Two stars no way Three stars!
. Four hours from leaving the airport until arrival at the resort, just check in. No welcome whatsoever. The place needs cosmetic work all over, tiles broken everywhere in the pools, poolside and many walkways just standard maintenance. Many employees don’t speak English. Meals breakfast is boring vegan will love it, beef livers and half cooked rice are unexceptible, watered oatmeal, bacon once in ten days and hot dogs not sausages! Dinner was lackluster no pork or beef ribs, low budget cooking. The beach was nice but the pool children running amok, drinks watered at best, even the non alcoholic drinks! Security at the pool is a joke the patrons had to subdue at least three other people that were annebriated and one gentleman wanted to fist fight the lifeguard when tried to help him in the pool! Security came and let the patron fall all over the place including at my ladies feet! What’s without the pool at 5:45pm go to the Kids pool until 6:00 pm! On the steps, the tile in the pool and all over were in need of repair. At the steakhouse the cats running all over the place and I received a couple few mosquito bites. Food was good though I eat fast and run for cover. I loved the Italian restaurant! Chinese I didn’t venture, no comment. As far as other services door key didn’t work next door neighbor assisted and was told they’re to busy and my lady got our reprogrammed, Thanx.
The room was OK however you could tell It was in need of a fresh coat of paint. There was mold on the phone. The dining options were OK but not amazing. Our shower waiting drain the phone wouldn’t work but they did fix it. The hotel is two hours away from the airport which way is it inconvenience. Overall The hotel was OK

Riu Playa Blanca
Out of all of the Caribbean vacations that I’ve gone on, this was the worst! The buffet food was the same. There were very limited options.
The steak house had the best food. The Asian Restaurant was second best and the Italian Restaurant was closed!!
There were kids all in the adult pool with the swim up bar. They should have been required to stay at the kid pool and the one next to it!!
The property could use some fixing up since it was built in 2011.
THE ICE MACHINES DON’T WORK ON ANY FLOOR!! Steve the bellman was nice enough to bring ice to us on the 6th floor.
IT WAS VERY HARD TO COMMUNICATE WITH PEOPLE DUE TO SPANISH SPEAKING (99%).They don’t consider English speaking tourist! The tv only had 1 English Channel!!
This was our 1 yr wedding Anniversary. WE TOLD THEM IN ADVANCE.THEY DID NOTHING FOR US!!
I travel on vacations four times a year. I've been to several Riu resorts in various locations, but from what I learned this will be the last one. To start the beach at this resort was awful. The water worse than New Jersey. The restaurant's were average at best. The steak house even thou it opened at 6:45 pm it was sold out before it opened. A line for the restaurant started at 5:30 pm. They started seating at 6;30 pm by the time the restaurant a 6;45 pm it was sold out and instead of filling people in as people left, they had a second seating at 8;30. They gave a seating buzzer that went off at 8;30. I went and talked to the supervisor named Jacob. He tried to blow smoke up my butt with his answers. I am very disappointed in Riu .once one of the best is slipping.Maybe the 3rd generation Carmen and Luis Riu should take as much pride as their previous family members. After talking to workers this stand in line an hour before it opens is going to become the new way for all the Riu hotels. The buffet breakfast was so so. I asked for three eggs over easy and got a look like I was asking for something that would take special training. Omelets were made without anything like onion, ham or cheese added just plain. Bacon only every other day. The Chinese restaurant was buffet even though they had a menu saying otherwise. The Italian restaurant was average. I usually don't complain, I've eaten in many a third world country and the foods been better there.. My next trip in May is to Iberostar Paraiso Del Mar been before and can't wait to go back. I would rather make a reservation and go then stand in line for an hour..If your planning on going to Panama I would suggest you pick another place.

Riu Playa Blanca Panama Do cheapcaribbean vacations include transfers?
4 years, 56 months ago
need vacation
Riu Palace Playa Blanca is located 93 miles from Tocumen International Airport (PTY) and 3.1 miles from Scarlett Martinez International Airport (RIH) .
If you have any further questions, please call us at 1.800.915.2322.
SamCC
its 1 & 1/2 hours from the airport. no hotel shuttle. you must book your own shuttle. thats if your flying into panama city.
KISHAF
we didnt have transfers included. we were four of us. we rented a car for the week.
the resort is approx 2 hour drive from panama city airport!
NewYork222
If you are landing at Tocumen International Airport it will be an average of 2 hours to the Riu Playa Blanca Hotel. The Riu or cheap caribbean do not provide transfers to/from. You will have to do this on your own. We used Panama Your Way and were fabulous. It was $300 round trip for 3 people.
Tasha
A little over 2 hour drive depending on arrival time and traffic.

transportation to/from airport5 answers
Is the transportation to and from the airport included in the fees? Or is that a separate taxi/shuttle charge that we are responsible for scheduling and paying separate for?
4 years, 55 months ago
Charlotte, NC
You would be responsible for your own transportation from the airport to the resort and back. For insight or helpful advice on booking your own transportation, please call one of our Beach Experts at 1.800.915.2322.
SamCC
not included
we were charged 150.00 cash for transportation going then we spoke to someone at the front desk who helped us with a ride back for 52,00
Debuny
It wasn't included in our package. We had to schedule and pay for it without Cheap Caribbean.
It cost us $300 plus tip for 2 people round trip.
kangarooshaha
We paid for a rent a car on our own. we were four family members.
the car total with insurance and tax came to about $175.
its a long trip from the panama city airport to resort . 2 hours
NewYork222
Transfers are not included nor arranged by CheapCaribbean. They were helpful in identifying options for travel to the resort. We rented a car for a reasonable rate ($235 for the week). It is a 1.5 - 2 hour drive, much longer if you drive during rush hour. I would suggest a car service/driver, which will cost just slightly more, but less hassle.

I Was searching for the resort on Google Maps, and its mapped as being in the middle of the city, surrounded by the river Matasnillo. I just want to make sure that this is not the correct location. What part of Panama is the resort located?

This resort is located off the Panama Gulf. For further information, we recommend contacting one of our Beach Experts at 1.800.915.2322.

Pacific Ocean side of Panama, you can see the ocean from resort.
kangarooshaha
it is on the pacific. its about 2 hours from Panama City.
Its a 2 hour drive on average from panama city airport. going out in the city after being in the resort wld not be worth it. basically stay in resort unless you are going on a specific excursion.

Rio Hato area, past Chame and in the Cocle Province. South Eastern edge of Panama. 2 hours from Panama City (90 km).

we did it on our own however, because we had a rent a car.

Are excursions available for Mayan ruins?3 answers
3 years, 47 months ago
NYC
Yes, we do have a few Mayan ruins excursions available. You can either add these excursions on prior to travel or while in destination. For more information please call us at 1-800-915-2322.
CaitlinCC
I didn't see an excursion that included Mayan ruins.
I saw one for the ruins of Old Panama City.
kangarooshaha
Excursions depend on the company you are using. Gamboa Tours does not offer any Mayan Ruin tours. They do however offer many tours located in the Panama Canal Area, Gamboa Rainforest, Anton Valley and an indigenous village. They were a smaller company but friendly and we felt very safe in their care. Luis at the resort in the Bar Barbuda can help you plan excursions and David (one of their drivers) was excellent. Just be prepared for a drive from the resort to anywhere.

Cost of transportation to and from airport8 answers
What can I expect to pay for the transportation to the hotel and back to the airport? Also, how long of a ride is it?
3 years, 45 months ago
California
cant answer the price. it depends on if you do share transportation or private. the ride to the resort takes about 1 hour from the airport.
papawpete
Cheap Caribbean does not offer airport transfers in this destination, so we are unable to advise on pricing. The resort is approximately a 2 hour ride from the airport.
BILLCC
Depends on which airport you fly into.
Panama City International airport can take more than 2 hours depending on traffic. We paid $300 plus tip, for a round trip, for 2 people. We talked them down to get this rate.
If you get car sick, take something for it before the drive.
kangarooshaha
We rented a car from Payless rent a car, total w/ insurance for the week it came to approx $160. But we were four family members traveling so that was cheaper than get a transportation service.
its a LONG drive, its 2 hours from the Panama City Airport. Roads are not well labeled.
the closer airport is only for canadian airlines apparently.
NewYork222
We flew into Panama City, which is about 2 hours from the resort. Drivers will charge $120-$130 (total for 2 of us), but i dont belive its per person. You can talk then down to $90-$100.
SingleMingle
About $120 US dollars and it's about 2 and 1/2 hours but worth it!
IslandAmericanGirl
Transfers are included. If you fly into Panama City it's2 hrs. There is a small airport 5mins from three Riu
Poolbarlove
Drive from airport is around 2 hours, depending on traffic. Our cost with Gamboa was about $150 each for round trip. Worth it not to have to drive that road and be stressed in traffic. we spelt or bantered on with the driver. Great way to see the countryside but long way from Panama City.

Is there any night life at this resort ? or anywhere near it? Riu Playa Blanca Panama5 answers
3 years, 43 months ago
New york
This resort has several bars that run until Midnight, along with a sports bar that operates 24/7. For further information, please call us at 1.800.915.2322.
SamCC
The resort has entertainment every night !!! Dance shows, parties, and culture shows
Contigo
The resort has a club in it. My friends and I (we are in our mid-20s) went a few nights. It wasn't crazy and it was pretty empty most nights but the drinks are fantastic and the music was good so we had a great time with just our friend group. We didn't leave the resort but I'm pretty sure its far from any night life. On Saturday night the hotel next door had a huge beach party but it was $25 to get in plus you had to pay for drinks so we didn't go.
gamblerm
No real night life. They have a very small dance club that opens at around 11:00pm
TravelRae
They have a disco in the resort and night performances.. other than that it's pretty dry.

THERE IS ONE CLUB IN THE RESORT. BUT NO OTHER NIGHTLIFE AROUND. THERE IS ONLY LIKE 2 OTHER RESORTS NEXT TO IT. NO TOWN CLOSE TO IT.
KISHAF
They have a disco at the resort, I didn't go there though. One night they had a beach party.
Next door is a huge stage as of Nov. 2015, at least 2 nights while I was there people were parting all night over there.
There is a 24 hour sports bar.
The shows don't start until pretty late at night.
I'm older than you and I was one of the youngest people there, that wasn't with their parents.
There are excursions, you sign up in the lobby bar, with a tour company. We did zip-lining. It was good.
I hope this helps.
kangarooshaha
wldnt say its a party hotel. lots of families and couples. but if you travel in a large group it could be really fun.
no clubs or nightlife close.
they have a sports bar, disco and nightly shows on the premises.

its free parking. we had a rent a car. no problem all week.
NewYork222
no
MocaCouple
No fee but 2 hours from airport. Even by waiving ALL insurance they still charge crazy fees. My car was $6.95 per day or under $49.00 per week. Even with refusing insurance the estimate was over $400.00 for the week. 10x what you are told and they won't let you go with it.

Reservations for dinner8 answers
Do reservations need to be made for dinner prior to arriving or is there usually availability when you are there?
3 years, 36 months ago
Sarno
no many of dining
debo1
There was two restaurants that required reservations. We made them when we arrived to the resort.
Smntha
You have to book THE SECOND you get your room number. Don't even go to the room first. Check in and go get reservations or else you won't get anything. We waited 1 day and could only get reservations at 9:30pm and by that point the food and service was terrible because the staff just wanted to leave.
JESSP
You may set up reservations for restaurants when you arrive at time of check-in. If you have any further questions or need help booking, please call and speak to one of our Beachologists at 1-800-915-2322.
TimCC
There is a main dining area that you can go to without a reservation. However, if you would like to eat at their steakhouse, Asian cuisine or Italian themed restaurant, you must make a reservation. I suggest going at 7am because by 10am, the reservation list is closed & you have to wait until the next day to try again. However, the main dining hall has the best food & most options to choose from.
vquedas
Dinner reservations for the 3 specialty restaurants are to be each morning for that night. its a bit annoying and can fill up very quickly as the restaurants have limited seating. but we didnt have too much issue since we like the late late seating.
Italian (buffet and ala carte option)
Asian (buffet only)
Steakhouse ( buffet only)
no strict dress code
NewYork222
You need to make a reservation early each morning for that night
TravelRae
No reservations required. Most of the restaurants, other than buffet, open at 6:30pm. We suggest getting there with at least 15 minutes before opening (get a drink and wait around, enjoy the night air). If you miss the first seating, it will be at least 8:00pm or 8:30pm until there are more seats available. What we noticed is whatever is served at the specialty restaurants, is served in the buffet the net day. IT was acceptable food, not out of this world but good.
