We stayed here for a week for our honeymoon. The hotel is on the most amazing beach, and you can snorkel straight from there. There is also a great pool. Their nightly shows are excellent and their speciality restaurants are nice. However the staff are not very friendly and it seems like an effort for the bar tenders to get you a drink. The rooms could do with some modernising and the food in the restaurant is not very nice- it’s very processed and cheap. Although we had a nice week, we would not stay here again.
New Year's 2020 | Post-Dorian All-Inclusive
We decided to travel to Viva Wyndham for NYE a couple of weeks after the resort (and island) re-opened to travellers after hurricane Dorian. We were highly apprehensive and a bit nervous about what to expect after reading so many of the horror stories on Trip Advisor (don't read bad reviews after booking, haha). We booked a one-week all-inclusive trip and overall we were pleased with a few notable drawbacks. I'll start with the positives, the nightly entertainment was superb. It gave us something to look forward to every night and the performers/staff are well trained. The acrobats were the most impressive. The only downside was that there's no Bahamian culture or influence here, it's all Latin vibes which became a bit dull by day 5 (even for my woman who speaks Spanish). To get a feel for Bahamas, do leave the resort. We took a trip into town to Port Lucaya and another day trip to ATV (the ATV trip was a bit short and overpriced in my opinion). For a more local experience, there's a bar in Port Lucaya that serves delicious fried red snapper fish with fries, just go to where the locals chill to find it. We also ate cracked conch at a nearby restaurant. Next, we stayed in an oceanview room to the left of the main building. The view was nice and we were content with it because we knew it could have been a lot worse. Some of the pillows had mold and mildew on them, and we had to ask them to clean the room the first morning. But after that it was fine overall. I liked the fitness centre there which I used quite a bit. The facilities are pretty nice, there's enough to do. December/January is a bit cold, we didn't go in the water too much. The hot tub was nice, but always full. The food okay, pleanty of selection, but was mostly bland as many foods were either canned or packaged or repurposed (e.g. spinach, potatoes and other foods from breakfast were served again at lunch); The selection was repetitive day after day, except fot the lobster, lamb, salmon, crab legs, and champagne they served on NYE which was fancy and fantastic! Other than NYE, we had better food in Cuba, beieve it or not. Make your dinner reservations for the specialty restaurants during or immediatley after check-in to avoid disappointment. You may not avoid disappointment when you taste the food though because all three were lackluster at best although an overall nice dining experience. I rate it a 4.5/5 because it really exceeded our expectations after the hurricane. Under normal conditions it's a solid 3/5. I would not go back. Beware of the staff selling timeshares too. Overall, we were happy with the chepaer price/'hurricane' discount.
A great time!
My friends and I had the best time here on our spring break. The food and drinks were surprisingly good for the price that we paid. We also loved how involved the staff were and how they made you feel so welcome. Special shoutout to Ziko, Kat, and Pablo for making this trip one to remember!
Horrible Customer Service, Money Stealers
Had 10 rooms booked for end of April, they decided to close till May 1, rebooked for Mid June, a month later(after everyone already rebooked their flights) then decided to close until November and won't refund our money. Told us they decided to close because they didn't have many booking and they couldn't afford to open for that time. I thought Wyndham was a big company, hard to believe they would strand a 15 person group this way, let alone do it twice. Bear in mind the island isn't closed, just the hotel. Horrible customer service.
Such a fun girls' trip
Our week at Viva was filled with so much fun, great memories and lots of new friends made! My understanding of the resort was that it had newly been reopened since Dorian hit the Bahamas, but walking into the resort you would have never guessed something like that struck the area because it was so beautiful. CHECK-IN: Our flight had arrived at 12pm and none of the guests were allowed to check-in until 3pm (this was the only negative experience of this trip if there had to be one) we were however welcomed to help ourselves to the restaurant during our wait and Sunwing hosted their information session in this time span to kill time for the newly arriving guests. ROOM: We had a room that was probably the furthest away from the beach with no ocean view (which was no issue at all as our views were beautiful palm trees and plants), and near the gym, staff living quarters, archery/tennis court. It was about a 5minute walk to the beach everyday but we didn't complain as it was a beautiful walk to the beach everyday (and further along in the week we would run into all staff we would make friends with, which made our walk even more fun) BEACH: gorgeous. the sand was so soft and white, so many palm trees for shade if needed, plenty of beach chairs for everyone (I also visited during off-season, so I think this may also be a reason why), so many water activities to do. The water was so clear & blue, probably the clearest waters I have ever seen. The clear waters helped navigate which areas were better to swim around (as there are some patches that are rocky). Regardless, the beach is beautiful and felt endless. STAFF: from the minute we step foot into the resort to the moment we left, the staff was amazing. They were so approachable, friendly, and knowledgeable. Although check-in was a bit of a wait, the staff was very empathetic and calm which made me not worry so much and/or get too frustrated. The lifeguard, servers and bartenders were AWESOME! So lively, so fun, so kind, taught us so much about island life & Bahamians. The entertainment staff was amazing also, never have I ever felt genuine enthusiasm from any entertainment staff in all my travels to other resorts. This team really enjoy their jobs. They were all very great at convincing people to join in games and activities (but not in a pushy way which was nice). I loved watching their shows in the evenings, super entertaining!!!! My only wish would be to add some more acts/entertainment that relates to Bahamian culture! I'm sure a lot of guests would love too see more Bahamian performances :) OVERALL EXPERIENCE: The staff and locals we met on this trip were all so kind and genuine. They really were the reasons as to why we had such a fun girls trip. I definitely plan on coming back. And when I do I hope to run into all of the people we met on this trip again. Thank you to Linden, Anton & Kevin for showing us around the island! We learned a lot from you and how Bahamians like to have fun/eat! Thank you to Stevenson & Latina for being great bartenders and having fun with us! And Thank you Ziko, Flor, Pina & Charlee for dancing with us every night and pulling us on stage during the shows in the evenings!! You all made this trip one to remember forever :)
