Hotel Intercontinental Mirador

This is an old hotel that was built in 2006 and needs a lot of remodeling. The light switch in the wall was 1/2 away from the wall (a safety hazard); the window in stairwell b my room was covered with cardboard instead of fixing it; the 2 rugs in my room were old, worn and dirty. I had them removed from my room. The noise was bad the first night because of young guys coming in drunk at 12:00a.m. They moved me to the end of the hall in another floor which was much better. The restaurant is a buffet for breakfast and good luck if you don't get there before the 8:30a.m. rush because if they run out of mango or oatmeal too bad for you; they don't replace it on the buffet. You can ask away for honey and you never get it because the waiters are not focused & either forget you asked or they do not have anymore. The afternoon meals are good there but a bit pricey. The tour company screwed up my vacation because I requested a tour to get on a boat to see the Canal and the tour rep put me on a minivan and then transferred me to another location to only view the Canal from the visitors center. It was clearly the wrong tour and she knew it and I got my money refunded but they only have Canal tours by boat on Friday and Sat. so I didn't get on any boat at all. Watch your receipt when you check out because I had a meal from someone elses room on my receipt. I called it to their attention and they quickly changed it. I was lucky to find a taxi as a my personal tour guide and saw most of the city and Canal and its history; along with malls and casino's, etc. Much better deal.

No no no don't get duped into this trip!

This is NOT a good deal! Panama in general is not a good vacation option but this hotel in particular is not good. I will say that the employees do try to overcome the obstacles but there is only so much they can do. This place looks good at first glance, but is worn out and tired. We had to change rooms right off the bat due to a rogue smoker on our floor. Rather than bust the smoker they chose to relocate us. When you are allergic to cigs like I am, second hand smoke is more than just an inconvenience. Everything about this hotel is just one bubble off. Like all the plumbing (just try to find the hot water in the shower), parking is extra, classes in the fitness room are extra, it goes on and on. The free breakfast is good, but again just a bubble off. Panama is Off. They are dead set on ripping off the Gringos. There is different pricing for residents and non across the board. The beaches are dirty and unassessable. Traffic is madness. There is trash piled high everywhere you look. And a mile outside of the city are skin and bones homeless dogs struggling to survive in the unbearably cruel environment. Disgusting. This hotel forces you to cab everywhere, so our rental car sat in the garage most of our trip. There are better options for your travel bucks. Sorry Panama. But you need to get your selves together. Use that 300-400K you get for each and every ship that goes thru the canal to hire your poor people and pick up the trash. That would be a good start.

Great Value

This was the first time I used CheapCaribbean, and there were a number of options that I was weighing. I decided to go with the InterContinental to have a relaxing vacation while still experiencing Panama. It was a great value! Even though it is in the financial district, it is on the water with a great walking path. There are local eateries in walking distance, and you can walk to the Old Town. The hotel was clean, the staff was friendly, breakfast was plentiful. I lounged by the pool, where there is wait staff to bring food/drink but the outdoor bar was not open. I would recommend this hotel for business or pleasure.
