This was a great way to see and experience the variety Costa Rica has to offer. I was nervous about booking on the internet but Robin at CheapCaribbean was extremely helpful and professional in answering my questions and verifying that everything was in order. Everything arranged through Vacaciones Barcelo went smoothly, all the transfers were on time and scheduled to make the most of our time there. The hotels were just as they were pictured on the websites, although our beach destination was changed from the advertised Ocotal Hotel to the Tamarindo Diria. Tamarindo was much more touristy than the original Ocotal but was a beautiful resort and a nice contrast to the other more remote locations.
Pretty much everything in this moderately complex itinerary worked out, and we got almost exactly what we had hoped for. This was not our first trip to Costa Rica, and we were again impressed by the kindness and consideration of the people there. It even caries over to the other guests.
It is important to remember that it can get cold and windy around the mountain rain forests as well as (very!) wet. So bring some warm layers as well as a lightweight rain poncho. Then, on the beach, the sun is so intense that any serious walking should be done between dawn and breakfast -- and maybe a little more shortly before dark. We love all the things we find out of doors, and it is nice that the Costa Ricans (and their guests) value this too.
The main problem was with the timing of our arrival. There weren't many flight options. In order to leave home at a civilized time (and place), we left LaGuardia (NYC) shortly after noon, changed at Miami, and arrived in Liberia just after dark. Consequently, all we saw on the way to Arenal (3+ hours) was by moonlight. We did make a pit stop on the way and had a simple, delicious local supper for $6. Our other meals, which we found within short walking distance except at Arenal, cost a little less than in NYC, and were all delicious. All three hotels were charming and included very satisfactory breakfasts, so we tended to skip lunch except when it was provided on our excursions (twice).
Two of our connections involved long drives over rough mountain roads, but the drivers were very skillful and conservative, and the views were wonderful.
An unexpected adreneline rush came on our way walking (2 km) to a volcano overlook, when our path was blocked by a very territorial bull, which pursuaded us to retreat. We directed a security car up to rescue several others who had ended up on the far side of the bull.
Flying home we were surprised and pleased to find ourselves in Business Class.

What should we be prepared for the forest adverture2 answers
Hi, I am wondering, what should we prepare for going into the forest?? For example, is there anything we need to be aware of for what to wear? Do we need to prepare medicine in case being instinct by insects? Do we need to have injection fro vaccine of specific disease??

You would want to bring clothing/shoes for hiking as well as hats, sunscreen and comfortable clothing. You may want to bring bug spray as well. You do not need any vaccines for this area. For more information yuo may visit, travel.state.gov or tripadvisor.com.
You may visit travel.state.gov for the most up to date information needed for travel to Costa Rica. Also, if you are concerned about certain medications you can speak with your physician for any questions.
We did bring insect repellent but did not really need it. Since it was the dry seasons bugs were not a problem. Good walking shoes and binoculars were a plus.
