Merry Christmas, I guess.

Arrived and was told my family of 4 would have to sleep on a king sized bed because they were at 99% capacity. Was told they couldn't give me an upgrade since I booked through a 3rd party site, but they were upgrading my parents since they did not. Offered to have us change rooms the next day to 2 double beds. Okay, fine, problem solved. Went to dinner the first night in the steak house. It may be the place where they put their newest servers. Refused to serve food to my 2 year old at the specialty restaurant. I asked what she could eat. They said to share. We did not receive all of the courses listed on the menu. Okay, whatever, the steak was pretty tasty compared to other Rius I have been to. Room changing on day 2 went decent. They kept our luggage in the back for six hours, but who cares, we relaxed by the pool. Drinks were flowing, pool was cold, but not as cold as the snow back home, right? Lunch was delicious compared to other Rius I've been to. Specialty restaurants are first come, first serve, no reservations. Dined at the Italian place. Was nice, food was very good. Entertainment was the best I've seen at a Riu. Entertainment staff is excellent. Day 3 is more relaxing by the pool. Every 10 to 20 minutes a departing plane goes overhead. That's what you get being so close to the airport. We just said, "Everyone drinks when a plane's overhead." Fun game. I, personally, prefer the closeness to the airport. Bring on the planes. Asian specialty food for dinner. Very, very good. Day 4 is Christmas Eve. We signed up for a on-site photographer to take our pictures. Very good pricing. Unfortunately our photographer didn't know how to line up a shot, so the pictures were a little less than professional. Only a little; worth the price. Christmas Eve night is their big celebration dinner. I made reservations the day of my arrival since my party had more than 6. We get there for our time and they don't have our reservation. They don't miss a beat and seat us anyway. Perfect. I go into the buffet. It is beautiful. Pig Roast, various meats, and Lobster. Watch out for the lobster line, it was 30 minutes to snatch a lobster. It was surprising the line cutting and then subsequent "fighting" that would happen. Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night. Day 5 Christmas Day--Beach fun. Pretty decent beach, not my favorite. (Riu Ocho Rios is my favorite.) At my parents request, we went to the steakhouse for dinner since they weren't there for the first steak night. They showed up at 6:30 when it opened and they said to come back at 7:45 when more tables opened up. They took down our name and room number. We show up at 7:45 and wait in a 45 person line. When we get to the front, there are about 15 people behind us. They tell us we are the last ones they are letting in. And told the people behind us they were never promised a table as it is first come, first serve. Tempers flared. It appears everyone that was in that line had a 7:45 "reservation" to come back. In the end, they seated us, and the 15 people, after there was a lot of yelling. They sat us down. After 2 hours, and only receiving appetizers and salad, my kids were asleep at the table. I asked my family to bring the rest back to the room and I took the kids to bed. 2 hours later, my dinner was served at 12:15 am. TL;DR = Beware of the steakhouse, when you have an "appointment" or "reservation" at a certain time, about 10 other people have been given the same time. Airplanes fly overhead.

Nice Place

Food is good. The "seating's" for the restaurants are a bit silly. The buffet is really nice every day. Ocean View is not Ocean Front. Stay away from Blue Diamond for cigars. The other side Whitter Village is the palce to shop.

What's to Love

No reservations needed at any of the restaurants.

The epic-sized pool goes on for days and has room for everyone. No trouble finding a lounger here.

Delicious Jerk Chicken at the shack on the beach. It'll be your daily pit stop.

You'll love the "drink of the day" - fun, sometimes fruity, and definitely worth a cheers.

Every room has a balcony and nothing beats sitting outside your room with warm ocean breezes.

The luscious Renova Spa does wonders for your body and soul. You'll thank us later.

Carve out time to snorkel off the gentle shores of Jamaica. The plankton shine brightly and can't wait to see you.

Put on your dancing shoes because the band at the Coconut Bar has got some serious steely tunes.

What We'd Change

Reserving dinner seating at the a la carte restaurants is a must. Book early - even before you arrive, if you can.

Why You Should Go

Just a hop, skip and a jig away from Sanger International Airport in Montego Bay. Beachy drinks await.

Dunns Falls is a great day trip - hiking, zip lining, snorkeling, picnicking - it's a blast for everyone.

The staff is amazing. Seriously, they take care of it all. You just sit back and let the pampering begin.

Bring your own colorful beach towel if you want to easily see your lounger by the pool.

Start off your day at the sweat-busting gym. Always good to get those toxins out of your bod.

If you're there in July, check out the Reggae Sumfest. Jammin', mon.
