From my well-handled reservations with Joanna Quiqley to our entire trip, it was great. Olympus Tours responsible for our transfers in Cancun/Playa del Carmen was very professional & friendly.
The only problem we had was that our hotel, Wynham Maya was the last of the 4 hotels. . So instead of 40 min to the Hotel, we had to endure addtional 40 minutes on stretches of bumpy & unpaved roads to the other 3 hotels. My friend became ill because of the bad roads.
The hotel check-in was most courteous and friendly. Our request for rooms near the beach was graciously given to us (2 rooms).
We appreciate very much the room amenities of coffee/tea maker, hair dryer, refrigerator and a new safe. The activity staff were very upbeat and friendly. The food at the Mexican and the Med restaurants were moderate. We ordered seafood and they tasted frozen and salty.
The quality and choice at the buffet restaurant are adequate. The dining staff were very friendly, happy and always ready to please us.
Thanks so much for the enjoyable vacation. You will hear from us again. Have been sending your website to my travelling friend & family.

Good deal for the money
We stayed at the Viva Wyndham Maya June26-July3, 2011 with two adults and two teenagers. The rooms were really small and they had no dressers for clothing other than two shelves near the door so most of the time we left the clothing in luggage. The food was average with some days offering a better selection than others. Our room was right at the beach which was nice because we were so close to the ocean, the pool, the food and the nightly shows. The coffee is terrible and if you like cream in your coffee they only offer milk but luckly Starbucks was right accross the street from the resort. $$$
The weather was unpredictable due to storms passing through the week we were there so most of the water sports were closed due to high winds which created a safety issue. You need to sign up for these activities to insure you get a time or you will miss out.
We did not try any resturants because you needed to make reservations and everyone I talked to said the food was just average. I would suggest making your reservations soon after you arrive in order to guarantee an opening. The spa was nice and the prices were really good, especially with the discount cheap caribbean had offered through the resort so we did take advantage of it.
I would recommand taking skin so soft (which worked really well) or some other type of insect repellent for the evening because the insects love to bite.
Overall it was a nice place to visit with beautiful beaches. If your looking for a 5 star resort this is not the place for you but it was relaxing and enjoyable. I would have liked more Mexican style music but there was very little of that other than once or twice a day when the staff came out to teach a dance step. The staff was very friendly, the rooms were clean, the beds very comfortable, the AC worked well, the place felt safe and for $7/US you could take the taxi to 5th ave. for shopping which was also safe. I would go back again if I needed too however, I like to try different places each time I travel. It was a good bargain for the money and a nice place if your taking kids.
If you decide to take the ferry to Cozomel I would suggest buying a one way ticket and on the return trip buy another one way ticket. This way your not locked into a specific time when you need to return. A one way ticket allows you to return when your ready to return.

Good value and excellent service
We spend six days at Wyndham Maya in June 2011 and absolutely loved the experience. I was unsure at the beginning what to expect, and was a little disappointed at first when I first saw the rooms that were very basic. But excellent service and friendliness of staff, plethora of activities, and amazing beach fully compensated for it small disappointment as we barely spent any time there. Room service was excellent and rooms were sparkling clean at all times.
Food options were good, many to choose from. The only thing is that a couple times I found that fruits in the fruit buffet were not really fresh and I brought it to restaurant's management attention. Just be careful about what you eat and pack all your medicine with you: local drugstore charges a fortune for your most basic meds.
I would not hesitate to come back to Viva Wyndham Maya again!
We booked our trip at the Viva Wyndham Maya, but when we arrived at the Maya, we were told that they were full and we were being moved to the Viva Azteca that was just a short distance up the beach. We were told that this was good because it was a 5 star resort and the Maya was a 3 star resort. When we arrived, the Azteca looked nice, but we could tell no difference between the two resorts except that the Azteca was much smaller and offered fewer specialty restaurants and activities. And someone there told us that it was a 4 star, not a 5 star resort.
My review is mixed, due mainly to the rooms.
We were travelling with seven family members and had three rooms. There were issues with the beds in all three rooms. They were very uncomfortable because they were much too firm. The matresses sit on cement frames with wood slats, and have no pillowtop cushioning, all of which makes them very hard and very low to the floor. The pillows were also small and hard and I felt like I was sleeping on a rock covered in a thin layer of foam. Other than that the rooms were cool and housekeeping kept them nicely cleaned. There are no dressers, just a few shelves in the closet.
There were mini-fridges in our rooms that only kept their contents a few degrees below the room temperature. One of them did not work at all and had to be replaced.
The beach was quite nice and the watersports were fun. There is only one pool. In all of our 8 trips to Mexico, I've never swam in a hot pool, but by noon each day the Azteca pool was HOT. There was nothing refreshing about it.
The staff was great, no complaints there. The buffet food was good and reliable. The food in the only specialty restaurant (Italian) that we were able to get seating in was not very good. No one in our group liked it. The buffet was better. The pizza at the snack bar was really good.
Overall, it was a pretty good value, but they need to do much better with the beds.

Hotel Description
Viva Wyndham Maya in Playa del Carmen: Your Inner Island Child Awaits
When playtime calls you south of the border, head to Viva Wyndham Maya in Playa del Carmen, where this awesome resort keeps you playing all day and partying all night at an amazing all inclusive price.
Viva Wyndham Maya sits on a beautiful, Mexican, alabaster-sand beach, where the blue stretches so far it's hard to tell where the water ends and the sky begins. The oceanfront pool, with a bubbling Jacuzzi and a swim-up bar, is magnetizing as well. Your kids will love having their own children's pool nearby. Viva Wyndham Maya doesn't make you play alone, offering organized beach games or water polo. Sailing and windsurfing lessons will challenge the land-lubber in you. If your interest involves deeper water, check out the PADI-certified Viva Wyndham Diving Center where, for an additional fee, dive pros can take you to the Maya Reef, the second longest barrier reef in the world. Here a colorful world of creatures are just waiting for you and your underwater camera.
Are you one of those stressed-out souls needing a little more than warm sun and cool water to untie your knots? Then the Renova Spa with its sauna and steam bath is just the thing. If you really want to make your vacation memorable, go to the spa's beach cottage, where you can get a Mayan tattoo or Caribbean braids. And what's more romantic than a Couples Moonlight Massage?
After you've built up an appetite with all these activities, you can choose from six restaurants to satisfy your hunger. Portofino offers Mediterranean dinners, while Hacienda Don Diego is the place to get authentic Mexican fare. The all inclusive rate also includes dining privileges at two restaurants at Viva Wyndham Maya's sister property, Viva Wyndham Azteca.
The fun doesn't end after dinner. Nightly entertainment, themed parties and an on-site discotheque means you'll be rocking long into the evening. The resort has a covered theater that seats 600 people, so evening entertainment isn't crowded. This vacation is one your inner child will thank you for.
