Never Again
Im going to take some of the blame and say maybe we should have booked the luxury editon. This hotel was recommended so we booked. Check in was a nightmare, lengthy. There are towel cards, which are annoying. having to always walk with a purse ... You need to if you would like to upgrade your drink and its cash only. Even for a local good rum like appleton you had to pay up(cash). No one seemed to have a straight answer on how to upgrade. Buffet has great staff but the selection and food is ehhh. I did have some helpful staff that helped with clearing up issues and decorating my sisters room. If you go, stay clear of buffett and eat at the market and the dolce vita italian restaurant's steak and mash was not bad. Annoyed at the burnt calamari. Yes there is a QR to tell you where everything is but ask. You only have access to one restaruant every 3 nights. Scenic, clean pool and great entertainment.

Fun, large resort
We just came back from Bahia Principe Grand Jamaica. We stayed for a week and we're in a group of 16 for my moms 50th birthday. Overall, is this resort the nicest or fanciest place I have stayed? No. But they are doing renovations and the rooms we got glimpses of look nice. I wouldn't say it is a 5 star resort. I am giving it a 4 star from our experience, we had a great time. The food was good, everyone always found something to eat, drinks were good, service was over all good. We found our interactions with the guest services to book the al la carte and front desk to be rude, short and not give you the time of day. But all the waiters, house keeping, entertainment staff were very friendly and helpful. A few shoutouts to the waiters that made the al la carte memorable: Ricardo was our waiter at the Mikado Restaurant, Alex the Knife Restaurant, & Andre was our waiter at Dolce Vita, all were absolutely amazing 👏 The pool was great, threw us off that it's not all connected, there is a barrier underneath the bridges. The beach is great, we checked out both (one right close to the pool & the other near the kids splash pad). I think what would make this resort a 5 out of 5 is if they improved the staffs communication and the front end staff improved their attitudes, one actually made my sister cry she was that rude. I firmly believe treat people how you wish to be treated and always greet everyone positively. So to have these negative interactions right from the beginning of the conversation bothers me. We didn't let it affect our vacation, but just a suggestion to Bahia! I would come back if there was a deal on but would not be spending anything over $1600cad for the week.

BAHIA's worst resort!!
Where do I start. 1) The workers went on strike one day. 2) Leaking AC Unit in our room, which was looked at and then no remediation was performed. 3) Workers were somewhat lazy and rude in the buffets, standing around and not very helpful. 4) Locals on the beach in the water constantly wanting to sell you items, and very pushy. (They were friends of resort workers so nobody did anything even after voicing concerns). Been to the Bahia resorts before and this is by far the worst out of the Bahia, or any resort i have been to. You could not pay me to go back to this place.

My stay at Bahia Principe Luxury
I had good and bad experiences at this hotel. Firstly the good - The public areas are beautiful and well maintained. Lots of places to eat, the beach is beautiful. However we did struggle to find a place with shade on the beach as these areas were already taken by the time we got on to the beach. Entertainment, the energy seemed to be a lot better on the family side. Probably because there were not as many guests on the adults only side when I visited. I did feel sorry for the entertainers on the adult side trying to encourage people to do activities. It was the total opposite on the family side! The bad - we had a standard room, the space, the decor would have been amazing however it needs upgrading. There is no ventilation in the bathroom so the floors are dangerously slippy after showering. The tiling looks old, they have been regrouted but the finish is poor. the ceiling was in cheap laminate again not what you would expect in a 5 star hotel. Not what you would expect especially when you opt for 'Bahia Luxury'. However the public areas made up for it and that was where I spent the majority of my time. Make sure you check charges to your room especially if converted from USD to JAD!!! - I booked 2 tickets for the Xayamca show a cost of 15 USD each with the entertainment guy at reception. I got 2 confirmation email notifications, each email confirming 2 tickets. I queried this with him and he assured me that I had only booked 2 tickets and not 4. You don't actually pay when you book the tickets, it is charged to your room. The tickets are advertised in USD however when I checked the charge on my room account, the cost is converted to JA dollars. Had it been in USD I would have immediately spotted that I had been charged 60 USD instead of 30 USD. Was this done deliberately? It wasn't until I was checking out and the receptionist asked if I booked 4 tickets that I realised I was overcharged. So something to watch out for - make sure you know the JA dollar against the USD
