Winter Sun ☀️
Honest review 16th-30th Jan 26. UK guest. Room 5/5 I was upgraded to a newly renovated room on arrival as the resort was not at full capacity (and it was my birthday). The room was amazing! Staff 100/05!!! The staff across my entire stay were amazing! Nothing too much trouble! 🫶 Food 4/5 Buffet temperatures could be improved as sometimes Luke warm.. Speciality restaurants were lovely but make sure you book prior to arrival. I booked 10 days before check in & got all the restaurants I wanted at 7pm/7:30pm. Plenty of choice for vegetarians. We only used room service once but it was great & the food arrived hot (pizza). Tram service 5/5. Excellent service, never waited more than 5 minutes & they will drop you to your room. 🫶 Grounds 100/5!!!! Absolutely stunning, clean & well kept! Wildlife/welfare the best! I raised a concern about an agouti that looked unwell.. The rangers were there within 5 minutes to assist. Whilst the agouti was fine, the response was appreciated! 🤣 Entertainment 4/5. Amazing entertainment team.. wanted to watch the Blackbird show & it was cancelled without communication. There were plenty of other options at the other hotels if we’d known earlier that the show was cancelled. We wanted to watch the Spurs game (for our sins 🤣). Kick off was 8pm uk time, 3pm in Mexico. Despite the sports bar not opening until 4pm, Ramon & Oscar collectively ensured that the game was on the screen & advised us that we could get a drink in the lobby & bring it through! Would I return? Yes! I plan to bring my family for my 50th birthday very soon! 🤩

Great Stay, resort is huge
Overview We stayed at the resort for 3 weeks. We enjoy this place a lot — it’s huge, and there’s so much to explore. Our original plan was to walk around the entire complex, but I had a bad knee during the trip, so we ended up taking the shuttle everywhere. Thankfully, the transportation system is excellent, so getting around was still easy. Room Room 7502 was dated but clean. Unfortunately, we had a lot of mosquitoes/black flies inside — I ended up killing about four each day. I never opened the porch door and didn’t request room service, so I’m not sure how they were getting in. I paid for an upgrade from Superior to Premium, and it was absolutely worth it. Room 7502 was extremely dated, but the upgraded room (5213) was very modern and much nicer. We also noticed far fewer flies in the new room. Restaurants Buffets The buffet at Akumal is very good. They serve lobster tails on Fridays, and the fish dishes are flavorful without being overly salty like at some other resorts. Staying in Akumal gives you access to all buffets and à la carte restaurants across the entire complex. The best buffets are Tulum and Akumal. At Tulum, don’t miss the small crepe with berries — it’s fantastic. À la Carte Restaurants All the à la cartes have great presentation. Ku'uk – Beef tenderloin is very tender. Dulce Vida / Fruto del Mar – Salmon is very good. Katok Steakhouse – NY strip was chewy even at medium, and the half chicken was very dry. It’s outdoors, so there are tons of mosquitoes. Avoid. The Smoke – Just okay. Portions are small; I went to the buffet afterward. Portofino – Very good. Mashua – Avoid. Don Pablo – Great presentation. Tequila Restaurant – Very traditional Mexican dishes; worth trying once. Thali (Indian) – Avoid. Tortuga (Brazilian) – Definitely go. Maiko (Sian Ka’an) – Not good; avoid. Alux – Pretty good. The strawberry salad, French onion soup, beef fillet, and pistachio/chocolate blanco dessert were all excellent. Late-Night Options The late‑night restaurants are surprisingly good — burgers, hot dogs, donuts, chicken nuggets, and more, plus drinks. Resort & Amenities Excellent cart transportation system with multiple lines and plenty of carts. Wi‑Fi works well everywhere. Plenty of beach chairs; even on sunny days there were many available at noon. We loved our waiters, Jesus and Fanian, in Akumal during breakfast and lunch — they were fantastic. Entertainment There are different shows and performances throughout the week. The Silent Disco is great because staff lead each channel, so you never feel out of place. There’s also lots of dancing from 10–11 pm after the kids go to bed. We visited the Tequila resort once, and they host their specialty foam parties almost every day from 4–8 pm.

Not much good to say about this resort
Booked a junior superior suite and they upgraded to a swim out. Not sure of what I paid but I don’t think money wise it was an upgrade. We do love a good swim out so it was fine. Room is a renovated room and is fine. Swim out is only in sun in the morning and is so cold we aren’t really using it so kind of a waste. It is almost impossible to get Ala Carte reservations and the dinner buffet, well all buffets, are horrible. This alone has ruined the vacation. I guess the lower price point of the resort is why you get a lower level of service. The snack bars have some decent snack type foods and the couple of Ala Cartes I was able to beg/buy my way in have been pretty decent. Too bad you have to resort to that to get in. The pools are all freezing. There are few swim up bars and they aren’t in the sun. The layouts of the pool decks/chairs is odd. Like all other resorts there are not nearly enough chairs for everyone and no one enforces the holding of chairs all day with a pool towel. The beach is not a great alternative. If you love the beach do not come here. It is rocky and the sand itself is very course and full of rocks. There is little service provided around the pools and beach and the bars are under stocked and understaffed. Prepare to stand in line for anything all day long. There is little to do here at night. Cavernous sports bar, only labeled as such because there are tvs, is boring and closes early. If you like nightlife this resort is not for you. One of the worst things management here seems to not care about is providing change. Seriously, you get pesos out of the ATM, or bring pesos in higher denominations. They have nothing smaller than 100s or 200s. Ok then so instead of tipping many people 20 for a drink one or two randoms get 100 or 200. I figure they pool tips and everyone is taken care of at the end of the day but as the customer I feel like an idiot not tipping each time. Some of the staff are lovely and we have enjoyed meeting them-these interactions have made the stay bearable. Again though I can’t be throwing 100s around all day long. This vacation was planned by others and they chose the resort. Next time I will read the reviews and heed the warnings before booking and not end up booking a place like this again. When enough people tell you there are issues please believe them. As an aside we went to the Tequila section a few times and it is much more enjoyable as far as lobby bar/lobby area evening hanging out. So much more inviting! Sad it closes so early. This resort has the most up charge activities I have seen at an all inclusive. They have dinners and parties and other events that they charge extra for as well as menu items should you be so lucky to get a dinner reservation.

Nice holiday. The renovated rooms were a large improvement.
Resort was good and food was good. Music in all the bars particularly the Tulum bar was terrible. Beaches need a lot of work and more sand to make is easier to get in and out. Jorge and Fernando at the privilege beach bar were fantastic.

Winter Break
I stayed here for a week at the end of January. Originally had a standard room booked, however, we upgraded to a swim up room for £450 for the week, which was about half of what TUI were looking for. Check in is easy and made better with a glass of sparkling wine! The room was in building 51, so ideal for the main lobby. Very clean inside and the air con / ceiling fan worked well. The pool for the swim up was very cold, however, the weather when we visited wasn`t the best and I think that was probably the reason as the main pools / sea were also cold. Buffet was as good as ever, and special shout out to Manuel, who always provided a brilliant service at breakfast / lunch. Brilliant service around the pools / beach and we were always offered a drink which was brought directly to us. The trolley service around the resort is excellent and on several occasions we were offered a lift, even when not at one of the designated stopping points. Entertainment around the pools looked good and special mention to the Mariachi band who were watched twice and were brilliant on both occasions. All in all, I cant wait to return!
