5th Time in Iberostar resorts
This was our 3rd visit to Hacienda Dominicus. Also been to Bavaro in PuntaCana and in Cozamel. Hacienda Dominicus is best for us by far. All the staff are friendly & remember us (only top managers are different each time). Dive staff were excellent but also new except for our old friends the boat captains and support staff. Beef in all restaurants was tough, but pork was always tender and seasoned well.
Fish was always very fresh and prepared well.
The grounds are well-maintained & flowers were beautiful. Beach & pool areas always clean and lovely.
Much rain during our trip but few mosquitos as they sprayed grounds frequently.
Our only complaint was the last 2 days of trip we had a hard time getting our room cleaned before 5:30pm and staff was of little help when we needed to call for a departure time for the car that was taking us to the Santo Domingo airport. They charged us $1 US to call the tour company for confirmation. Our cell phone didn't work down there.
Gotta admit the male peacocks do make a lot of noise early in the am; we were staying in building 7 near the dive center as we requested so it wasn't too bad. Love feeding the ducks. They need to replace the missing swan as the remaining one seemed very sad also they need at least a 2nd flamingo.
Our rep @Cheap Caribbean was fabulous, he got us the room we wanted, the best flights, yay Jason
The resort was wonderful and was better than expected. The staff was friendly and helpful. The food and beverage was excellent. The room was comfortable and set-up with a free mini bar which was replenished every day.
I would probably fly into La Romana (half an hour) than take the one and half hour cab ride from Santo Domingo. The new new road, when completed, will shorten that trip.

Best girls vacation ever!
Before I begin telling you what a wonderful time we had at the Iberostar Hacienda Dominicus, please let me say we will never again travel Spirit Airlines to get there! If we had known about their service before we booked our vacation, Iwe would have chosen just about any other option to get there! We were almost hysterical when the flight leaving home was cancelled at the last minute for maintenance issues without any forthought about what to do with an entire airplance full of customers trying to leave town! Four hours later we were on our round about way via Delta Airline but we lost an entire day at the resort and had to spend a night in Ft. Lauderdale under a tornado watch!
As horrible our experience with Spirit, the Iberostar Hacienda Dominicus completely justified the vacation! From the inviting cold fruity drinks given to the three of us at the front desk as we checked in a day late, to the efficient staff wisking us away to a room within minutes despite not knowing we were on our way and helping us set up an extra bed immediately so we could finally rest our travel weary selfs - we knew we had made the right choice of where to stay.
The grounds are lovely and impeccably maintained. The pools are clean, warm and inviting. The beach was absolutely lovely. The restaurants are well stocked and the food available to us constantly was delicious and fresh with a good variety of tastes daily and lots of fresh international as well as local cuisines. There were tons of resort activities for everyone to participate in if they chose, excursions to book if you wanted to go off sight (totally enjoyed the catamaran excursion!), lounge chairs all around the pool and beach for those of us who wanted to relax in the sun, drinks available at every turn (don't miss the mamajuana!), tons of evening entertainment and a fun little discoteque...
The only advice I have would be - bring SPF100 (the sun is seriously hot to midwestern skin), either speak a little Spanish or bring a pocket translator (as the resort staff often speak languages other than English but not good English although they try their best), be careful taking any children to the evening performances as they tend to be a bit risque, and be tolerant of smoking as the resort has many European clientel who are not restricted as to where they can smoke.
Overall, we enjoyed it all immensely. We appreciated the attentive staff and were sorry to have lost that extra day we were supposed to have been there when we had to leave!

How do I go about reserving the specialty restaurants?5 answers
I wanted to know how I could get into the gourmet restaurants. I don't mind buffets, but we'd like to have a really nice dinner during our stay. Thanks!

That's a great question! The gourmet ala carte restaurants (El Colonial, La Geisha, and La Hacienda) fill up very quickly, so it's best to make the arrangements as soon as possible. The Concierge is located in either building 4 or 7 and they are usually there from 8:15am-2pm, however, this does vary. It's best to check with the front desk upon check-in to get the most up-to date schedule.
The restaurants are a must, the food is amazing!

there are 4 specialty restaurants, you can book them the next morning after you get to the hotel, they can give you times and days for all four of them there.
lillytom
You can make up to 3 reservations in advance for either restaurants.Reservations are accepted until early afternoon(I don't remember exactly what time!)you can always check with reception.
BeMaShOm
You are able to make 3 reserevations for the specialty restaurants when you arrive at the property.
funtimesun
There is a conceirge in each building or you can call Guest Services to arrange reservations to each of the 4 specialty restaurants. Do that as soon after you arrive as you can as they only have a few sittings per night. The Colonial is very nice, we had lobster. The Mexican is ok, different than what we have in Arizona but good not too spicy. The Japanese is very HOT, they cook everything in front of you and it can get really steamy in there! The steakhouse is ok but we found steaks very tough but the rest of the meal was good, there are options on the menu to steak which I recommend.

This resort is located and hour and a half from SDQ airport.

The LaRomana airport is about 20 minutes away by car. We flew into Santo Domingo which is 2 1/2 hours away. Nice ride though, you get to see the country side and road is good. Drivers usually speak enough English to give you a history of the area and answer questions you may have.

Hotel Description
Iberostar Hacienda Dominicus: You May Never Go Home Again
Warning: vacations at Iberostar Hacienda Dominicus have been known to cause extreme relaxation and happiness. Rated #1 among the 11 resorts in Bayahibe, Iberostar Hacienda Dominicus features warm sandy beaches on the lush Dominican Republic's tropical southern coast.
Winner of a TripAdvisor's 2011 Traveler's Choice Award, Iberostar Hacienda Dominicus gives scuba divers and snorkelers some of the best diving and equipment access in the Dominican Republic. The onsite Dressel Divers International Diving Center has several excursions a day, seven days a week, to multiple diving locations. Scooped up directly from Hacienda Dominicus' beach, guests can schedule dives to Catalina Island's famous "Wall." The Aquarium, another nearby hotspot, offers an astonishing formation of coral brimming with life. Between dives, sample the buffet and beverages at the bar on the private beaches of Catalina. Offering 15 different dive sites on reefs no more than 20 minutes from Hacienda Dominicus, Dressel guarantees you won't dive the same reef twice, except by choice.
Guests of Hacienda Dominicus, who want to spend their time closer to shore, love the pristine beach generously populated with shady, thatched huts. Or if temperature-controlled wading is more to your liking, try one of the resort's three pools. The main pool is shaped like a lagoon and has an island garden and a raised, 20-person, cool-water spa. One end slopes into the shallow, toddler's section. The quiet pool is adjacent to the lagoon, and a nearby rectangular pool is where you'll find water games and activities.
Active land lovers enjoy the hotel's volleyball and tennis courts, as well as the fitness center. Replenish those lost electrolytes with all inclusive beverages at El Faro Beach Bar, a lighthouse-shaped bar right on the beach. Or visit the main pool's swim-up bar, and cool off while you cool down. Then grab a carb-loaded power snack at El Ingenio's international lunch buffet before beginning your afternoon of intense relaxation. When night falls, dance till your legs wobble at the nearby disco, and grab a quick nap before beginning all over again in the morning.
