POOR VACATION CHOICE

RESORT NEEDS A LOT OF MAINTENANCE. THREE RESTAURANT WERE CLOSED. ALL ACTIVITIES WERE IN SPANISH.

Reflect Review

When we got to the hotel, we were immediately greeted with a cold towel. Check in was very smooth with Ivan and Jackie walked us down to the altitude check in space, since we booked a swim up pool room. She gave us all of the information regarding the resort along with another young man (I forgot his name). Jackie gave us all the coupons available to us, shared with us a timeshare presentation to attend that we can get a $300 credit for (which we didn’t end up using) and ways to enjoy the resort and Puerto Vallarta on a budget. Our swim up pool room was amazing! We had the room in the corner so we had only one neighbor. We also had the room that had a small waiting area with two chairs so we had a dry space in between our room and the pool. You have 24/7 access to the pool with this room so we definitely went for swims at night and early mornings or anytime for that matter. The day we landed, we walked around to get to know the resort and stayed low key. They had a dance party for evening entertainment but wasn’t well received. We went to the adults only rooftop lounge and the music was pretty bad (DJ had technical issues). It was a nice space for views and pictures though. Day 2, we decided to hang out poolside and enjoy the resort & beach. During the day there are a good amount of families with kids. They appear to be mostly locals. So we tried to stay mostly in the adults only pools and around bars where we could stay clear of them. They also have jacuzzis which are great to use in the morning before it gets too hot out. We went horseback riding on the beach for only $25 each and ate at the buffet for lunch which was GREAT. For dinner we ate at the VIP/Altitude only restaurant and that was also great. Entertainment was Karaoke but again, not a lot of people in the room and all the songs were in Spanish (which is fine but would have been nice to have some songs in English) Day three, we actually went to another resort to attend a timeshare presentation over breakfast and got to enjoy their AMAZING SPA for free. Shoutouts to Ulisies for hooking us up at the airport. This is a whole separate conversation but you need thick skin to deal with the timeshare folks (our saleswoman was upset we didn’t buy although we wanted to do so in the future). Anyway, once we got back to the resort we ate at the buffet for lunch and relaxed for the day. We ate this night at the Grill restaurant which had a pretty good menu. Entertainment was live music and lots more people where here. I enjoy dancing so this was a great presentation. This night there were a lot of people out and about enjoying the evening. Since it was raining we didn’t want to be outside standing with no where to sit so we called it a night. Day four, we once again stayed on the resort. We ate breakfast at the buffet and walked along the beach shore to see the other resorts. Lots of locals selling plenty of stuff to purchase. Then we hung out at the infinity pool where we met Angel, one of the entertainment folks. Wish we found him earlier because we had a blast with him. We did water aerobics and had a water ballon fight in the large public pool, lots of fun! We ended up having a really late dinner at the grille which our entrees were not well seasoned but they had a great sangria. We hung out around the pools and went to the rooftop bar again where the music was better but folks didn’t stay for long. Seemed like everyone was looking for something to do on this Friday night and they didn’t have much to offer. Day five, we had an early morning swim in our pool and then ate at the restaurant for VIP breakfast. This was the best breakfast we had our whole stay. There was also a lot more people (maybe because it was a Saturday?). We had to leave around 11am to catch our flight at 1:30pm. All and all, we had a great experience at Reflect and are looking into doing a membership with them to take advantage of their sister resorts in the future. Pros: if you are a VIP guest, they treat you very well with stocked fridge, housekeeping service day and evening, personal phone calls, access to special restaurants and promotions. The swimup room gives you 24/7 access to swim, great customer service throughout the resort. shoutouts to some of the staff, Angel, Ivan, Jackie, the the guy on the beach giving horseback rides for taking care of us. They made our stay extra great! Cons: entertainment at night is not great (can should improve in this area as if you are someone looking for things to do its boring), kids can also enjoy the private swimup room so it can get rowdy, at night there are kids everywhere so if you want to sleep early or take naps during the day wear earplugs, they cater a lot to locals so majority of guests and service workers at the resort only speak Spanish (can be a barrier to communication or can help you brush up on your Spanish)

Nothing as advertised

First of all I am so unhappy that we spent our hard earned money on this All Inclusive vacation. The flight was great! The arranged transportation to and from airport was great! The resort was dirty, pools need filter and scrubbing. Upon check in there was sand on the couch and floor, sticky fingerprints on the table, and a mini-fridge that was suppose to be stocked but wasn’t restocked. Not a good check in impression. The service is terrible. I had to call twice for them to bring us at least water bottles to put in the fridge. At this point we were dehydrated and could care less about sodas or beer. Water never came until the next day after attempting to complain to a manager, they got us water and they avoided our request to speak to a manager. Three of the four restaurants were closed our entire stay and so had one dinner option the entire time. The buffets swarmed with flies. The ONLY after hours adult Sky Bar was closed the entire time. My husband called for the hours, they gave us the hours, he patiently waited for me to get ready, and we arrived to a dark closed and locked Sky Bar area. We had absolutely nothing to do after 8:30 every night. One pool closed at 6pm and the other at 8/8:30. We are not party goers so didn’t expect much but at least expected the advertised options to actually be available. The manager said that they close areas sometimes due to weather but there was no rain the entire time we were there except for maybe 10 minutes at 3:00 am which was when places would have been closed anyway. Needless to say I demanded to speak to the manager again, and again excuses that he was in a meeting but “what could we do for you”?. I told them I would come back, when I did they wanted to help but I insisted on speaking to a manager. FINALLY...a manager came and listened to all of our concerns and complaints. His reply was “well, you have had access to food and a room”. Wow! This made me angry. He was not understanding our frustrations AT ALL. So I emailed a complaint to Cheapcaribbean.com who contacted the resort on our behalf. We are to receive a very small credit that I am not satisfied with. I mean we did not get to enjoy even half of the advertised amenities. We ate dinner at the SAME place every night even though there was suppose to be four dining options not including the gross buffet. We were away from our kids to enjoy adult time yet the one adult after hour area never opened. It was our first time booking with Cheapcaribbean.com, we usually use another travel site but took a chance and now sorry we did. I am hopeful for Cheapcaribbean.com to reach out to us to offer further compensation on their part since the resort did not feel that we should be refunded more compensation even though more than half the amenities were not available for enjoying. Sad to say as a frequent travel that I have finally been thoroughly disappointed in a much needed vacation. I won’t bother posting pictures of the pools with mildew.

The all-inclusive equivalent of a Super 8

Upon arrival at 1pm, I was shown to my room. (Props to them for not making me wait until check in at 3pm) The run of the house room I was taken to resembled a miniature version of a cheap roadside motel room. There was a musty odor in the room that I assumed was likely due to no AC running for a day or three. While I had anticipated a run of the house room, this was a disappointment. I sincerely wondered how even the worst room in a hotel rated as 4 stars could resemble that room. I’ve stayed in nicer hostels. Strike one. Lunch was also a disappointment. I grabbed a quick bite in the buffet area. Many bash food at all-inclusives but I typically find it better than not. The overall buffet experience at Krystal was a considerable step down from the buffets I’ve been to at Dreams and Secrets properties. Aside from being shown to a table, not a single member of the staff addressed me. I was never offered a drink or water, no plates were cleared, etc. However, 3-4 staff members wished me a good day as I was leaving. In other words, they could see me but didn't actually do anything to assist me. Strike two. After lunch I inquired about upgrading my room and paid approximately $380 to move to a larger room with an ocean view in the main tower. It was over twice as big and considerably nicer than the original room but still relatively basic accommodations -- on par with a Holiday Inn or Best Western. The same musty odor, albeit stronger, was present. Naively I assumed once AC was running, it would subside. Having traveled all day, I showered and took a nap. The smell was still very present when I woke. I began to looking around the room more closely to see if I could find what was causing the odor. I opened the minibar to find that the insides were clean, but it contained no bottled water. (Neither did the minibar in the first room) Upon opening a dresser drawer, I was met with an intense mildew smell. (No way my clothes were going in there!) I also found several patches of mold growing on the curtains and other fabrics in the room. Strike three. This was clearly not shaping up to be a good experience. With only four nights to enjoy, I had a choice to stay at Krystal and be miserable or book elsewhere and make the most of my time. I opted for the latter. I booked 4 nights at Dreams down the road, packed my things, requested a cab, and checked out. I was not interested in moving to a 3rd, 4th, or 5th room. To my surprise, the front desk volunteered to refund the money I’d paid to upgrade my room. I expected I’d have to duke that out once at home through my credit card company. To give credit where it is due, the staff I did interact with at Reflect were accommodating. However in no way, shape, or form is this a 4 star resort. 3 at best - in a mold free room! It strikes me that this property has been grossly overrated by AM Resorts.
