What We Love
- We highly recommend Ohtli, the resort's full-service spa. It offers everything from Pilates to traditional Mayan body treatments to recharge after a day of fun.
Things to Know
- With Mexican-inspired decor and activities like Spanish lessons, an amazing spa, nearby golf and terrific pools, this resort offers a cool, exotic vacation.
At this resort, kids and toddlers get their own pools, which are surrounded by lounge chairs and umbrellas for parents. The family pool has a unique rock-garden island and a sunset-view infinity edge, plus a whirlpool. For sand in your flip-flops, walk out to El Salado Beach, where you can kick back in the complimentary lounge chairs, and enjoy views of aquamarine-colored water and white sand.
When you've worked up an appetite, it's time for a casual lunch at the open-air restaurant Las Casitas. Or, check out burgers, fries and wings at Champions Sports Bar. If you want a more elegant experience, Mikado serves Japanese and Thai dishes in a refined and soothing ambiance. For evening entertainment, the Lobby Bar can hook you up with cocktails and Mexican-style tapas, fine tequila and live music.
Another standout feature of this resort is the Kids Club. While parents enjoy quality time together, kids ages 4-12 can hang out and join in supervised activities. Local craftsmen teach them how to paint barro-clay pottery, and if the climate and season are just right, kids might even get to participate in the Sea Turtle Rescue Program by attending a baby turtle release ceremony!
After a day of Caribbean bliss, retreat to the comfort of signature bedding, featuring plush mattresses, soft sheets and a luxurious abundance of pillows. If you're not quite ready for bed, a broad walkway lined with shops, bars and restaurants is only 216 yd (200 m) away!

Excellent in almost every way, except the food
We stayed for 6 nights during the run up to the peak of the Covid 19 problem. When we checked in the hotel was almost empty, probably 10-20 rooms occupied. By the time we left, we were the next to last guests. As such, much of the hotel was closed, but we still got a good idea of the many strengths and the few weaknesses. The rooms are normal Marriott, which is a very high standard. No....you won't know you're in Mexico....as the rooms are quite standard, but then the Marriott standard is quite high, and you may prefer this to a more rustic, traditional Mexican room. We had an ocean view room, and a "luxury suite", both of which were 5 star. My only minor quibble was there were coffee supplies in the suite, but no coffee maker for actually making coffee. They brought one after we asked. Also, there were no glasses in the room...even in the bathroom. I assume this was just an error, and not standard procedure. The grounds are great...huge pool, lovely common areas, and just a very pleasant feel. It reminded me of Hawaii, in fact. As many others have pointed out, the staff are really special....as friendly and helpful as you could possibly hope for. The buffet was closed for obvious reasons, and when we arrived the only three eating options were a snackbar where you could get muffins and sandwiches, Las Casistas, which was only open for Breakfast and Lunch (though it's normally open for dinner) and, of all things, a Japanese restaurant. The Japanese was in fact the only option for dinner which of course is not the case in normal times. It was fine, a normal standard of Japanese cooking, but we didn't want to eat Japanese more than once after flying all the way to Mexico to enjoy the food, so we ended up leaving the hotel for most meals. Las Casitas is fine if you're the kind of tourist who wants a sanitized version of Mexico...waffles for breakfast, burgers and fries for lunch, etc. And they do those things just fine. But their Mexican food was, I'm sorry to say, pretty bad. 'Virtually tasteless, and apparently toned down to what the think Americans would like. Two salsas...red and green, both watery and without any noticeable flavor. The Mexcican dishes were edible....but only JUST! We checked out early when all their restaurants closed and moved to Playo de Arco in town. This hotel is in a much better location, if you want to be near everything....you walk out the door and are in the middle of Old Town. The rooms are not nearly as nice as at the Marriott, though again the people were great. The food was 100x better, actual Mexican food, and delicious. So with Marriott, if you want the cleaned up experience, instead of the more rustic Mexican feel, I doubt you can beat the Marriott. But unless you're happy with American and Japanese food, eat your meals elsewhere. You're a long way from the city, about a 20 minute taxi ride (but only $7.00 or so), but there is a marina a few minutes walk away with lots of restaurant choices. I'd realistically give the Marriott a 4 1/2 star rating....the terrible Mexican cooking just makes it impossible to give 5 starts to an otherwise nearly flawless hotel. As long as you don't mind being quite a long way out of town.
The Marriott PV is our traditional February-March escape from Chicago winter. Given COVID-19 I have been delayed in writing our review and also almost hesitant, for selfish reasons, to welcome others to the Marriott PV. It is outstanding from the moment you arrive at the front door with a "welcome home, or welcome to paradise and welcome back."And you will meet another wonderful Marriott Staff person, Ernesto the greeter and his assistant Mitzi the cat. Greet them for us. Some of the staff have been at this Marriott for 20+ years. What a joy it was for us, at our first breakfast in Las Casitas, on the ocean, to be greeted by Carlos. We have been privileged to sit at his table for several years. And one by one we were greeted by his colleagues Ernesto, Jorge, Francisco and their supervisor Warren. For three weeks we had breakfast with these wonderful friends. I dare not forget Simon Coulson, the chief concierge who annually cares for all of our needs from the airport pickup, to recommendations for dinner and more and more. Simon is "the man." I stayed 100 nights in Marriotts of one kind or another in 2019 and you will not find the outstanding service that is a given at the Marriott PV. This truly is a special place. The remodeled pool and pool restaurant is well done. Service around the pool is so efficient that the wait staff remember your name and what you will order and when, thanks Victor. Pool/towel hut staff were attentive, efficient and very pleasant: Lorena, Bryan, Ulisses and others. Rooms are clean, comfortable with great housekeeping staff. Hats off to the landscaping staff who are always attending to the beautiful flora and fauna.Make sure you check out the spa and fitness center where you will be greeted by Sr. Gonzalo. Do we recommend the Marriott PV, just minutes from the airport, indeed we do but save room for us...we'll be back in 2021. We are now concerned for the outstanding staff as they too face the pandemic. This too will pass and I hope soon. Thanks to all for a great three weeks.
Beautiful property Beautiful people
My experience was superb. We stayed at a vidanta resort in Nuevo Vallarta prior to our check in at the Marriott. We decided to extend our stay and check in to the Marriott spa and resort. From our check in to our departure we were treated as 5 star guests. Warren our server at las Casitas was wonderful he was knowledgeable of the area and things to see and do. Omar, Jorge and Christian great service, great energy and very helpful. True dedicated workers. Very clean Hotel,Great food and service. Everyone had a smile on their face and all willing to help with all our needs. Hugo at the cab stand was most helpful as well. Truly a luxurious place to stay. Beautiful beach Great pool and the people were all amazing. Thank you. Gitta
Wish we were there!
Missing a lovely group of people who always make us feel welcome and home! From Guermillo saying “welcome home”, Ernesto, Simon and Warren enduring a wonderful stay, Carlos in las casitas with the best eggs Benedict and mamisas to our friends pool side, Chuckie and Raul! You are all wonderful- stay safe! We will be back soon!!
We recently returned from a 9 night stay at the Marriott Puerto Vallarta Resort. We had stayed here about 6 years ago. The recent improvements are wonderful. The best part of our stay, aside from the beauty, were the attentive staff. Of particular note are Victor and Raul, waiters in the pool area. Also, Sylvestri was the water aerobics instructor and always attracted a fun crowd. Eduardo in the pool bar was wonderful. In Las Casitas Benjamin was fantastic. The resort was spotless. The food was reasonable priced. Once this pandemic is over we will return!!
