bigjack47
Not sure if an F1 Visa is just for studying or familiar with its restrictions however, you need a Passport to be able to travel abroad. The regular Passport will do & then you would not need Mexico visa. Hope this helps.

Whats the average cost for a treatment at the spa?5 answers
We were thinking about getting a massage and were wondering if it costs extra or is included in all inclusive? How much?
1 year, 12 months ago
Louisville, KY
Spa services are not include in the all inclusive package , but can be purchased for an additional cost directly through the resort. You must contact the resort directly for pricing.
ccsusan1
70 usd
SGarcia
Unfortunately, the All-inclusive does not offer a spa treatment. The resort does offer a coupon, but it cannot be applied to any promotion deals, so in other words you have to pay the full retail price for a service in order for the coupon to be applied. Promotions were only honored if you paid cash. My husband & I paid $149 SPA Dollars each (given to us for a problem we had) This was for a 50 minute deep tissue massage, however, prior to the massage, we had a hydrotherapy circuit, we drank chlorophyll tea, ate nuts & fruits & relaxed. So it's best if you arrive at least 1 hour before your scheduled massage, so you have time to enjoy the amenities. It was definitely money well spent! If we had to pay for it ourselves, we would as the services at the spa were wonderful!
Carmen10989
Yes it cost extra, We got a couples massage. We were able to use these coupons that the hotel gives you and got the couples massage for 50 minutes each for $190. If you go, make sure to go an hour before and they will treat you to other amenities for free....worth it. Just make sure to take wear your bathing suit there to enjoy them.
wagrph
Extra and expensive at the resort. If you are willing to walk down the beach towards Puerto Morales (30-40 minutes depending on how fast you walk) there are "Azul Massage" tents set-up and they give you a heavenly massage for a great price.

Ocean Front rooms - views4 answers
We just booked a preferred club jr suite ocean front room and I requested a second floor due to issues with too many stairs. Are the views as good from the second floor, or even the ground floor?
Lighthouse
The Now Sapphire Resort is a total of 3 stories high. Since you have booked the Ocean front room category you should a view of the ocean whether you are on the ground floor or the third floor.
MeganCC
We just returned from the Now Sapphire and stayed in a preferred oceanfront room in building 6 on the second floor. We had a side oceanview. The view was very nice!
alicat23
I would say yes to that. But I will tell you that I was highly disappointed with the beach and ocean as well as others at the resort were. There was so much seaweed and the water was very dirty. I had my vision of it being pretty blue/green water and it was the complete opposite. So, for the money, if they charge more, it wouldn't be worth it to me. Also, we got a lot of bug bites in our room and it was infested with ants which we had to have them come spray for:-(
1midnight
We were booked in building 2 oceanfront on the ground floor. We wanted to move but ended up staying because they wanted to move us to building 6 which was a good walk to the main pool and restaurants. Try to get into building 2 if you can. We found it close to the main area yet quiet. The ground floor had a good view of the ocean but the palappas were in front of you. They did not however totally block the view. I would try to get the second floor in building 2 if I were you.

If a hurricane is forcast to hit your vacation destination and you have not yet traveled, you have a few options including cancelling your trip, changing the destination, and possibly other options depending on the severity of the hurricane, the policies of the resort/airline/etc. If you are already in destination when the hurricane is heading to your vacation destination, we will assist as best as possible including getting you out of the destination prior to the storm making landfall. If you would like further information or have specific questions regarding a hurricane, please feel free to contact our reservatiosn department.

Not sure of the evacuation policy, but Cheap Caribbean offers you another trip in its place because they factor in trip insurance everytime you book with them. So if your vacation is ruined, you can return at a later date without extra cost to you.

Airport transfers6 answers
How did the airport transfers work? We will be two women traveling alone and want to make sure we feel comfortable.
md
The transfer went really smooth
jaguar2005
The roundtrip airport transfer service can be added for an additional charge during the booking process. We use a reputable company in Mexico called Olympus Tours to ensure the safety of our customers.
MariaCC
Definitely have the airport or resort book your cab to make sure it is legit, safe, and not over charging.
Nykia
We had Olympus travel transfers. They were very good. We had to wait a little bit once we got to the loading area before they picked us up. Word to the wise, once you leave the customs area with all your bags, and you turn the corner, promotions people will swarm you and also make you think they they are with Olympus travel. They are not. All they are doing is trying to sell you excursions and things, they are nice, but will keep trying to sell, sell. (We fell for it). Its not necessary. Just keep walking through the doors and outside, you will then see people holding signs for different booking websites, just look for Cheapcarribbean sign and they will tell you where to go to check in for your transfer to the hotel. When you get to the hotel you will have to check in with Olympus transfer there and they will let you know your pick up time.
wagrph
We did airport transfers through cheap caribbean (olympus) and we were not hassled by anyone while walking through the airport. Just walk outside and find someone with an orange shirt and they take care of you straight away.
SunandSandVacationer
we were also 2 women traveling alone. We were met at baggage claim by a representative and directed to our transport. Everything was very easy and efficient. We checked in the next AM with the group to assure the transport back to the airport coordinated with out return flight. Everything went smoothly.

Exchange from US Currency to Pesos6 answers
Is it necessary to exchange dollars for pesos before we arrive? What types of payment are accepted in the gift shop, for excursions and at the shops in nearby towns?
lighthouse54
The official currency of Mexico is the Mexican Peso. American funds are widely accepted, though we recommend buying some pesos, especially for shopping at the local markets and tips. Currency can be exchanged at casas de cambio (exchange houses), banks, and hotels, though the latter usually have the highest rates and tack on a service fee. ATMs are readily available and accept foreign bankcards. Major credit cards are also widely accepted, however, be sure to make your credit card company aware of your travel plans to ensure funds are readily available to you.
MariaCC
In Cancun most shops take US dollars as currency HOWEVER your change will be in pesos. So I suggest getting change for large bills like $50 and $20 to small stuff $10, $5, and $1. This way you have the exact amount. Do this before getting to Mexico as it will be harder to get US change there. This was my mistake. Hope this helps.
oreoday99
12.50 pesos per US Dollar
ElizabethA
Nope, keep your US $. Bring $1's and $5's. I have to say there was no sign saying tips preferred, they were very laid back but certainly appreciated something like anyone else would. The service was terrific.
32carter
Currently, it is 12 pesos per $1 USD

Dress Code6 answers
How strict are the requirements that men need to wear long pants to dinner? Are golf shirts acceptable for men at dinner or do they need to wear button down shirts? Also, are dressier sandals that are a thong type (similar to flip flops) acceptable for women? I've had recent foot surgery and can't really wear dressy shoes just yet.
lighthouse54
The dress code at the specialty restaurants permit sneakers, tennis shoes or sandals and dress shirts with short sleeves. Long pants or nice Bermudas are required for men as sleeveless shirts or flip-flops are not permitted.
MariaCC
it wasn't strict at all, I wore sandals to all the restaurants. My husband would usually wear pants (not jeans though) and a t-shirt. You might want to wear a shirt to the French restaurant.
juste82
You have to only wear dress pants for the fancier restaurants and you cannot wear sandals there. But every where else, you can dress very casually.
Nykia
Our first night we wore shorts to the Mexican restaurant and nobody said anything. I wore pants and my fiance wore a skirt and dress on the other nights. I also wore just polo shirts. I wore regular dress shoes, but did see some men wearing nice sandals (not flip flops). Enjoy, we had a great time!
wagrph
I did not experience a strict dress code. I saw men wearing shorts and golf shirts to dinner at the restaurants. I wore dressy flip-flops most nights.
logansmimi
Golf shirts are fine. Nice shorts, jeans and slacks. Flip flops for breakfast and lunch.Sandles, fancy flip flops or shoes for dinner

I have already booked our vacation at Now Sapphire, how do I go about upgrading to Preferred Club and how much would it cost for 2 people- 6 nights?5 answers
7 months ago
New York
You will need to call our exisiting reservations line at 1-800-915-2322 in order to upgrade your room at the Now Sapphire to the Preferred Club. Since pricing is not guaranteed until the time of the change, the assisting agent will also be able to give you the most accurate pricing for the change.
KateHCC
Hi, my husband and I stayed there a week ago so I think I can answer that. We were offered the upgrade for $70 a night and that gives you access to an internet room, a private adult-only pool and canopy beds by the pool. Enjoy your stay!
juste82
It is well worth it if going only adults. The Concierge service is fantastic, they reserve for you the bali beds at the pool and the chairs at the beach. The room location is usually oceanfront and close to the pool. Worth it!
Regarding price is hard to tell, you might want to catch a promotion where there is a free upgrade.
ElizabethA
Upgrade through Cheap Carribean as they tell you it's $80pp per night to do it when you are there. That said, I'm not sure it's worth it. You get a private lounge but it's pretty empty; you can have beach chairs reserved for you which is nice but you'll likely also find that yourself; you get access to the adult only pool which is extremely quiet. The rooms are identical. We were upgraded half way through our trip and the only difference in the room were mats next to the bed.
Traveler29
I can't answer your question but I just wanted to let you know that I just returned from Now Sapphire with the preferred club upgrade and I did not think it was worth the extra money.
Jen120578
They upgraded us for free when we checked in. All you have to do is ask.

Are there seashells on the beach for seashell hunters?7 answers
7 months ago
quietone
There sometimes can be seashells on the beach, however, it does depend on the current conditions of the water, including the tide, recent weather conditions, etc.
MariaCC
Not at this beach. The sand is very smooth with no shells of any kind. Also once in the water you may end up stepping on the few rocks. The beach was remade by hand after Hurricane Wilma destroyed most of the beaches in cancun. So no shells. Sorry
oreoday99
We did not see any seashells at all on the beach,
lighthouse54
didn't see any.

Beach was combed for seaweed each morning. Never saw any seashells on the beach in front of the resort. Walking down the beach to stretches that were not in front of resorts turned up a few small shells and pieces of coral.

We did not snorkel at Now Sapphire. We booked a snorkel trip through Olympus Tours. It was awesome! They take you about 20 miles down the coast and you go out on a catamaran with a few local guides. They did a wonderful job and even played a little Jimmy Buffet music on the way back from the reef.
Skyhawk61x
The seaweed is not bad, they machine rake the beaches 2-3 times a day. 5 of the 6 of us went snorleling it was fun. The reef off shore is the second largest reef in the world. My son went suba diving and really enjoyed it.

Do we have to make reservation for some restaurants? Is there any restriction, in terms of reservation?6 answers
5 months ago
npasilv
They do not take reservations at any of the restaurants. You simply walk to the door and they will give you a timer, if there is a wait to get a table. You can spend the waiting time at the Lounge Bar getting a cocktail and meeting a few people or just relaxing on the couches. They are strict with the dress code though (if it says formal, men must be wearing long pants).
HoneymoonersKJ
Reservations are not required for dinner a the 6 restaurants on property! However there is an extra charge for private dinners and advance reservations are required.
KellyCC
We did not have to make any reservations, however, for certain restaurants, there may be a wait. They give you a little coaster flasher to carry with you to let you know when your table is ready.
Skyhawk61x
No u do not have to do reservation in no restaurant , just walk in and give your room number that all..
Lourdes12
Not at all, Sometimes there is a Wait, usually because everyone is going to Dinner at the same time. We went a little later to avoid the lines. They are very good at telling you the length of your wait, and you receive a buzzer. The Blue Ocean Grill has FANTASTIC Steaks!
Enjoy!
MIssyland7
They have a terrific system, no reservations. They have 4-6 restaurants to choose from along with their nightly buffet. We eat at 4 of the 6 restaurants and had a short wait but with a drink in your hand a gentle breeze who cares, relax and enjoy.
A friend of mine came back from another resort and they had to make reservations and they found out some were booked for days, no fun.

We brought a huge insulated mug and they never had a problem filling it up for us. We also thought our drinks were not very strong and if you ask them to make them strong they definetly will.

Is the no reservation system efficient for parties of 6?2 answers
I am planning on travelling the week of August 19th with a family of 6. I am considering the Now Jade or Sapphire OR the RIU Palace. Does anybody have an opinion on the no reservation vs reservation system in the restuarants?
Dallas
I had just answered your query on the Riu's page, but for the sake of consistency, here it is:
Some of our clients like the freedom of not having to make a dinner reservation the morning of; with a party of 6 you would have to be one of the first in line to guarantee seating. On the other hand, resorts which do not have a reservation policy, allow for more flexibility in dining (but we cannot guarantee that a party of 6 will not be asked to wait for the next table--same with parties of lesser numbers). It's certainly a client preference and we recommend asking the opinions of those you are traveling with.
LaurenCC
Plan ahead! You can leave your room number and name, so plan on stopping an hour ahead to check in. We traveled with 5, so the wait is a little longer, but they do seem to work things out for larger groups. It all depends on how many rooms are booked. We traveled during spring break and did not have excessive waits until the last 2 days where you could tell the hotel occupancy spiked. There are plenty of restaurants, so plan ahead on which one you want on which night. Plan on stopping by, leaving your name and having a cocktail or two as you watch the ocean or shop with the merchants. Enjoy!

Some resturants have dress code such as men must wear pants/no shorts, but there are a few different restuarants, and one (good one with a large variety of good food) that doesn't have any requirements (other than some kind of shirt and shoes).
There was the buffett (good), a french resturant, and a a chinese resturant.
