Wish you could take a break from it all? Well it's time to let go of your
stress and head towards the sandy shore of the beachfront Barcelo Puerto
Vallarta. This all-inclusive resort, located between a tropical jungle and the
Pacific, offers sublime views only 15 minutes from downtown Puerto Vallarta;
close enough to see the sights, but far enough that the crowds won't stress you
out! The resort's stretch of beautiful Mismaloya Beach was the location for the
famous Richard Burton film, Night of the Iguana, and is an all-time favorite
for families thanks to the gentle waves.

Awesome Trip!
The Barcelo was absolutely amazing! As good as the pictures! The rooms were incredible and very clean. The pool area was great with plenty of chairs. The only complaint I would have is the sand on the beach area was really rough. Almost impossible to walk on with bare feet. The food in the buffet was fresh and very tasty. Jose, the waiter, was great and had plenty of drink "specials." Try the Welcome to the Jungle! We had our wedding at the resort and it was perfect! Everything I could have asked for was taken care of! I can't wait to go back!
I recently stayed at the Puerto Vallarta Barcelo resort. I wanted to try something different because I usually stay at the Rui Resorts.Pros is it is a beautiful resort. It is clean and the drinks are strong. Cons: Don't plan on snokeling on site. They will take you to a place for $35. There were two old looking kayakas and no one used them while we were there. The evening entertainment and the food was not that great. Not much food selection. Children are allowed in the pool with the bar even though they have their own pool. I didn't think children should see how stupid some adults act when they drink to much. Take insect repellent. There are little bitting bugs. We were suppose to get two nights in the speciality restaurants. However, the only choice available was the steak restaurant. We got one night because nothing was available for the rest of our stay. We ordered rib eye and they brought us something that was flat and looked like flank steak. It was very fatting tasting so one bite was it for me. However, their desert was good. I reserved a room with two double beds and got one with a king size bed because there were no double bed rooms available. Which I didn't understand. The hotel knew we were coming and had reserved and payed for a certian type of room. I won't be booking at any more Barcelo Resorts. I am going back to booking with the Rui Hotels. Matter of fact , I'm going to stay at the Rui in Costa Rica in a few weeks.
We love this hotel the only thing I would improve on is enforcing the adult only pool, it was impossible to get a drink at the pool bar because there were kids everywhere ans we were on a adults vacation so that was quite annoying , also the steak house restaurant wasn't very good but all the other food is wonderful ! This was our second time there and would go back again in the future but would love to see those two items fixed
I payed $240 for the premium package. Another couple that went at the same time as us did not. The service my wife and I received was no different then the other couples. We were told that we would be able to book reservations at the restaurants in the hotel. We attempted to book the reservations the first night but were told everything was booked up except for on Sunday where only one of the restaurants was open. When we attended that reservation the service we received was horrible and the food wasn't any better. The food in the buffet was much better. Overall I believe that my wife and I would choose somewhere else to stay when we visit Puerto Vallerta again.

Is it only "all-inclusive" at Barcelo Mismaloya?,. With all the gourmet restaurants close to the downtown, and even the palapa restsurants next door, I'd prefer it not "all inclusive".

The Barcelo is sold strictly as an All Inclusive resort. You can absolutely travel off property, however all of your meals and beverages are included in the pricing for this resort. There are a number of other resorts in the area, however, which are not All Inclusive. These can be found by using the gold "Create Your Own Vacation" box, selecting your dates of travel, departure city, and "No Meals" under the Meal Plan option.
KateCC
They do offer the all-inclusive as extra. But I would totally recommend the all-inclusive plan. Amazing food from 4 different choices (plus an extra for snacks), and downtown is about a 30-35 min drive.
Tiggerburg
I believe other hotels/resorts offer all-inclusive packages as well. If you choose to stay at Barcelo, I don't think you have to choose the all-inclusive package.
Barroness
No, it is not only all inclusive all the Barcelo Mismaloya. We did the all inclusive, but they had pricing available for those who did not purchase the all inclusive package. In fact, I believe that is why they limit the a la carte restaurant reservations for the all inclusive folks. I thought the prices were a bit steep though! For example, I believe I remember seeing the buffet price once at around $30 U.S...I just know I remember thinking the all inclusive was definitely worth it.
Martinst
yes it is only all inclusive
sunburned
Any Barcelo provides no inclusive if you ask for it.
spokoDTW
Yes, it is all-inclusive only. ...and the food is great. PLUS... It's at least a 15-20 drive (each way) to downtown. If you want to spend most of your time in the Romantic District (as we have in the past and had a GREAT time), then you'll want to choose a hotel in that area. It wouldn't be fun going back and forth!

My experience with All-Inclusive food has typically been daily buffets with some specialty restaurants with restrictions limiting their use or closed because of the time of year. What are the dining options for this 4 day All-Inclusive package?
Keith
This resort has 2 buffet resturants and 3 a la carte resturants. This resort offers 1 a la carte dinner per 2-3 night stays, 2 a la carte dinners for 4-6 night stays and 3 a la carte dinners for stays of 7 nights.
CaitlinCC
They advertise two with a four night stay. But don't plan on getting what you want or when you want it. I had the 4 night package and only got one speciality restaurant , because nothing was available the rest of my stay. I advised you reserved though the hotel before you go.

Can one walk into PV from the hotel?4 answers
Is town walkable, if not, how much is a cab ride in U.S. dollars? Also can men wear dress shorts with a shirt into the ala carte restaurants?
LA, California
This resort is located outside of the Puerto Vallarta Hotel Zone; therefore, a little too far to walk. The resort will be more than happy to assist in arranging a cab to take you in to town if you wish to explore--you would have to discuss the fare with the cab driver (although, the front desk might be able to give you a rough idea). We recommend business casual for the a la carte restaurants.
LaurenCC
No
WELOVEPUERTOVALLARTA
No you can't walk there. Not sure how much a cab ride is. They write on your reservation card no shorts, but I saw men in the speciality restaurants wearing cargo shorts.
JDMarley
Downtown PV is too far to walk. It is about a 20-25 minute cab ride, or you can take the bus for 60 pesos.

Barcelo Puerto Vallarta: Enjoy All Inclusive Family Fun on Beautiful
Mismaloya Beach
Wish you could take a break from it all? Well it's time to let go of your
stress and head towards the sandy shore of the beachfront Barcelo Puerto
Vallarta. This all-inclusive resort, located between a tropical jungle and the
Pacific, offers sublime views only 15 minutes from downtown Puerto Vallarta;
close enough to see the sights, but far enough that the crowds won't stress you
out! The resort's stretch of beautiful Mismaloya Beach was the location for the
famous Richard Burton film, Night of the Iguana, and is an all-time favorite
for families thanks to the gentle waves.
Spend your day lounging on the beach while the kids build sandcastles or
spend time at each of the four, lushly landscaped pools, complete with
waterfalls, for a jungle experience. Need quiet time? The two Jacuzzis are for
adult-only! When you can't ignore the delicious smells any longer, tackle the
five dining options. Thick cuts of steak with a Mexican twist are the rage at
Los Arcos, and kids enjoy the authentic Spanish tapas at Don Quijote. Catch a
dance show after dinner, courtesy of the entertainment team, or belt your lungs
out at karaoke. If you just want to get down and party, try La Cantina Bar
where you can get the party started off right with savory tequila shots.
Don't party too hard, though, or you'll sleep through the Barcelo Puerto
Vallarta all inclusive perks: kayaking, snorkeling or a game of water
volleyball. Kids get to have their fun, too, at Barcy Mini Club where balloon
fights, pinatas and treasure hunts keep them active, while you master Spanish
verbs or take a salsa class. Since the jungle is so close, think about the
zip-line excursions through the canopy for a thrilling adventure. Want
something slower? Barcelo's U spa has a passion-fruit wrap that leaves your
skin feeling hydrated and fresh.
Contemporary comfort is the name of the game in the 316, tastefully
decorated suites. Marble showers and fully stocked mini bars give couples a
relaxing way to end the night in the Junior Suite Deluxe. Need room for the
family? We recommend the two-bedroom Family Suite Deluxe for sleeping in
style.
