Not what I paid for

I am an adult over 30 without children and traveled with my family (all adults). We stayed at riu in August 2016 and stay in all inclusive resets every year. We are not typically complainers, but we expect to receive the quality we are paying for. This property did not meet my expectations for an all inclusive resort and we will not be returning. This hotel was listed online as a 4-star property and it is definitely not! Improvements/renovations are required around the entire property. The rooms are clean, but very much out of date. There also seems to be a short supply in bedding because my room never had comforters, just the backup blanket that is typically used when a rollaway is brought to the room. Paint on the exterior was peeling off almost every wall I saw. Furniture throughout the hotel was decent in some area, but other public area were in bad need of replacement. Ex: the love seats in the lobby are worn badly and have sheets of plywood under the seat cushion (which are moved without effort) to support people from falling through them. Entertainment is so routine. There wasn't even on wild card. On our seventh day, the exact shows costumes, schedule are used. During the day there are only 2 or 3 pool activities. The rotate water polo and water volleyball. Bingo starts at 6pm. So, plan excursions on several days. Food was good in the main hall, but dining in the specialty restaurants was not even as good as the main hall. The fitness center is okay, but more on the dirty side with older equipment. The staff. Well we noticed that we were receiving the normal treatment when we are on vacation and when I mentioned this to a staff member, I was told that it is because we came during what Jamaicans refer to as "black week". Well considering that I am brown myself, I was really disgusted and was ready to leave. With that being said service was outstanding from some employees, when others were rather disappointing. We never even saw members of management. No gm, no manager on duty, no one available to address concerns, no one in the dining hall asking how we are enjoying the stay, no hotel ambassadors making friends and mingling (or maybe they were there but didn't want to). We have repeated stays at several other properties, but will never go back to this one. This property is not a good example of what Jamaica is all about. Lastly, we continuously received notifications from from the cable company via the television that the cable would be disconnected unless payment was made within 48 hours.

What's to Love

Reveling in the unmatched, unlimited, all-inclusive thang. Can't beat it.

The epic-sized pool goes on for days and has room for everyone. No trouble finding a lounger here.

Delicious Jerk Chicken at the shack on the beach. It'll be your daily pit stop.

You'll love the "drink of the day" - fun, sometimes fruity, and definitely worth a cheers.

Every room has a balcony and nothing beats sitting outside your room with warm ocean breezes.

The luscious Renova Spa does wonders for your body and soul. You'll thank us later.

Carve out time to snorkel off the gentle shores of Jamaica. The plankton shine brightly and can't wait to see you.

Put on your dancing shoes because the band at the Coconut Bar has got some serious steely tunes.

What We'd Change

Reserving dinner seating at the a la carte restaurants is a must. Book early - even before you arrive, if you can.

Why You Should Go

Just a hop, skip and a jig away from Sanger International Airport in Montego Bay. Beachy drinks await.

Dunns Falls is a great day trip - hiking, zip lining, snorkeling, picnicking - it's a blast for everyone.

The staff is amazing. Seriously, they take care of it all. You just sit back and let the pampering begin.

Bring your own colorful beach towel if you want to easily see your lounger by the pool.

Start off your day at the sweat-busting gym. Always good to get those toxins out of your bod.

If you're there in July, check out the Reggae Sumfest. Jammin', mon.
