Secluded Hotel with Gorgeous Views and Grounds
The hotel is gorgeous and is well situated on a quiet, well guarded street. The staff is wonderful. We've been returning for years and plan to continue. The newly renovated Sunset Café is still a wonderful place to eat and just sit and enjoy the view!
It's back and better than ever
I was fortunate to return to St. Martin this February and even more fortunate to be able to stay at the GCBC. What a marvelous visit from every standpoint. My last visit was when my wife and I spent eight days during Hurricane Irma. So much of the hotel was destroyed and even completely missing following the storm you had to wonder if it could ever recover? What they have accomplished in 2 short years is amazing! The rooms are completely redone and beautiful. The beach still beautiful and the landscaping is coming back. Perhaps one of the best additions is the restaurant which had been destroyed. New restaurant management, great menu with beach food, as well as excellent French offerings. Sabrina is still there and just seeing her smile in the morning makes for a great start to the day. The one thing that has not changed since Irma is the staff remains super attentive, efficient and friendly. People I hadn't seen in over two years greeted me by name and asked about my wife who couldn't make the trip. It was truly like coming home again. Steve Wright has done a marvelous job with his staff bringing back GCBC better than before the storm. St Martin still has a number of difficult issues to deal with primarily infrasructure and rebuilding, but GCBC isn't one of them. I am already looking forward to my next trip.
Wonderful staff, great restaurant and beach
Situated on the French side of St. Martin, GCBC is steps away from two beautiful beaches with soft white sand and translucent water. There is a beach for swimming laps and another for relaxing on a float or paddling an SUP. The rooms are spacious and have full kitchens and eating areas, terraces and private cabanas. There's an excellent restaurant on the hotel property, Sunset Cafe. The restaurant staff are friendly, helpful and upbeat. The charming Stelio, aka "Superman," lives up to his name, bringing beverages and food right to the beach or the quiet roof-top pool and deck area. The hotel staff are equally lovely and efficient. They will call you cabs and book restaurant reservations. They could not have been more attentive and pleasant. GCBC is an absolute gem!
Great trip despite mishap
We're getting on in years and my husband has a pinched nerve in his leg which makes walking difficult, so when we were first shown a room on the third floor with another flight of stairs inside the room to get to the bed, we asked for a different room and one was arranged on the second floor which was perfect. Best to ask for a room on the first or second floor unless you love stairs. The beach was just right--uncrowded, the water warm and calm and easy to get in and out of, the beach chairs comfortable and many people enjoyed the Caribbean. There was a pool, but we never visited it. The restaurant was quite good and the staff there was charming and friendly. A great place for sunset views and rum punch.. My husband pulled a tendon in his shoulder which became so painful that at 10:00 PM he decided he needed to see a doctor. The hotel arranged for an ambulance which took us on a 20 minute ride to the nearest hotel. The staff there were amazing. They spoke English, examined him, x-rayed his shoulder, gave him pain medication by IV and more medicine to take home plus a prescription. We were back at the hotel by 12:30 and the total bill for doctors, x-ray, ambulance, medications, IV and diagnosis cost $226. They even called a cab to take us back to the hotel. The hotel staff was very kind and helpful including Steve the manager who stayed with us until the ambulance arrived.
The staff is extremely friendly and does an impeccable job of making you feel at home. The grounds and rooms are very well kept with no detail forgotten. The beach and pool are small but even at full capacity, there are more than enough lounge chairs. We stayed in a townhouse with full kitchen and enjoyed light breakfast and sometime lunch as we overlooked the ocean from the table on the patio. The short walking distance to wonderful French restuarants adds to the experience.
