Destination Wedding
This resort was absolutely great!!! It was more than what my husband and I expected since we've never done an "all-inclusive" trip before. Also, we were attending a "destination wedding" in which our daughter took place in and the entire atmosphere for that event was great too. I highly recommend that you go here and try it out. We enjoyed it so much, that we're in the process of re-booking for next year and to another location where there are more "RIU RESORTS". Try it, you may like it--------WE DID!!!!!

Riu Montego Bay
My boyfriend and I recently spent five sun-filled days t the Riu in Montego Bay Jamaica. Upon our check in we were greeted with rum punch and courteous service. Check in was swift and we were given a detailed map of the resort to help us find our way around.
Our room was comfortable neat and clean so we thought but by day three we noticed a cockroach in the fridge which also wasn't keeping things cold. The front desk sent maintenance and an exterminator immediately but by the next day we had two more roaches and weren't offered another room until the last day and by then it was stupid to move. The resort gave us complimentary Jamaican coffee from the gift shop which we felt was too little too late.
Overall we did enjoy the other amenities like the swim up bar, daily beach BBQ of jerk chicken and the spectacular sunsets nightly.
The Buffet at breakfast lunch and dinner offer many foods for all diets.
If you intend on the specialty restaurants reserve your seats as soon as you arrive. We loved Little Italy the best The Steak House second and the Chinese restaurant which name escapes me last.
The stage shows nightly were so-so with the exception of the Michael Jackson Tribute which was excellent.
The rooms could use an upgrade the WIFI should include the whole resort not just he lobby and the 90 minutes free daily should be on a log on log off calculation...not once you log off it's goodbye till tomorrow
We look forward to returning to the under construction Riu Palace next door which will be ADULTS ONLY hopefully there will be a clothing optional beach
We give the staff service a 10 and the resort overall a 7/10 which in this day and age if a good score!!!!

I had a wonderful experience. Starting with CheapCaribbean Customer Service on the phone, receiving my confirmations and schedule of events the same day. The whole trip happened with no hassles or hangups.. The Rui Montego Bay was perfect, they welcomed me just as soon as I got off the bus with smiles and a cooling beverage. I was able to get checked into my room early and within hours I was sitting at the buffet, heading to the pool. I love the fact that there was always something to do. The Rui is beautiful and clean and they the best shows which I thoroughly enjoyed. So if you are headed to Rui Montego Bay .....GO and ENJOY....Cheers!

The deposit program is a great way to split your payments for your reservation. There is a $25 convenience fee to do a deposit, and at the time of booking you will have to pay for airfare, any additional insurance you might purchase, taxes, and the $25 deposit fee. The remaining balance of the reservation is due 21 days before you travel and is automatically charged to the credit card on file unless otherwise specified.

If you decide to use our deposit program the final balance is autocharged 21 days prior to departure so you would want to book early enough to make it worth doing the deposit. Booking a package with only one airfare is no problem! You just need to call our new reservations center and someone can price it out for you. You will still get special package pricing on the hotel and just pay for one airfare through us.

Everything is included in your price. Food, restaurants that you need a reservation for (specialty places, asian, steakhouse, italian) snorkeling, kayaking, beach food, all bars, restaurants. Also they have daily events, nightly entertainment. Great place!

In 2 restuarants only the entree is a al carte (salads, appetzers,desert and drinks are buffet) and the 3rd restaurant is all all buffet. This resort does not offer fine dining!

Unless I'm misinterpreting: if the resort option you pick is all-inclusive, the cost of food, drink, and dining are included in the sale. We paid nothing on food/drink between arriving at the airport and getting off the shuttle when it returned us to the airport.

Totally included. They have 4 restaurants. One is buffet dining all the time for dinner and no reservations. Tons of food to choose from. The others you have to make reservations, so see the conceirge when you check in (hope I spelled that correctly). Unlimited food. They also have lunch in one of the restaurants during the day and cook jerk chicken with rice and beans on the beach. The also have a sport bar with sandwiches, nachos, popcorn, etc. ....all this food (and drink: alcohol or not) isd unlimited and included in your all-inclusive package (as well as unlimited liquor dispensor with four liquors and a mini-frige with cokes, tonic water, organge drink, water, etc.) stocked in your room every day. Also included in your all-inclusive price. Can't beat it with a stick!

Riu Montego Bay does have shade areas under the palm trees which line the beach.

Yes, they have areas with palm trees for shade. Don't recall about the umbrellas because we were kyacking and sailing that is included the whole time. Did sit in the provided lounge chairs under a palm tree once on the beach. Plenty of shaded areas if you are by the pool area....and nicely decorated too!

Yes, book all off property excursions through the resort, much safer. There were several people when we were there that did not and had trouble with having their money taken (no one got hurt just mysteriously lost their $$$) or were detained by not so honest "police" that needed something for their efforts... Be safe use the resort staff you will be much happier and have a better experience.

The nightly shows are really good, the disco opens at 11 pm we went twice, first night not so good, second time great time. I think it depends on who and what type of crowd is there at the same time. The club itself is nice, great music too. If you go off property make sure you are escorted by resort staff.

As the hotel is conveniently located less than 2 miles from the airport, there are planes that fly overhead from the morning, until the evening. The amount of planes flying over in a given day can vary based on the time of year and the day of the week. There is a higher occurrence of planes during the weekends, and during the busy travel season. Most of our clients advise us that the planes do not tend to bother them during their stay.

A few planes fly over but you hardly notice them. I don't think the resort is in the direct flight path. We stopped at another resort to take a catamaran ride and that had planes directly flying above and low over them. I didn't hear any planes at night time.

I did not go snorkeling. But I know there were boat taking out peole for diving, and I would think you could snorkel. The hotel could give you this info.

you can take an excusrion that includes catamaran, snorkling and margarittaville.about 10 minutes away from the resort. didn't see many fish but the coral reefs where nice. it is a total trip of 3 hours. there is also snorkling at the hotel. didn't do that so don't know.

Snorkeling on the beach at resort is worthless, they will give you equipment free just nothing to see. Go to the watersport shack and pay for the snorkeling trip well worth the money. The crew of boat are great, tell Captain Ron and firstmate Richard I said HI!!

The snorkling was $30 per person and was just ok. We took about a 15 min boat ride and snorkled for 45 minutes then went to another spot about 10 min away and snorkeled another 45 min. Not very colorful but still fun.

It is possible that some of the ROH Double rooms could have an Ocean View, however it is not guaranteed. The views in the ROH category can be ocean, garden or pool or resort view and are subject to availability. If you would like to guarantee an Ocean View you would be able to purchase an upgraded ocean view room.

What we did was booked trip from Ft Lauderdale to Jamaica and purchased separate flights from hometown to Ft Lauderdale, actually ended up much cheaper that way. Just make sure to leave enough time between flight transfer times and customs when returning home.

The airport if less than 15 mins maybe even 10 mins. I did not go the the falls this trip but think it is not close. The are tours you can pay for to get there. Look on the map Rui is very close to Montago Bay airport and see how far the falls are from there

You will be able to use your hairdryer and not have to get an adapter for the outlets. They use the same outlets as we do, 2 prong outlet. You will not be able to plug in a hairdryer if it has 3 prongs.

No, the shuttle from airport to Montego Bay is very affordable, much cheaper and safer than a taxi. Don't trust the taxi service unless it is arranged through the resort or Cheap Caribbean or affiliate. It's not safe and don't take chances.

The package pricing reflects the price per person based on double occupancy, and with flights departing out of Miami or Fort Lauderdale. If you are departing from another airport or traveling with more (or less) passengers, simply select those parameters and proceed through the booking to get an accurate price for your trip.

Yes there is parking at the resort. While they do request that men wear long pants and shirts with sleeves to dinner, the code is a little more relaxed for ladies. I saw a lot of ladies in sun and maxi dresses during dinner, however they are very strict about beach wear (both men and women) in the dinner areas. Ladies must have on a cover up and men must have on a shirt.

a dress code is listed for gentlemen, however, they do want the ladies to dress up as well, I would suggest bringing along some dresses or skirts, or nice dress pants and nice sandals or shoes. i would contact the resort directly regarding whether you can park a car there.

I don't know about parking, but ladies can wear whatever they would like to dinner. I saw dresses, capris, shorts, etc. I even say men wearing shorts in restaurants that were 'pants only.'

There were single women there, alone and with groups of other single friends, during my stay there. There were also groups of single men. There is a free shuttle that runs nightly to Margaritaville, and Margaritaville features nightly, themed parties. However, except for Ladies Night, there is an admission charge. In regards to the resort, there is daytime entertainment in the form of pool parties/contests and nightly entertainment of the same sort. Your trip will be what you make of it. You can choose to be friendly to others and engage in conversations and friendships; or you can choose to spend the majority of your time relaxing alone.

I felt like there were a lot of couples on vacation, honeymoon or anniversaries together as well as families with kids so i didn't see see too many groups of just females or males but a few.

There are lots of activities at the resort. They have water polo, pool aerobics, beach games and water sports during the day; and the night club is open every evening except for Tuesdays (when they have a bus that drops guests off and picks them up from Margaritaville. I went with my husband, but we saw lots of single women there hanging out, and there were a decent amount of single guys too. Hope this helps!

During the day, there are a lot of water activities you can do in the ocean (kayaking, paddle boating, sailing, etc). They also have sand volleyball, aerobics, water polo, and all sorts of other activities during the day. I think that singles would enjoy this resort just as much as couples. At night there is a dance club at the resort, and one night there were free shuttles to Margaritaville. Margaritaville turns into a dance club at night and in the city of Montego Bay. It was fun to go there and hang out with some of the locals. I've never been to Negril so I don't know how it would compare.

There is not a lot to do at night for kids. My son is 13. He was not interested in the shows, so that did not leave a lot. During the day with the pool and beach, he was very happy and busy. There are plenty of sports available as well as the kayaking, etc.

There is nothing for teens to do, I took my daughter for her 16th Birthday and she did not have a good time at all. We did enjoy the Dolphin Cove but that was in Negril! Nothing at the hotel for teens to enjoy, especially in the evening and there were alot of teens there.

We did the Dreamers Catarmarn and it was very nice. We booked at the hotel with Patrina who works for Cheapcarbbean.com and I think it was around $90 each. We also did the Zipline and it was really fun. I think it was around $100.

We saw people kayaking and paddle boating every day and you just walk up and get them. We did use catamaran at least 2-3 days each day. All free. Never had to wait long for one. They had several kayaks and paddleboats and 2 catamarans were available most days but they had 3.

The catamaran and Kayak is included in the price. If you want to sail the catamaran we were asked if we knew how to sail, otherwise the boating staff made it clear that they could take you out for a ride on the catamaran for a fee of $20.00 Fortunately my son knows how to sail. I do not know if the fee is a resort policy, most likely they were just trying to make extra money on the side.

There is a little shopping mall across the street. We were told that they do not like us to leave the resort, but a firm NO to the hasslers was all that was needed. They are mostly fast food restuarants. No other resorts around except Sandals and there was a cement barrier so that we couldn't get to their resort. We took a catermaran trip from the RIU to Margaritaville and did snorkeling along the way. Once in town were able to shop at some shops and look around.

No. You are about 4 miles from the center of Montego Bay. A cab ride into town costs around $40 USD. Sandals is right next door but there is a fence between the resorts so you can't enter the property.

Yes the bar is close to the beach. They do have music playing some of the time at the pool. No music at the beach and the music that is at the buffets is just piped in music. They do have live bands at the nightly shows.

One of the bars overlooks the beach, but you have to walk down a flight of stairs and walk a good 75 feet to get to the beach chairs. Bring along a large insulated mug for drinks. The cups they provide are tiny and the contents will melt immediately. There is a 4 person band that walks around during dinner some nites and will sing for individual tables. No band though. There was no music on the beach. Music by the pool varied between the radio and a CD that somebody left on repeat for an entire afternoon.

The bar is fairly close to the beach and yes, you can hear music. There's no live band at the buffet or beach (as far as I remember), but you can hear the music played from the pool area.

There is a bar attached to the pool. The pool is about 50 feet from the beach. So the bar is pretty close to the beach. They had music playing through speakers most of the day and then they had live bands at night. There wasnt really any music on the beach.
If you go, I recommend eating the jerk chicken on the beach everyday at 12. They really make some good jerk chicken.

there is a small bar by the beach.. Sadly there is no music by the pool area only while activities are going on.. The live band is at night after the show around 11pm. No music at the buffet or beach.. the bar that is by the pool has alil music but not loud enough for the whole pool area to hear..

The upstairs sports bar had popcorn, nachos, and a refrigerator of premade sandwiches (I believe it is open 24/7). The dining halls all had beer taps and the buffet even had bottles of liquor at night so you could drink while you ate there. The way the dining halls were scheduled one seemed to always be open if you needed a food fix while drinking, but no one was serving any kind of food at the other bars.

Bars don't have food but food set up on beach (jerk chicken and sausages) only steps away from pool bar and beach bar with lunch dining also within short walk. Many folks brought jerk chicken back to pool / bar area or food from lunch buffet. Just have to wear cover up to enter buffet. Swim suits fine for beach food / chicken.
