Great Value!!!

This resort was fantastic. The layout was great, everyone was extremely helpful & accommodating, and there was no lack of things to do. The nightclub was closed for renovation, but other than that everything was exactly as advertised. We look forward to coming back next year.

Spent a Week at the Riu in Mo-Bay

Stayed at the Riu in MId Oct 2016. We booked this because of the value at the time, It was the most reasonable offering that still had good reviews. Overall our stay was good. The pool areas are clean and tidy. Always had towels available. The grounds are very well kept, even during construction. We don't drink alcohol so I was glad to have non-alcoholic mixed drinks available at the bars, though after about the third day it grew a little tiresome that the barkeep kept giving me a hard time about not drinking. I can still enjoy myself without being liquored up. The rooms were nice and comfortable. The AC was always cold. The only complaint about the room was we booked an ocean view room, and technically you could see the ocean, but for the upgraded prices that was paid I was hoping to be nearer the beach. Our view overlooked the lunch restaurant with the ocean in the distance. Room fridge was always well stocked even with non alcoholic beverages. The housekeeping staff was great always would ask if we needed anything. (THANKS OLIVE!) The evening entertainment was good, the local reggae cover band they had play each night was great to listen too at the theater/lounge. The evening shows were good. Not Vegas style quality but I'd recommend the Michael Jackson show for sure. We enjoyed the pre-shows where the staff interacted with the guests. Some of our favorite staff members were Cash, Lady Foxy, Lady Biscuit, T-Pain, and Supreme. They made our stay enjoyable. The food. We stayed 7 nights, the food overall is not bad, but the options don't change much, There's the breakfast buffet in the morning with your typical breakfast offerings. We enjoyed that. Lunch was served near the pool in an open air building, the offerings didn't change much except for a few select items. I recommend the Jerk Chicken on the beach for lunches. As for dinner we were not impressed with the dinner options. They have three restaurants plus the regular buffet. We tried the Asian one the first night, it was alright, but very bland. But you shouldn't expect this to taste like authentic chinese food. The italian placed was our most liked choice, it seemed to be the placer everyone went each night. Lastly the Steak place was just not good, the steak was gristly, and fatty and overcooked even though I asked for medium rare. We ended up eating at the buffet dinner place after that. the last two nights we were there we ended up leaving the property and going to Margaritaville, and the Pelican in Mo-Bay. It was better food even though it cost us to go there. My biggest complaint would be the food, with this being an all -inclusive resort the options I hoped would be better, Seemed like they re-used food from the previous day on all the buffets. Aside from that I was very happy with the resort, and the overall stay. WWe would book again, but maybe not for as long knowing we would be eating off property as bit more than budgeted.

Meh

I had only heard great things about Riu before this trip. I would not stay at a Riu resort again. It was not terrible but I didn't see what the hype was about. There are plenty of other places for cheaper that are just as good. In terms of food, there was a lot of it sure but nothing really tasted right. Even down to the most basic thing like pasta. I will give them the jerk chicken on the beach. That was AMAZING and I wish it was all day instead of 12-3. Also not a single beef patty! How am I staying at a resort in Jamaica and I don't have a steady stream of delicious flaky spicy beef patties all day? The people working in the resort were super nice and friendly. We had someone with a food allergy and sometimes it was a bit difficult explaining/getting food made for her. Again we didn't have a terrible time but I would stay elsewhere for less money. Also no free wifi in the room??? You have to pay $40 for a week and its super slow!

What's to Love

No reservations needed at any of the restaurants.

The epic-sized pool goes on for days and has room for everyone. No trouble finding a lounger here.

Delicious Jerk Chicken at the shack on the beach. It'll be your daily pit stop.

You'll love the "drink of the day" - fun, sometimes fruity, and definitely worth a cheers.

Every room has a balcony and nothing beats sitting outside your room with warm ocean breezes.

The luscious Renova Spa does wonders for your body and soul. You'll thank us later.

Carve out time to snorkel off the gentle shores of Jamaica. The plankton shine brightly and can't wait to see you.

Put on your dancing shoes because the band at the Coconut Bar has got some serious steely tunes.

What We'd Change

Reserving dinner seating at the a la carte restaurants is a must. Book early - even before you arrive, if you can.

Why You Should Go

Just a hop, skip and a jig away from Sanger International Airport in Montego Bay. Beachy drinks await.

Dunns Falls is a great day trip - hiking, zip lining, snorkeling, picnicking - it's a blast for everyone.

The staff is amazing. Seriously, they take care of it all. You just sit back and let the pampering begin.

Bring your own colorful beach towel if you want to easily see your lounger by the pool.

Start off your day at the sweat-busting gym. Always good to get those toxins out of your bod.

If you're there in July, check out the Reggae Sumfest. Jammin', mon.
