The people make the difference!
We loved Villa La Estancia. One of the greatest things about this resort is the people who work there. Jesus and Angel are the best. They make sure you are being taken care of by the pool- so kind! We highly recommend this resort!

Pleasant, but will not return
We had a generally pleasant experience, but I would not return. The food was good, our room was very spacious, the staff was very friendly and eager to please. The beach and pool were both fantastic. But enough things added up to make this a '3 star' experience. -Despite being all inclusive, we had to sign a slip after each meal (it gave a chance to tip) but these 'bills' were extremely slow to appear. -People would lay out their towels and beach items on lounge chairs at the beach or pool and then disappear. (see pic) Chairs would be empty, but 'claimed' for hours. The resort has an official policy of not leaving your stuff for more than 2 hours (!) but I asked a staff member about it, and they said they never enforced it and it was up to the guests. This was *very* disappointing. Other resorts don't allow this and I would encourage La Estancia to do the same. -Getting food reservations was very difficult. You had to be an 'Elite' level member to do so. Our 'personal concierge' couldn't get us reservations. -Our personal concierge also hard pushed us to take a 90 minute tour of the property with our entire family (including small children!) to convince us to become owners. When we said that we did not come on vacation to endure that he took back our VIP card! -The TVs were not 'smart' and did not hook up to Netflix or other streaming services. -There was definitely a hierarchy for owners vs. renters. Ownders had official placards to reserve their chairs and got other special treatment. I get that as a selling point, but it sure made others feel like 2nd class guests. Again, overall our stay was pleasant, but I think some changes could be made to create a wonderful vacation experience.

First class as usual!
We stayed for 3 weeks at the end of Nov and the first 2 weeks in Dec. It was our 6th visit, and we have booked to go again!! We love the spaciousness of the suites, the beautiful beach and the attentiveness of the staff. Next year we have booked for the first 2 weeks in Dec. as we found the last week of Nov. was really busy due to the U.S Thanksgiving. La Casona had changed somewhat. The breakfast, which used to be a breakfast buffet, had only a small selection of dishes and seemed to be encouraging the use of the menu. The wait time for using the menu varied from day to day and could sometimes be about a 20 to 30-minute wait. Lenora, Yvonne and the hostess Danielle were great, as usual! We ate dinner there several evenings, and it had much improved. The food was always good, but it took forever to get your meal. This visit, there was a huge improvement, and it was always a pleasure to be waited on by Eduardo, Jose. Juan Angel and Hugo. We ate lunch at La Parrilla many times and had great service from Santana, Ricardo, Jessica and the new captain, Ricardo. At night, the restaurant changed to the Blue Grill, and we found the menu had changed and was really disappointing compared to the previous one. The beach is great, and you can always find chairs which are set up for you by Jesus and Gaby. It is a great place to stay for a relaxing vacation. If you want a little more life, you can go next door to the Villa del Palmar Flamingos.
