Bad customer service
I found out by chance (going on the website ) that the resort wasn’t going to be open the dates i had already booked and paid in full. I never received information about this. I tried to call the resort and sat on hold for over an hour to finally get a rude representative on the phone to tell me I couldn’t get a refund on the travel insurance I purchased with my reservation since I was using the insurance. I tried to explain i wasn’t using the insurance, I didn’t have a choice but to cancel since the resort was going to be closed for the time I had booked. He refused to let me talk to anyone else and said was i ready to cancel. I ultimately said yes he said ok you are cancelled thank you. I asked him to wait until i got the cancellation email, he said I should have in 10 minutes. This is horrible i have to pay 600.00 to not go on a vacation. I would understand if i used the insurance but i don't have a choice but to cancel. I haven’t stayed here before and won’t ever now.
An Honest Review
Our stay at Sunscape was better than anticipated, after reading many one star reviews I was not expecting much. This is not a luxury resort so those expecting a 5 star luxury experience will definitely be disappointed. This is AM resorts value brand so it should not be compared to their luxury resorts like Secrets or Zoetry. Our first impressions were not very positive, we arrived around 5pm to check in, the front desk seemed very disorganized and the staff not very attentive. We waited about 2 hours for our room to be ready. I felt the staff should have offered us a different room that was available, especially since it was almost 7pm. The room was okay, definitely dated but the views were amazing. We had a king ocean view room in the pelican wing (I can’t remember the room number). The mini bar is stocked with maybe 2 beers and a couple of waters, the beds did not have standard size pillows more like throw pillows and the sheets did not fit the king size bed leaving the mattress exposed when you move around. They should at least put mattress covers on the beds. The bathroom had mildew stains probably due to lack of ventilation and lack of maintenance, we wore flip flops in the shower. Those that are germaphobes will probably be bothered by the level of cleanliness in the rooms. In my opinion the rooms are comparable to a Days Inn or Choice Hotel brand. The food is mediocre nothing special, the mixed drinks are watered down, order doubles or wine/beer. It is all inclusive so you can have as many drinks as you want. The best restaurant is oceana and the buffet is okay. Depending on what time you eat you may experience a wait, we usually ate at odd times like 7am , 3pm ,9pm. The spa facilities are below average but the staff was the best we encountered at the resort. The grounds seem to be well kept, the pool and pool bar needs to be remodeled. It definitely shows sign of deterioration. The beach is probably the best part. It can get crowed so it’s best to grab a chair early around 9 or 10am. The water is crystal clear and the sand is white power soft. There are also some great snorkeling spots right there at the resort and you don’t have to swim out too far. Overall our experience was good, we chose this hotel for the value. I definitively think it is worth the money, we only paid about $1200 per person including round trip airfare from DCA. We traveled the week before Christmas and the island wasn’t crowed at all. We were more interested in discovering curaçao rather than having an “all inclusive” vacation. I highly recommend renting a car and go exploring, take advantage of the many beaches and excursions available on the island. If you are expecting a luxury all inclusive experience do not stay here you will be disappointed. This resort is good for those who want to chill and drink at the beach or those looking for a place to hang their head at night after a long day of exploring. My advise to AM resorts: Train your staff! The entire staff seems very inexperienced and could use more training in their specific roles as well as customer service. The service is extremely slow, no one works with a sense of urgency, perhaps they are over worked and under paid? No one seemed happy. It’s seems the staff is not empowered and could use some motivation from management. If you can’t afford to pay your staff a decent wage at least offer them some form of encouragement. If this resort had better customer service one could ignore the deterioration and it would feel like a 5 star resort.
What you get in "All inclusive" does not make up for poor quality of food and drinks. Access to any bar area was great because it had to be. Drinks were only in 6 oz. glasses and beers were pony size. Bartenders were great which is good because you spend a lot of time at the bars refilling your drinks. Beach side service was very spotty. Items in gift shop were WAY OVERPRICED and of poor quality. You can get better by taking a $2.00 bus ride in to Punda.
Different manager, same lousy service. Just horrible
Lots of things are going to be repetitive from what I say to what has been stated by many other reviews. I am a travel agent who been at the resort 3 times and has plenty of clients visit per my recommendation. Well, that stops here as well because i think i overstayed my welcome with complete degradation of this place. Curacao is a beautiful island and the only thing that this hotel has going for it is its beautiful though rocky in places beach. Rooms - hit and miss. you have to beg to get into ok room and honestly based on what i have seen about half of the rooms are ok. rest are either dated, have issues with water. and definitely no room is soundproof. that is hard to handle when facing Mambo beach during weekend nights. Here is where my problem is. multiple visits, multiple complaints to management but nothing has been done. Well, not true, it got worse. Dont ask me how, but it has. Buffet you must avoid, but its impossible to get into speciality restaurants. Most alcohol options are sub-par as well. Now the most important part for me where i differ from some of the reviews. There is no real customer service or anyone that does anything to help. Take the customer service manager that replies to the review. Generic message and never gets addressed. Follow up, tell me something that will actually happen and that matters. Not the case. And my trips have been there for over 3 years with no change. Just a few weeks ago I had to call and complain to 3 different people just to deal with an ill client. By the way, Salmonella issue is no joke and its been for several months. I know that from experience reported by my clients. I feel like giving up on this resort and its parent company for a single fact that no one listens and no one cares. Considering the immense potential, I think nothing will happen as they are investing their time and money into the Dreams resort they just opened. up.
Great service, even in the crisis
This was our third stay at the hotel and we always enjoyed it's snorkeling opportunities and that we would not need to worry about were to get food everything c. This time, we arrived a few days before Curaçao stopped letting tourists from Europe enter the country because of Corona. The hotel took excellent care of us till the last moment, when we got relocated into another hotel. Even this was organized very well and went smoothly. When the governmental regulations got stricter and stricter every day, the hotel always found a good way to implement the rules in a way that made us feel safe and welcome, and that allowed us to enjoy our vacation. Every single person from the staff was helpful, friendly, and supportive during our entire stay. We can only recommend Curaçao in general and the Sunscape Resort in particular. Even in difficult times, they provide a perfect service. We hope everything can be back to normal soon and that everybody will be fine.
