Disappointing stay at Grand Bahia Principe Tulum

This was the 4th year my wife and I booked a Riviera Maya all-inclusive one week vacation with Cheapcaribbean.com. First we stayed at the Occidental, then Iberostar Quetzal, in 2016 we stayed at the Grand Bahia Principe Coba and loved it...just as we loved our two previous trips. This year we decided to pay more to stay at the Grand Bahia Principe Tulum side because it is closer to the beach than the Coba side of the resort. We even brought our 17 year old son with us for the first time. I'll start with the positives: the beach, pools and resort are beautiful and we had perfect weather again. The food, restaurant staff, drinks, bartenders, entertainment and activity staff are all top notch. Now the list of negatives: Our 3 previous vacations we got a FREE safe in our room; this year they wanted to charge us. All previous stays we had a bottle of tequila and fruit on the table when we arrived, NOT this time. All previous stays we had cute new hand towel animals on the bed each day, this time NEVER. When we got to our room it was about 40% smaller than the room we had the previous year & the bathroom was half the size. We banged our knees and legs on the sink getting out of the tub/shower. The toilet ran the entire time. I had to unplug the alarm clock because it was broken and hummed. The electrical outlet cover and screw fell off the wall in the bathroom. The balcony light never worked and the sliding door had a handmade screwed on lock that was hard to use because the original lock was broken. Their idea of 2 beds was pushing 2 twin beds together where a king could have been. Our son couldn't sleep on the hard couch, so we pushed the 2 small beds apart a few feet. There was a large panel hanging off the wall exposing wires behind the bed. My wife and I had trouble sleeping on the small bed the entire week. We had to call room service twice to ask to have our refrigerator restocked with water, beer and soda (it was not done). Other rooms were getting chips and cookies (as we had gotten our 3 previous years), but even after calling room service and asking for chips and snacks we NEVER got any. I had to call one night because we were out of toilet paper! I complained about the room size and beds twice and never got an option offered to fix the situation. On Sunday April 16 we all left the room before 9am and shut the door which stays locked. At one point I walked to the room from the beach to get more sunscreen, our door was wide open and a male maid was in the bathroom cleaning the shower with water running and his back to me. I was in the room 30 seconds and I left and the maid never saw me. We returned before 5pm because we had a dinner reservation, the door was shut and locked. When I walked to my luggage I noticed my Go-Pro waterproof camera case was on top of my clothes, it was open and the case was crooked and almost broken, and the camera was gone. I had left the Go-Pro in the waterproof case in the back of my luggage under clothes. It was gone and I called the front desk to report it stolen. A customer service woman (Grecia) a security guard and the chief of security all arrived within 15 minutes. I have been a police officer for 22+ years; and they treated my wife and I like the criminals (not the victims) and they searched all of our luggage, my wife's purse, our dirty laundry, the bed, the closet, the dresser drawers and the bathroom. Grecia said she would do her investigation and submit a final report. The next day I asked for an update and was told by a customer service guy that the camera was probably still in my room, this upset me. I asked him if I could get compensation for the camera: maybe some free dolphin show passes or a free massage in the spa for my wife- he said he couldn't do that. Late on our last night a woman called from the resort and said they were not at fault. I told her just as I had told Grecia that our room was shut and locked! I asked for compensation- and I was told no. I asked Grecia and the front desk for something to compensate me, and was told they couldn't do that. My Go-Pro camera was brand new and purchased for this trip and only used once that Friday. Our last evening we returned to our room and the room key cards did not work. I had to walk 10 minutes to the lobby to get new room keys, due to their error programming the keys incorrectly when we checked in....this made us 20 minutes late for our dinner reservation. Final note: our villa #27 was right next to a sewer pump station and it smelled like sewer every time we went in and out of our room! We paid more ($70 per person) at time of booking to stay on the Tulum side instead of the Coba side and we got MUCH LESS! We will never stay at a Grand Bahia Principe property again. Their security and room staff are incompetent and poorly trained. I still love Cheapcaribbean and the Riviera Maya. I have never asked or expected anything free in my life; I just wanted the resort to compensate me for my Go-Pro due to their staff either leaving our room open or possibly taking my camera.

you pay for what you get in life..NOT FOR 20-30 yo

I paid $1200.00 USD for 7 days, the week of april vacation. but (ended up being realy 5 days due to the flight / transportation taking over 10 hours each way(coming from boston). i know its not the resorts fault but it just sucks. there is practically no beach, and it was all seaweed and rocks, some of the bartenders services werent the greatest, and i am someone who tips on every other drink, and or if we do rounds of shots ect. i also paid and extra $75.00 to upgrade to a junior suit with a " jacuzzi" and it was a regular room with just 4 jets in the same sized bath tub.(even tho the online pictures showed it could fit two people.) the liquor is all bottom shelf and the only beer offered was dos equis. (sometimes warm) . I'm 27 years old and although i knew this wasn't going to be a party resort, but i wish they offered somewhat of a "louder scene" besides the actual DISCO nightclub where people such as myself woulf rather hang out so as to NOT disturb children and the elderly with "offensive actions". I will say that Julio ( the bartender at the swim up pool bar) was the best. very pleasant, and did the work of 3 men most times. Swimming with the dolphins was also nice, a little expensive for 1 hour but the trainers are super nice and informative.
