Best place we have ever visited
The staff is beyond amazing. Genuinely kind and attentive. The attention to detail and amenities are like none other. All precautions are taken for COVID 19 and cleanliness is superb. We will return here hands down for our next vacation.
LA PERLA closed Refunds denied, although the reservation terms can't be fulfilled
LA PERLA is closed until approximately October2020. My daughter had her wedding planned for this location. They can't fulfill the contract, yet refuse to refund her deposit. Her guests can't be accommodated at LA PERLA; Melia refuses to refund anyone's money. Emails unanswered. I would like to request that the charges for this reservation #xxxxxxxxx of $x,xxx.xx USD, be refunded to my credit card ending in xxxx. It appears that I will be unable to stay at your resort on the dates reserved: July 01 -06, 2020, as I understand LA PERLA is closed until October 2020. In addition leisure travel to Mexico from the US is restricted until July 21, 2020, my flights are no longer scheduled or available. Numerous calls and emails to customer service representatives, who I've spoken with several times, could not accommodate my refund request. They did however advise me to send an email to facilitate my request, which is the reason for this form of communication, in this matter. This is about my 20 attempt to resolve this matter through email or by phone.
Five star to the staff three for the fact it’s not couples only!
We stayed at La Perla for the last stage of our overseas holiday, we’d done Disneyland with family, Cancun at the Sun Palace, a fabulous tour including all the major Mayan sites, plus a weekend in Merida, so we were very excited about spending our last few days at La Perla. We arrived after a very long day which had included an early start so yes we were tired, at check - in we met a lovely young lady who has a friend who lives in Melbourne Australia so we chatted to her about what was unfolding at home with the Covid 19 virus that we were going to be home by the end of the week to something unknown. Excitement kicked in when we decided to upgrade to a Royal Service suite, we met our butler Abraham who showed us some of the resort, but due to being tired & getting late in the day we decided to go to our suite freshen up etc. enjoy a glass of fizz. We loved the suite, everything was lovely & clean, we couldn’t wait to sit outside enjoy our pool the cabana and chill! So our disappointment and I mean we felt like we were mislead, came when we wanted to book our dinners for the three nights, never once expecting that if we wanted an adult only restaurant we would need to eat at 9pm or 9-15pm ok it’s not late but on our first night it wasn’t what we expected, or room service. These were our butlers words we could venture to the Dark Side for dinner at the buffet or any of the other restaurants we could get into!!!! He was right it was the dark side, we didn’t pay to eat with screaming children, before anyone criticizes that comment we have many of our own, plus Grand children but we don’t necessarily want to dine with them when we are on holiday! We managed one adult only dinner at Bana the Asian infusion restaurant, they have families one side and adults the other, it was fabulous the food plus the service. Mole was a disaster not the food or service just the noise! Overall we enjoyed our R S suite, having room service brunch, along with deserts and wine in the evening. We just felt that if you have difficulty providing adult only eating areas explain that at check in, don’t wait until the transaction has been finalized and then say oops no bookings available but you can have room service !!!!! Or buffet. There must be a better way to provide this service. The resort is beautiful. It’s well maintained, the RS lounge was also very handy for snacks or a pre dinner drink. This next piece is not a reflection on La Perla but they need to be aware it happened. On our final morning we went to La Palapa for breakfast, I enjoyed the very best eggs Benedict ever, the service was great the servers very friendly, then we experienced one of the grossest incidents we’ve ever seen, remembering that Covid 19 was on the move, someone blew their nose, I looked across to a couple and OMG he was using his napkin to blow his nose into, not once but twice, not a paper napkin either!!! We left soon after, reported the incident to the concierge, my worry was that a waiter or waitress would have handled that napkin not knowing what had occurred, plus the napkin would have been laundered with all the rest! I couldn’t believe what we’d witnessed no wonder the pandemic has spread. All in all we had our disappointments but the world was about to change, so we in retrospect we think being on our own was sort of semi isolation, we didn’t mingle which we usually do. We hope all the staff at La Perla stay healthy and get through this, you are all wonderful people.
A distasteful , non all inclusive get away
The place is nice but not as aesthetically maintained as it can be .Many of the plants/trees are dried out and look like they haven't been maintained in a while . Our room balcony faced the back of the resort and we were surrounded by dried out trees . Entertainment schedules aren't provided . The property is large and it is impossible to know where everything is without someone showing you . Although categorized as "All Inclusive" everywhere we went on the grounds of the resort there was something else that "was not included". While dining, which overall the food is pretty good , there were other options offered but only if you paid for it . Certain alcohols at the bar were not included , none of this information is provided before you get there which is deceitful . We paid for an "All Inclusive" experience and that is not what we got . The resort was also listed under "Adult Only" while on the same grounds there is another building which is for families . Most of the entertainment took place on the family side . There were not enough umbrellas or chairs at the beach which I've never encountered at a resort before . There was not much evening entertainment, by 11 pm the only thing open was the bar . Don't fall for the "Circle" offer , they try to sell you a membership to their club which takes a lot longer than the hour they say it will take . As a thank you , they offer a visit to the spa with a hydro massage , this is just fancy language for a pool with 3 nozzles of water shooting like a shower out of the wall . Overall not an amazing experience at all . I will not be returning to this resort .
Wonderful family get away!
My husband and I traveled for Spring Break with our kids (17 and 20) and 2 of their friends (20). We stayed at La Esmerelda because our daughter is 17; however, they gave her a special wristband allowing her into all the adult activities (just no alcohol). This was very much appreciated! The college kids had plenty of activities and food to keep busy both at the beach and the pool. Every staff member we saw was welcoming and the service at all the restaurants was phenomenal. They took extra measures (hand sanitizer and social distancing) to ensure the health and safety of visitors and staff. Except for in our rooms, the resort does not have TVs and clocks which turned out to be a blessing (we had our phones to stay connected with global events). The rooms were plenty big for our crew, clean and had everything we needed. The kids especially enjoyed the slippers :-) One special note, our daughter has Celiac so she requires a Gluten Free menu. The resort gave her a "card" to show the wait staff and, let me tell you, they took it very seriously and went out of their way to ensure she had the same dining experience as the rest of us. Jhonatan @ Hadar and The Grill was especially delightful! He had a special lunch ready for our daughter with her choice of GF pizza or fettuccine alfredo. She chose the fettuccine and said it was the best she has ever had. One morning he surprised our daughter with a beautiful plate of fruit and had (the best) waffles prepared for her breakfast. Jhonatan would stop by our table just to say Hi. This was such a simple act of kindness but meant the world to us.
