Worst experience at one of the best destinations

Experience and trip overall at Alexandra very disappointing. Inconsistent and inconsiderate service. This resort was most expensive all inclusive I have stayed in with the worst service. We were suppose to go to Zoetry in DR but with all the troubles we decided not to take chances. We were really excited for Turks and Caicos but from the start disappointed. Locals appear to be working on the beach and are not part of the resort. Difficult to get water once you are outside your room. Bar tenders only frequent where they get tips. They will not return if you order water. I ordered sparkling wine and was told no but saw several bottles on the beach...obviously guests gave them tips. Could only get sparkling wine and san Pellegrino at the Beach House. Drinks were inconsistent on flavor and preparation. Smoothie bar also inconsistent on recipes. They also would make you wait past 9 until they wanted to make a smoothie. Several days waited for an hour for someone to man the smoothie stand or to just be ready. Plant based protein powder is textured soy protein...not cool. They tried to put whey protein powder in my smoothies several times and I flipped out because I am sensitive to dairy. Gluten free was not easy...servers wouldn't understand or forget to tell the chef once I ordered. Had to ask for labels for granola at the smoothie stand. They need to be educated on food allergies. Orders either never came or showed up wrong. Phillipa the manager said they never received the notification from Cheap Caribbean that I was gluten free so that was her excuse. Beach towels are not out until later morning which is too late to get a lounge chair because guests are taking towels and belongings out the night before. One day it was resolved after complaining and then back to old habits. Called about sink not draining but never resolved. Housecleaning was fine otherwise. I’m didn't find it relaxing. It was a stressful trip just trying to enjoy what should've been easy givens by all the employees. Service has been stand-offish and not communicative. They just walk away at times. Too much of a chore to serve guests. Availability of things was dependent on who you asked. Shuttles inconsistent on times and rude. Wasted hours trying to go from resort to resort. The shuttle picks you up but doesn't tell you where you are going. There are actually two for Blue Haven and one for Beach House. Website with sample menu is not updated...made reservations for a beach grill out at Beach House just to find out we were ordering off the same menu when we arrived and not a beach cookout. Outdoor activities were fine and received good customer service from Jose and Markennedy. Phillipa...manager spoke to me over the phone and wasted my time in person to see what they could do for us but never got back to us after supposedly speaking to her general manager. Don't waste your money here when other guests from other resorts had way better/expected customer service.

The Weather made up for it

We stayed at the Alexandra from 8/5-8/9 this summer. We mainly chose TCI for the reputation of beautiful beaches and snorkeling. The fact that the locals don't want to kill us is a plus, too. Our airport transfer was mediocre but we felt safe. We had to wait a few minutes after clearing customs (simple but slow in a small airport). Check-in was not what we're used to after the big resorts on Bahamas and Jamaica. This is much more "intimate" of a setting just because of size. This property appears to have been or currently is part-condo. The rooms all have doorbells and they have that feel of a one-bedroom efficiency. They're about the size of a regular Holiday Inn room, even though the pictures make them look more open than they are. You can spring for an ocean-view room but we didn't. We looked out at the pool and heard the music and surf still and it was nice. The beach is just a minute to get to from anywhere on the resort. When you go, ask the towel attendants to help you find a seat. People leave their towels and debris on/by the lounges so you don't know if they're truly occupied or not. They have three "restaurants" on resort, as well as access to the 2 sister-resorts' restaurants. However the 3rd dining spot on Alexandra is just a pavilion where they order your food from the burger grill. The other two resorts had good restaurants but reservations can be a pain. This was our biggest sticking point. My wife got up to call and make the "Same Day Reservation" required at any property restaurants. At SEVEN AM she was told we could only get a NINE PM seat. Apparently they started taking reservations at FOUR AM that morning! And later we learned that a couple from another resort got a better timeslot when they called at ELEVEN-THIRTY AM. Basically, if you're not staying at "The Beach House" resort, you're second fiddle. Beware crossing resorts with your all-inclusive bracelet, too. It doesn't mean the same from one to another. Champagne wasn't on the ticket at The Beach House. On that same day we ran out of toilet paper. Toilet paper. There was none anywhere in the room. I was simply livid on that and to add insult to injury my wife called the front desk 3-4 times throughout the day to get more and they never answered. The resort has free bikes to rent so you can ride into the Salt Mills shopping center or elsewhere. They're simple single speed bikes and at least half have satchels so you can easily carry back souviniers. Stay on the sidewalks and remember that traffic travels on the left side of the road there, as in the UK. Take water with you, it's HOT. Overall a nice trip with just a few hiccups. Be forwarned about our few issues and have an even better time!

This is a beautiful beach but the service at the resort wasn’t the best. There were a few good bartenders and servers but for the most part not impressed. There never seemed to be enough bartenders and most of them would just fill your cup up halfway with liquor and add a few other ingredients. Not the best tasting drinks. No nightlife here - they shut down at 11:30pm and stop serving drinks. They don’t open until 11am or sometimes 30min after that while they were still prepping things with no rush. Seemed to have to wait awhile for most things. Had some activities for kids. I think tips are expected here. Best part was that you have access to the adults only resort, the Beach House and that resort had great service, food and drinks!
