Love the Valentin Imperial Maya
This was our 3rd year in a row and we three college friend couples (now in our 60's) will continue to come back. The employees are all polite and will accommodate any reasonable request, cheerfully and fully engaged in making each guest have the vacation of a lifetime. Really!
The pool is large and noisy, and the exercise leaders are fun and energetic. Both pool bars are stocked with name brand liquor and offer new ideas with a drink of the day. The pool lunches were very good, burgers and tacos. The waiters are busy yet make sure everyone has a drink in hand.
The beach waiters work their legs off, but are constantly there just as we need them. The palapas are clean and the beach is meticulously manicured for seaweed. We didn't visit the quiet pool this year, but heard it was full too.
The food was OK. We ate at the Indonesian, Italian, Hibachi, Mar and Terra, and Mexican. The Mexican restaurant had the best food.
We stay in the basic Jr. Suites each year and they are wonderful, large bathrooms, close to the pool, great balconies, quiet air conditioning, and good overhead fans. LOVE THIS PLACE.
The resort is absolutely amazing. The grounds are impeccable with constant upkeep and cleaning from the staff. The food options and quality is excellent. The buffet near the front has more options during breakfast than the one by the beach. We never had to wait more than a few minutes to be seated for lunch or breakfast. Dinner has many options and if we had to wait at one place we went to another. We like to walk; so, we rarely took the shuttles (long golf carts) around the property. They run constantly; so, they can get you around the property easy. We did the spa...amazing. We would recommend the main spa versus the pool or beachside treatments where there is less privacy and noise from pool activities that prevent relaxation. There is always staff available to help you and answer questions.
Here are few things we would recommend. Pay for a private shuttle from the airport. It is worth the extra expense. The check-in can be hectic and the staff could spend time orienting you to the property. It took us two days to figure out you could swim in the ocean and where the tennis courts are located. Some of the staff do not speak English. We missed out on a few drink requests here or there. Overall, they do a really good job to make you feel welcome and relaxed. We can see why so many people go back time and time again.
Recommend- you do research on any excursions. Half day trip means full day trip in reality. Lunch provided is weak ; so, fill up with a huge breakfast.
We had a great return trip to the Valentin but felt a bit misled by the $700 in resort "credits" that we were given. They honor the credits but there are a lot of very specific restrictions put on most of them so they aren't things that most people will take advantage of. Example: The $100 Spa credit is only good for $50 massage and $50 facial and you MUST have a minimum 1 hour of either to qualify. We tried to get 1/2 hour massages and they wouldn't honor the credits but you don't know this until after you get there. Also, the room upgrades are far more expensive once you get there and use their rates so the $200 in credits will still be more expense than if you book with CC, so if you plan on upgrading, do so on the CC website when you book, it will be MUCH less expensive.
I have been to VIM several times and have nothing but great things to say about the resort itself. The people, food, service, pool, accommodations, beach and grounds are all great. You will not be disappointed with your decision to go there.
We loved the resort. Maybe the most beautiful location we’ve had the opportunity to visit on our numerous trips to Riviera Maya. T he only downside I could see is if you don’t enjoy walking. This is a huge resort and you may walk a half mile to get to restaurants if you have an on beach location. Fabulous service and the dining choices were excellent! We had a poolside suite and really loved the view and service to our patio. Truly a great experience!

How do I get the package price?8 answers
I'm looking at the package deal for the Valentin Imerial Maya for $599 per person but when I put in dates the price doubles. How do I get the trip for $599?? It doesn't have selected days.
8 years, 97 months ago
jenajoy
the price is 599 per person double occupancy only...then depending on what airport u fly out of it might be extra for that and then tax basically you can call them if you want, but i think all in all it will not cost 1200 its more like 1800 total.
I have stayed at this resort beofre and and it wonderful! we are going back. hope this helps...good luck.
johnswife
Did you enter in the promo code? At the bottom of the page there is a area to enter in the promo code that applies to you.
SFun
I had trouble with that too when we were booking. You really just have to toggle with the dates for a while to find a combination that works. Also, where you're flying from probably adds significantly to the price because the price is calculated based on a flight leaving from Ft. Lauderdale.
NatureGrl
Call the representative at Cheap Caribbean... it will be faster
Dolpina
It all depends where you are flying from, how many stops, etc. For example, where we fly out of, we always have to go to a larger airport that goes right to Cancun.
runner1909
I know when we booked there was a code we had to use to get $450 dollars off (ex. MAYA450) and you don't put the code in until you get close to the end, like after picking the flight and stuff. Hope that helps..
afox23
Usually it automatically selects 2 people - which would be why the price doubles. Otherwise check the dates in ().
sherryKM
It depends on the dates you wanna travel
Sledge
I believe the price shown is for the resort only and airfare from the closest city only, and does not include airport transfers or taxes. I talked to some people who flew from different areas of the country and thus their cost was different than mine. However, I must say no matter where you come from, the value is just amazing as it is truly a five star resort with impeccable services, outstanding facilities, and the beauty of the buildings, grounds and multiple pools exceeds anything I have seen -- even in Hawaii.

How is the swimming at this resort?12 answers

Amazing! So many pools to choose from, and the entire resort is adult only so the noise levels are very low. Beach is also amazing!
CaribbeanJim
Just click on your departure city, enter your dates, number of passengers, etc and away you go!
CaribbeanJim
They have one of the largest pools I have seen. The beach is nice on one side but very rocky on the other side. You do need to get up early in the morning 6a.m. to reserve chairs at the pool and beach or else they are gone. Many of the chairs at the pool and beach are reserved for the more expensive room.
cjay
Great!
GeoJr
The pools were nice and not too cold (we were there in March).
The water at the beach was extremely rough and there's a pretty small roped off area where you can swim. The swimming area does have a sandy bottom which was nice.
We swam every day in the pool and ocean. Had a great time.
NatureGrl
Swimming is fabulous. the main pool was huge. The swim up room pools were quiet and nice. Water was perfect temperature. The beach was the nicest I have ever seen. crystal clear water. I love big waves and this beach had it. The ocean front room has all rock and coral in front of its beach, so we felt this would not be worth it
Happyvacationer1
excellent. the pool is huge and very clean. there are no little kids running around, and the beach is beautiful. once i got in the pool i spent a good part of my day in the water!
dickybeau
Excellent. The pool is huge. There are also several smaller pools if you want something more mellow. The beach is great, and you can swim there as well.
Coach
The swimming was terrific, gentle water and warm. There is a school of angle fish that stays right near the beach. If you take some bread with you they will swim right up to you and eat it. If you are facing the ocean go all the way to the left to get into the water, least amount of pebbles at the water line. After a couple of feet it is all soft sand.
BrianL12
Swimming was great. Both the pool and beaches are not overcrowded. One area in the water at the beach had some rocks. Water temperature was wonderful (April 2011).
xxxxx
Swimming at this resort is amazing. If you like the ocean, you will love this beach. The water is so clear and warm and you can go pretty far out without it getting deep. There are angel fish that you can feed and my husband snorkeled so he could see them. There is a net to keep out any unwanted intruders. :) The pool is huge, but we found that we loved the beach more and was there everyday.
HeatherO
The pool water is very clear and well kept. There's a larger pool with 2 swim up bars, and a volleyball net. Then there are smaller pools closer to the buildings you sleep in. The ocean is very clear, and a section is flagged out so you don't step on rocks. The water has waves, so youwouldn't lay there and float but the waves aren't that big. It's a lot of fun!
jjbabycakes
Swimming is ok at the pools, but as there is only one big pool, then it's recommended to go early in the morning before the water squatters get there with their giant insulated mugs and drink all day w/o getting out of the water to properly relocate said liquid intake. There is a smaller lap pool which may help as well.
The beach offers fairly open swimming as long as there are no major winds which limits where you can swim
NewYorkGringo
The swimming was good in that the pool is very long and offers a quiet end away from all the afternoon activities. It has lots room to roam. It also has a beach which offers good sandy beach swimming as well.
fish19
Fabulous Beach.. White Sand, Coral free in swimming area, easy to get in and out of the water, fun to play in the waves.

How far is the Valentin from Playa Del Carmen?11 answers
We were wondering what there is to do outside of the resort besides the already listed excursions?
7 years, 97 months ago
Mosie
The Valentin Imperial Maya is approximately 20 minutes by taxi to Playa del Carmen and approximately 30 minutes to Cancun, where there are a number of restaurants and shopping opportunities. There are also a couple of golf courses in the area as well as the Xel-Ha and Xcaret theme parks and the Tulum pyramids.
KateCC
Playa del Carmen is a 20 minute cab ride away. The Valentin also has a shuttle that goes twice a day at designated times for $17 per person. The cab ride is $22 each way. You can take the ferry from Playa del Carmen and go to the Island of Cozymel. They have other trips that you can take for snorkeling, visiting the ruins etc. but they are all at a cost.
cjay
The Valentine is about 15-20 minutes away from Playa. We went to Playa and it was very nice. We shopped, ate lunch and went to the beach. We also went to Tlum which was beautiful.
Miker
once you arrive at this resort, you will not want to leave to venture out and spend more money! there is plenty to do, eat, and drink!
dickybeau
Playa Del Carmen is about 20 min away by taxi. There is also several Mayan ruins within an hour. I would recomend going to at least one of them.
BrianL12
You are about 25 miles from Playa. There are two shuttles a day that go there. One afternoon and one evening.
LoisandClark
The hotel has 2 shuttles per day, morning & afternoon. In April, 2011, it costs $18 per person, and it takes about a half hour to get to Playa Del Carmen.
ShGar
We took an excursion to Playa del Carmen and it only took about 30 minutes. We also did the Tulum Extreme which took you to the Mayan Ruins, snorkeling in a cenote, rapelling, and zip-lining (lunch included). The trip to Tulum was about an hour but well worth it.
xxxxx
The Valentin is about 20 minutes away from Playa del Carmen. You can ride the Valentin shuttle for $18.00 per person round trip. Playa del Carmen is ok if you want to shop and walk around. We also went to Xel Ha....which we love and recommend highly.
HeatherO
It's roughly 20-25 minutes from Playa del Carmen. The resort has a daily shuttle to Playa del Carmen for $18 pp, or you could take a cab for $25 each way. Valentin Imperial Maya is between Peurto Morales and Playa del Carmen.
The resort is one hour away from Tulum where there are Mayan ruins to tour. Also along the way to Tulum there are cenotes. We did a tour at the Jungle Place (1 hour away from resort) where we interacted with rescued spider monkeys. It was awesome. You can rent a car from the resort for $65 and drive to any of these places very easily and safely.
Katyquita
We went to Cancun for half a day of shopping in a local market and lunch. You can go to Cozumel for a day. I highly recommend going to Playa del Carmen. Take a taxi or van (it's cheaper) and go from 1:00 to 9:00. Pay half the fee when you get there and the other half when they bring you back. Playa is full of shops and restaurants and bars. Eat at one of the places on the beach, the sand is like talcum powder.

resort map available?11 answers
Does anyone have a resort map that shows where each type of room is located? (silver, golden, etc). Also, if we were placed in a room far from the beach do any of the pools go throughout the property so that one could swim/float instead of having to do too much walking? I have bad knees.
Thanks
7 years, 97 months ago
nottachef
You may be able to find a resort map for the resort on their website at www.valentinmaya.com. The resort's pools do not interconnect throughout the property and the resort is quite large, so if you are looking to be in a room that is centrally located, request to be in building 4 or 5 as they are in the center of the property.
KateCC
We just returned from the Valentin and it is a very large resort and does require a lot of walking unless you get a beachfront room which goes out onto the beach. There are several pools but are located in the center. They do have a map they give you when you arrive. They might be able to fax or email you one.
cjay
The property does have a map locating all amentities. You could not swim from location to location. A lot of walking is required but you could call the front desk to come to your room with a cart to pick you up and take you to your destination. The service there is excellent.
GeoJr
The pool is quite long and you could float a long way in it. The resort many golf carts on which you could catch a ride to the beach.
Verch
As to the walking, some units are more centrally located and shuttles (golf carts) are available.
lejaptnt
There should be a map on their website. Also, when you book, request a room close to one of the smaller pools so that you don't have to walk.
Coach
I have a really bad back and cannot walk that far at all. We stayed in a golden suite. It is close to the beach, close to the main pool and there is a separate pool that our patio went out to. It is called a swim up suite. The only thing was that it was too far of a walk for me to the restaurants. But all you have to do is call, and someone will pick you up and take you. When you are ready to go back to the room, they will take you back too! Hope this helps.
Cohy
The pools do not connect and the place is big but they have shuttles to take you cheerfully wherever you want to go -- to another pool, to the ocean, or restaurants. I have some trouble walking too but I just pick up the phone, called the front desk and a shuttle was there to pick you up within 5 - 10 minutes. They picked you up from your hotel room to where you wanted to go and from restaurants, or from the plaza at night after the shows. No problem at all getting around and they conversed during the ride about the Valentin, the scenery , nightlife, animals, and restaurants.
Zubs
Sorry I don't have a map... you can call the front desk and they can send transportation (huge golfcart or sometimes a car) and they can come pick you up and take you to where you want to go. Building 6 was pretty close to the ocean, maybe a block or so away? Also, yes there is a huge wrap around pool (they call a lazy river-it doesn't move you, you have to swim) that goes around the buildings and ends at building 6.
Mysty
We just had a reg room and were in building 3, we found it was perfectly located in the middle of beach, pool, food. There is a lazy river on the back side of the property that has a lazy river and its own beach but the beach isnt for swimming and its a longer walk to everything else. They do have golf carts and little cars driving around constantly giving people rides. Hope this helps!
NicoleM
Although I highly recommend this resort, there was a good amount of walking involved as this resort is very large and spread out.

Is there a beach bar or waiters serving drinks on the beach?11 answers
7 years, 93 months ago
JAS
Yes, around noon someone from the bar walk the beach area offering lunch and drinks
bnthall
Yes, there are waiters on the beach. It takes a while for them to return with drinks though, even if you tip them. I think it's only 1 waiter at a time for the entire beach. There isn't a bar on the beach, but it's close.
Venessa
There are 2 beach bars that had someone bringing drinks to your spot on the beach. They also had snacks at the beach bars. There was premium alcohol and the drinks were well made. There are other bars and eating sites to get drinks. It was very easy to get a drink whenever we wanted one.
CJfromCA
Technically it's not a beach bar, but there is a bar overlooking the beach with fancy-schmancy beach "beds" maybe 25 feet from the water. There are also waiters running around everywhere.
Theo
Yes there is a beach bar by both sitting areas and there were waiters serving drinks at both.
DAWNWISCONSIN
yes, both!
NicoleM
Yes, there are bars everywhere! and a waiter will come to you while you are on the beach.
Kangie
Yes, here is a beach bar located just off the beach. In addition, waiter do come and take your drink orders on both the beach and around the pool.
smitheran
There is a beach bar right on the entrance to the beach, which was great. And they do have servers, but since they are trying to cover the whole beach crowd at busy times it is quicker to head up to the bar yourself.
ashmouth
There were two pool bars at the pool, and for the beach, there is a small bar hut at the one entrance to the beach that you can get drinks at. There is a waiter or waitress that walks the beach taking orders, but most people (if not all) that used them tipped each time.

What is the cost to upgrade your room ?11 answers
We were considering upgrading to the Emerald suite but were uncertain of the cost and if the "regular" rooms are nice we would probably opt to spend our money and squeeze another day or two at the resort...your experiences ? Thank You
7 years, 93 months ago
pablo
The best way to determine how much a room upgrade would be is to proceed through a booking until you get to the page where the room categories are displayed. The room category that is pre-selected has no additional cost assessed. The additional cost for selecting another room category is located to the right of the room description. For example, a trip in September for 4 nights booked today, the room with no additional cost is the Deluxe Junior Suite. If the Emerald Suite is selected the additional cost would be $128 for the length of stay for two people. Both room categories are very nicely appointed with similar amenities, however the Emerald Suites are closest to the beach .
ccsusan1
This may be too much information...but the Emerald suite does not have the bathroom privacy we Americans are accustomed to. The door to the toilet is not a full door.
Otherwise....the Emerald Suite has a beautiful HUGE jetted tube and plenty of room. We were in building 2 and it was convenient to the plaza and restaurants. If you want more privacy, I would recommend the swim-up suites.
(...and we stayed Sat. to Thursday....another couple of days would have been great!!!)
SusanandJeff
We were in an Emerald Suite for 1 week. The cost was $2800.00. Not sure how much more that is than the basic rooms. We loved our room, but next time we will probably go with a Silver Suite and stay and extra day. From the pictures they seem just as nice.
Shooty76
We stayed in a regular room (5 nights) and it did the job just fine. There was a king size bed, and a sitting area. The bathroom was adequate but not over the top. It was a decent size with one sink, one toilet with a separate door, shower (only big enough for one) and a jetted tub. The room still had a mini fridge and a coffee maker too. We didn't spend all that much time in our room anyway. If I had to choose between a nicer room or another day or two I would stay another day or two in the regular room!
afox23
the indoor jacuuzi is really nice but the beachfront rooms are not beachview. i'm not sure if you can get the indoor jacuuzi without beachfront. the swimout rooms aren't really swim out. . . a lazy river is approximately 15 ft away from the porch. we were on the 1st floor beach front and it wasn't worth the money.
moneyman116
I stayed in the emerald suite specifically for the ocean view, and even emailed the hotel and wrote in our cheap Caribbean booking my preference for second floor. We did not receive it and only saw jungle foliage right out our room. Unless you are booking for the huge hot tub, I personally would not book this room again. The others were just as sufficient.
IndianaSLP
We stayed in the Deluxe Jr. Suite and it was more than adequate. It had an enormous bathroom, huge balcony, and sitting area in addition to the beds. We honestly didn't spend much time in our room anyway since it was so beautiful by the pool and at the beach. We wished we had a few more days (we were there for five), so I'd definitely opt for elongating your trip!
hmorris714
When you go with Cheapcaribbean.com they usually will upgrade you one upgrade. Also call ahead and tell them it is a special occasion - the customer service and concierges are outstanding.
sherryKM
It ranges anywhere from $200 to $500
Sledge
Our "regular" room was very spacious and nicely appointed. I would spend the money instead on getting the privilege package, which allows you to make reservations at the restaurants and for palapas at the beach and pool, and gives you access to the privilege salon.
rgrm
My friend and I traveled as singles together, and upgraded to a Golden Junior Suite at an extremely reasonable cost, which was well worth it. We had complimentary robes and slippers in the room, a private pool for our end of the buidling beneath our balcony, a separate living/dining area which was wonderful when enjoying room service or when one of us was resting and the other wanted to read or watch tv. The bathroom had a jacuzzi tub and a separate shower, a separate toilet area with bidet! I say go for it and you won't be sorry!

What is the weather like in october?7 answers

The average weather for Riviera Maya in October is highest 85 degrees and the lowest is an averge of 75 degrees.
DanielleCC
Well I was there in the beginning of July and it was their rainy season. I talked with one of the workers and he said the summer (June/July/August) is really the only time of the year they get rain and the rest of the year is dry.
afox23
The weather is a very hot and humid climate.....
Bluedaddy
We were there October 4-9th, the weather was about 85 to 90 the whole time a lot of rain but, that is to be expected for October still a nice time to go

We were there Oct 5-9 and it was warm but not too hot. Buildings are air conditioned and pool was perfect temperature. It rained a little a couple of days but not a problem - twice it was early morning and only lasted a few minutes, and once it rained in the afternoon but we were in the pool and under the pool bar overhang, so it was actually quite fun!

what about if i am single?6 answers
can i get this deal if i am going by myself only?
7 years, 92 months ago

It's a little more expensive if you book it by yourself. But I highly recommend to go to this trip even if you're single and by yourself. That's what I did and I am very happy. you get to meet so many friendly people and will never feel lonely. Go have fun...
mba44
Yes, you may certainly book a trip to this property for one person. The room rate that would be charged for a single would be about the same as the total of what two people in the room would pay. However the Promo Code Beach100 would be ineligible as it requires double occupancy.
ccsusan1
You can get the deal but there weren't too many singles, mostly couples. The few singles I met were disappointed that there weren't available matches.
CoronaCowboy
This is a couples only resort it would not be fun if you were single look to meet someone.
Mels
Absolutely. You might even get a better deal than me

they dont care if your single. Just remember that almost everyone there is couples.

dos equis amber and dark and coors light. that is it.

Coors light cans, Dos Equis, and Dos Equis Amber. Canned Tecate is also in the room fridge.
IndianaSLP
Dos equis, Tecate, I believe Tecate light and Coors light. No Corona.
MNMrs
I could only find Dos Equis and Tacate
angiezaps
Not much of a variety. They primarily serve Dos XX and Tecate. They DO NOT have Corona.
CoronaCowboy
Dos Equis, Coors light and Tecate Light.
chicagotravelers
The one thing that surprised me when I was there is all of the resorts are either Corona or Dos Equis, they won't have both. It must be some kind of distributor agreement. Valentin Imperial Maya was Dos Equis. They had the typical American beers there too but I think the taps were just Dos Equis is I remember correctly. As far as specialty beers I don't know, there was a Cigar Bar that had premium liquor, they may have had other beers too, not sure. I did not go in there.
CJCreasman
They have a big selection of beers and liquors
Sledge
Tecate, Dos Equis and bud light...from what I saw.

Haha, coors light and Dos XX

Lots of variety, including Dos Equis, Tecate, American Beers, etc. You shouldn't have a problem finding a beer you like!

Great question! Only 2 kinds from what I could see: Dos Equis Lager (not amber) and Coors Light.

What are the additional costs for the upscale tequilas at the Salon Partegas (Ciga Bar)6 answers
Do they have quality tequila at the other bars ?
7 years, 91 months ago
pablo
I only sampled the tequilas at Salon Partegas. All of the bars are close together and should you ask for something special, I'm sure the bar tender will arrange to have it brought to you.
The costs are not significant. I cannot remember exactly, but it wasn't high enough for me to take notice.
Be sure to bring some quality cigars with you as those at the resort are expensive.
Riain
If you don't ask for it, they will make your drinks with shelf liquor. All you have to do is ask them for quality tequila and they will happily make your drink with that. No additional charge.
MrsDinnel
Yes

Top notch alcohol is available all over the place, no extra charge anywhere was my experience. Bars and good service abound at this resort, including your choice of wine at the many excellent restaurants.

All the liquor was "top-shelf". Bombay Sapphire gin, Cabo Wabo tequila, Crown Royal.... no extra surcharge for any of these.

Name brand booze in the Don Miguel bar…….no additional cost.

I would advise checking our website every couple of weeks. We do have available rates already for many of our properties, however we do not have promotions for dates in April as yet. Right now the best deals, with promotions, are being offered for the fall of 2011. The best deals for April will probably come out late fall/early winter. Just keep checking!

Not on site, but they can hook you up with Scuba Steve.
Scubasan
If you have your SCUBA certificate already, scuba diving trips can be booked (at additional cost) with any of the tour groups that have booths available in the lobby. My husband did a two tank dive in an underground cave which he loved!! They also have SCUBA courses they do in the pool at the resort to get your certfication.

There are some introductory "play-in-the-pool-with-scuba-equipment" activities that can be done for free in the pool area. Other lessons (designed to get a person ready for an introductory dive in the ocean) can also be arranged for a fee at the main pool. Other deeper dives for more experienced divers can also be arranged with these same PADI instructors located near the main pool.

Sailing is not one of the non motorized water sports included in the resort, however there was a water sports company set up just off property on the beach that offers sailing, jetskiing, and parasailnig. Not sure of the prices, though.

sailing IS available! they also have kayaks. it is located on the left side of the beach.

The resort did have 3 small catamarans available but we didn't use them. We went kayaking instead. Being that we were there at the low season, no one was using the catamarans, so I would think you could use them for as short as long as you liked.

AWSOME everything execpt maybe the italian place and I love italian too but was not really impressed the breakfast and the steak was amazing!!!!

Food was delicious! Desserts were good. We were able to try every restaurant. Our favorites were Le Marche for breakfast, Tierra for lunch, and Il Olivo (Italian) and Taman Sari (Indonesian) for dinner. L'Alsace had phenomenol food and dessert. Drinks were tasty. You will not be disappointed!
MrsDinnel
There are 7 different restaurants and you do not need reservations. There is Italian, French, Japanese, Indonesian, Mexican, Steak, and Seafood. While we were there about 2 restaurants per night were closed, but we still had 5 to choose from. They put out a newsletter each day that tells you which ones are closed. We went to a different restaurant every night and then picked our favorite to return to on our last night. You do not need reservations and we never had to wait for a table. They also have 24 hour room service and a bar that serves snack food later at night. The quality of the food was very good, we were always stuffed and happy :-)
Lauren435
There were lots of options, and the food ranged from good to great. Breakfast and lunch were absolutely amazing (lots of yummy seafood!) and dinner was generally good (we liked the Indonesian restaurant and the sushi place, but were unimpressed by the French restuarant)
BostonMatt
There were 7 restaurants at the resort and we ended up eating at 5 of them. All of them had excellent choices but oddly enough, none of the ones where we ate, offered Mexican fare. There is a Mexican restaurant but we just never made it there.
We only ate breakfast two mornings and both of those were buffet style. They were good and offered a wide variety. I wouldn't say that they were anything exceptional, but they were good. they offered the typical items: eggs, omelets, sausage, etc. The did have some very nice fruit options and fresh juices.
All of our dinners were gourmet in style and we both enjoyed them very much. I would say that they were 4 to 5 stars and would probably cost an arm and leg back home. The quantity was fine for us but, if you wanted more, you simply had to ask.
There were plenty of options. If you like seafood, they offered many fish dishes. The steaks were good but, that really isn't their speciality. If you are a vegetarian, there was a vegetable option at each meal as well. Since this is an adult only resort, there aren't any family style dishes, everything seems to be geared to pamper the adult palate. If you go to the Japanese restaurant, try the hibachi...it was fun and the food was awesome.
Room service was also available and offered a wide variety. It was good quality as well. I recommend the chicken taco as a nice late night snack.
I wouldn't worry about food at this resort...no matter how picky you might be, they will be able to satisfy.
I hope this helps.
mtoddg67
The food was delicious! Lots of different restaurant options to choose from: Mexican, Japanese, Italian, French, Indonesian, steak, and seafood. We ate at the buffet for breakfast and lunch every day and always found something new and delicious to try. The quality and service were impecable, and the presentation was beautiful! We were there five days but could have easily stayed longer without getting tired of the meal options.
hmorris714
There were 5 or 6 restaurants on the property. They are all themed, mexican (of course, but we did not eat there), Steak, Seafood, Japanese, Indian, and Italian I think. My favorite was the seafood and the sushi bar, the steak was good too. You can make reservations or just show up, it's pretty laid back, not like a cruise where you have to eat at a certain time. Room Service is supposed to be 24hrs too, couldn't get a hold of anyone when we called late on night though. The breakfast and lunch buffets are good. The place closer to the lobby is better than the place by the beach (more choices).
Regarding the quality, almost everything was top notch. The steaks and the seafood were great, the sushi was awesome. The hibachi table wasn't as good as i would have liked it but it was a good experience. We heard from another couple that the Mexican wasn't that good but we never tried it ourselves. Certain restaurants are closed on certain nights too so you'll have to check the days you are going so you don't miss a place you want to go.
CJCreasman
There are 5 main restaurants - ranging from steak, seafood, mexican, french and one other like japanese I think. The dinners are great - good service and nice food. You can get room service any time - free - but the menu is a bit limited but not bad. We loved the food and have been twice.

What is the minimum age-18?6 answers

Valentin Imperial Maya is an Adults Only (18+) All-Inclusive resort .
KellyCC
Yes, I believe that's correct (because the drinking age is 18). However, I saw VERY FEW people under the age of 25 @ VIM. It's not a Club Med or Sandals type of "party scene". That's not to say we weren't doing shots of tequila at the swim-up bar @ 11am (guilty as charged, your honor), but it seems to mostly attract couples in their mid 30's - mid 60's.

There is a chapel on the resort's property, however, it is usually used for wedding.
MariaCC
There is a lovely chapel on the grounds of the Valentin Maya and I believe a sunday mass is available
zoerose
There's a beautiful little chapel (seating for about 50?) on the grounds. Open air, very pretty. Wouldn't call it "non-denominational" as there was a crucifix and a beautiful statue of the Blessed Virgin. You would think Mass might be said there, but I didn't go or see any mention of it. My guess is that the chapel is used mostly for weddings. Worth calling the resort to get a definitive answer.

Transportation to and from town usually is not included. The resort is located minutes from the vibrant culture of Cancun and the world famous Mayan archaeological sites such as Tulum, Coba, and Chichen Itza.
MariaCC
There is a shuttle service that takes you to and from town. We did not utilize it, but were told at check in about the service. I am sure there is a charge, I don't remember what it is, though.
travelready
Yes you can set it up with the front desk
matt0905
Yes, $19 per person. Cheaper to do a cab if you share it with 4 people, then you can pick the amount of hours you want to stay. Playa Del Carmen is really nice, you could definately spend a whole day there, lots of shops and restaurants, close to beach.
DT11
yes there is a shuttle but it is not complimentary
you can prepay for the am or pm excursions at the travel desk
zoerose
Transportation can be arranged through the hotel, or you can book with a number of tour vendors located just to the right of the bell captains area (entrance) as you walk in towards the lobby. Olympus Tours was great for us, but others would likely be very good also. The shopping tour, for instance runs about $17.00 USD per person through the hotel, while the Olympus Tours ran us about $19.00 USD per person for a shopping trip and tour into Cancun. Other tours/trips will vary. Costs for taxis are considerably more expensive, but also less regimented.
DKKK
Paya del Carmen is the nearest town - about 20-25 min away... tons of fun!!! I highly recommend going in the early evening - very vibrant scene. Shopping, bars, restaurants, PEOPLE WATCHING... all right on one 3/4 mile street (5th Ave).
Cab from VIM was $25 one way.
VIM shuttle ran to/fm Playa 2x/day - $18 R/T
Best bet for us was to take a collectivo - only $2! For more info on collectivos, read here: https://www.travelyucatan.com/collectivo.php
rpkelly55
The hotel has a shuttle twice a day….morning and afternoon. Not sure of the morning times, but the afternoon takes you to Playa Del Carmen at 3:30 and back to the hotel at 7:30. Cost is $18 per person round trip. Cab fare (for two people) is $25 one way. We chose that option ($50 vs $36 for 2 people) but then we could come and go as we wanted. Before you just hop in any cab in Playa to go back, make sure you ask how much. Some cab drivers will say $40, some $25, and others somewhere in between. There is no shortage of cabs to take you back to the hotel, so they will deal with you! The only other and the cheapest option is to walk the LONG drive from the hotel out to the main highway and take the Collectivo (white window van usually) into town. That will probably cost you about $5. But then, on the way back, you'd get dropped off on the highway and have to hoof it back to the hotel from there.

Yes, several of the restaurants require long pants and collared shirts. There is a daily newsletter delivered to your room that states dress code for both women and men.
Rick1957
Yes there is a dress code for a few of the restaurants. Take a couple of button down shirts and a pair or two of khakis or slacks and you will be fine. I think the french restuarant is the only one the required slacks. The other places you can go into with jeans and a polo. My wife wore casual and sun dresses when we went to dinner.
Fireman804
Yes, long pants for men, no sleeveless shirts, women must wear "elegant sandals" for dinner. I walked to the restaurants barefoot and put my shoes on when I get there. Long walk and raining

Resort evening attire: ladies are expected to wear a dress or blouse with skirt, pants, dress jeans (not torn or ragged), capri pants, dress Bermuda shorts with dress shoes or elegant sandals. Sportswear, tennis shoes or beach sandals are not allowed. Men are expected to wear long pants or dress jeans (not torn or ragged), dress or casual shirt with a collar and sleeves, dress sandals with covered toes or loafers. Sportswear, shorts, sleeveless shirts, baseball caps, tennis shoes or sandals are not allowed.
MeganCC

Long pants for men and closed toe shoes for men. They also said no sneakers but didn't refuse the person in our group that only had sneakers. All but 2 restaurants followed the dress code.
ae0003
The restaurants near the beach (Lobster Pot for seafood and Tierra for steak) do not require long pants. The French, Italian, Japanese, and Indonesian restaurants DO require long pants. As a matter of fact, when I went to the Japanese restaurant (wearing short pants) and got on a short waiting list for the next available Hibachi Dinner, the hostess told me I needed to have long pants. I had to go back to my room...pronto (near the beach) and change. Men are also required to have collared shirts at these restaurants (polos ok). Not sure if all the restaurants enforce the rule. I saw men in the Mexican restaurant with shorts and no one said anything to them.

There are several bars on the property. One is a quiet sit down "martini and sushi" type bar, and the other is a sports bar with a few pool tables. There is always music and a party like atmosphere in the plaza. Playa Del Carmen is a $25 to $30 cab ride one way.

The Valentin Imperial Maya has a dress code for all of their specialty restaurants please see below:
Dress code: Casual shorts, bermudas, and t-shirts are welcome. No tank shirts, swim suits or wet clothing will be permitted. Dress shoes, casual shoes or sandals must be worn.
MeganCC
Yes there is a strict dress code for dinner. I brought 4-5 pair of shorts and did not wear a one. Swim trunks during the day and then at dinner, long pants and shirt with sleeves for the guys and dress or capris for the women. It is well worth the dress code for the food. It is impeccable. No regrets. (I live in jeans at home; it was nice to wear something different!)
Harleyman
The dress code is enforced in the restaurants. Males must wear long pants and a collared shirt. No shorts or open-toed shoes. We didn't see anyone turned away, but all were dressed appropriately. One gentlemen made a reservation for later in the evening. He was reminded of the dress code because at the time he was in shorts and tee shirt with flip flops.
There is no dress code for the buffet, or special dinner nights.

Yes - the dress code is enforced. So know that going down to the resort. The outdoor restaurants allowed walking shorts and nice sandals. But the rest require nicer dress for dinner.

yes - I did see others with portable umbrellas. We were up and walking the beach every day by 7 or 7:30 and had no problem getting a palapa. Also - most early beach goers leave by 1-ish pm. So a little later in the afternoon there isn't a problem finding shade either.
TravelingfromOmaha
We never saw portable umbrellas, but that is an excellent idea and I don't see why it would be a problem. So many people come out and put towels under the palapas and then don't show up for hours, leaving the only available chairs out in the blazing sun. A portable umbrella would solve that issue!
moey
We had no problems finding seats at the main pool or on the beach. We went daily and stayed at the end of June.
Punch
I go to that resort every year and that situation is not that bad. The place is huge and they have plenty of umbrellas. I never have a problem with that

Are singles welcome?7 answers
6 years, 83 months ago
mjones0731
This resort is an adults-only property, and singles are welcome at this resort.
KristinCC
We saw and spoke to several single people. They were there with at least one other person, though. Both male and female singles were seen.
edwint
We just got back and the bulk of the clientele were couples, friends traveling together and familes. I would not consider this a singles resort.
TravelingfromOmaha
yes there are many
gmoney52
Singles are definitely welcome. I will, however, say that the rooms are not exactly made for 2 friends who want to share a room. I say that because the bathrooms are very open. The door to the shower & the toilet are glass, so there is little privacy. There is a main door to the bathroom though that can be shut.
There were several single people there when we went last week. They were there for a couple of different weddings that were taking place. They seemed to be enjoying themselves.
clintjames77
Yes. We met two single women from Oregon on a trip and four single women from NY on a trip... but there are mostly couples.
Punch
I guess they are, did not see any though.
Loukaslou
yes, but I don't think it would as enjoyable if you're looking to possibly find another single person there to spend your time with. Singles are scarce at this resort.

What has the weather been like recently? (end of April 2012)3 answers
Hello! We're coming to the Valentin the first week of May 2012 and I've been checking the weather report which unfortunately says its raining there now and pretty much all next week ;-(
Can anyone tell me if this is a constant rain/no sun situation or if this simply means that there's rain for a bit but sun and nice weather mixed in as well?
I'm so excited to do water sports and lay out by the pool/beach and I would really appreciate any insight as to the probability of bein able to do this
Thank you so much in advance!

Rain will come in for about an hour and then go back to sunny. we went in june and had two days like that. just go to the pool and drink, then go back to beach.

Question about inclusive alcohol6 answers
Do they serve Makers Mark bourbon and Stolichnaya (stoli) vodka, and if so, is it considered part of the "inclusive" deal? If they don't have Makers or Stoli, what kinds of bourbons and vodkas are inclusive?
6 years, 82 months ago
Texas
Not that I Saw... I didn't get the privilege package... but i can tell you there is nothing in the "Mini bar" in the room besides Dos equis Tacotta and soft drinks...
zelliotts
Yes, Maker's Mark. No Stoli. All liquors are included, everything you can order other than lobster is included.
Rachael2288
All types including Grey Goose, Jack Danniels, J Walker and yes they are part of all inclusive. This is the only resort we have been to (3 times here ) where there are no limits to brands and all are included. The only exception is if you want a special non-house wine in the restaurants. PS the house wine is very good.
PoolFool
Not sure about Makers Mark but no stoli, has to drink Finland
Pelusa
Yes they do, they serve both. They have several kinds of all liquors and the bartenders are outstanding! In the cigar bar they have very good scotch as well.
LovinValentin
don't drink alcohol
tatu
No makers, but there was Stoli. There was no separate charge
jadear
I do believe I saw Makers Mark up on the shelf. I do know I saw Johnnie walker Red and Black as well. They had a lot of top shelf liquors, I think only in the French restaurant did they have higher end stuff (Dom Perignon) for additional cost.
Hope this helps

What kind of swimsuits do most women wear?7 answers

Any swimsuit which can be found in a major department store is acceptable.

I saw regular two piece and one piece bathing suits. No one was risque... no thongs or anything.
Punch
All kinds. I took both a tankini and a 2 piece.
KelMar
Whatever you are most comfortable in. There were bikini's, 1-piece suits, and some of the Italian women like to wear thong-like bottoms! haha!
Eryn044
there were all types of suites so anything goes really.

Most women wore bikinis at the pool- with coverup dresses when when walking around the resort. Others were wearing one pieces. I saw one woman (out of probably 100) wearing a thong bikini. Her accent hinted that she was a European.

What kind of beer and liquor do they serve?7 answers
Is the liquor premium? Please give the names of specific brands? What brands of Whiskey, Vodka, Rum, Gin and Tequila do you serve?
What kinds of beer do you serve?
Is the beer served in bottles or cans or is it served from a keg.
6 years, 80 months ago
Michigan
The speicific brands of liquor and beer can vary, therefore you would be best to check directly with the resort as they would be able to advise on exactly what brands they are currently serving.
KristinCC
Dos Equis was the beer I saw most frequently at this resort. Dos Equis and another brand was stocked in the mini bar everyday. They also had a lot of Coors products. If you leave the resort grounds (for excursions, etc.), you might be able to find bars that serve more imported brands like Heineken, etc.
All beer was served in a can.
Lower end brands of liquor were used to make mixed drinks, but you could request higher end brands.
JanelStrawberry
They had cans of Tecate and XX beer in the room with us along with water and soda. Jose Cuervo Gold was the main tequila but they have some others. You wont find Patron or anything, but they make great drinks.
Punch
Premium liquors served: Bacardi, Captain Morgan, Johnny Walker red label, Jack Daniels
Beer: Coors lt, Dos Equis, Tecate.
I saw some beer in cans, but lots of draft as well. I am not sure what other liquor brands there were.
CANDG
the liquor is the full range, no cheapo brands. They serve all you want of all brands, Jack daniels, Grey Goose, Johnny Walker, Sambucca etc etc. This is the first all inclusive we have been to where the drinks are the same as if we walked into a classy retaurant or bar. The staff gladly mix drinks of all types. We fell in love with the "Dirty Monkey"; half a banana, Kalua, coconut milk and vodka. Beer is generally on tap around the pool for obvious reasons to avoid glass. Some brands are in cans.
PoolFool
Beers are mostly Dos Equis amber and loger, and I did see pacifico. I didn't drink hard liquor but I don't think they are premium. You get beer from the tap or cans in the fridge.
magnus777
They had top shelf stuff, Stoli vodka, tanquery gin, hornitos tequila, Johnnie walker red and black. Beer was Dos equis XX and dark both on tap.

What is the perks to upgrading to a Golden Jr. Suite vs Deluxe Suite6 answers
6 years, 80 months ago
Florida USA
The upgrade put us closer to the pools, beach and buffet restaurant, plus an ocean view.
KelMar
We were just there and had a Golden Jr. Suite and loved it. I dont believe you get any extra perks but the room is MUCH larger and has big hot tub and I feel the rooms have a better location, little more quiet. If you are going for a long stay you have to have this room a short stay and the smaller room might be OK. I would suggest eamiling VIM and asking a room on the third floor building 6.
Costello
price wize there isnt any difference. The only difference is how the bathroom is laid out and if its open to the bedroom like it is in the silver suites.
booty63
Just a bigger room. The bathroom is separated by doors. They are beautiful rooms, all of them , Golden is a bigger room,
LovinValentin
The Deluxe Jr.Suite is a very nice room, we have stayed in this room the last 2 times we were at the Valentin. While we were there last week, we took a tour of the other catagories of rooms. The Golden Suite was by far the nicest room we looked at, even more so than the Emerald Suite. The layout, expanded bathroom, and fabulous view of the swim-up pool and the ocean in the distance conviced us to book the Golden for next year.
SusieQ2010
yes, not much difference

Is the evening dress code just for the restaurants or the entire resort?9 answers
I'm traveling with at group and some don't like to dress up while on vacation; Will the men be able to wear shorts to dinner? is the dress attire enforced?
6 years, 78 months ago
Izzy
There is a dress code at some of the restaurants at the resort. As per the information on our site, the dress code is:
Resort casual: shorts or jeans with casual tops or t-shirts. Bathing suits must be covered and dry. No bare feet are allowed. Resort evening: ladies are expected to wear a dress or blouse with skirt, pants, dress jeans (not torn or ragged), capri pants, dress Bermuda shorts with dress shoes or elegant sandals.
As far as specific information on when the dress code goes into effect or what exact restaurants have a dress code at any given time, you would be best to check with the resort directly.
KristinCC
The French and Italian Rest. requires men to be in slacks not shorts. Most places are casual!!
psychrn83
Pants for men are enforced at all restaurants, but well worth it!
LovinValentin
No shorts at dinner. Some people were dressed up, but most wore neat casual.

We just returned and really enjoyed the nightlife at the resort. They have six restaurants that only open at night and offer different types of cuisines (French, Italian, Indonesian, etc.) a few different bars/lounges and a nightly dance party in the plaza area. I would say it's more quiet than what you would find if you went into the city and it seemed like there were mostly couples at the resort, so if you're looking for something more lively, this might not be the place to go. But if you're looking for something more chill but still fun, this is a great choice!

Is there such thing as ocean view/ocean front???3 answers
6 years, 75 months ago
Los Angeles, Ca
At the Valentin Imperial Maya, the Deluxe Jr Suite category offers ocean, pool or garden views depending on exactly where in the building you are placed. The views can only be requested and are never guaranteed as they are assigned based on availabilty at check in. Additionally, the Emerald Suites are located in the buildings closest to the beach, but the view is not necessarily an ocean view.
KateHCC
There is not an ocean front. We stayed on the top floor (three floors) facing the ocean and we were able to see the ocean from our room. The first and second floors where we were you could not see the ocean. Not sure about the rest of the resort. It is very spread out.
lymc1968
Due to environmental restrictions there is no real view to the ocean as nature can not be touched to a great extend. But the place is simply awesome particularly for adults.

This hotel is All-Inclusive.
Features include:
•All meals
•Unlimited drinks, including all bars
•Entertainment activities day and night
•Non-motorized water sports activities
•All taxes and gratuities
KellyCC
Yes, the price of meals/drinks is included, unless you order lobster or extremely premium bottles of liquor. We did not spend any money on food/liquor - the "free" choices were more than enough! I would recommend bringing cash though for tipping - we tipped our bartenders, servers, and maids (nothing extreme, but a few bucks is always appreciated). Although tips aren't required, the staff greatly appreciates it and will go the extra mile for you if you do!
locqua
Meals and drinks all included, lobster a extra charge about $30 at most restaurant. Spa costs extra.
Lightheaded
yes it is an all inclusive resort so all you need to bring is tipping money.I brought 150 dollars in singles- 5 dollar bills and 2 dollar bills and still came home with 30 dollars. it's amazing how people would go to the restaurant and not even leave a few dollars for the waiters who worked very hard..if you can pay money to come to this resort then you can leave a few dollars for the hard working people.
lindseyNvegas
Some items are extra like the Lobster $40 or special bottles of wine. We tip, it is not necessary, but the service was good and they work hard and heard they do not make alot of $. We would tip bartenders, waiters, maidservice,bellhops... We probably spent an extra $100 in tips, but my husband is a big tipper.
wam65
At an all-inclusive resort, everything is included. Hence the name. All meals, drinks, and alcohol are included. We did choose to tip on several occasions when we had excellent service (which was often), but it is certainly not required. We didn't spend a cent apart from tips, excursions, and souvenirs.

If you click on the Travel Protection Plan link on the bottom of the website it will detail both policies in further detail.

We did. It covered cost of medical attention as your health insurance typically doesn't out of the country, it also covered trip cancellation and flight cancellation (both could be out of your control). Luckily we didnt need it but it was worth having.

Is transportation provided between the resort and the airport part of the all-inclusive rate?2 answers
6 years, 73 months ago
Ohio
The roundtrip airport transfer service is not included with the resort's all inclusive plan, however, this service can be purchased with your vacation package during the booking process.
MariaCC
No it isn't included in the package but I paid $40 per person for round trip transportation and it was a great choice. You don't want to take the risk of getting a taxi when you get to the airport. It will cost you more and it's better to have your transportation waiting. Cheap Caribbean uses Olympus tours and they have reps right at the resort. We used them to book 2 great excursions and they were at a good price.

What does the privilege package include and what is the cost?2 answers
6 years, 73 months ago
Todd
CheapCaribbean does not sell the privilege package, therefor to get further information and pricing you must contact the resort directly.
CaitlinCC
So I believe the priveledge package is $700 per person. We did not use package this time, but may consider it next time. The package allows you to order seafood that for normal guests has an upcharge to order (400 mxp for surf & turf or lobster-per person, per meal), it also gives you your choice of all of the liquors to have in your room (you get 4 choices), you get fresh flowers in your room on arrival, and you get a private beach or pool side padded and covered lounger (which could be added to a normal package for $60 US per person with a 3 day minimum).
So, my advise is that if you want the nice padded loungers everyday and plan to eat a lot of lobster for dinner then this package is definitely a great value. If you dont use this stuff then you are wasting money. The restaurants have plenty to choose from without ordering the upcharged seafood and the normal loungers are in nice shape.

We bought the package deal here, once you get to Cancun its a nightmare if you don't have transportation arranged. However cabs were cheap when we went to Playa it cost about $25-$30 each way, the distance was about the same as it was to the airport so I would guess you could get a fair for $30, but you have to wheel and deal. I would highly recommend just paying for the service provided here.

Valentin Imperial Maya is located 25 minutes from Cancun International Airport (CUN), 30 minutes from Cancun and 25 minutes from Playa del Carmen.

It took us about 30 minutes. The company made a few stops along the strip before stopping at the Valentin but it didn't feel very long.

about a 30 minute drive depending on how many people they have to drop off ahead of you

The Emerald Suite room Category is an ocean front room. This is the only room that we sell that has an ocean view.

There are rooms on the beach but they don't really have a view as the trees between the beach and the ocean are tall and obstruct the view. These rooms are located are in the buildings 10-14 but not sure that helps.

There are 2 pool tables at the sports bar. There didn't seem to be a long wait for them. We were able to use them without having to wait an extremely long time. We were also busy drinking bad enjoying some of the great snacks they put out.
Sunny83
you never know when there's going to be a wait it all depends on when you play pool....there are 2 tables and a small bar it's a quant lil place that's located not far from the front of the resort
lindseyNvegas
There is one outside close to the pool and fitness area and 2 inside the sports bar. No wait when we were there but it wasn't very busy when we went.

Are airport transfers through cheapcaribbean safe and easy to find?6 answers
Cheapcaribbean is offering a vacation to this resort for several hundred dollars less than Apple, so my wife and I would like to use this site. (We used Apple for our honeymoon last year). Our only concern is the airport transfers. With Apple. it was very easy to find the appropriate person and they had someone on site at the hotel we could talk to. Cheapcaribbean says we must pay $40/person to arrange airport transfers. This is fine because we still come out way ahead money wise so that isnt the issue, but we are concerned about using a private company for transfers. Can someone please detail their experiences using Olympus Tours after booking a vacation through this website?
5 years, 72 months ago
Ohio USA
The reputable company we use, Olympus Tours, takes care of each and every CheapCaribbean.com client.
MariaCC
We used Olympus Tours for our transport for about the same price you are quoting. We were pleased with the service and would use them again on our next trip. Olympus Tours has a representative that works at the resort and can offer additional tours during your week stay.
Heavyd175
Very safe and easy to find. After you pass through customs keep walking until you reach the doors to the outside. MANY people will try to stop you and tell you about certain tours etc and offer you deals to book them right then. We listened to them and were interested in booking an excursion or two until they told us that in order to get the discount we had to tour one of the nearby newer resorts which we didn't want to take the time to do. So this wasted about 20 minutes when we could have been on our way to the resort. So be aware of this.
beachguru
Me and myhusband used this site and everything ran so smooth it was almost too easy!!! the transportation bus is waiting outside and very convenient to find.just make sure when you passed through immigration to walk straight outside past the people who are offering you ride the a taxi or private car
lindseyNvegas
This is who we used, cheap Caribbean, and all was wonderful. $40 well worth it, nice vans and buses. We also arranged another outing from the hotel with Olympus, would recommend.
sassie
There is a representative at the airport exit that will guide you to the van. We had no issues. They do make you talk to the tour rep at the hotel to validate the return trip. This is probably an attempt to get you to buy other excursions, but the guys there were really cool and didn't try to sell us anything we weren't asking about. This was my second trip through CC and have had no issues.

How is the air conditioning in the rooms and restaurants?6 answers
When my wife and I stayed in the Dominican Republic last year on our honeymoon, our A/C was pretty sub-par, even though we were in a priviledged suite. There was exactly one vent for our huge room, and it was way up by the ceiling, and did little to cool the room. It wasnt as hot as outside, but it was definitely not "refreshing". I dont mind the heat, in fact enjoy it, when I am at the beach and pool, but when I come back from a walk, or the gym, or dinner where I had to wear pants, I want to be cool and refreshed. Can anyone elaborate on this convenience at this resort? Thank you.
5 years, 72 months ago
Ohio
All room categories for this resort have working air conditioners. This resort offers open air restaurants and air conditioned restaurants. The restaurants that are in air conditioning are the French restaurant, the Italian restaurant, and the Indonesian restaurant.
CaitlinCC
Our room was set to 68 degrees when we got there and we never had to adjust the thermostat. We had a few days were the temps were in the upper 80's and the room stayed right were it needed to, even with somewhat high humidity.
The breakfast and lunch restaurants are buffet style and are open air, where there are no walls that separate dining areas from the outdoors. Seating can be partial covered outside patio, or full covered inside. Very nice setting.
Dinner restaurants have 6 options, some inside some outside open air partial covered. The inside restaurants have air conditioning and are very pleasantly controlled.
Heavyd175
We had no problems with our AC at all.
beachguru
The restaurants are great, however the rooms will cool only to 67, but with ceiling fan it is ok. I prefer my room real cool at night, but this was fine
sassie
The air was ok. Could not make our room cooler than 68 degrees. Did feel cool when you come from outside. The resturants were a bit cooler. But not cold that you need a wrap. During breakfast you can request the air conditioned area.
wam65
We had no issues with the AC and we were on the top floor.

Olympus tours- what time do they pick you up?6 answers
If my flight leaves at 4:45pm on my day of departure what time can I expect to get picked up? I've heard that they pick you up five hours ahead of time... Is this true?
5 years, 72 months ago
Detroit, MI
There are a number of factors that would attribute to the pick up time at the resort. The resort is 30 minutes away from the CUN airport. Also, because it is an international flight, you are required to be at the airport 3 hours prior to departure. The exact time will be given to you by the Olympus representative, but you can expect to be picked up at the very latest at 1pm the day of departure.
KristenCC
For our trip we were picked up about 3 hours before our departure. The resort is about 40 minutes from the airport and they recommend that you be at the airport 2 hours early. We shopped at the duty free shop, had lunch at Margarittaville, walked through most of the shops, and still needed to wait to load on the plane. Olympus Tours took care of us just fine.
Heavyd175
Our flight was at 2:45pm and they picked us up at noon, so not too bad.

Is the Priviledge beach area at Valentin part of the" towel game" or are there enough palapas for everyone ?5 answers
5 years, 72 months ago
Jake
There are plenty of chairs open at the beach each day. If you want to ensure you get an umbrella spot then I might go out earlier to snag one. There is a section of beach beds under umbrellas, but these are all reserved and are something you pay extra for. It's a per day charge for the "VIP package." We opted not to do this and I'm happy we did. We like to be in the sun on a trip like this and all the reserved beds are shaded.
beachguru
The Privilege beach beds are for people who pay an extra fee to become "Privileged". Someone told us that he paid and extra $60. That might be per person. However, the beach can be used by anyone but you would have to drag the beach chairs to that area. The "towel game" is played under the pagodas--you need to get there by 7:00 to get a shady spot. Also, I think that people who purchase "privilege" do not have wait for a dinner reservation, and might have other perks, too--such as a separate pool.
2Beachlovers
I did not notice any Palapas that were available they were all reserved with names but no one seemed to be in them. We had no problem finding chairs under the thatched unbrellas on the beach. The pool are not as ease. Put we just flated in the pool.
wam65
I assume by "towel game" you mean people reserving chairs with towels early in the morning, leaving no spots for others? If so, this is not an issue at the Valentin. People do leave their towels on their chairs when they go to eat or in the ocean, but there are more than enough spots. The "Privilege" area of the beach has specifically reserved beds for those who have upgraded packages: your name is listed on a sign on the bed. The rest of us had the palapas with chairs, and there was never an issue with finding one, no matter what time we got to the beach. Since there are only 400 rooms at the resort, and many guests go to the pool, there were always open spots. Hope that answers your question. For reference, I attached a picture of a typical day at the beach around 11am.
Millers5036
The privileged package members were always guaranteed a palapa by the beach or pool designated with your name.

Is there a door on the bathroom in the Jr. Deluxe Suite?6 answers
I have read that a lot of hotels and resorts in Mexico don't have a door on the bathroom. Does this hotel have a door or is it more like a curtain or a room separating the living area and the bathroom area? Thanks.

The Deluxe Jr. Suites are perfect for friends and family because there is total privacy between the bedroom and bathroom.

there is a frosted glass door to the toilet and shower. The bathroom door is solid, however there is only a nice curtain around the hot tub which actually connects the bedroom to the bathroom. It`s not bad if you are married, someone may want to step out on the veranda if not.

how is the food?6 answers
5 years, 70 months ago
nursiness
Food quality at any restaurant is very subjective. What one person loves, another may despise. From the information posted in the reviews of this particular resort, it appears most guests very much enjoy their meals. Out of approximately 600 reviews, the average rating for dining options is a 4.5 out of 5.
BILLCC
The food was really REALLY good. The breakfast and lunch are both buffet style, but they were both excellent especially the breakfast. For dinner they open all of the premium restaurants, no reservations required. There may be a wait depending on what time you get there, but they give you a pager and there is always entertainment going on and plenty of premium drinks available while you wait. I don't think we waited more than 30 minutes any night. I highly recommend the Japanese and French restaurants. The others are also all very good. Probably the best resort food I've had.
DingoDing
Food is good to very good with lots of choices. We liked the French restaurant the best with the hibachi place a close second.
ninedogs
We were there only three nights so only ate in three restaurants for dinner. All the food is FABULOUS! My favorite was the Japanese restaurant. We didn't get reservations for the hibachi table (otherwise, reservations are not taken at any restaurants), but in the end, I was glad I ordered from the regular menu in the main area of the restaurant. It was without a doubt the best meal I have ever had. Also ate at La Tierra (steakhouse) & it was very good. Last night was at the French restaurant--very elegant. I didn't like the pork I ordered (although I am sure it was very good, just not what I expected) but the rest of the meal made up for it, along with the atmosphere. We had room-service breakfast one AM--huge breakfast & it came very quickly & was very good. Lunch is buffet at the restaurants (that are open to each other & are open-air) almost on the beach--La Tierra and La Mar (Land and Sea). Although some people dressed more casually for dinner, most were dressed very nicely. Some women wore formal cocktail dresses. You saw a bit of everything, but for the most part, people dressed very nicely. Men are required to wear long pants and collared shirts. Women can wear capris and dressy sandals, but most were in dresses.
Beachlover11
breakfasts are 'too' wonderful - fresh fruit, fabulous fruit smoothies, pastries, breads - plus so much more. The setting for the breakfast was gorgeous. It was hard to come back to simple breakfasts. For lunch we stuck close to the one near the beach - also great food. Favorite restaurant was the Japanese restaurant.

My wife and I have visited the resort twice in the past 6 months (just got home 3 days ago) and we feel the privilege package is well worth the modest fee that they charge. 1st of all, when you arrive at your room, there will be flowers and a fruit basket waiting for you... along w/ a bottle of sparkling wine and 4 bottles of premium alcohol of your choice (750 ml bottles.)
The mini-bar has beer, soda and bottled water provided and restocked each day. They even throw in a heavy canvas beach bag.
Another big plus is getting preferred reservations at all the resturants as well as palapas at the beach and by the pool... very important, considering all the sunshine there. You also have access to the privilege club-room where they have a wide assortment of complimentary drinks every day.
RocketDog
The mini bar comes with a couple bottles of water and a couple juices. 4 beers and a couple sodas. If we go again we will get the upgrade you also get a private covered lounge bed either by the pool or Beach. I would recommend the beach bc its closer to the bar than the other loungers. You are able to customize your minibar with liquor not sure which ones though
brandall
Privilege package is not worth it here. Basically all you get is 4 bottles of booze in your room and a covered bed at the beach and pool. Plenty of places to sit other than the privilege areas.
NOOKA
There is no difference in the drinks and overall don't think the privlege pkg is worth the money. All rooms have beer, soda and water in the mini bar.

They had a pretty expansive wine list. We are big wine drinkers (we prefer red), and the resort's 'house red' (can't recall the name) wasn't too bad. Not the BEST wine, by any means, but not bad at all! They offered both a cab and a merlot in their house brand.

The house wine is a brand from the maule valley in Chili. If you like wines from that region of Chili, then it is acceptable. "Upgrades" are available at dinner for modest prices. Wireless internet is usually accessed in the lobby area, however, we do suggest contacting the resort directly as they would be best to assist you. The email addresses found directly on the resort's website are info.vim@valentinmaya.com and info@valentinmaya.com.
MariaCC
Hard line internet. But most of the resort has wi-fi (by the pools, main plaza, reception). Supposedly the concierge has ethernet cables, though we never investigated.

Hard wired, you will need an ethernet cable

Snorkeling activities are included with your all-inclusive package. If you would like more information, please feel free to contact the resort at info@valentinmaya.com.
CoryCC
We did not snorkel. Beach was very rough with waves. Red flag was posted every day.
JustWannaTravel
The water is too rough to snorkel right off of the beach
GeauxMaya
The water is VERY clear and there are lots of fish. We didn't snorkel ourselves so I'm unsure how much there is to look at on the sea floor but the water is so clean and beautiful you don't need a snorkel to see right to the bottom!
Candykid20
Awesome!!!!
ROSARINA
there is no snorkeling at the valentin beach. you would have to take an excursion. there were, however, some great fish that you could see by the naked eye at the the shore line.

Beach vs seaweed...??6 answers
The last resort we stayed at had staff cleaning the seaweed on a continues bases but it never seemed to be completely gone. How is the beach here? Is the seaweed bad? I know we go right after or during hurricane season, in October, but it would be nice to have a cleaner beach than cancun.
5 years, 68 months ago
Tara
This resort is set amid lavish gardens on a half-mile-long stretch of white sand beach named Playa Del Secreto (The Secret Beach).
MariaCC
There was a very small amount and a guy raking every morning.
southernpacifico
Their beach is incredible! Clear blue water and soft, clean white sand!
Candykid20
Yes they have some seaweed, it seems like all the carribbean islands do. Florida is good at not having any, i live on a beach in Florida.
Use Googel Earth to zoom into the resorts before you go, also look at people's personal videos on youtube of the resorts and look for seaweed. You also want to make sure they have pretty colored water and waters. Some places will be seaweed and still water, like a lake. boring.
I have some video of the beach on youtube here, this video shows us walking down the beach, skip to 4:30 in the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9QqSJh_4kis
The resort cleans up the seaweed as you can tell, the video above also shows how the beach looks outside the resort (full of seaweed)
MattRachel
i saw no seaweed. the beach was beautiful. soft, white sand.
STLpossum
The beach is very clean, very little seaweed on the left side of the beach bar. Beach is really nice and is fairly wide. They have a roped off area for swimming. We went in Jan.
Nautica
The seaweed was BAD and the staff never seemed to clean it up. The water was really rough so we spent most of our time at the pool. You could not snorkel from the beach while we were there (in October).

Are children allowed on the property to attend a wedding?3 answers
5 years, 68 months ago
Kristen
This is a question only the resort can answer. It is an Adults Only property, so they may not make an exception even for a wedding. You can reach the resort directly at the following email address to ask them:
reservaciones@valentinmaya.com
RobinCC
I dont think so only because It is an adults only resort (18+). You may want to call the resort and ask to be sure.
ohsoofly
i do not know if children are allowed on the site. i would imagine no, since it's an ALL ADULT resort. the children would have to go through all of the major areas of the resort to get there, which defeats the whole "adult only" experience.

Are any of the pools heated?6 answers
5 years, 67 months ago
Washington
The pools are not heated at this resort.
CoryCC
Not sure if it was the warm weather or heaters..but the pool was always nice and warm!
Bkaetzer
Yes the pools are heated! Always easy to walk right into them.
Newlyweds622
If you go in the summer, you don't need heat. The pools were like bath water. At times even a little too warm.
KTeacher
The pools are extremely warm---84 degrees
kelbridge
Not heated when i was there. Not sure if they even have the ability to heat them. The water (August 2013) was about 75F/22C degrees, perfect. Its hot in the sun, but when you sit at the pool bar in the shade for longer than 10 minutes with a frozen drink, you may shiver a little. I'm from Florida and I think the pools were all the perfect temperature.

Do our US hairstyling tools work in Mexico? Is the voltage the same? If not, do they have the converters?
5 years, 67 months ago

The outlets and voltage are the same.
llbecker
Yes, all electrical outlets in our Mexico resorts are compatible with devices used in the domestic US.
SamCC
same voltage as US. No need for converters
IdaJose
Yes, they have 110 and 220. Most resorts, regardless of where, will have both for you. You can always buy your own 220 to 110 converter to bring with, if you need to
https://www.amazon.com/Voltage-Converter-From-220-240/dp/B001ES8YY6
MattRachel
Yes they work and voltage is the same

I worried about the same thing. the voltage in Mexico is the same as the US. What I would call 'regular' outlets. blowdryer is provided in the room but all of our electronics used the outlets in the room. All was fine!

Everything is the same as the US. They did provide a hairdryer in the room.

How are the bugs at this resort in feb/march?6 answers
Read some reviews that said the bugs here were pretty bad, now I'm not sure?
5 years, 66 months ago
detroit, mi
As this resort is located in a lush, tropical region in Riviera Maya, bugs are not uncommon.
AlixCC
I didn't see any bugs during my August 2013 trip. Rooms were bug free, all the restaurants were bug free. Perhaps you went during the time of the year they are bad. I hope you aren't referring to Mosquitos, because you're in the jungle. Don't visit tropical climates if you don't like Mosquitos.
MattRachel
It was very muggy when we were there and did not have any problems with bugs at the resort. They spray regularly. Outside of the resort you definitely need bug spray. You should bring some with you because it is hard to find there and most don't have deet so it isn't very effective
brandall
not sure about that period of time, but i will say that we had several small bugs in the room... especially in the bath and sink area. there were a few beetles in the room, but nothing terrible. make sure to keep your luggage closed.
STLpossum
I was there in January and there were no bugs at all.
ShayMat
No bug problem at all. I usually get eaten alive. If there is one mosquito in a 100 mile radius, it will find me and deliver an itchy welt that will last for a week. My trip to VIM was in April and I did not see a single mosquito and was not bitten once. There are a few bugs around, of course, but they weren't an issue for us. I get more mozzie bites in NYC when the temp reaches 60 degrees.

how are the workout facilities? Are they plentiful, up to date and in good condition?6 answers
5 years, 66 months ago
PMT
There is a fitness center. For details regard specific equipment, please contact the resort directly.
AlixCC
Lots of equipment in great working order with an indoor and out door facility. They have free weights and a wide variety of machines. Also have different classes
brandall
Some dumb-bells, 3 treadmills, 2 ellipticals and 1 lateral movement machine (like an elliptical)...the rest were all select-stack machines. A couple of classes were offered (Yoga, Zumba and Pilates) as well. The machines are in good condition, and although the facility was small, there was never a problem getting a machine.
MoonPieMe
Didn't use
homthr
The facility is nice but small. They have a covered area outside with a nice wooden floor if you chose to workout without using equipment. We found this a great place to warm up, stretch, do some push ups, etc before our run around the grounds.
They also offered yoga, Pilates, and Zumba classes during the day!
jboo
the workout facility is not plentiful. it's small and not much there, but enough to get your heart rate going. it was usually busy, which is impressive with a resort. i didn't see anything that had any disrepair. the classes are good.
STLpossum
yes.. they are nice and they also have some Yoga and Pilates classes.

is it possible to make dinner reservations at restaurants prior to arrival or at least when you arrive or do they have to be done each day?6 answers
5 years, 66 months ago
Arcem
In most cases, resorts will not allow guests to make reservations prior to arrival.
AlixCC
There are no reservations. And we had no problem eating in any of the places. The only thing you need to know is that for French and Mediterranean, men need pants.
lori13
They do not take reservations except for the Hibachi. Those reservations are done daily. We did not have any issues getting into the restaurants we wanted when we wanted.
CandiceC
The restaurants do not require reservations and we only had a short wait one evening for about 25 minutes. The hibachi restaurant does require a reservation due to limited seating (it is so worth going to dinner there) and the reservation is made on the day want to go. The reservation is made with the concierge and there are several locations throughout the resort to meet the concierge. have fun!
lovinlife50
The only place that accepts dinner reservations is the Japanese Steak house Ginger, but only for their Hibachi tables which can only be reserved the day of. All of the other restaurants are first come first serve, but we never waited and we went to dinner between the rush of 6pm-8pm.
ParamedicJess
Only certain restaurants need reservations (i.e. Hibachi). You will come across a daily journal in your room which tells you where and when to make reservations, what time restaurants are opened. It's wise to make reservations in advance only for the restaurants that gets booked up. otherwise you will also have the buffet dinner and there will be room service!

Please check with the resort directly regarding the television stations that they offer. Normally, resorts have basic cable channels.
AlixCC
You should be able to watch the game. They have a sports bar and will probably have the game on. We were there and they had a few NFL games showing.
ohsoofly
Yes they do! They have direct tv and we were able to watch the Thursday night football game on nfl network in the sports bar!
Boss5
We were desperate to watch the NFL while we were there. There is a sports bar at the resort, and they had NFL network, so I would imagine they would play NBA games when in season as well. It was a fun place to watch the game!
We also went into Playa Del Carmen to watch Thursday Night Football for a night out and it was really fun! Lots of sports bars there as well.

Is the drinking / tap water safe at the resort or should we stick to bottled water?

Please contact the resort for more information about the water at their resort. You can email them at customercare@valentinmaya.com
LizCC
We brushed our teeth with the tap water...no problems. We did however just stick to the bottled water for drinking, there is plenty of it available.
Texasgirlie
You don't have to worry about drinking water in a resort, just outside of it. All resorts have a filtration system and if you are still worry you will also find water bottles in your room free of charge to you.
ElaineMali
Hi Dylan,
I think we were drinking it and we were fine, but there is always bottled water around and you can ask them for it too!
Hobbes
Drank the water they poured at all of the restaurants and had no problem. Not sure about drinking from the room faucets, but since they give you bottled water in the fridge every day, there's really no need for that.
NewEnglandReviewer
I drank the water at the resort and had no issues, they do always have bottled water around though. even at the bars you can always ask for bottled water and the refrigertor in your room is always stocked.

Is the water at the resort purified?6 answers
Does anyone know if the water used in the resort for ice cubes, etc, is purified or perhaps purchased from a distributor? I know everyone says not to drink the water in Mexico, so I'm wondering how cautious I'll need to be at the Valentin.
4 years, 56 months ago
NYC
We decided not to drink any water. We drank bottled water the entire week, including using it for brushing teeth. They restock bottled water daily and we had no issues. That being said, everyone else we saw drank water in all of the restaurants and most seemed fine. I do not know if they actually purify the water and ice cubes.
Honeymoond
For more information about the water at the resort please contact them directly. The email address for the resort is: customercare@valentinmaya.com. Thank you!
LizCC
Their daily journal specifically states that the resort water is purified and filtered on site. You're safe. Day trips most times include bottled water and you can get bottled waters in your room and at the bars.
NEveland0628
We just returned from the Valentin. I too was concerned about drinking the water. But I think all the water they use is from purified sources. I saw large bottles of water in several locations. So I think the water they pour in the restaurants is bottled. They hand out the smaller bottles of water everywhere (from the bars and in your room) As for the ice - I don't know. My wife and I stayed 7 nights and never had any digestion issues.
Dobie
I was nervous myself when I first went to the Valentin because I heard the same thing about Mexico. I can assure you that the water is perfectly fine on this resort! The first two days, we only drank mixed drinks and steered clear of drinking water they poured for us at restaurants. Once we realized that we were drinking drinks that had their ice cubes in it, we noticed we never felt sick and were fine. The next day, I drank water at one of their restaurants and was still fine. Everyday after that, I trusted it completely and my boyfriend and I drank the water when ever. They write in their welcome note that they purify their water and get it tested monthly. If you are still skeptical, they have bottled water for you to drink also.
kellytpsu
All the water and ice is purified- we asked. But not in the bathroom. And frig come stocked daily with water, juice, and soda

How are the swim-out rooms?6 answers
How are the swim-out rooms at this hotel? Worth it to upgrade, or does it just mean less privacy? It's hard to tell from the pictures.
4 years, 56 months ago
slm1124
Definitely, if you're looking for a more relaxing experience. The swim up pool by the lake was just a quieter area.
Honeymoond
we upgraded to the swim out room and we loved it, we normally used it after 6 hours or so on the beach, it was nice to come back from the beach and lounge with a cocktail. We had it to ourselves most afternoons and in the evening, so no privacy issue.
kays33
We upgraded to the swim-out suites and loved it. They actually are very private with large hedges on either side and never could see in from the pool.
MlePayne
Though I didn't stay in one, the swim out rooms seemed nice. You do give up some privacy, however, as there are cabanas on the other side of the lazy river facing the swim out rooms.
sunnyCali
It was definitely worth the upgrade. We had plenty of privacy. Each room's patio area is separated by 4-5 foot shrubs which lends plenty of privacy if you are sitting outside your room. The buildings with the swim up rooms are perfectly situated. There seemed to be fewer people in that pool than in the main pool and it has its own bar and wait staff.
SunshineMakesMeHappy

How far or how long does it take from the airport to the resort?6 answers
4 years, 55 months ago
Lakeland fl
about 30 minutes. Please note that on your return trip back to the airport you have to get there early. We were stuck in the check in bag drop for quite some time because there were so many people and we were there at 730AM
Drake
Airport to the resort is approximately 20 minutes. Taxi is $40 from airport to resort and $35 from resort to airport. I used Amstar transportation, booked through Cheap Caribbean and it was only $30 but they picked me up four hours before my flight, which was terrible. I requested a later pickup but they refused.

It is only about 25-30 minutes but because it is more remote, you may have other stops before yours in your transport van. Also on excursion we were first to be picked up and last to be dropped off

Cancun to Valentin Imperial Maya is around 40 - 45 minutes. Most of the resorts are within an hour drive of Cancun.

How accommodating are they when you arrive before 3pm for check in?6 answers
4 years, 54 months ago
Ohio
Cheapcaribbean can request early check in (call 1-800-915-2322), however this kind of request is always based on availability when you arrive and would be at resort's discretion. Typically if your room is not ready on arrival the front desk will hold your bags so that you can enjoy the resort's facilities until it is ready.
CCGreg
We arrived at 12 noon. Our room wasn't ready. We were handed off to the concierge who walked us around the property and then took the opportunity to sell us on joining the hotels loyalty club. We didn't get a room until 3 pm.
Bopboogie
If you arrive before 3pm and your room is not ready, they front desk will still check you in. They will hold your luggage for you so you can begin to enjoy your vacation.
KristenCC
The staff is very understanding and friendly, we arrived a couple of hours early...they took our bags, we walked around the resort, got something to eat/drink. Before we knew it, it was time to check in and our bags were already in our room.
SarahL
We checked in at 11:00 am, and although they won't promise anything, they will take your bags and allow you to get yourself some food and drinks. For us though they managed to find rooms and we were checked in and ready to go in our rooms before noon.
JoeNathan
I'm pregnant, so we talked them into getting us a room quickly. It is negotiable.

Are the juices mixed with filtered water and is the ice made with filtered water?2 answers

LovetheBeach
The ice and water when ordering drinks from the bars and restaurants is filtered and safe to drink. In the room, we recommend drinking only the bottled water which the resort will supply.
CCGreg
We were really wary of this at first, too. But yes, everything you'll be served is from purified water. Ice, drinking water, cocktails, etc. Juices are boxed and ice is packaged from filtered water. The frozen cocktails were great!

Some specialty restaurants do require reservations. For more information please contact the resort directly.

No, except the japanese steak hibachi grill does require a reservation to be seated at the hibachi grill. There is a newer restaurant "THE CORNER" which you must pay extra may require a reservation because it is so limited in seating.

No. Only if you get the privilege add on. Wait times were not bad, they give you a beeper and you can go to a bar. Longest time is around 1900.

If you are scuba certified, does the resort offer free scuba diving and equipment? If so, how often can you go out to dive?
4 years, 49 months ago

Valentin offers scuba certification courses, but if you are already a certified diver, they do not allow you to use the equipment.
KristenCC
They offer a free daily scuba intro in the pool. You have to pay to go out in the boat. If I may make a suggestion, once at the resort, book an excursion to Akumal. Its a ten minute drive and home to seaturtles and the reef. We saw 3 stingrays, 6 seaturtles and coral reef. It was like being in the movie Finding Nemo. For example, we booked our excursion on a friday for Sunday(no crowds on Sun) with a cheepcaribbean.com/Amstar rep there at the resort. She was friendly and knowledgeable.

Technically yes. The restaurant that is on the beach has a breakfast and lunch buffet, as well as a fully stocked bar. However, you have to be seated at a table to go to the buffet.
The actual beach bar, which is next to the restaurant does not have food. There is an ice cream machine at that bar, though.

Shopping is about 25 minute cab ride. Around a $100 round trip. The hotel offers a 4 hour shopping excursion for free though. Not much night life close by. The Privilege Package is available to add on to your reservation as an additional fee. The price to add on is $63.00 per person per night of your stay, and have to be booked in a Silver Suite or higher room category.
Please be advised, pricing is subject to change at any time.

When we checked-in the Privilege Club was offered to us. It included a bottle of sparkling wine, four liquors in your room, ability to make reservations are the restaurants, reserve covered seating by the pool or beach, print boarding passes, and most important they will solve any problems that arise. Our cost was about $110 a day which will vary based on the exchange rate. It was worth it.
Jim44
We have been to the Valentin 5 times and the last 4, we used privilege club. I send an email to , privilege.vim@valentinmaya.com
It's $63.00 a day per person. It includes private check in and check out. Your room is stocked with 4 bottles of top shelf liquor, that you can choose. ( we always take ours home in our suitcase) fresh flowers in your room and gourmet chocolates and a nice fruit basket. They have their own private lounge, where you can get help with everything you need, get a drink and a snack. They make all your dinner reservations and lobster is included in any meal you request. The best part is the palapas ( beach beds) The beach concierges have them ready for you each morning. We love them because they are so comfortable, they protect you from the sun and if you get a quick shower you don't have to leave the beach. They also give you a beach bag. If you need anything at all, call the privilege desk and they will take care of it! If you decide to do it, make sure you sign up for their free reward program! Hope it works out!

There is an excursion called Mayan Adventure with Amstar and you can book it here with your package. It was a lot of fun. They call them Cenotes in Mexico and on this trip you do an inlet by the ocean, then an open Cenote (like a Florida spring) where you can zip line into the water and jump from a platform, then last you go to a covered underground cave to snorkel. They also do a photo disc complete with all of your pics for 35$ extra. Definitely worth it. Tons of fun and a small group.
Raina
Not in the resort. Must be an excursion. Ther are a good number of spots to dive, jump, zip line, slide into and snorkel in caves and natural pools.
PapaDude
We went to the "cenotes" with the Mayan Adventures tour. We swam in the open denote where the water is about 75 degrees and so refreshing. Then went to the cave where the water was even colder but also it was educational. Then to open water that leads to a reef which was very cool.
Highly recommend!

we are going first week of September, this is our first time in Mexico/Caribbean, we are a little worry about the weather in September.
3 years, 43 months ago
KristyW
Weather is mild in the low 80s generally during that time. Be warned that September is the tail end of Hurricane Season, so you may want to plan for occasional heavy rain. However, no one can predict the weather. For further information, please call us at 1.800.915.2322.
SamCC
We were there in September 2013 and it rained most of our trip. So there wasn't much beach time, but the air was still very temperate, so we sat poolside (under a palapa) drinking and reading.
In fact, we had such a great time, we have booked another trip for the first weekend of September this year.
Overall, I wouldn't worry too much about the weather, but you may not want to plan on working on a tan.
Veritas
I also went in early September (4th through 8th) and the weather was unbearably humid and hot, mid-90sF all week. The humidity was 100% every day. We didn't have a cloudy day which made the sun very hot all day long. I found myself walking along the pathways finding shade to walk under for a few seconds of relief. The cafes had fans going all day but I was still sweating. The restaurants (nicer eateries) had air conditioning. The nighttime temperatures dropped a bit and it was more bearable without the blazing sun, but it was still hot.

Snorkeling, no. However, it is for a reasonable price and was well worth the price.

Snorkeling is not included! I would recommend bringing from home because the prices to rent snorkel gear here is astronomical. Unless you would go snorkeling on an excursion, which they provide snorkel gear for you.

All-inclusive includes all food.
SherBear87
Food was included, but some of the options where we ate sucked. Some were just ok and only 2 restaurants were great. Don't go there if you want a extraordinary dining experience.
jennp1226
Food is included. The restaurants are open for breakfast from 7am to 11, lunch from 11 til 4, snacks are available from 4 til 6. High tea is available at 4. Dinner is from 6/630 til 1030. Room service is available 24x7.
And the food is seriously good.

The all-inclusive for this resort states:

-Entertainment activities day and night
-Non-motorized water sports activities

All food is included. The first time we went, there was one restaurant where you had to pay for steak but they changed that and the last time we went, everything was inclusive. We're thinking about reserving a vacation at Valentin Imperial Maya in the future. We are inquiring on issues there. My question is do you have many people rent cars from the airport for their stay? We are thinking that would be convenient of getting around. Also do you have shuttle service to town for shopping and excursions from the resort? Thanks. B&K
3 years, 40 months ago
California
For questions regarding shuttle/rental car service, you may contact the resort directly or call and speak to one of our Beachologists at 1-800-915-2322.
TimCC
Shuttles to the reort are the way to go. Drving is very dangerous and unpredictable. Our resort had a shuttle into Playa Del Carmen for 50 Pesos (about $3.00 US)
Vern1965
We've been to the area many times and do not recommend renting a car. In my opinion, the risk/reward is not good. You can get a cab to town for very little and if you are planning excursions, transportation is almost always included.
headbanger
There is one trip to the shopping district in Cancun included with the CheapCaribbean all inclusive package. Also, the trip from and to the airport is included too. Driving in Mexico is a very different experience from driving in the US. I personally wouldn't have wanted to drive there.
Robnotmyrealname
You will not need a car for your stay. We had shuttle served to airport and then took taxi to town. Very easy transportation and very good/nice service!

What excursions are available at this resort?5 answers
2 years, 32 months ago
Knoxville, TN
The best way to tell is to go through like you're going to book a new trip and once you get to the excursions tab you just scroll down a little to see everything. Excursions available for an additional cost include such as ATV (single or double to a vehicle), Chichen Itza, Cobay Maya Encounter, Golfing, Horseback Riding by the Jungle, Jungle Maya, Mayan Adventure, Rio Secreto, Sian Ka'an, Tulim-Xelha, Xcaret with Lunch, Xplor, Deep Sea Fishing (4-8 hours available), Dolphin Encounter, Dolphin Swim Adventure, Riviera Maya Sailing, Tulum Xtreme Snorkeling and Caves.
JeannieCC
Quite a few! We just got back from there and did an excursion to Chichen Itza (the Mayan ruins) and a sailing/snorkeling excursion on a large catamaran. They offer many other excursions and there is an AmStar representative there until 5 every day to help set up any additional excursions you might want to do
Simpy
Anything you think of. They have kiosks setup by the entry way to book whatever you want. We did Chichen Itza, ATV riding, Cenote Swim, and Zip Lining. Just be prepared to be gone from the resort wayyyyy longer than they tell you. Our 3-4 hour excursion was 7.5 hours total.
Tech515
There are so many excursions available, and you have round-trip transportation included with excursions when you book. You can book prior to the trip when booking, or when you get to the resort. There are people there to assist you on-site when you're ready to book excursions, or just want to add an excursion when you arrive, and throughout your stay. There many fun things to do, including: Chitzen Itza, snorkeling adventures, swimming with turtles/dolphins, deep sea fishing, Jungle Maya zip-lining adventures, Tulum ruins, Coco Bongo, Senor Froggs, etc. There really is something for everyone there. I highly recommend Valentin Imperial Maya. We loved it there.

Been there 7 or 8 times; never have had a problem with overbooking, other than on our last trip, we had to move units because they didn't have any King bed units available the first night.
talisman
We arrived one time when the resort was overbooked. They offered us the owner's suite and some other perks if we and the other couple with us would give up our two rooms. The suite was very nice, but one of the beds was a foldout so we declined. They were very gracious and showed us to our rooms.

Yes, all of the restaurants on property require long pants for men for dining.
JeannieCC
Yes. Men are required to wear pants and closed shoes. Ladies can get away with wearing pretty much anything (which is fine with me).

YES

What type of scuba is there on site and are there ones that can be set up off-site?

Dallas, TX
This resort doesn't really offer any on-site scuba diving. However, you can absolutely set up scuba excursions offsite while you are there, you would just need to discuss with the concierge whom will be happy to assist you.
JeannieCC
Yes they do and yes you can take ones off site

Scuba is available on site from Barrakuda Divers. They have frequent trips out in a boat. Seems like a good group of folks. Not sure about other vendors; I assume it is possible to get picked up by someone else, but the convenience of having it on site seems worth it to me. Also not sure of the quality of diving nearby. It's definitely not Cozumel, but the folks who went out with Barrakuda seemed to have a great time.

which building number is the ideal to be closest to ocean and restaurants.

kerry
If you want ocean then 9-14 (emerald jr suites)have ocean views but are far away most restaurants. Silver Jr suite was not far from anything and worth the price.
Nick22
It's based on the room type. The standard suites (buildings 1-5)are by the main pool, closest to the restaurants. The beach view rooms (buildings 9-14) are the more expensive emerald and diamond suites which are further from the restaurants. The golden suites (buildings 6-8) are kind of in the middle with the lazy river quiet pools. Check out the map of the resort on line (Google) and you'll see what I mean.
Nicoleyoung
We stayed in building 3 (not an upgraded building) and it was great. Just cut through building 2 to get to the pool, the restaurants are just outside one of the building exits, and the beach is only about a 5-10 minute walk. The upgraded buildings right on the beach didn't look that great to me (but I am sure they are),as they had a fairly skanky large pond behind it that had a smell, and the beach they were on was very rocky, so even they have to walk down to the nice part of the beach.
BuccosFan
It depends on the room category, but in general building 4 is the one in the middle so it's fairly equidistant between the beach and the restaurants.
JeannieCC
You can't have both. We prefer to stay close to the restaurants which are towards the front of the resort. The ocean rooms are at the other end of the resort. We would rather walk to the pool and beach in our swim suits than be far away from the restaurants. Of course they have big golf carts that will pick you up and take you to the restaurants if you stay out towards the beach.
Hope that helps.

Do the golden suites have an open bathroom concept like the silver suites? I do not want that. Thank you.3 answers

The golden suites do have enclosed bathrooms with doors.

There are French doors that shut to close the "open bathroom" off from the bedroom if desired. Very pretty. Makes the bathroom private.

Ideal for a girls weekend?5 answers
My friend and I were thinking of going here for a girl's weekend. We're both in our mid 60s and I have never traveled out of the country (i.e. - the United States). Is this place ideal for our girls trip? Or is it better suited for couples and romantic getaways? Thanks!
2 years, 29 months ago
ShaLar
This resort does tend to cater more towards couples, however they do have plenty of bars as well as shows and activities available that would be great for a girl's weekend. To discuss which options would be best for the type of getaway you're looking for, please call in to 800-915-2322 to speak with one of our beach experts.
JeannieCC
This place is perfect for a girl's weekend or if you want to get away with your sweetheart! I was there with my best friend and my son and his girl. Go you won't be sorry.

This resort is the best for, singles, couples, families, and whatever you name it. All kind of activities for all the ages.

MOST DEFINITELY!!!! YOU WILL LOVE IT.....
COPLAND
This resort has a night life and is great for a girls trip. Many resorts try to have nighttime entertainment but doesn't really work well and is not that fun. This resorts nightlife is seriously fun and goes late. This is not just for couples.

Do Deluxe Junior Suites have sofa sleepers to accommodate 3 guests in this room type or do they bring in a rollaway bed?5 answers
We have an upcoming booking for 3 of us in a Deluxe Junior Suite, but now I'm concerned about where the 3rd person will be sleeping.

They generally do have roll-away beds available, however these are on a request-basis only and cannot be guaranteed.
JeannieCC
They claim a sleeper sofa but when we got there- we had to get a roll away but it was very comfortable but took up lots of room.
Disappointed6
Yes. My daughter, sister and I shared a Deluxe Jr Suite. We had two double beds & the couch. The couch folds out to a comfortable bed. I slept on it for the whole week and was perfectly comfortable.
slc2town
We stayed in the junior delux suite in October. Our room had a king bed and small sofa, but unfortunately it was not a sleeper sofa and would probably be too small to sleep on comfortably. Hope this helps!

There is a sofa sleeper in the living area—with TV, mini fridge easily accessible. Also, there is a slatted room divider between the two spaces.
