Great hotel - but disappointing golf holiday

I'll start with the positives - this was a return trip for us to this hotel and complex and we have always enjoyed our stays. Our room was certainly showing it's age, but very roomy and was well kept by housekeeping with no issues. We mostly dined in the non-reservation restaurants and had consistently good meals and service (Greek and Seafood were our favourites). Sports Bar was worth checking out for a drink and/or quick bite - super busy during NFL games. The Pizza corner and taco place at the shopping centre were our go-to for mid-day light meals. We never had problems finding loungers at the pool or beach but can see where it would be an issue during peak travel periods. For the hotel itself, I would have given a 5 star rating... but .... The big disappointment for us on this trip was the golf course, as we come to this complex primarily for a golf holiday. The course has become very popular with large groups who have been given priority booking. That means golfers like ourselves who come for a golf holiday in the winter months no longer have access to morning tee times. To make matters worse, we still pay the same 5 round price as we would to play in peak hours, but relegated to twilight only hours. As much as we have enjoyed our past Iberostar Paraiso golf holidays, this was sadly the last as golfing only in twilight is just not an option.

Best steaks in the resort and awesome service

We had the ribeye and petite filet for our mains and it’s the best steaks we’ve had in our stay at the resort. The food and service were so great that we went back again just before we left. Our server Irving was excellent. He tended to our every need and we left very satisfied and happy. Ask for our friend Irving to serve you and you’ll be taken care of. Thank you again Irving for an exceptional service.

lovely hotel - food is excellent, wine needs improvement

The hotel itself is beautiful. The grounds are lovely and jungle and lush. you have many different types of animals and birds flying and walking around the resort. staff are friendly with no language barriers. There are multiple parts to the hotel. there is also a mall with some shops in them as well as a carosel and playstructure for The kids. A Golf course, a water park which you need to be four feet tall to go on the slides. there is a lazy river which we recommend you bring your own floaties for. the beach is beautiful white sand not rocky water is lovely. also at the beach are bathrooms, a bar and a snack bar. all pools, including the beach, have poolside service. servers will come and take your drink order. food does seem to be allowed by the pool. But because of all the creatures roaming around the resort, you need to dispose of it pretty quick. Our room was perfectly adequate. Nothing special about it. you don't receive much in your room accept for shampoo conditioner and soap. the resort offers glass water bottles in your room to refill with distilled water stations. each block of rooms have their own concierge, which is really nice. They can be very helpful, especially when booking restaurants that require reservations. most of the a la carte restaurants are first come first serve, but there are 3-4 restaurants that require reservations. the greek restaurant wasnt good. the japanese teppanyaki was very good. the french restaurant also decent. the Italian restaurant on the Del Mar side of the resort was very, very good. the seafood restaurant on the lindo side was also good. the general buffet on the Lindo side was very very good. on ine of the nights there were grilled lobster tails. if you enjoy seafood, the buffet did have shrimp mussels sushi rolls, clams, octopus. the main lobby bar actually had a bartender who made cocktails. Such as old fashioneds and negronis and espresso martinis. the resort also has an app which we highly recommend you download. just be careful when booking restaurant reservations, they will charge you 250 pesos if you cancel your reservation after 2pm and if you don't show up. the silver shops at the resort are lovely. They carry a lot of nice jewelry. But make sure you haggle with them. Their markup is already 200%...get them down as low as you can! the wine at the resort could definitely be better. at times tequila shots were also watered down. this is always unfortunate when it comes to resorts. which is why I gave the resort a four out of five. food definitely gets five stars. They do a great job with the food. I was always happy with my daily meals. alcohol could be better, especially the wine. in terms of the entertainment, it was actually pretty good. this resort also caters mostly to children. and finally, the coffee shop on site is great. The different types of coffees you could get were fantastic. also, we highly encourage you to tip, half of us tipped in pesos. The other half tipped in American dollars even though we are canadian.

Fantastic vacation with friends and family

I wanted to be sure to write this review after our trip as there are deceiving reviews out there. If you're on a trip to have fun, feel clean/safe and be in a nice relaxed environment, this is the place for you. We were a group of 3 families with 6 kids total ranging from ages 3-7 and I could not have been happier with our experience. We were in building 55 which was perfect as we were right beside the buffet and evening shows as well as the waterslides and wave pool. Our kids had a blast at the splash pad and on the slides. The atmosphere around the pool and beach was fun yet relaxed. There are enough pools and spots around the main pool to find a quieter spot, if you need. Although we were close to the shows and we could hear them from our balcony, the room was well-insulated and the noise was not a problem at all with the doors closed. Our room was clean and housekeeping did a great job throughout the week. We even had complimentary chocolate covered strawberries delivered to our door unexpectedly at one point, likely because they noticed the decorations we put in our room for our daughter's 3rd birthday. On that note, we did not purchase a birthday package but the staff did sing happy birthday at the restaurant as well as prepare a personalized dessert for my daughter, so she was ecstatic. Speaking of the food the main buffet was great and always fully stocked. The Japanese restaurant was the best restaurant we tried out of the 4 a la carte ones that we went to. The gym for adults is big and clean. Lots of equipment available. Star Camp was right beside there for the kids if you wanted to let them play for an hour or more while the parents take in another activity. One thing we noticed constantly was the cleanliness of the pool and beach area. There was never any garbage laying around, the pools and fountains were being cleaned daily and any mess that someone made appeared to be dealt with right away. Overall We are very happy with our choice to go to Iberostar Selection Paraiso Lindo. We couldn't have asked for any more than what we got at that price point.

Another great week at the Lindo

We are 2 seniors, part of large family group (14 adults, 3 children). We and some others in our party were upgraded at check-in to larger renovated rooms in building 51 at no extra charge. Our room was very nice although there were a lot of decorative frills or unusual design elements at the expense of places to open luggage or store things. The front door deadbolt was broken but everything else in the room worked ok. Some problems were encountered at the buffet and Greek restaurant. Burgers on American night at the buffet were cold/raw inside. Handling of food allergies at Greek restaurant was very poor (all types of skewers arrived at table hanging on a rack and touching each other). We were please to get seating for our large group at the buffet several times and at 3 of the a-la-carte restaurants too. Disappointed there is no longer a breakfast buffet available at the far end of the pool area as there had been in the past. Disappointed that the fish tank in the lobby bar has not been well maintained. It is very dirty/cloudy now and there seems to be far fewer fish than in the past. The grounds of the property are beautifully maintained as are the buildings themselves. Coatis at the beach, in the pool area and in the atriums of all buildings seem to be larger in number and more assertive in food-seeking behaviour than in past visits. Our trip home, however, was a nightmare. WestJet cancelled our flights not once but twice which meant we endured a long uncomfortable wait in the airport and got home 27 hours later than originally scheduled.
