    Wedding at Sandos Caracol

We had our wedding at Sandos Caracol on April 30, 2024. I cannot recommend it enough. We were lucky enough to have Armando as our wedding coordinator. He was so good at communicating with us throughout our correspondence. And offered us lots of advice with his expertise that was essential to making the day as perfect as it was. At our meeting at the resort Armando ran us through everything to expect for our wedding day, making us feel so confident going into the wedding day. We knew especially after meeting Armando that we were in such good hands and he did not disappoint. The wedding day itself was perfect, if anything did go wrong we didn't even notice because Armando and the rest of the staff made sure everything went smoothly. The timing of everything was perfect, the staff were exceptional. Especially server Jhonatan who made the night so memorable and also served us most mornings for breakfast at La Jungla. My guests even cheered for him when they saw him the next morning. The flowers were beyond beautiful and the wedding locations were amazing - we cannot recommend the beach gazebo and rooftop terrace enough. It was absolutely stunning. Our guests were completely blown away by it all and they keep asking us to have a vow renewal there so we can all go back to Sandos Caracol together. All of our guests keep saying it was so magical and they want to go back again. Even the wedding manager Carlos who dropped off our bouquets and took my bridesmaids and I to our first look spot had such good energy and had so much fun with my bridesmaids and I. Our photographer Sharon was part of the Sandos Caracol team and she was so good. She gave amazing direction, helped make all of us feel so confident and comfortable. We just got our photos back and my husband and I are just blown away by how great they all are. Armando and his whole team made our dream wedding a reality and they made such an important day absolutely magical.

    AVOID! So many issues.

Before leaving this review we attempted to resolve our issues in person at reception and by email to hotel management (once you have paid they do not care). We visited this hotel with our extended family and experienced numerous issues that made this our worst vacation experience ever. 1) Reserved room types were not available at check in. Senior family member that had planned to watch grandkids was put alone in adults only area when they had reserved a family suite. 2) Check in experience was chaotic and slow (over 2hrs). No senior staff present. We were not given crucial info (like separate secondary check in for select club) or towel cards. We had to go back and wait in long line numerous times. 3) Food was hard to access, subpar quality and dietary restrictions were not accomodated. The buffet was often the only food to eat and it was grim. Few food labels, dirty utensils shared across all the dishes. One family in our group was vegetarian and one had a serious peanut allergy. Not enough staff and they never seemed to know what was in the dishes (in spanish). We were all hungry a lot of the trip. We visited during full capacity and struggled to get food outside the buffett. Most of the restaurants (incl taco truck) were closed a lot of the time? No one would answer room service line. We got up at midnight to check the app and still rarely got reservations. 4) Select club room (Block 6100) was in poor condition. Strong smell that we suspected was sewage gases from bathroom plumbing. We travel a lot and have never had such a horrible experience and lack of care by hotel management.

    All inclusive....BUST.

This resort is a no go. I paid $1500 for 5 days in a room with no hot water. The service is sub par, The food was bland . Not seasoned and you had to search for salt and pepper let alone any spice or hot sauce. The drinks were watered down. .... Who can down a rum and coke with 3 extra shots and still not tell you had any liquor. Spoke with front desk as well as host about the lack of hot water, after speaking to them while taking a shower the water turns off with no warning. Site could not provide an eta of when the water would be on again. My daughter and I had to go to my aunts room two buildings away from our room to shower. Resort would not give me another room. Only had access to the buffets on site. We could not make a reservation at any of the onsite restaurants due to being booked up. You ar3e required to keep up with a "towel key" to receive pool towel. If "towel key" not returned additional $50 charge. The pool area on the "family side" of the resort was filthy with floating debris and the water was slimy. Plastic cups used for all cold beverages were reused continuously. I am not opposed to recycling but if you are going to use plastic cups repeatedly they should at least be warm when you set a wet cup out for use! After seeing staff take cups out of the garbage I could no longer drink anything but the canned beverages. Yep the bottom of the cups have printed on them please do not throw away.LOL If you have a medicl emergency or need a doctor you will need to go offsite. They resort only offers a lifeguard for medical assistance. ... I could go on but i wll sum it up with tasteless food, watered down drinks and most importantly poor service!

    Wedding Venue/Resort Review

We chose this resort, after viewing a few others, for the wedding venues, the animals and the amount of activities you can do on the resort without having to leave the resort, as some of our guests had mobility issues or had never travelled before. We had 2 weddings within a couple days of each others (our wedding and my cousin got married as well a few days later at the same resort). The wedding venues are amazing. Our wedding venue choice was the Cenote for the Ceremony, followed by a cocktail hour and reception on the Terrace (above RE). The Cenote is beautiful and creates a wonderful background for photos. It feels very private, despite being right near the lobby. I had no idea other guests were watching until afterwards when people congratulated us or commented when they saw me on the resort throughout the week. The Terrace is very private and a wonderful location for a Reception and/or Cocktail hour. Our Wedding CoOrdinator, Armando, was amazing. He promptly answered any questions or concerns I had and was available the entire time we were on the resort if we needed - even after our wedding was over. This resort has a water park for kids to enjoy, beach, main pool has a swim up bar, a smaller pool, a little harder to find, an adults only pool and an RE member only pool. There are many activities on site, such as snorkeling in the Cenote, kids game rooms, etc. and multiple places to eat. Photos of: First Dance on the Terrace, Hallway outside of our room and Aisle Walk with Father of the Bride on the Cenote.

    Resort Review… go somewhere else

Resort has really gone down hill over the years. My husband & I used to really enjoy this resort. The beach is gone from erosion, the staff is not very friendly, & they cater to the family side when you pay more to stay on the adult side. No music in the adult pool, very slow service on the adult side. It’s unfortunate, this used to be our favorite resort but we definitely won’t be going back. One great staff member I’d like to give a shout out to was Kive. He really was great upon our arrival & told us all the times for food locations. One more thing I forgot to mention, women can go into restaurants in their bathing suits, but men could not put on a sleeveless shirt with their swimsuit to go in to the pool side buffet. Makes absolutely no sense. Of course men are not going to have sleeved shirts at a pool! 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️
