Honest review of a GREAT resort!!!!

First of all, let me start by saying that I read numerous reviews on numerous sites about The Majestic Mirage before we left for vacation. I know that booking a resort is always a flip of a coin and I had my doubts before going. In the end though, I was extremely happy that we picked this resort and we had such a great time! Were there a few hiccups? Yes. But did we thoroughly enjoy ourselves? Absolutely! Yes our room was not ready when we got there. We arrived at 2 and check in is not until 3. We ended up getting our room around 4:30 but were offered a different room that was not as good as the room we were getting if we didn't want to wait. We decided to wait and the wait was WELL worth it. My husband and I took our two children with us and our room was HUGE! It consisted of one master bedroom with a king size bed, a master bathroom, then a living room with a sofa, two double beds, and a second bathroom. Our balcony was also very big and there were two separate doors to get to it. It also had a jacuizzi tub which we used almost every night. It was small but big enough for us to sit around with our feet in and spend time together relaxing. Our butler, Junior, was amazing! My kids absolutely loved him! My daughter even made him a thank you card when we left. He would leave little gifts and treats for the kids each day. We didn't spend a whole lot of time in our room, so he would leave a note that he stopped by and to call him if we needed anything. We never asked a whole lot from him, as we felt we were fully able to call down for little things we needed ourselves, but he was always checking in and making us feel welcomed and special. Please remember that the butlers are there to ensure your stay is great, but are not working 24 hours a day and have other guests on their agendas as well. We just thought it was so sweet of him to always remember us and to treat our children with such kindness! Thank you so much Junior!! The restaurants were great overall. We liked the Seaside and the Steakhouse the best. The main buffet was nice for breakfast, but it was hard to pin down a waiter at times to get drinks. We felt like they would pass the buck on to someone else instead of just get the drinks and there would be times that we were almost finished eating before we would get any drinks. We didn't get too upset about it though and figured that if that is the worst thing that happened, we were in great shape! Also no one got sick and I was extremely thankful for that considering we had children with us and this was their first time out of the country. The pools were very nice and extremely clean. We also loved the swim up bar. The beach was a little rough as there was a lot of seaweed, but we still enjoyed ourselves there and the kids loved playing in the sand. Just wished the seaweed wouldn't have been as bad as it was. The family foam party was awesome and my kids really enjoyed that a lot!! Don't miss that! We did have a glitch when we were checking out. There was a bottle of wine purchased under our room number for $55 that we did not purchase. It was even bought at the French restaurant that we never visited as our daughter was not old enough to eat there (only 12 years old and older were allowed). We couldn't wait to get it resolved as we would miss our bus to the airport so they made us charge it and said that they would look into it and reverse the charge once they saw that we never made a reservation there. The charge hasn't been reversed yet, but I will call if it isn't in the next day or so. We should have tried to resolve it the night before but didn't think it would be such a process. Hopefully we aren't out that money, but I will have to wait and see. If you have a problem like that, take care of it the night before and you should be fine. Again...it wasn't enough to ruin our vacation, just a bummer if we don't get that back. We booked 2 excursions while we were there. One was to Saona beach and the other was the VIP jungle rally. Saona was nice once we got there, but be aware that it takes awhile and there are a lot of other people going with you. It took us around 2 hours to actually reach the beach and it was crowded the entire way. The port to get on the bus was also a bit nerve racking with children as you are immediately bombarded with locals trying to sell you things. Also they tell you to be aware of your surroundings to make sure that nothing shady is going on so we were already nervous before we got to the port. Once we were at the beach though it was great! Just be aware. The VIP jungle rally was great. I would highly recommend booking that one if you can. It was just us four, our tour guide, and one other couple. No cattle calls involved lol. We learned a lot about the culture and were able to drive around in air conditioning throughout the way. They take you to a beautiful beach, through the cities, you get to meet some of the locals, they teach you about how they make coffee, tobacco, etc., you get to see the rainforest, and eat in the VIP area of the restaurant with an amazing view of the rainforest. Only bummer was the river at the end. None of us swam in it including the couple that was with us. We would have all much rather been back at the beach. Our tour guide, Jesse, was great as well and was very knowledgeable about the culture. Overall, we had a FANTASTIC vacation! Was it absolutely perfect...no, but if that is what you are expecting then you will be disappointed wherever you go. The Majestic Mirage is a beautiful resort and I would recommend it to everyone! It was stress free and my family and myself all had an amazing time! We would definitely go back again! Also I agree with much of the other reviewers, bring lots of dollar bills to tip. The staff is thoroughly thankful to receive them and it is much appreciated for all of their hard work! Thank you to all of the wonderful staff members at the Majestic Mirage! You made our vacation absolutely wonderful!

Great potential but disorganized

The grounds, the beach, and the freshness of the facilities certainly leave this resort with lots of potential, but they are clearly going through some growing pains. With construction going on next door and many other guests like ourselves seeking a different room away from construction, it appeared the front office was a little consumed and overwhelmed. Still, three requests before getting a room change, 3 requests to clean room one day, and 3 requests for just about every real and reasonable request we had with the front desk before they would follow through (besides the 2 requests made to fix the jacuzzi plug that were simply never answered). To the resorts credit they finally did come through and address most of our issues (aside from the jacuzzi which was a major selling point for us coming in the first place but we never used once!) but still a disappointing stay given too much complications/delays on a short getaway trip.

Great time!

This was our 3rd stay with the Majestic, our 1st at the Mirage. BEAUTIFUL facility, however, compared to the Elegance and the Colonial, they are still having growing pains when it comes to personal service. When we stayed at the other facilities, we had extraordinary service from the concierge(s). The Mirage seems to be still having some problems organizing their staff, and they weren't as personal and open as we were accustomed too. We arrived late, and though our gorgeous room was ready, the staff seemed surprised by our arrival. We were taken to our room, shown around, and left a number to call if we needed anything. That was the last time we heard from anyone for two days till we went to the front and began asking questions. When we stayed at the other facilities, the concierge would check with us on occasion to see if we needed anything and tell us where he would be if we needed to get in touch with him. After we spoke with the front, we were then assigned a concierge, Reinoso, who did an outstanding job. We also have to give Jumbo Kudos to Juan for his considerate and constant service at the pool. We thoroughly enjoyed getting to know him and his excellent service. Overall, we had a great time. They just need to learn a few things from their sister facilities about how to relate with the guests, or you could have Juan train the staff. Everyone at the pool loved him.
