Jamaica is an all-time favorite destination that easily offers fun in the sun, no matter when you visit. In fact, we’re pretty sure it’s impossible to run out of things to do in Jamaica. This unique, lovely island is full of 24/7 fun for families and adults-only parties alike. Cramming all the top experiences into just four days wasn’t easy, but we’ve done it just for you, bestie. Follow this 4-day Jamaican itinerary to find some of the best experiences this island has to offer.
Day 1: A Beachy Day in Montego Bay
On the first full day of your dream trip to Jamaica, you’re starting out in Montego Bay. There’s so much to see and do here; and with 4 days to fill, you’ll want to focus on the very best Jamaican vacay experiences.
We recommend staying at the Bahia Principe Luxury Runaway Bay or the Riu Montego Bay for top-notch accommodations for every type of traveler.
If you’re booking a bae-cation and want a romantic atmosphere, check out Secrets St. James for a swanky, adults-only resort experience.
Resorts will have breakfast covered, but you can also find many delicious breakfast spots in town, like Juici Patties or Frida Kafe. You’re sure to find a local restaurant that sparks your appetite.
Once you’re well-fed, it’s time to visit one of Jamaica’s world-famous white sand beaches. Doctor’s Cave Beach is one of the most famous and beautiful spots the island has to offer1. You and the fam can enjoy snorkeling, swimming and sunbathing before digging into a delicious meal or snack. At Doctor’s Cave Reef, you’ll spot hundreds of different species while snorkeling, making this a top stop for the eco enthusiasts among you.
Start the evening right at the Hip Strip, where there’s always something going on. You’ll find tons of cute shops, restaurants for days and some of the best sunsets this stunning island has to offer. Treat yourself to a mini shopping spree, get dinner and head back to your resort for some rest, because you have a busy day ahead of you tomorrow.
Pro Tip for the Night Owls
If you’re not ready to hit the hay just yet, consider heading downtown, where you can find clubs and bars galore. What better way to celebrate your first day in Jamaica than with a nightcap and great company?
Day 2: Culture, Caves and Sparkling Waves
On day 2, it’s time to absorb Jamaica’s rich culture. You can get guided tours of several sites in town, but it’s also a blast to walk around and see the sights on your own. Start in Sam Sharpe Square, a monument to a national hero who led the slave rebellion that ultimately brought about the abolition of slavery in Jamaica in 18342. Just down the road is the Montego Bay Cultural Centre, where you can get a closer look at the island’s history and culture.
Local restaurants and cafes abound, so get yourself fueled up with some delicious eats before moving on to the next activity. This one’s going to take you a bit farther afield.
After soaking up some culture and getting that warm sun on your skin, take a trip outside town to cool down underground at Green Grotto Caves. This natural wonder is thought to be one of the first places in Jamaica inhabited by the island’s original inhabitants, the Taino. You’ll need to book a guided tour, which will take you as much as 40 feet underground and lead you to several different chambers and even Grotto Lake. These caves are only open until 4 p.m., though, so don’t arrive too late.
Make your last stop of the day the best one by booking a sunset tour at the Luminous Lagoon. Located in Falmouth, this stunning area is on the way back from Green Grotto Caves. Luminous Lagoon is home to microscopic organisms called dinoflagellates, which produce bursts of light when disturbed. The result? Water that literally lights up at night as waves pass through.
There are only a handful of spots in the world where you can experience this phenomenon, known as bioluminescence like this, and the ecosystem is extremely fragile3.. This is one of the most unforgettable things to do in Jamaica, especially if you’re travelling with kids.
Day 3: Freedom of Choice
Now that your trip is half over, it’s important to have a flex day. If you didn’t get to see everything you wanted on the first two days, this is a great time to catch up. And if you need to rest, you can keep it low-key today. However, if you’re begging to see MORE of Jamaica, there’s still so much left! Here are a few options for your flex day.
Beach Time
Montego Bay is surrounded by stunning beaches. For more fun in the sun, hit up one or more of Tropical Bliss Beach, Harmony Beach Park, Walter Fletcher Beach (which is especially popular with kids) and Dead End Beach. There’s also Montego Bay Marine Park, where you can charter a boat to take you out into the water and spot marine life.
Good Eats
Montego Bay is a hot spot for delicious cuisine, so consider spending a day sampling the area’s signature flavors. Get great jerk at Scotchies or Pork Pit, and circle back to Hip Strip to try a restaurant you missed on day 1.
Day 4: Back to Nature
There’s so much beautiful scenery in Jamaica that we recommend taking a second day to get outside the city limits and explore. Negril is a top destination for nature-lovers visiting the island. You can also visit Abeokuta Paradise Nature Park, which lies about an hour outside of town and offers a special look at endemic Jamaican nature.
Once you come back to town, there’s one last stop to make. End your unforgettable trip at Margaritaville, because you can’t go home without visiting this iconic tourist spot!
