First trip to Barbados-- great for the price!

This was the first time to Barbados for my boyfriend and I and we were not sure what to expect. Overall, for the price that we paid for this trip compared to other resorts prices, we found the Turtle Beach was a great value for what you get. While we would not go again, because the beach wasnt that great for snorkeling, if you are looking for a small family atmosphere, this is deff the place to go :) Pros: -Small resort. There was not a lot of walking required nor did we need to take shuttle buses around the resort. This resort was VERY small so keep that in mind. Literally the pictures that you see on the internet are the entire thing. This did not bother us at all because my boyfriend has a back injury so we found the having things in close proximity was a welcome change from other larger resorts that we have stayed at in the past. -Wonderful service. I cannot say enough about the service here at Turtle Beach. The staff are wonderful in accommodating anything that you need. The watersports staff even set up your beach chairs and bring your drinks directly down to you on the beach. -The food at the restaurants was amazing. We did not choose to eat at the buffet for dinner and found that the two a la carte restaurants had amazing food and great service. We were able to enjoy lobster, steaks, lamb, and duck that was not only -Lots of things to do. There are options to take a taxi to the other resorts so that you can experience difference parts of the island and we highly recommend doing so. The water at the resort is a bit rough and super wavy so we took a taxi to Crystal Cove on the west side of the island where the water was calmer and found that snorkeling there was much better and relaxing. There were also a lot of watersports available at Turtle Beach included that I have not found at other resorts-- things like boogyboards, hobby cats, etc. Always something to do. -Turtles! We have swam with turtles in the past in places like Tulum Mx. and wanted to try it again here in Barbados. We found that there are several excursions that take you to see them depending on what you like to do-- Captain Sam from the resort even has an excursion that will take you out on Jet Skis to see them. We opted for a less adventurous glass bottom boat excursion and was not disappointed at all. The turtles come super close to the shore so instead of having to be out in the middle of the ocean you can see them where it is more comfortable. We were also able to explore a shipwreck and were absolutely amazed at all the marine life that we were able to see. One day i even saw a large sea turtle swimming right off the shore at the resort-- they are literally everywhere! So magical! Cons: -There are not american outlets in the bathrooms and there are limited plugs around the room. We ended up taking a mirror off the wall and moving it so that I was able to do my hair near an outlet but that was only a minor inconvenience. -There are not a lot of partial sea views. We were told upon arrival that we have been upgraded from a pool view to a sea view but since we were only on the 2nd floor there was a total view of the pool and only a small peep hole towards the ocean. The pool was a bit loud if you take naps or go to bed early so I would suggest that you either request an upper-floor higher than 2 or pay the extra money for the complete ocean front room. -Only two restaurants. Like I said before this resort is small so there was only two a la carte restaurants and only one is open each night. The food changes everyday so we did not have to continue to eat the same things but if you are looking for a wide variety, this is not the place for you as the food does tend to follow a particular pattern.

Great little spot

We spent a quick 5 day vacation at Turtle Beach and couldn't have been happier with our choice! The room was well appointed and close to the beach. The beach and beach service was excellent, even though the water was rough it was still fun to play in the waves. The food in the al a carte restaurants was excellent but the buffets lacked good food choices. The little ice cream shop and the coffee bar/ panini place was a great choice for lunch and desert! We especially liked the the location to be able to leave the property and walk to the gap. The staff was very friendly they even came right out when I dropped my earring down the bathroom sink, they were able to retrieve it which made me very happy! All in all a great vacation and great value.

Barbados all-inclusive falls short

Turtle Beach Resort is a nice small all-inclusive resort that falls short on their dining options and service. There are only 3 restaurants to choose from, one being the buffet, which serves the usual breakfast and dinner fare. The other 2 restaurants, Asiago’s (Authentic Italian) and Waterfront were considered fine dining but there was nothing fine about them. The service was extremely slow, 1 1/2 hours with the dining rooms barely full, and the food quality and presentation were lackluster. The portions were not generous either. We actually walked out of the Waterfront on night 4 with some other families because we couldn't get our dinner served after waiting 1 hour and 15 minutes! Dinner starts at 7:00 at all the restaurants and people are hungry! The alcohol served at the resort is 2nd shelf and there is only one wine option. The rest of the resort looks like the pictures, however the resort and pools are small. There is no water, soda or beer stocked in your room. The elevator was not working week we were there and we were on the 4th floor. The red flag was up for swimming the whole week we were there too. Not sure if this is normal for this area. We swam at Sandals next door. All the beaches in Barbados are public and Sandals has breakwaters to calm the rough seas. Yellow flags over there. If management can get the service and food quality under control the resort would get a much better rating. It has the potential to be much better. We did get the chance to visit a sister resort, Crystal Cove, and that was great! They should train the staff at Turtle Cove.

For Families Only

My wife and I stayed at the Turtle Beach Resort for 5 days. We knew it was a kid friendly resort when we booked but we didn't think there would be as many kids as there was. We have 3 kids of our own but left them at home so we could have some adult time. If you are looking for a resort with not a lot of kids this is not the place for you. 90% of guest had kids. There really wasn't a lot of things for kids to do so it confused us why there were so many kids. There is no bar to just go sit and have a few drinks. Staff was not rude but there were not pleasant at all (no smiles). Rooms were good and the beach was beautiful. We spent most of our time at the beach because the pools were packed with kids. They have security guards on most of the time but they do absolutely nothing. We were bothered frequently from locals about buying items while on the resort's property and the security did nothing to stop it (just watched). The locals were friendly but persistent. It still was a great deal for what we got and we are glad we went.

What's to Love

The easy walk to St. Lawrence Gap is one of our favorite features of Turtle Beach Hotel. Barbados nightlife is just a hop, skip and a jump away.

What We'd Change

The dress code at Asiagos might be a little too fancy for the more casual traveler. Just be sure to pack some shoes other than flip-flops.

Why You Should Go

If you can, make your trip during turtle-nesting season, April to November. It's an amazing chance to see endangered sea life.

Hotel Description

Turtle Beach Resort: Enjoy A Premium Barbados Hotel with Ocean Wildlife on the Side

The stretch of Barbados' South Coast that is home to Turtle Beach Resort isn't called "Turtle Beach" for nothin'. It's actually a sea-turtle nesting ground from April through November, and lucky December visitors just might catch a glimpse of a hatchling as it scrambles toward the sea.

The wildlife, though, is only the first draw of Turtle Beach Resort in Barbados. All inclusive packages feature the hotel's three restaurants, two freshwater swimming pools and a boat-load of water sports. Try your hand at windsurfing, or watch for tropical fish from a kayak or canoe. When you're ready to explore the surrounding town of Dover, make the three-minute walk to St. Lawrence Gap, or "The Gap" as locals like to call it, a hub of shops and vibrant nightlife.

An island vibe in a natural setting awaits you at Turtle Beach Resort. Barbados' South Coast beach seems laid out just for your viewing pleasure from the private balcony of your artfully decorated room. When you arrive at the hotel, the open-air lobby welcomes you with fresh ocean breezes and a laid-back atmosphere. Each of the rooms is a suite, providing you with all the creature comforts of home. But you're not at home, you're on a Caribbean vacation, complete with beach-concierge service bringing you fresh fruit and afternoon tea. And when it's time for dinner, sample fine dining at Asiagos, the highest-rated Italian restaurant in all of Barbados.

Bringing a handful of kids along? Turtle Beach Resort's Flying Fish Kids' Club is the perfect place for them to hang out and play beach cricket, table tennis and Nintendo Wii. Even "too-cool-for-school" teenagers like the foosball setup and pool table. And with the crackle of Caribbean energy in the air, those who join in the Kids' Club's educational and cultural activities will be too absorbed by their island surroundings to even realize they are learning. Meanwhile, it's playtime for the grownups as they relax in the whirlpool or embark on a rum distillery tour.

This hotel is All-Inclusive.

  • Non-motorized watersports
