I wouldn’t recommend coming here.
Day 1. I entered my room to a water bug on the floor ( I hope it was a water bug). The food was so bad I stopped eating it and started going off site to eat. Very big resort and not enough carts. It will take 25-30 minutes if you miss a cart. You can tell the furniture has been refurbished, because you can see where they repainted. And I stayed at the more expensive “The Level”. Find another resort.

Lovely resort with just a few niggles
So my partner and I are coming to the end of our 10 day non-level holiday at Melia Punta Cana Wellness Resort and we have really enjoyed it. The beach is our favourite spot. We also like the lobby for having a quiet drink. Food wise the buffet restaurant is good as is the breakfast/lunch bar. There is only 2 al la carte restaurants that need prebooking. The resort is large but there is a shuttle every 5 to 10 minutes from the lobby to the beach. Most staff are friendly. 10 mins drive to Coco Bongo Punta Cana. Evening entertainment mostly good So overall great experience for a relaxation holiday. Now for the niggles : - - No electricity one day for a few hours which was unfortunate as my key card for room stopped working at the same time. - my key card deactivated 3 times during my 10 days stay. Fortunately my wife's card still worked but it meant I had to go to lobby 3 times to sort this. - rooms walls in deluxe beachside have doors adjoining them which means we can hear everything our neighbour say. - walls in rooms bit thin. - shower sometimes cold but mostly ok. - party boats right next to the beach play music all day which can be sometimes less relaxing - upsell of Melia group takes 1 to 2 hours, if you refuse the sales guy becomes unhappy. On a plus you get something for free worth $50 to $100. We went for the large bed on beach as you get drinks service. Just so you are aware the price of the Melia group circle is $4000 upfront then $350 a month for 5 years. Listen to the sales guy but politely refuse. Good points - mostly friendly non pushy staff - beautiful site nicely landscaped - beach has soft sand and safe to walk up and down beach - food mostly good but never outstanding - lobby beautiful. Nice bar. - close to Coco Bongo - close to the airport (20 to 30 mins) - mix of nationalities that are mostly respectful of each other. Quite a few Latin Americans this time of year, we are British. - Large pool with swim up bar. It sounds like a negative review but actually we have really enjoyed ourselves greatly.

For those who did not upgrade to the level
Honest Review: Melia Punta Cana – For Those Who Did Not want to Upgrade to The Level We recently stayed at Melia Punta Cana and wanted to share an honest and detailed review as guests who did not upgrade to The Level suites. While most reviews seem to focus on the upgraded experience, here’s what it’s like for standard guests: Rooms: The rooms are small but decent they’re definitely in need of an update, but they’re okay for laying your head down at night. The beds were reasonably comfortable. However, during our 7night stay, our sheets were never changed. We noticed this due to a small stain on a pillow and sheet that remained throughout. We reported it twice, but sadly it was never addressed. On a positive note, the showers were fantastic – good pressure and temperature. Pool Area: This was a bit of a letdown. The pools didn’t seem to be properly filtered – we constantly saw flies and debris. While a staff member walks around with a net, what’s really needed is proper vacuuming and filtration. The atmosphere also clashed with the hotel’s “wellness” branding loud music playing (not just for classes) made it hard to relax at times. The most frustrating thing, however, was the pool bar situation. The pools open at 8am, but the bar doesn’t open until 10am. You can’t even get a soft drink before then, and the staff were quite dismissive when asked. It seems unreasonable if the pool’s open, guests should have access to refreshments without having to go back for breakfast Mosquitoes: Be prepared the mozzies are everywhere, especially in the rooms. There are no mosquito nets over the beds, and we were bitten nightly. We suspect this is partly due to cleaning staff leaving patio doors open. A simple net or better pest control would go a long way. Definitely bring antihistamines and bite cream. Food & Drink: This was one of the highlights. The food was consistently fresh and tasty. Special shoutout to Mateo and Jose (hope that’s the correct spelling!) at breakfast and dinner they were absolutely wonderful. The restaurants themselves were decent nothing too fancy, but MOI was our favourite. Grounds: Absolutely stunning. The landscaping is beautiful, well-maintained, and full of photo-worthy spots. We can’t fault this at all , it really adds to the experience. Beach Area: Beautiful views, but do expect some seaweed and beach sellers. The seaweed didn’t bother us too much it’s nature after all and the sellers were polite, if persistent. Room Location & Distances: We stayed in a room near reception, which meant a 10–15 minute walk to the pool area. There are buggy carts available if you wait at the stops, but just something to be aware of. Also, note that breakfast and lunch are near the pool, while dinner restaurants are by reception – so you’ll be walking back and forth a lot if you don't get a buggy. Taco Bar: A nice idea, but we didn’t find it particularly exciting. It would have been great to see ice cream or other fun options there. Spa: Absolutely gorgeous. The spa was a real highlight peaceful, beautifully designed, and the massages were excellent. Definitely worth a visit. Wildlife: This was one of the most magical parts of the resort. We loved seeing the peacocks, ducks, turtles, and birds roaming the grounds. It gave the resort a truly special feel and made for some amazing memories. Also! The wellness bar by the reception which is meant to have smoothies never had smoothies which is rather frustrating. Final Thoughts: We had a lovely time in the Dominican Republic, and the resort does have many beautiful features. However, the experience as a standard guest falls short of a 5-star rating. The stark contrast in treatment between “The Level” guests and regular guests was very noticeable – even in simple things like drink service. Rating: 3/5 Main reasons: Pool and room cleanliness, and inconsistent service for standard guests. With a few improvements, this could be a truly wonderful experience for all visitors.

Disappointed
First of all, been to Punta Cana several times years ago and stayed at the former Paradisus Punta Cana which unfortunately has since been torn down. (good food with several restaurants (even open for lunch), gorgeous beach with clear, blue water...) In my opinion Melia Punta Cana Beach does not compare. Not as many restaurants. Food quality subpar. Asian restaurant with poor service and food quality. I understand there is a problem with seaweed, but water was basically unswimmable with a greenish brown color unlike anything I've seen. So disappointing! Now for the positives. Staff was mostly pleasant. Hotel very clean. Amazing daily massages with Wellness option. Beautiful pool although water too high for a shorter person. (Don't understand reason for this). Landscaping is beautifully maintained as well. Had an amazing ABBA show one night. Other shows so so. Also, there's a really nice bar with quality liquors on a terrace (nice view) when upgrade to Levels. If you're not a beach person and are ok with average quality food, this resort might be for you!

Relaxing Wellness Resort
My husband and I went for our honeymoon and found it to be pretty relaxing. The overall resort was clean and pretty up to date. For the most part, most of the service was friendly. There was an array of pools and places to relax. We did note parts of the pool were dirty and they seemed to be doing construction on the beach some days so we ended up avoiding the beach. While the rest of the resort was pretty up to date, the room was on the out dated end. We really enjoyed the spa at the resort too. The hydrotherapy and massages were great! As for the food, it was above average for resort food (depending on where you are). We ate at Quimera one night and that was 10/10.
