Awesome Get Away Vacation
We stayed 4 days/3nights as a get away trip for our 8 year wedding aniversary. A short trip, leaving our 2 little girls at home with Grandma and Grandpa. It was all we could have hoped - beautiful, relaxing, great service, and great food. It was our first time dong an all inclusive trip and its our new preferred way to travel. The resort is beautiful - the pools, beach, grounds, and restaurant were all actualy more beautiful than the pictures. Snorkeling off the beach was decent and made for a fun couple of hours. The only negatives were the long drive to the resort from Santo Domingo, our room A/C could have been colder, the pool not being open during the night, and night life was limited to basically the restaurants/bars and the tinest casiono ever. These were minor issues compared to how great the resort was and we enjoyed our nights at the restaurants and bars. Food at the restaurants was excellent - lamb chops, surf and turf, and excellent steak and pasta for our three dinners; lunch was great sandwiches or hot dogs, pizza, and hamburgers on the beach; breakfast buffet was one of the best we have been to. We look forward to a chance to go back and hopefully bring the kids next time. We would definitely recommend it.
We went at the beginning of May and often had pools to ourself with the exception of a few other swimmers. Yay! We experienced long wait times at some (not all) of the restaurants in the evening. We were seated but waited long for our food. Seeing that we had no plans except to RELAX, this wasn't really a problem at all for us but something to consider.
Overall, we had an AMAZING time and wished we could have stayed and relaxed longer than just the 4 days we were there! We spent about 90% of the time in the water somewhere. :)
Pros:
-Beautiful grounds & nice big comfy room with patio or balcony
-Nice Beach (if you're like me and hate walking on sea weed and rocks when you're swimming in the ocean-this beach is for you-it's beautiful and sandy)
-Beautiful swimming pools
-$25 for 25 hours of wifi use most places on resort grounds including the beach
-FRIENDLY and helpful staff (huge plus)
-excursion options available at the last minute (we did the Reef Explorer in Punta Cana and Saona and Catalina Island tour on speed boat and catamaran). The island tour via speed boat and catamaran was DEFINITELY worth the $70 for all day.
-Portofino and Bordeaux were our favorite dining options of the ones we were able to try.
Cons:
-Buffet food was not impressive
-long wait at some of the resort restaurants for sometimes just so-so food.
-resort pools and jacuzzi close early at 6:00 and 8:00pm.
Neutral:
-take $20 for deposit to use snorkel equipment. You get it back upon returning gear.
THIS WAS OUR FIRST TIME BOOKING WITH CHEAP CARIBBEAN AND WERE KIND OF HESITANT BC WE DIDN'T KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT BUT HONESTLY THEY WERE THE BEST! WE MISSED OUR FLIGHT TO THE DOMINICAN AND CHEAP CARIBBEAN WAS ABLE TO GET US AN ADDITIONAL NIGHT FREE! THE CAB RIDE PURCHASE WAS WORTH IT BECAUSE IT WAS AN HOUR AND A HALF AWAY FROM THE AIRPORT. DREAMS RESORT WAS AMAZING. I DON'T THINK WE EVEN GOT TO SEE THE WHOLE RESORT OR USE ALL THE AMENITIES. THE POOLS WERE AWESOME AND SO WERE THE DRINKS :) THE ONLY NEGATIVE THING I'D SAY WAS THAT THE BEACH WAS A LITTLE ON THE SMALL SIDE OTHER THAN THAT THE TRIP WAS DEFINATELY WORTH THE MONEY!!
Spent a week in Dreams, La Romana and had a fantastic time! I went with three couples and we selected to be a Preferred Guest and have access to the "Preferred Privileges". I'd absolutely do that again. I loved our private pool and beach area! The food for the entire week was great! A super variety of restaurants with many food options available. Great service! My favorite phrase that I heard over and over by the staff was "It's a Pleasure!". Loved the fabulous attitude! The drive from Santo Domingo airport was rather long, but Dreams had personnel there before we arrived to make our transition comfortable. Being greeted with a glass of champagne started the week off right! I will absolutely come again! I have been to Hawaii many times, and found this to be a vacation that is very comparable. This resort exceeded my expectations!

I would definitly recomend this property! We had a lay over out of Miami, but it was short and well worth it, as it broke up the travel. If possible I would look at airfare to La Romana as the airport is closer to the property... about 10-15 minutes... vs. Santo Domingo, which is 1 1/2 hours away. We booked our air/hotel/airport transfer all at once via cheapcarribean. We looked at other air options outside of the packages, and cheap caribbean really did have the best options.

Heather
Dreams La Romana offeres International restaurants and lounges serving gourmet fare and unlimited premium brand alcoholic beverages.
MeganCC
yes and it's really quality staff, most of them imported not domestic
Friend
Yes it does include unlimited alcoholic beverages.
ckmk
The all inclusive does include alcohol beverages from daily specialty "Island drinks" both alcohol and without for children or adults who prefer no alcohol. Liquor choices included "top shelf" options, and we were very impressed with the selections.. we were drinking Absolute and tonic. Bars were opened at 9am .
ANPC
Yes. The all inclusive provides all drinks, water, soft drinks, wine, mixed drinks and anything else you can drink.
travelone
Yes - however bottles of wine are not included. But glasses of wine are, along with beer and any mixed drinks
MrsGreen
yes...all food and alcoholic beverages are included! Dreams resort even included champagne at the bars, which I had never seen before at an all inclusive.
webs2
Yes, and they have Absolut, Stoli, Bacardi, Jack, etc. Plenty of beer, but mainly Presidente.
BigBM
Yes. All inclusive usually means that food and drinks (even alcoholic drinks) are included.
travelgrandpa
Hi Heather. In case nobody has answered your question yet (I see its been almost 2 months) the answer is yes. We just got back and it is a great place that I would highly recommend. But anytime you read "all inclusive" it means alcolhol as well. At least that has been my experience. And it wasn't limited to certain types of alcohol, they had it all.
DrBuddha
Yes it does include alcoholic beverages. As much and as many as you wanted

What are some of the better resorts that offer a water park and pool area for children 4 & 6 years old?1 answer
1 year, 16 months ago
Andy
There are a few resorts that feature a water park right on property. The El Conquistador in San Juan has the Coqui water park on site, however that is at an additional cost. The Sunset Beach Resort in Montego Bay, Jamaica has a water park that is included in the all-inclusive package for the resort. The Sunset Jamaica Grande in Ocho Rios features a large, Lighthouse Waterslide. There are many other places that offer great kid's clubs and activities as well.

What is the minimum age for kids' club and what times do they operate?4 answers
1 year, 15 months ago
lonster
The Explorer's Club for Kids is for children ages 3-12. The hours of operation can vary according to the time of year and occupancy levels, so it is best to check with the front desk at check in for the hours of operation during your stay.
KristinCC
I believe that the minimum age for the Explorer's Club (for kids) is 3 and can go up to 11. The run from 9AM to 5PM. They have other activities for the kids throughout the day, but I believe that is the times.
They also have the teenagersw core zone, for kids 13+, where thye have various activities and video game consoles.
We did not bring any children on this trip so, I did not participate in this aspect of the resort, but a program is given out on a daily basis with activities. Hope this was helpful.
LiznBobby
3 until 12 years old - 9 AM to 9:30 PM with one night camping overnight on the beach. Also have a teen area ages 13 to 17.
PrincessVahine
they take ages 3 and up. my kids loved it despite my wife's apprehension to leave the kids there. we did it in small doses and the ladies working there were very friendly.

How do you get from the airport to the hotel?8 answers

Round trip airport transfers are available for purchase from Cheap Caribbean or you can get a taxi from the airport.
ccsusan1
We took the shuttle offered through cheapcarribean.com. It wasn't as long as I had anticipated and was quite an adventure..not a bad thing :)
DTowner
We booked a private transport from the airport to the resort. We booked it through Cheap Caribbean and it couldn't of been easier. I did e-mail the transport company 2 days before the trip just to make sure everything was all set and they got back to me via e-mail in a timely manner with helpful information. The company we used was Olympic tours.
lovevacation79
You have to pay extra for the service that cheap Caribbean offers you upon checkout.
Lmp9
2-3 hour car ride. 10 people stuffed into an 8 sitter. Had to tip one guy for just lifting luggage into car.
OMass
We book transportation through CheapCaribean.
stacyandbrandon
I booked hotel transfer through the webiste... HOWEVER they will pick you up 5 hours before you have to leave. You miss out on your trip time that way. You're better off paying extra for a taxi from the airport and the hotel. Try to fly into La Romana airport if you can. Flying into Santo Domingo is literally 2 hours away.
DRLOVER2
depends on the airport. if you do google directions, pay close attention to the landmarks as there are many detours and poorly marked turns. Take a shuttle! rental cars are way overpriced there.

The resort offers a different show every night which appeals to all ages. Additionally they have a full schedule of activities offered daily to keep guests entertained.
ccsusan1
The entertainment is vast because they have live music in the lobby at night and at the convention center. The have beach activities and pool activities throughout the day. After midnight things slow down and I believe the bar closes at 2am.
Anonymous
extremely silly... don't waste your time watching those shows
traveler8888
Sucks ... don't waste your time. Stay in Punta Cana. The clubs outside the resort are 2 hours away.
DRLOVER2
Great! they has shows every night, and even a circus one of the nights, they are very talented!
Anonymous
There is a variety type show every night; and there are planned activities all day long at the beach and by the pool for those who wish to participate. In addition to the variety show each evening there are also movies on the beach and by the pool each night. As well as "couples only" events late in the evening by the beach.

How do you get from the Santo Domingo airport to La Romana?10 answers
Is there are a resort shuttle running from Santo Domingo to La Romana?
Antonio
The Dreams La Romana Resort & Spa does not provide shuttle service as part of their all inclusive package; however CheapCaribbean.com does contract with an outside vendor to provide these services for an additional cost. You can choose this optional extra during the booking process, or you can contact us at 1800-915-2322 for assistance.
MellissaCC
The hotel itself does not offer a shuttle service.
We booked round trip airport transportation from a place called Dominican Airport Transfer.
The ride is approximately 90 minutes from SDQ to the resort, but the sightseeing and way of living will distract you from the ride.
Our shuttle was a private van, that was very prompt and vehicles very clean.
sunshinecd1
We encountered this same problem. You have to book it in advance. We used Olympus Tours and that was the cheapest option we found. $125 for both my boyfriend and I... total round trip. Other options were $150/person per one way. Highly recommend Olympus. You share a small bus with 3-4 couples...but they are nice vehicles with plenty of room.
realestatecandy
If you are booking through Cheap Carribean, reserve the shuttle through them!! The ride takes about 2 hours from the airport and trust me, as soon as you exit the airport, there should be someone in bright orange who will guide you to the bus to take to the resort.
Steveosupremo
Taking a taxi from the airport to La Romana is about $100.00
There is a shuttle service that runs 3x per day which is around $30-$40.
We took a hire car, but its a pretty long drive.
xathras
we used a shuttle arranged by Cheap Caribbean
holmestwins
Private cab is best through CC. BUT it takes almost two hours!
PrincessVahine
you can buy a shuttle service through cheapcarribean, but keep in mind they will take many people and they stop and many resorts along the way. it took us almost 2 1/2 hours to get the resort. i suggest buying a car service on a seperate website, google car service from Santo Domingo Airport to La Romana.
Anonymous
Olympus tours picked us up in a van.
Patri
do yourself a favor and take the shuttle. We rented a car, got lost in a bad part of La Romana, and had a terrible first day as a result, in addition to paying double than we would have if we had just taken the shuttle. there are 2-3 detours along the way and the turns are very poorly marked. Go with the shuttle for sure!

Can you see any shells or marine life when snorkling right off the beech?8 answers

you are able to see ample aquatic life and reefs while snorkeling
holmestwins
Absolutely!!!! You can find shells past the Seaside Grille near the gazebo where they perform weddings. Tons of them.
PrincessVahine
Yes we did while kayaking.
Patri
yes, great snorkeling just past the pier. Go in the morning when the waves are small and the visibility is best. Even got the kids out there for a bit.
JakeJ
Yes! We saw lots of different types of fish and other marine life. Didn't see too many shells.
SunburedTexan
There is little marine life while swimming on site at the beach but there definitely is SOME. If you're brave enough to go further out (still within the bounds of allowed swimming past the buoys) there is more.

The resort may be the best to ask because Cheap Caribbean does not work with vendor who offer these activities in La Romana. The Dreams can be reached at info.drelr@dreamsresorts.com or (809) 221-8880 (International number). Since we are unable to recommend a vendor for these activities, we strongly recommend that our clients do their research on the company they are booking the tours through.

Are there separate areas for adults who do not have kids?6 answers
1 month ago
Mandiiiiii
This resort is a family friendly property. There is no specific adults only area on property, however children are not allowed in the night club as well as the bars.
CaitlinCC
The resort separates by "building" and tries to place families with children in select buildings. They also offer a kids/teen area which is chock full of activities for kids.
With that being said, I did not see any place for "adults only".
SBCC
I would recommend booking on the Preferred side. It was the higher end more private side and there weren't alot of kids there. There are also "romantic" spots throughout the property for romantic dinners, private beach areas, etc. Whether you prefer to travel as a couple who likes to escape or find the party, this place was fantastic.
Cydney
There is a preferred club section however this is a family friendly resort so not sure if you can get aways from kids.

Dreams La Romana Resort and Spa is located on the southeastern coast of the Dominican Republic, in the La Romana area of Bayahibe.
