We'll be back =)

The resort was beautiful- we would definitely come back here again for its Spanish Colonial vibe and great service. Everyone on the waitstaff was personable and very helpful overall. We stayed in the Premium Beach Front Junior Suite just beside the main pool with the swim up bar. At first concerned that the pool crowd noise was going to be over the top- but it was never a problem. The room was comfortable and spacious, well appointed and cared for daily by housekeeping. It was also steps from the sand beach which was well groomed every morning. Fresh beach towels and sunblock lotions are always at hand by the beach and pool. Room service was great for leisurely continental breakfast- this was probably my favorite dining experience as we could have our coffee overlooking the beach from our furnished patio. The best evening dining we had was at The Steakhouse Restaurant in Sanctuary Town- the ribeye was tender and flavorful. The most unfortunate dinner was at the Wok Restaurant at the Teppanyaki table. The beef served was inedible- overcooked, chewy and bland. The rest of the meal wasn't much better. The best tasting food and presentation was at Fusion in Sanctuary Town... but the orchestrated show to blaring music with choreographed chefs and waitstaff was really cheesy. Too bad since the 5 course cuisine was delicious. Even though the hotel was 90% occupied while we were there in late April, early May- the resort never felt overcrowded. You definitely need to stake your spot early at the pool, but there's always space at the beach and a lot of umbrella coverage if you want it. And even though we had a lot of rain, it cleared up throughout the day so that we didn't feel deprived of getting in good sun time. Even when it was raining, it was quite breathtaking- we hung out on the thatched roof pier and watched the squalls pass by.

We'll be back =)

Relaxing Vacation at Picture Perfect Resort

This was our first trip to Punta Cana and our first stay at an all inclusive resort. When we arrived at the resort we were greeted by very friendly, well-spoken staff who immediately offered us drinks while we checked in. We stayed in the Castle and check-in was easy. Our room was not ready upon arrival. However, we were able to go to the buffet and eat lunch while we waited and our room was upgraded to a beach-front view for the inconvenience. When we arrived in our new room the toilet was not working properly. They sent somebody to fix it within 10 minutes and sent us a bucket of beer on ice for our troubles. The room itself was beautiful and clean. They come twice a day to clean the room, make the bed, restock the fridge, and do a turn-down service. When they do the turn-down service they leave a paper on the bed that includes all the activities for the next day, what restaurants will be open, and what the drink of the day will be. The pictures are an accurate representation of the resort, which was clean and absolutely stunning. The beaches and pools were gorgeous and easily accessible. The resort was small enough where everything was only a short walk away, but large enough where the pool areas, beach, and restaurants never felt crowded. During the day Casa Bella (the buffet) is pretty much the only option for breakfast and lunch. However, every day they offered different food options and everything made there was of a high quality. Of the remaining four restaurants, two (Capriccio and The Wok) were excellent. We were extremely disappointed by the Blue Marlin and The Steakhouse. The seafood was NOT fresh, which is very disappointing when you are sitting at a table that is on stilts on the water. We both got sick from our dinner at The Steakhouse, and the next day also heard another couple talking about how they had been sick all day and had eaten at The Steakhouse the night before. Another complaint we have about the restaurants is the dress code. On CheapCaribbean.com it says there is NO dress code. When we got there, we were told that men needed to wear PANTS at two of the five restaurants, and also others in Sanctuary Town. Jeans were allowed, but when it is almost 90 degrees and humid, jeans aren't the most comfortable option. There is a small area called Sanctuary Town, which is also open to the public. There are several restaurants here that are included, and three that are not. We found the food quality and taste to be much better in Sanctuary Town. However, they open at 6:30pm for dinner only. We ordered room service one afternoon but found that they had attempted to Americanize their menu and nothing was any good. We would have preferred some more local dishes that are of a higher quality and they are more familiar preparing. Every night there was a different form of entertainment. The first day we were greeted by J.Z., the head entertainment coordinator. He worked very hard every day to coordinate activities at the beach and pool during the day and shows at night. The shows were all comprised of local entertainers and they were all very good. The bartenders at the pool and beach were excellent and a different "drink of the day" was offered every day. The butlers and staff around the resort were phenomenal. They were extremely friendly, willing to quickly help with anything we needed, and answer any questions. Overall, the beauty of the resort and the friendly staff would make us choose this resort again if we go back to Punta Cana. However, if we do, we will stick to Casa Bella and Sanctuary Town for food.

Off to a slow start

My boyfriend and I recently stayed here. This was our 4th all-inclusive vacation in the Caribbean in the last 2 years. While the grounds were beautiful and the food was the best of any of the resorts, we had a few disappointments. There was no fanfare upon getting there. No one came out greeting us with drinks. We were immediately sent to the registration desk and told that we had a ground floor room in the main building. Our reason for choosing Sanctuary was the castle. We booked an ocean view room in the castle. We were told that we could "upgrade" to that for more money of course. On principle alone, we refused but waited for a room on a higher level was ready. The entire place was uncrowded (so they could have given us what we booked). The room we got was nice, however there were some maintenance issues (bad light switches, a sliding door that was nearly impossible to open, a broken coffee maker, and a run down storage room across the hall). We enjoyed the fact that there was never a wait at any of the restaurants and we always got a lounger at the pool.

Favorite Vacation so far

We just got back from our trip to Punta Cana, it was our first time there and we will be back! We stayed at Sanctuary Cap Cana and it was wonderful. We set up our ride to and from the resort with Hello Tours , the vans were in great condition and air conditioned, they met us at the airport with a sign that had our last name, it is a private car so no other people to deal with. The drivers spoke good English and were very informative about the area, they even took our bags up to the check in counter and waited with us ! When we arrived at the resort we were amazed that it was even prettier then the pictures, we sat down to check in with a very nice guy who served us each a beer or champagne, they took us to our room in a golf cart , when we walked in it was a WOW moment, the room was gorgeous, just as pictured, tons of space and the bed was so comfortable, the sheets were like sleeping on a cloud ! The service at the pool bar was excellent , actually the service in the resort was excellent period! Our favorite place to eat was the Blue Marlin, incredible views and the food was 5 star. You will need to make reservations for Fusion & the Wok house - the Steak place was also excellent, the steaks were super tender and flavorful. You will find that the grounds of the resort are impeccable, they are constantly working on them and everyone is friendly. You can go on a bike ride around the resort every morning at 10am - we opted for coffee and pastries brought to us in our room every morning and then met our friends for breakfast at the Bella Casa buffet which was always fresh, they make omelettes at breakfast and tacos for lunch with fresh fish too if you want it cooked to order. We have traveled a lot and this is one of our favorite places, we will be back for sure !

What's to Love

The Sanctuary Spa is fabulous and features 20,000 sq ft of full-service relaxation, including amenities and services such as hydrotherapy and a state-of-the-art fitness center.

What We'd Change

This resort does have a beach, but it's recommended that you take the easy three-minute walk to nearby Juanillo Beach, where the surf is a bit tamer. That just means no one blocks the ocean views from your room!

Why You Should Go

This extraordinarily luxurious Cap Cana resort rests on a plot of land twice the size of Manhattan and is replete with ivory beaches, iridescent indigo surf and awe-inspiring cliff faces.

Hotel Description

Sanctuary Cap Cana: Indulge in Immense Luxury, Intense Relaxation

Escape to a pristine getaway twice the size of Manhattan, where alabaster-white sands, emerald forests, expansive cliff faces and a rolling blue-green surf surround the all inclusive Sanctuary Cap Cana. Featuring 176 suites and villas, this luxury resort is also home to Sanctuary Spa, a Punta Cana gem that features a 20,000-sq-ft facility complete with nine treatment rooms, a relaxation garden, a Pilates studio and a thermal hydrotherapy circuit.

Pleasantly perched right on a beachfront, the Sanctuary at Punta Cana is just a three-minute walk to popular Juanillo Beach, where guests enjoy palm-tree lined sands with an assortment of sun loungers and the resort's water sports center. With five swimming pools, including one saltwater pool, and the Freshco swim-up bar, guests can also find plenty of water-laden luxury without setting foot on the sand. Enjoy plush towels and complimentary loungers poolside with plenty of shady umbrellas to indulge in as little or as much Caribbean sunshine as you desire.

The Blue Marlin, a seafood restaurant resting on stilts over the sea, offers fresh seafood indoors or al fresco, with one-in-a-million views. If you're interested in pushing your taste buds east, try Pan-Asian fare courtesy of Wok, or indulge in Italian classics at Capriccio. Sigh your contented sighs, but don't turn in just yet! The Sanctuary Cap Cana offers live nightly entertainment, theme and cocktail parties and consistent programming for children and families. The night is as young as you make it with five bars, including a live piano bar.

Guests at the resort can hoof about the countryside on horseback, paint the resort red with paintball, charge the cliff-tops on complimentary mountain bikes or shake their money-makers at a dance lesson or two. And if the day goes long, or the night stretches into the day, it would be a shame not to capitalize on 24-hr room service. Have a delicious snack delivered right to your Monarch Ocean Front Villa, and set up a late night feeding frenzy on your terrace. When your own private garden looks out over the moon-kissed Caribbean, it's easy to see why sleep can wait a bit.
