Feb 23, 2026A wonderful experience, even in tough times!
The resort itself is awesome, and the staff are excellent! They make you feel like family. Especially Julio Larios, who works in the First Club lounge - he brightened our days! Also Atalia Soria of First Club ,who was so patient with us, and always smiling and so helpful - her help with our many questions will never be forgotten. The staff that had to stay on due to unrest in Puerto Vallarta, worked their hearts out, and it was appreciated more than they could ever know.

Thank You for a Fabulous Experience
Absolutely amazing all around! The staff were friendly and helpful, there was a variety of delicious food options, restaurants were different and easy to get reservations, the lounges weren’t ever long and they made drinks quickly…and yummy, and the housekeeping/ room/ resort were clean and tidy! I’d like to give a special shoutout to the entertainers. The activities throughout the day were fun and spaced out perfectly. Personally, always looked forward to water aerobics. Huge thank you to Ricardo and Armando….they were able to get the crowd involved and knew how to make people smile. We had a great time getting to know them individually throughout our time there.

Beach Front All Inclusive Resort
Very positive overall experience for our first time to an all inclusive resort. Staff in all areas of resort were very attentive and friendly everyone contributes to making this a clean, aesthetic, relaxing vacation destination. Excellent location in Nuevo Vallarta - easy walk across street to small mall with grocery shop, laundry, restaurants and some shopping. Occidental Resort offers great amenities. We are not Royal level or Club members. Pros – cleanliness everywhere, aesthetic grounds, tasty food with variety in hot/cold/fresh/protein and specialty grilled options. We ate mainly in the buffet or the Al Fresco Mexican restaurant open for lunch. Three specialty restaurants can also be booked. Room was spacious, spotless with very comfortable king sized bed. Fridge is restocked daily with water, a few snacks and other drinks. Free WiFi in room and throughout resort. Morning exercises were a highlight for me. Thanks to poolside staff (Ricardo, Armando, Dani and Ava) for leading daily yoga, water-fit and zumba. Great beach to walk on. Swimming pool options allow for needs of adults and children. Nightly entertainment. There are other amenities like a gym, spa and one tennis/pickleball court. Poolside and indoor bars offer water, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. Cons were minor and minimal for us. Digital info boards state it is a smoke/vape free resort. Main areas and most (?) rooms are no smoking but ashtrays on patios and balconies permit smoking in these outdoor areas. Smoke smell at times through our bathroom vent and when sitting in lounge chairs outdoor as smoking occurs on sand fronting poolside lounge chairs. Room sink & shower needed some attention due to wear resulting in positioning of shower head challenging at times. Overall a 5/5 rating for us. We would return again!

Exceptional All Inclusive Resort Hotel in Riviera Nayarit
We booked 3 weeks at the Occidental Hotel in Nuevo Vallarta or Riviera Nayarit as it is now known. Our reservation included an upgrade to the Royal level which I have to say really made our stay special with an exclusive restaurant for breakfast and dinner and premium drinks at the bar. Overall we would give the hotel a 5 star review for the accommodation, quality and variety of food in all the restaurants, the lovely pools, and first class entertainment. Great tennis / pickleball court too! But above all I have to mention the wonderful friendly staff who work so hard to make this such a memorable place to stay. There were a few minor issues including quite sudden variations in the water temperature whilst showering and a lack of tables in the lounge bar. Our highlight of the day was having a leisurely breakfast on the 7th floor in the Royal level restaurant , whilst watching the whales through our binoculars. Have to mention Antonio, Danna, Tito, Marisol, and chef Sara who served us so well. Lovely staff in the evening too including Jose, Manuel, Francisco (I think), and a lovely girl (whose name I forget). Should also mention Irene from the Royal level pool bar who served us so well! This was our first visit to this Barcelo owned hotel and I fully expect it not to be our last.

Worth it!
Awesome staff make this resort more than worth it. Resort is small, well kept, immediate pool or beach access, and the staff are incredible. We’ll be back
