Good Hotel, Tough Beach
Travel dates: November 17–24 Arrival: Tulum airport was fast and easy. We took a private transfer. Check-in was quick, and we got renovated rooms in Building 63. Rooms and Grounds: Renovated, clean, and comfortable. Grounds are pretty and well kept. Trams run often, but after shows you might wait for the second or third one. Hyatt JV: You can feel cost-cutting. Some bars closed, some restaurants dark, and others looked half-empty but wouldn’t take more reservations. Several guests said quality has slipped. If this keeps up, Bahia may lose loyal customers. Hotel Sharing/Crowds: Akumal sees heavy cross-traffic from the other Bahia properties. Trams are constant — it’s basically the only way to reach the beach — which funnels people into the same common areas. The buffet gets jammed as a result. Beach: If you want an easy, wide beach, this isn’t it. Outside of Tulum Beach, where the water and sand are nice, most areas are rocky or coral—bring water socks. . You can still find front-row chairs at 8–10 a.m. (except at Tulum Beach). No sailing or paddleboards, likely due to rough water. Beach volleyball was popular. A la Carte's/Reservations: This system needs a rethink. It’s the biggest stress point and likely what drives many negative reviews. Restaurants looked under capacity, yet the app or desk wouldn’t take more bookings. Either adjust inventory or change the rules — as-is, it frustrates guests. That said, we still managed six reservations — and the dining quality was excellent across the board. Food was delicious, the presentation was next-level, and the wait staff were outstanding. When you get in, it’s a win.. Entertainment: The Circus and Magic shows were genuinely good. Bottom line: We liked the rooms, service, and shows. The beach setup and the reservation system weren’t for us. We’re beach people, so next time we’ll try somewhere else.

No dinner reservations, all booked days in advance.
No option for à la carte restaurant reservations during our whole stay at the hotel, not a single one. Very dissapointed and considering not to return again.

Don't waste your money.
Booked this property for the unlimited a la carte bookings. Arrived last night to find that ALL the a la carte restaurants are fully booked for the length of my stay. Don't pay the extra money for this resort. What good are bookings you can't use!

BRILLIANT
Excellent ! 10/10 We used Bahia Principe Luxury Akamel and it was definately worth the extra. The whole resort is brilliant, beaches are excellent for swimming or for snorkelling. Miles of white sand and a small amount of stones at one end only. The buffet choice is great too, we loved them all, plenty to pick from and vegetarian choice is also good, lots of fish, steaks, roast, pizza, everything for all tastes. Staff are all very polite and try hard whatever you request. We would highly recommend this resort, this is our second visit and will return again in the near future. NB - We were there November and there was no sargassum at all.

Very good
Me and my family had an amazing time, would definitely leave the resort to go on excursions tho. Amazing staff, normal food, good entertainment. One thing though. In our 2nd night my daughter lost her expensive clothing items and the following night my partner lost his cap and watch. We went to discuss this as there is a door attached to the cleaners room so we suspected it was them. It took them 1 hour to sort it. Didn’t get anything back which was disappointing. Apart from that it was a lovely stay and do not agree on the other reviews.
