A Rocky Start with a Four-Star Finish
Our stay at Sunscape was a bit of a rollercoaster, beginning with a disappointing first room. Though we booked a deluxe king ocean view, the room we were given was cramped with only a partial view, broken dresser drawers, and a fridge that wasn't cold. To make matters worse, we had no hot water and a severely clogged shower drain. After a day at the beautiful beach, we returned to 3" of standing water in our shower that was still there at 5 am the next morning. Despite reporting it early, we were told the hotel was full and had to wait while we checked in repeatedly with the front desk. Since we hadn't been able to properly shower in two days, the situation was becoming very frustrating. Everything changed around 3 pm on our second day thanks to a wonderful woman, whom we believe was the head of housekeeping. She stepped in and got things moving, resulting in us being moved to a suite in the tower by 5 pm. The new room was incredible, featuring a kitchenette, a balcony, and the absolute best view of the beach. While we did notice that maintenance was still a bit hit-or-miss—a reported broken mirror light in the new room was never fixed and the lighting in both rooms was quite dim—the upgrade definitely made the earlier headaches worth it. As for the rest of the resort, the beach is the true star of the show. It is big and beautiful, though you must get up early to claim a spot or you will be stuck in the sun all day. The dining was a mixed bag; while the buffet was just okay, the food at the specialized restaurants was excellent. The staff throughout the resort were very friendly, though you should be prepared for "island time" as the pace of service is quite slow. However, the entertainment guys were awesome and kept things fun. Overall, we had an awesome stay and achieved the relaxation we were looking for. We would definitely recommend Sunscape for the beach alone, but our biggest piece of advice is to pay the extra for an upgraded room in the towers to ensure the best experience from the start.

Terrible experience— travelers beware
Feces on toilet when arrived; room smelled of sewage and mildew; furniture torn and falling apart; visible mold on ceiling. Staff extremely unhelpful, unresponsive, unfriendly. Went without flushing toilet for 24 hrs. Couldn't get daily supply if washcloths even after asking several times. Overall, the worst travel experience we’ve ever had. Will NOT return or recommend to anyone!!!

Outdated, overpriced, mediocre all-inclusive with decent staff.
There was a definite lack of communication between the different sections of the resort. For example, on day one of arrival, I requested a bottle opener. After asking for one multiple times on multiple occasions, I finally got fed up and went and sourced my own. We had asked for cushions for the metal deck chairs on at least two separate occasions and never received any. We ended up just using whatever cushions we could from inside the room. In our communications when booking about the private romantic dinner on the beach, we were told that the payment would have to be made on arrival, which is what we did. Little did we know that as SunClub guests, we were offered a $60 coupon which could have been used towards the dinner. When we found this out, we were told point blank that no money could be refunded. We were offered a bottle of wine from the wine list. We chose a Riesling to go with our surf and turn. When we went to the dinner, no bottle of wine was offered. As a matter of fact, our server made it clear that the manager of the restaurant would need to talk to the manager of the SunClub to make that happen, but the manager from the SunClub was not available. To further complicate matters, I came down with a case of food poisoning and was bedridden for the last day and a half at the resort. Housekeeping also did not refill our coffee selection on one day, and we had asked for a specific beer to be stocked in our fridge, which was never fulfilled. Overall the food was...ok. It was about what I would have expected from a three-star resort. The buffet offerings were fairly good, and varied. The Japanese Teppanyaki table was entertaining and the food was decent. The Italian restaurant was mid at best. Oceana was disappointing. The Bluewater Grill was probably the best of the options available. I don't know what extra value the $1000USD SunClub upgrade ACTUALLY got us, beyond a nicer room. At no point did anyone ask us to show our card to access the SunClub area. There was no one checking to see if the people in the "exclusive" area were ACTUALLY Sun Club members. There was no one making sure the general public didn't wander up on to the beach and take a beach chair. The "exclusive" area coffee maker didn't work the entire time we were at the resort, even though everyone I spoke to had called in a complaint about it. I will admit that the room upgrade was about the only good thing that spending all that extra money got us, in my opinion. Either things weren't explained to us in great enough detail, or there wasn't actually any significant other benefit to this "upgrade".

Amazing resort location!
The resort was amazing, could use improvement in the food quality and service. The food in the buffet was just okay. The bar service was very slow.
