From its picturesque beaches and lush rainforests to its historic landmarks and cultural significance, the Caribbean is rich with wonders that span far and wide. With so much to offer, the sprawling archipelago is a premier destination for vacationers of all preferences. Families are no exception, and aside from its obvious appeal to adult travelers, the islands are also brimming with opportunities to delight toddlers, teens, and everyone in between.

Here, we’re sharing a closer look at which hotspots are particularly well-loved among families, including a spotlight on some of the best kid-friendly Caribbean resorts.

Aruba

Sightseeing and Seaside Bliss

Western Aruba is home to a stretch of pristine beaches where even the youngest travelers can enjoy fun in the sun. Here, you’ll find both traditional hotels and all-inclusive favorites, including Tamarijn Aruba, which offers a children’s club and bicycle rentals, and Divi Aruba, with direct beach access, multiple pools and kid-friendly menu options.

Venture east for adventures older children and teens will love, such as hikes through Arikok National Park, or board the Aruba Sightseeing Tour for a close look at the island’s most brilliant landmarks, from the early 1900s California Lighthouse to the enchanting Aruba Butterfly Farm.

When to Go

Enjoy an unbeatable Aruba experience between January and mid-April. The high tourist season has wound down, so hotels are eager for guests, and the temperatures are still comfortable. The shoulder season from September through December can also reward savvy travelers1.

Nassau

Pirates and Plundering

When it comes to the best family vacation spots in the Caribbean, Nassau in the Bahamas is hard to beat. The family-friendly Pirates of Nassau Museum is a must for children, young and old, while the semi-submarine Seaworld Explorer opens up a world of underwater exploration for all ages.

Nassau’s family-friendly attractions don’t end there, however. Older children will delight in snorkeling Stuart’s Cove, swimming with dolphins and shopping in Rawson Square. The beautiful beaches beckon travelers with no age restrictions, especially if you’re staying at family-oriented resorts like The Royal at Atlantis, The Cove at Atlantis, The Coral at Atlantis and The Reef at Atlantis, all stunning properties with kid-friendly features like an onsite playground and babysitting for an additional fee—busy parents will agree that it’s worthwhile for a well-deserved, grown-ups-only break.

When to Go

If beach days are your priority, aim to travel from December to April for postcard-worthy weather. This is the high season, so resorts and excursions will be bustling.

Carnival brings in a second wave of visitors in May and June, but late spring through the fall will be less crowded due to the weather. The Bahamas are in the Atlantic hurricane zone, which is an important consideration from June to November2.

Punta Cana

Shallow Shores and Safari Tours

With its cultural heritage and exquisite stretch of white-sand beaches, the Dominican Republic is a favorite for Caribbean family vacations. Punta Cana is a top choice if you’re traveling with little ones, thanks to the calm, shallow waters at Arena Gorda Beach and a hearty mix of all-ages attractions, including safari tours, Animal Adventure Park and Dolphin Island Park.

The 1,500-acre Indigenous Eyes Ecological Park will delight nature lovers and all family members with rare views of natural species, including boisterous birds and aquatic species.

Securing a Caribbean family vacation package at a kid-friendly resort allows you to soak it all in with like-minded travelers. Many properties feature children’s clubs and babysitting, including all-inclusive resorts like the Majestic Colonial Punta Cana and the Sunscape Coco Punta Cana, both of which are great for varying appetites with an array of restaurants and will beat boredom with plenty of onsite activities.

When to Go

Tourism in the Dominican Republic sees both summer and wintertime peaks: July and August, and the stretch between December and February are both busier times of year. With its prime Caribbean location, however, there’s a good chance you can enjoy temperate weather any time you travel3.

Jamaica

Sounds and Scenes of the Caribbean Sea

When researching Caribbean vacations for families, Jamaica is a destination you’ll encounter often, and for plenty of good reasons. Stunning jungles, relaxing reggae, and pristine beaches will appeal to both adventure seekers and laid-back vacationers, no matter their ages. The Bob Marley and Dunn’s River Falls Tour offers scenic landscape vistas and reggae history in one excursion, making it an ideal family activity.

Among the most popular hubs of the island is Montego Bay, where you’ll find all-inclusive resorts ideal for epic family vacays. The five-star Iberostar Selection Rose Hall Suites is a top choice, with four outdoor pools, six restaurants and free children’s activities.

When to Go

Jamaica is a lively destination year-round, but the most ideal weather graces the island during the months of November and December. You’ll get the perfect combination of dry weather and mild temperatures.

The chances of rain start to increase in April, with hurricane season kicking off at the end of June. Temperatures are hot and humid from July through October, but this period also tends to offer lower rates to draw in visitors. International fishing and golfing events are major attractions throughout the fall despite the weather risks4.

Puerto Rico

Surfing competitions in Rincon, cavernous explorations in Camuy and wondrous waterfalls at El Yunque National Forest…the island of Puerto Rico is rich in natural sights and attractions for all to take in.

Outside of its magnificent terrestrial marvels, Puerto Rico is also home to historical sites, particularly in Old San Juan, where you’ll find everything from imposing seafront forts to smaller town square statues.

Adventure-seeking families will appreciate excursions like catamaran snorkeling, horseback riding, and kayaking through a bioluminescent bay to Laguna Grande. But if a laid-back vacay is what you’re after, rest assured that the lagoon-style pool at the Hyatt Regency Grand Reserve Puerto Rico and the beachfront access of San Juan Water Beach Club will captivate adults and little ones alike.

When to Go

For ideal weather, try to book your stay between December and April. Summer tourism tends to be quieter in Puerto Rico, but it comes with a chance of rain, especially at the height of hurricane season in August and September5.

But with easy passport-free travel, Puerto Rico is an excellent choice no matter when you go!
