  Exceptional All Inclusive Resort Hotel in Riviera Nayarit

  We booked 3 weeks at the Occidental Hotel in Nuevo Vallarta or Riviera Nayarit as it is now known. Our reservation included an upgrade to the Royal level which I have to say really made our stay special with an exclusive restaurant for breakfast and dinner and premium drinks at the bar. Overall we would give the hotel a 5 star review for the accommodation, quality and variety of food in all the restaurants, the lovely pools, and first class entertainment. Great tennis / pickleball court too! But above all I have to mention the wonderful friendly staff who work so hard to make this such a memorable place to stay. There were a few minor issues including quite sudden variations in the water temperature whilst showering and a lack of tables in the lounge bar. Our highlight of the day was having a leisurely breakfast on the 7th floor in the Royal level restaurant , whilst watching the whales through our binoculars. Have to mention Antonio, Danna, Tito, Marisol, and chef Sara who served us so well. Lovely staff in the evening too including Jose, Manuel, Francisco (I think), and a lovely girl (whose name I forget). Should also mention Irene from the Royal level pool bar who served us so well! This was our first visit to this Barcelo owned hotel and I fully expect it not to be our last.

  Worth it!

  Awesome staff make this resort more than worth it. Resort is small, well kept, immediate pool or beach access, and the staff are incredible. We’ll be back

  Good trip minus one incident

  I went with my husband and another couple. I had stayed at this resort back in 2010 and I found the staff and service better this time. We booked the Royal level and found it worth it just for the Royal level pool alone. It's much quieter and calmer than the regular pool, which was busy and had loud music playing throughout the day. Our only complaint is that my husband lost his wallet one night (fell out of his pocket while sitting in the chairs for the evening entertainment). He alerted the hotel staff who launched an investigation. We thought it would be an easy resolution, as there are security cameras everywhere, but they had not found his wallet by the time we checked out. A random staff member approached him in the lobby to hand him his license and credit card which had been found "in the garden". The other items in his wallet (cash, business cards, key to suitcase lock, and sentimental items from his mother) plus the wallet itself were never recovered. That was our only disappointment.

  Classsy hotel

  The hotel looks great and has a wonderful beach and a nice pool. The food was very good and the service was excellent. I was disappointed that there was so much noise. I had a difficult time finding a quiet area. There was music playing everywhere. The music at the pool was too loud. The exercise class and bingo, etc were extremely loud.

  We loved it!

  Our stay at Occidental Nuevo Vallarta was absolutely wonderful from start to finish. The resort was clean, beautiful, and very well maintained. Every staff member we encountered was friendly, welcoming, and eager to help, which made us feel comfortable and taken care of throughout our trip. We traveled with our baby, and the resort was especially accommodating for families. The atmosphere was peaceful and relaxing, the pools were great, and there were plenty of places to walk and enjoy the scenery. The food was consistently delicious with lots of variety, and we appreciated how easy everything was. The beach was gorgeous and never felt overcrowded. Overall, it was a stress-free, enjoyable vacation, and we made some really special family memories here. We would absolutely return and highly recommend it to others, especially families traveling with young children.
