Great Time at the Oasis Villa and Resort

We spent 6 nights at the Oasis Villa. We had a fantastic time. Based on some comments I read, I was concerned about the villas being worn down and the hotel being dated. While the hotel is on the older side, it didn't negatively impact our stay. PROS: -- The room! It was spacious, modern, and always kept clean. The bathroom is enormous and we loved the double head in the shower. The plunge pool was clean and a great way to get away from the sun. The pool was mostly in the shade but the water was a perfect temperature. We found ourselves using it a few times a day after a massage or after hanging out at the beach. -- The Spa. One of the benefits on the villa is unlimited massages and we took full advantage of them. I'm nerdy and did the math... to justify the cost of the room you have to average ~2 massages per day. We certainty did that on most days. The hot stone massage was my favorite. My wife enjoyed the bamboo one. -- The service and staff. Extremely accommodating and very friendly. -- It was offseason. The resort was pretty empty and we loved that. Never had any issues making reservations or grabbing loungers on the beach. We were not there for the nightlife so didn't care that there weren't many people at the bar or piano bar late at night. We'll aim to go in August again next year. CONS: -- Hot water in the villas. The water in shower got lukewarm at best. -- The food. It wasn't bad, but nothing great. We ate at all restaurants and thought Bayside was just ok. Eight Rives was better. The buffets were fine. The best part about the food was probably the room service -- not so much because of the quality, but the convenience of eating in your room A FEW RECCOS: -- Bring tip money. We tipped at the bar and at the spa. Don't know if it impacted our service, but we had great service throughout the week. -- Don't be afraid to ask. The staff is extremely accommodating. There is a good chance your request will be met. -- Skip out on the catamaran cruise. It was just ok. You have to take a shuttle to a near by beach and it turned out to be an ordinary boat ride. The boat takes you around the bay for 15min, then anchors while you swim for 20min, and then does one more loop before dropping you off at the bus again. Not terrible, just nothing special. -- Do the night snorkel. It's an extra cost ($100/person) but you get to see a lot more than the day snorkel. We saw turtles, sting rays, puffer fish. We spoke with people who did the day snorkel and said they didn't see anything other than colorful fish. A long winded way of saying we'll definitely be back and I highly recommend the resort. If you can swing it, get a villa - you won't regret it.

Not terrible but not the greatest

I wish others were a bit more honest in their reviews because it’s not a 4.5/5 star resort. CTI is very outdated. Our room was super small (ocean view, so not the lowest level), the layout of the room is odd, and our air conditioning barely worked the entire trip. We complained to the front desk about this on our first day and nothing ever happened. The day entertainment is very lack luster and there are def some staff who act like they don’t want to be there. Also, beach chairs are not hard to get, but there is barely any shade (no umbrellas) and the chairs are so close together. You’re like literally on top of other people. On the good side the food was great every day/night, and many of the bartenders were super nice. Overall, I realize this was one of the first resorts in Jamaica so there’s a lot of history, but updates are severely needed for me to return.

Has it all - fun activities and entertainment to relaxing chill and spa

If you are celebrating your wedding anniversary, engagement, or simply looking for a romantic getaway – this is your spot! I loved so many things about this resort that I could rave about it forever. Yet here it is in a nutshell. These three elements made my stay unforgettable – food, entertainment activities/ events and staff! You could chill at the swim-up bar all day. Or, like me, an ambitious learner, -- take pickleball, yoga, volleyball, tennis, sailing, painting, or dance classes. Evening shows were outstanding: barrel drums, reggae dance, jazz & singing, fire show, Caribbean dance mix, karaoke, sing along at the piano bar. Fun! Fun! Fun! Classy with hints of Jamaican authentic wild spirit. Golf course is nearby, too. Transportation and Greens fees are complimentary. Cart, caddy, club rental is at an additional cost. I also enjoyed snorkeling, scuba diving, and sunset sailing cruise. Scuba equipment is included except for a body suit. Bring your own goggles. Must book ahead of time – I made my weekly schedule for the dinner reservations and limited seating activities on the day of arrival. I stayed at the resort most of the week this time around Jamaica, yet I recommend booking the Dunns River falls tour while you are there. Horseback riding could be fun, too. Shopping trip into town is possible – be prepared to be sold by everyone – it is a part of the reality here – don’t take it personally. Good news, prices are negotiable. Food was absolutely delicious. I would come back here just for the food experience. Yet, I must say I have a very eclectic palette and enjoyed dishes that most will find too exotic like, escargot, lamb chops, oxtail, curry goat and other classic Jamaican dishes. Don’t worry they also have plenty of “regular” delicious dishes, too! Option to trade places with a sister resort is available. My new friends that I made here told me that it was worth exploring - giving it a different flavor to their stay. Finally, the staff goes out of their way to ensure we all have the most enjoyable time. They are entertaining, helpful, funny, super friendly, and professional. Coffee shop lady, even though 8 months pregnant, put so much love and attention into making each cup to ensure it's perfect, no matter how busy it was. SPA hot stone 90 min massage treatment put me on cloud 9. Talented entertainment Team delighted us with their wit, incredible voices, and brought a fun spirit to every moment! Beach area is private and secluded with no vendors – I loved that! Water is crystal clear. Nude island is 2 min boat ride away. Sunsets are stunning.

Very pleasant hotel with great service

Stayed here for seven nights in mid-January and have to say the place really grew on me and I would recommend, despite a number of shortfalls. It is a good two-hour drive from Kingston airport but the complimentary hotel transfer was seamless enough in a small mini bus, complete with decent reggae music along the way! Arriving late at night meant the introduction to the services wasn’t as great as I’d expect but they do offer a daily ‘orientation’ tour at 10am which is great to get you familiar with everywhere in the large complex. Our room was on the fourth floor and down the side of the property. At first this felt a little ‘cut off’ but actually was really nice - there were still good ocean views from the balcony but it came with no noise from the pools or evening activities so was totally relaxing. It was a shame that the mini bar was empty on arrival, with no instructions on how to get it stocked, and indeed there was no guide to any of the services or facilities, so the morning orientation session is a must! It was annoying there were no light switches next to the bed so you need to navigate from the door in the dark, not helped by the fact the bedside lamp was badly broken; some maintenance and touch-up in the room wouldn’t go amiss. It was also frustrating that the shower had really weak power and, while great at always returning throughout the day, housekeeping were very random with what they did - sometimes exchanging four towels for two, large with small etc. However the main the room was great - really large and spacious, wonderful balcony with seating, effective air-conditioning and ceiling fan, loads of storage space, huge comfortable bed and everywhere really clean. Eventually we found there was a website where you could request the mini-bar to be stocked, as well as make restaurant reservations which was really handy; just a shame it wasn’t advertised better! The variety of restaurants is great, although most require a reservation to be made. The buffet restaurant had small changes each day to try prevent it becoming repetitive and the food quality across them all was generally good. The various bars throughout the complex are fantastic - great staff, a huge menu and both premium and local spirits available. There’s a couple of pools and both felt a little dirty as the day went on. There’s also no umbrellas for any of the loungers, so if you’re not a sun lover you need to be careful securing one of the few options in the shade, but otherwise there’s some good comfortable seating available. The swim-up bar is a real gem with wonderful service and a good amount of seating for the size of the pool. There’s plenty of free activities on offer including various water sports. The glass bottom-boat trip was a nice highlight, giving a good overview of the local area as well as the sea life. Each day there’s also some form of activity on the beach or by the pools, but fortunately none of it is too intrusive and there’s never pressure to join in if you don’t want. Overall if was a great hotel for a week of relaxation and I’d certainly consider staying again!
