An amazing time

I booked this trip never having been to Mexico. I was well taken care of at the resort! Their rooms were comfortable, cool, and bright! The food was ethnic, plentiful and yummy! The pool and beach were beautiful and welcoming! I had an unbelievable time and encountered no issues! I would recommend this resort and location to anyone!

Second time but won't be a third

This was my second trip here. After visiting other all inclusive resorts I have to say this resort is average at best. Not all bad but not all good so I will be very honest. Check in was easy. Room was clean but had a musty smell that got worse during the night. We asked for a king room for our anniversary but didn't get lucky enough to have one, although I saw a man bully a rep into changing his room to a king with a better view. Guess it doesn't pay to be nice but I'm not going to complain for 2 days for a switch when I'm just trying to relax with my family. Thank goodness we brought room spray, but definitely should have brought pillows. Thought we had ample pillows, it was like a pile of rocks. Main dining hall was clean but I felt like I was eating in a school cafeteria. Food was not bad, but definitely not good. Mediterranean and Italian restaurants were very good. Beach had a ton of seaweed but they tried hard to clean it. There just happened to be storms this week and hard to keep up, but one of the most beautiful beaches on Riveria Maya. On a good day you can stand chest deep and see your feet. Pool was hot like a sauna. Not refreshing at all. Swim up bar is gone. Night entertainment was not as good as other places or as good as it use it be. Day entertainment was very energetic and seemed to have a great time with each other and the guests. Disco over run by children. Plyacar itself is beautiful and a 3 minute can ride to Playa Del Carmen. If you shop across the street you can barter to less than half the given price to the vendors in the carts. Prices are usually 25-50% higher than in the airport(which is already high) Very friendly staff. There was not one person who was not friendly. Not everyone is fluent in English, if this is a problem get a translator on your phone. You are the one visiting another country, can't get upset about it. Amstar reps were wonderful from the moment we walked out of the airport until the moment we walked in! Gabby was very nice and very accommodating even though we didn't use the excursion services this time. After our driver dropped us off he ran into the airport to track down a guest who left their earbuds on the van. Very honest and caring! I would return to Plyacar again but not too this resort.

Not the best resort

First time for our family to go to playa del Carmen. Hotel rooms are nothing really special. Just room with beds and tv. Food was not so great! I think this is the only vacation that we all lost weight. This resort you can only eat at a specialty resort twice with a 5 night stay. All the other days your stuck at a buffet. I was only granted 1 speciality restaurant for our stay. Unfortunately it was really really bad . I was not allowed to book my 2nd day because all the reservations at the restaurants had been taken. The snack bar that says open 24/7 is not. Sometimes it had food and other times not. The food they had was more like leftovers from all the restaurants. They had nachos but they had watered-down cheese. I guess to make it last. The night shows were very cheesy. Sometimes not kid appropriate. Overall not happy with this hotel. I would not suggest it to anyone.

So far this has been my best trip to date

The resort was amazing! The People were amazing! They always felt welcoming and polite. We had slight issue due to the weather knocking out power to our room which meant no AC for the night, but the people cant control the weather! :) The food was impeccable and so was the service. What I am about to say next might confuse some people. I am an American. I have always lived on the east coast (NY,DC,VA). I have had some good and I mean GOOD burgers, but I have never had a burger so good as the burgers in Mexico. I don't know what kinda of voodoo magic they do to make them so good. When I came home, they just weren't the same...I want to cuss in this review because they ruined my favorite food for me. I can never have one that good unless I go back. I digress. Before you get to Mexico download a currency calculator on your phone. It will help you and sometimes the vendor. Most vendors have them and calculate it for you but just to be safe you can do it your self. If you go to any of the parks like xecja or xplor or xcaret ask the hotel what you will need before you get there. Xcaret was amazing but you HAVE TO HAVE WATER SHOES AND A SPECIAL BUG SPRAY AND SUN BLOCK. Save your time and give in with the sun block and bug spray and buy it there. Yes its a bit expensive but it will save you trouble. Also one thing I didn't like was that they asked us to do there little sales pitch to become club members for the resorts rewards program. IT WAS NOT A MANDATORY THING. My wife got suckered into it. There was no real pressure to join and when we finished the presentation there were no dirty looks on the way out, but I wish my wife hadn't agreed to go. YET AGAIN IT IS NOT MANDATORY NOR WAS IT AN AGGRESSIVE CONVERSATION. That is about it for the negative. This trip was relaxing and fun. The views were amazing from our dinners. The food was amazing. The beach was clean. At night there was a guard on duty at the beach all night. We also felt safe the entire time we were there. I am seriously considering going back next year.

Hotel Description

Viva Wyndham Maya in Playa del Carmen: Your Inner Island Child Awaits

When playtime calls you south of the border, make your way to Viva Wyndham Maya in Playa del Carmen, where you'll party all night and play all day for an amazing all-inclusive price.

Viva Wyndham Maya sits on a beautiful, Mexican, alabaster-sand beach, where the blue stretches so far it's hard to tell where the water ends and the sky begins. The oceanfront pool, with a bubbling Jacuzzi is magnetizing as well. Your kids will love having their own children's pool nearby. Viva Wyndham Maya doesn't make you play alone, offering organized beach games or water polo. Sailing and windsurfing lessons will challenge the land-lubber in you. If your interest involves deeper water, check out the PADI-certified Viva Wyndham Diving Center where, for an additional fee, dive pros can take you to the Maya Reef, the second longest barrier reef in the world. Here a colorful world of creatures is just waiting for you and your underwater camera.

Are you one of those stressed-out souls needing a little more than warm sun and cool water to untie your knots? Then the Renova Spa with its sauna and steam bath is just the thing. If you really want to make your vacation memorable, go to the spa's beach cottage, where you can get a Mayan tattoo or Caribbean braids. And what's more romantic than a Couples Moonlight Massage?

After you've built up an appetite with all these activities, you can choose from six restaurants to satisfy your hunger. Portofino offers Mediterranean dinners, while Hacienda Don Diego is the place to get authentic Mexican fare. The all-inclusive rate also includes dining privileges at two restaurants at Viva Wyndham Maya's sister property, Viva Wyndham Azteca.

The fun doesn't end after dinner. Nightly entertainment, themed parties and an on-site discotheque means you'll be rocking long into the evening. The resort has a covered theater that seats 600 people, so evening entertainment isn't crowded. This vacation is definitely one for your inner child.
