  Vallarta Vacation

  Friend vacation we had a blast and they have a beach massage available. Great time at the beach. There are many vendors at the beach.

  Not quite a 5 star anymore but still nice.

  We have been stayed at this pretty little resort several times during the past 10 years or so. We've always loved the smaller size of the resort, it's location. Staff has always been great here and this time was no exception. However change is inevitable and we are not sure if we will return or not. In the past the Occidental always felt like a couples resort. We've always enjoyed meeting and socializing with other couples from all over the world. This time however the Occidental felt more like a party/family resort. There were several large wedding groups/families that seemed to overtake the pool and the lobby bar. Half way through our week we decided to spend the extra money and upgrade to Royal level just so we could sit at the less crowded, quieter pool. While it was definitely more peaceful there, we were surprised that children were allowed there and that guests who were not Royal members were also enjoying that pool. There is already a wonderful childrens' pool at the resort. Please consider making this an 'adults only' pool again. The Royal level gave us access to the 7th floor restaurant for the first time. While the atmosphere there was very nice and the view was beautiful, the food was not really any better then at the other restaurants. We also found this restaurant very dated, and the number of dead bugs and one dead little lizzard in the lamp above our table was a bit of turnoff. Overal the food was good throughout the resort. Made to order omellets at the breakfast buffet were delicious. Prime rib at the buffet one evening was amazing. Unfortunately the noise level at the buffet is absolutely crazy, especially at breakfast. The sound of dishes being cleaned and stacked was relentless and ricocheted off of the floors and walls in every direction. It is so noisy that at times you can't even hear yourself talk. We loved the Mariachi restaurant at lunch, open air, beautiful view and peaceful quiet atmosphere. The food there however was the same every day, there used to be more variety. If you want guacamole and salsa, it is no longer available at the buffet but just ask for it and it will be brought to your table. Had a wonderful evening at the Tokyo restaurant. The Teppanyaki was really fun and delicious. The Italian restaurant was very good as well. Our room was nice with an ocean view. Clean and spacious and it had everything we needed and the bed was very comfortable. The location of our room however, on the fourth floor directly above the lobby and bar made it quite noisy until about 1 am on the weekend nights. We managed to sleep through it fine, but light sleepers would probably prefer a room on either one of the side wings of the resort. Again, the staff was wonderful throughout the entire resort. Always friendly and helpful. A special shoutout to Erik at the lobby bar. He has been there for years and we always enjoy seeing him again.

  Very nice resort

  We stayed in Royal Level and the pool and bar service there was awesome. The Italian restaurant had the best tasting food. Staff in this resort are very attentive and friendly. The grounds and public bathrooms are kept very clean. We would definitely come back to this resort again in the future.

  A perfect place to stay

  Amazing! Have incredible food. Amazing room with comfort! And the beach the pool I miss it too much! Stay here when visiting!

  Things have changed alot in 18 months

  Restaurant, bar, pool, room, buffet & lounge staff were all exceptional, though worked off their feet. Room was nice, and wonderful to have a balcony. Food in restaurants was great, Buffet food had lots of variety, but unfortunately the beef and pork always seemed tough to chew. Drinks seem watered down to the point were we started to order the hard liquor on the side for a "fancy drink" or we would just drink beer. Didn't like that we had to pay in advance at check in (this was different than 18 months ago), as felt like if we had to check out early, there would be no opportunity to get a "refund", probably just a credit, which we may not have wanted. Shows were entertaining, and it was nice to have a mellow lobby bar, with some entertainment thrown in, but not always. Pool was nice size, but would've liked the ability to have access to the hot tub, which was only available in booking Royal Service.
