A shorter visit this year!
I cannot tell you how much we look forward to hearing "Welcome Home" when we return every year to this resort. This was our 7th time there and we are positive it will be our "home" each year for at least one week. We always travel with my sister and her husband and have a fabulous week of relaxation, food, beach time, pool time and did I say food?? I thought last year was great but this year was even better. Unfortunately, we had to leave four days early because of the Covid 19 virus situation and the Canadian government requiring all Canadians to return home, we still enjoyed our few days here this year. I am an early riser and and was on the beach by 6:30am each day to catch the sunrise. Each day, there was a beach butler to say "ola" and set up our beach bed and loungers. Cheers to Manuel, Daisy and Enrique!! Even though there was so much uncertainty with the Covid 19 Virus, they still went above and beyond. Daisy even cleaned our sunglasses for us one time and Manuel brought us some drinks. We had incredible weather and there was NO sea grass this year. The beach was better than ever, especially in front of building 10. Our butlers were Roberto and Elizabeth and we appreciated the attention we received from them. The Animation staff was as always, amazing. Alex, Jesus, Omar, Ruben, Cristina and DJ Juan. My husband played v'ball most days twice a day and had such fun. We tried paddle boarding and kayaking this year as well. I went into the small gift shop a few times and Leidy is wonderful, friendly and helpful. She even remembered me from last year!! The beach/bar staff is fabulous, the #1 Drink team includes: Betsabe, Karen and Rene!! Watching Rene mix drinks is great entertainment. The restaurants.........EXCELLENT, every single one.. The Asian restaurant is awesome. We requested some shrimp tempura and even though it isn't on the menu, they made it for us and it was incredible. We ate breakfast and lunch each day at Lima Limon, expect for one day. Arturo, Juan, Marlen and Oscar were the best. Betsy is the best beach server......such a bright light. Rene mixes some mean drinks, nom, nom. I got the the spa for a massage and Josefina was a very skilled therapist, thanks so much. One guy that seems to be everywhere is Agustin. It was great to see him again. I also want to mention the cleaners, the gardeners, the handymen, the kitchen staff....I wish I knew their names but their efforts are just as important as any other person working here to make each visit so memorable. The young lady that cleaned around building 12 and Lima Limon was sweet.....Angelina (??)!! Well, as you can tell, this is a pretty special resort. Each and visit seems better than the last. I am already looking forward to March 2021!! I am hoping and praying that things will get back to normal as soon as it is safe. Thanks again for a memorable visit.....
Another Vacation in Paradise
We recently returned from our 8th vacation at El Dorado Maroma. Another wonderful time in a beautiful setting. The resort continues to be flawlessly maintained and cleaned every day. The beach is beautiful. But the best part is the fantastic staff who make everything so enjoyable. There are many persons to recognize. We are seniors, so Reservations Manager Jocelyn Alvarez accommodated us with the specific room location we requested. Many other staff provided excellent service every day: Beach butlers Manuel, Eli, and Enrique. Entertainment staff: Alex, Omar, Wendy, Maria Fernanda, and Rafael were wonderful. In fact, we fell in love with Wendy and adopted her as our Nieta (granddaughter). Bartenders: Carlos, Rene, and Pedro-Luis. Beach and pool Beveridge servers: Diego, Betsabe, Carolina, Karen. Waiters: Andres, Inouibe, and Javier at Papitos, Juan at Mio, and Martiniano at Kyoko. Housekeeper: Candido. Everyone treats us like family, and makes us feel at home there. We will return in the near future to see all these wonderful friends. The only small negative on this trip was a "revolving door" of several concierges during the week, rather than a dedicated individual concierge for our stay. This resulted in a few minor things falling through the cracks. Not sure why that happened this time.
Perfect Solo Vacation!
This was my first trip to El Dorado Maroma but will NOT be my last! I vacationed solo from 04MAR2020 - 10MAR2020 but needed at LEAST another week to fully enjoy the rest and relaxation that EDM offered. I was welcomed at about 1:00 pm to a cool, empty reception area and was immediately offered a cool cloth, a glass of champagne and a very friendly staff. I asked for a room close to the beach (hopefully with a view although note that not all rooms have a view) and was thrilled to be immediately assigned to room 342, in my opinion the best room at the resort! The room is huge, with an indoor shower, an outdoor shower, a huge balcony with bali bed, two chairs, table AND an unexpected plunge pool. The view of the beach was spectacular and it was great to float in the pool after a day on the beach, before showering for dinner (I packed my own float, thinking I would use it at main pool but instead kept it in the room). The room was very clean, with a full sitting area and fully stocked mini frig. I left a tip every day for my cleaning lady (forgive me but I forget her name) because I wasn't sure if it would be the same person every day. I appreciated her efforts even more because I was on the top floor and those stairs are NOT easy, although I enjoyed the work-out with all the food and drink! Now the staff. What everyone says is absolutely true. The most warm, polite, loving, helpful and gracious staff I have ever encountered and I have traveled many times to Mexico and the Dominican Republic. Everyone mentions the entertainment staff with good reason - loved Omar, Alex, Wendy and Fernie - they were great fun which is not easy with the guests who frequent the resort. Most are returning members, and in my opinion, a bit intolerant of the younger, more vivacious, crowd. when I was there, there was a group of men on a business trip, probably in their 40's, who liked to day drink and have the fun that they probably earned. They were by no means out of control but I watched the older crowd eye them with disdain, as if EDM was their home and the men had crashed their backyard. This would be my only negative comment - do not vacation here if you are looking to party and be loud. My goal was to feel safe as a solo traveler, relax, lie in the sun with a cocktail and read so it was a PERFECT choice for me. The beach was stunning and the beach staff very attentive, friendly and fun. Betsabe is fantastic, always there before I knew I even needed another drink. I walked one day almost 2 miles each way to see what Secrets is like and have to say, I was glad I chose EDM. I have to mention a man who speaks no english and deserves some mention. His job seems to be to lie on his stomach all day in the water, pumping sand (I think) from the area in front of EDM to another area. He waved to me every day and one day, it suddenly began raining and he ran from the water to put my umbrella up for me. I include a photo of him below - I thought he was so sweet and wish I could speak spanish so I could tell him. Do not expect the huge buffet that you would get at other resorts, nor a huge lobby bar or any late night party scene. I ate at Papito's every day for breakfast and lunch and want to say that the wait staff there is incredible (thank Frederico). I am sorry that I cannot remember all the names but no one can complain about the service or food quality. I might suggest an option for lunch at the beach or pool. I wished they had a beach barbecue so that I did not have to take the time to enter a restaurant and be seated for every meal. I also enjoyed a fantastic stone massage and facial at the spa one day. Would have preferred the over-the-water location but the weather did not cooperate, which was a perfect excuse to treat myself to the spa. I WILL be back for sure. I did not feel the same pressure others have noted - as a matter of fact, I was not approached even once to buy into the Karisma timeshare. To my fellow guests - two pieces of advice: 1. TIP PLEASE!!! so few people were tipping and these employees work so hard! They truly deserve to be rewarded for their service (although they treat all guests with the same great service and friendliness, regardless of whether tips are offered or not - which says a lot) 2. Be a bit more tolerant of others who are having fun. This is a resort after all - not an assisted living facility. If other guests are having fun, are a bit loud and seem to be enjoying themselves more than you are - and it is before 10:00 at night - RELAX! The resort has plenty of space for all. THANK YOU EL DORADO MAROMA - my best solo vacation ever.
Wedding Anniversary 2020
We spent an amazing week celebrating our 15th wedding anniversary. This was our 13th trip to Maroma. Our butlers Oscar and Janet were excellent along with the head butler Geovanni. Waiters Oscar, Chipina and Laranzo made our meals enjoyable. Rene is the best bartender and Diego the best beach waiter. Mio's manager Augustin made our stay enjoyable with his professionalism and smile. We are looking forward to returning this summer. It is our home away from home.
My wife and I had a great time at this resort. Our room was amazing, we loved lounging on the beach cabanas everyday. Shout out to the entertainment staff--Fernanda, Wendy, Omar, Rafael, El, Enrique, Alex, and DJ Juan! We had a blast and hope to be back soon!
