Dunn's Review

Being that it was my first time staying at the resort, I enjoyed it very much. The staff and everyone was nice and helpful. I work within the field of business and I did see where improvements could be made. 1. Wifi: The Wifi service was extremely poor and failed time after time. If I was apart of the decision making team, that would be on the top 2 list of importance. We live in the internet age and people look to be connected at all times without second guessing the service. (Needs IMPROVING ASAP!!!) 2. Bed: The comfort of the bed wasn't on par with other Hilton partnered resorts that I've stayed in. People want a comfortable feeling when laying around on vacation or coming in from the beach. Especially if they're gonna be residing there for 7+ days. You have to give them an illustrious feeling when they're resting. Those are my 2 improvement recommendations for this resort. These 2 things will definitely have other people recommending your resort over others.

GREAT PEOPLE, BEAUTIFUL BEACH, NO KIDS!

I love a good vacation and the main thing I look for is the people and the beach. To my surprise, the food was amazing and full of flavor. JAMAICANS KNOW HOW TO COOK.I went on another all inclusive through this site and the food wasn't good, but we are not picky. It was our first time in Jamaica so we did not know what to expect. From the moment we arrived to our departure, EVERYTHING went perfectly. I highly recommend eating at the moon stone Italian restaurant and ask for Montgomery to be your waiter. He made us feel like royalty. By the way, beautiful snorkeling for $30 a person. Amazing fish and reefs. Can not even put into words the beauty of this resort and surroundings. You come here to chill. I was worried about what the water was going to look and weather how rocky it would be but it was totally crystal clear and smooth. Only negative part of this place would be the night life, but that is NOT the resort's fault. It's the type of people traveling here. It's mostly older people who drink all day and want to be in bed after dinner. We were the youngest couple in the resort and still had a blast with the drinks. You make your own night life, you are here to enjoy yourself and your partner's company. The resort had a loud side and a quiet side. If you have a problem with loud music, head to Jasper's Chillin' Piano Bar on the other side because all you can hear are the waves crashing and the jacuzzi bubbling away. No complaints about this place to be honest. NOT overcrowded at all. Honestly there's picky people in this world and in all honesty, come to this resort. The ride from the air port comes with beautiful coastal views for at least a half hour. Special shout out to Dwayne, Ryan, Reed, Uton, Andrew and Damitri. Thank you for teaching us about Jamaica and showing us how to party TREE BAR WAS INCREDIBLE!! COME TO THIS RESORT!.

Pre-Wedding Honeymoon

My fiancé and I decided to postpone our wedding. We knew being at home on the day we were supposed to get married would be tough, so we decided to go on our pre-wedding "honeymoon", so we couldn't be upset in an a beautiful place. The resort treated us as if we were on our real honeymoon, which was greatly appreciated. Travel from the airport to the hotel was provided for free from the airport. We stopped at other resorts and it took about two and a half hours... But Ocho Rios is a fair distance away from Monetgo Bay anyway. Our room was ready right away when we checked in and we got a tasty welcome drink. It took about 10 minutes for them to bring our bags up to the room. This was not a problem for me, but it would have been useful for the staff to show us around the resort during this time. Instead we just waited in our room. We had a view of the mountain. The view was beautiful from the bed, but essentially overlooked other buildings and a parking lot from the balcony. Meh, I didn't mind. The bathroom was my biggest issue with room. When sitting on the toilet, you are being stabbed in the arm by the toilet paper.... I'm not even a large person, so I can only imagine how someone that is overweight would fit. In addition, the toilet is right next to the toilet and there is very little room to put the towel down. Lastly, there was a sign that asked us to save water by putting our towels on the rack and using them more than once, but they always replaced our towels no matter where we put them. So much for saving the environment.... The closet was a huge walk-in closet. I would prefer to have a few more hangers in the closet though. The staff was so incredibly friendly! Uton and Cornell were my favorite bar tenders.... And the bar tender at the party pool (I can't remember his name because he did such a good job at keeping my drinks fully loaded). Kamika was my favorite server. Moonstone (the Italian restaurant) was average food. The Coral buffet was surprisingly great for all meals! Platinum (contemporary Carribbean cuisine) was my favorite for breakfast and dinner. Iris Cafe had amazing iced coffee (I can't speak for anything else because I really don't like coffee. My fiancé was a big fan of the blue mountain coffee). The Japanese restaurant had good vegetarian options for me (made tofu) and cooked it before everyone else had their meat, so It did not become contaminated. Thumbs up to that! The pizza place and grill were awesome! As a vegetarian, I was very impressed with all the options I was given. In fact, one night there was supposed to be a dinner under the stars on the pier, but it got rained out and moved us into Bling for dinner and a show. It was a 6 course meal and the head Chef came out and reassured me after nearly ever course that I was getting the vegetarian option. I have never had this personalized service at an all-inclusive resort before and it made me feel very welcome (and special). The beach was small, but I read about that before booking it. That being said there are plenty of beach seats and little huts or trees to find shade under if you need it. We were given a letter when we checked in that hey we're starting construction to extend the pier and that we may experience some construction on the beach. It was very minimal. I only remember two of he 7 days when the big truck went past. The water was a little cloudy from all the sand moving and there was still some seaweed at the beach. I don't mind the seaweed in the water because it preserves the natural environment, but a warning is helpful. Two ladies were stung by jellyfish at the resort and were treated by the nurse (they were totally fine in a few hours with no marks the next day. I didn't see any jellyfish or fish at he beach anywhere. The massage was awesome. Very relaxing, but a little clod in the room. The spa shower was freezing, not even worth rinsing off there, just go back to your room. I loved how easy it was to book excursions here. At other resorts, I feel overwhelmed by all the different vendors. This hotel has everything in one spot and you can book it so easily without being overwhelmed by just looking at a list. They even got us a deal where we could zip line and then bobsled for free at Mystic Mountain. It was awesome! We also did a catamaran that took us snorkeling, to the Dunn River Falls, and then turned into a booze cruise. I had so much fun!! I only did some of the nightly entertainment. I loved the crab races and the steel drum band. The house band was great, but performed every night and that got old quickly. Bling always played great music when it turned into the disco, but who wants to dance there by themselves? I can't blame the hotel for that, so make friends with the other guests, so that you can make it fun! I would totally go back to this resort. All of my issues (bathroom and beach) are things that are so small that I don't really care. I also loved that they had a mini-Olympic village set up to watch the Olympics!

Jewel Dunn's River Beach Resort and Spa

Drive from airport to hotel was a great sight seeing adventure. Of all the Jewel resorts we believe we got the best one! Well greeted by staff once we got off of bus (which by the way was complimentary). Busboys brought luggages up to room after we got checked in. I did my research and did not book any excursions until I got to the hotel and did that there. The hotel helps you and gives you good/better deals if you want to explore Jamaica. So if you plan on doing excursions, just wait til you get to the hotel. Nightly entertainment was superb! Every night there was either entertainment or a live band. We truly enjoyed the live music. We enjoyed this being an adult only resort and the size was not too big. The pools were clean and the bartenders and wait staff was attentive. The spa staff went around suggesting services and if you said no thank you, they continued on. They didnt hound you, but they were just doing their job! We loved how the pools were opened late and didnt close early for cleaning. They cleaned the pools super early in the morning so we could swim late at night when it was still hot outside. My husband could eat at the cafe outside near the pool everyday which served amazing jerk chicken, some jerk wraps and burger options as well. There was a pizza place that made great oven fired pizza which was great too. We ate there a few times. The food options in the restaurants could use a little more flair. But all in all it was ok and the rest of the resort made up for it. If you are looking for a "party hotel" this is not it. We enjoyed it because it was a good balance of fun and relaxing. We loved the non motorized water sports because we love to paddle board and kayak so those were included in the all inclusive. We were happy with our trip here.
