More Pros than Cons

This is a beautiful resort, with exceptional service. As the name states, this resort is Grand. So much so that they have golf carts to take people around. We had no trouble walking around, but if you have difficult walking distances, you might have a hard time. The wait for golf carts can be 15-20 mins at peak hours of the day. We stayed in a water park view room, with two tiny double beds. I requested a room with a king and pull out sofa for the kids, but they didn’t have one available. They did push the beds together and bring in a rollaway bed that one of our kids slept on. The beds weren’t comfortable at all. The minibar was nice, but given the recent trouble with the minibars in The Dominican Republic, we didn’t drink any of the alcohol in it. We would have preferred the typical mini bottles of alcohol. There was a nice bottle of wine in our room, which we did drink. The resort gifts guests with a nice beach bag. That was a wonderful surprise. Restaurants: JC Steakhouse is awesome! You can use resort credits for some of the higher end items, but the already included menu items are delicious. Cuscuis (spelling?) was our favorite because of the wonderful seafood selections. My husband and I ordered many different options because they all sounded so good. Ceviche is outstanding. The breakfast buffets are delicious, no matter which restaurant you select. Water park/Kids Club: Well, we were disappointed that our kids could only use one water slide. The other slides had a height requirement of 5’3”. My kids can ride all of the rides and waterslides in Orlando, Florida, but they can’t ride waterslides in Mexico, at what is marketed as a kid’s water park? That makes no sense at all. Some adults aren’t even 5’3” tall! At least the indoors kids club was pretty awesome, with plenty of kid friendly and family friendly activities. That and the Wired Arcade saved the trip for us. We purposely selected the resort for it’s water park and kid’s activities as we didn’t want to venture out of the resort. The Beach: We are from Florida. We have beautiful beaches here, but my husband and I have been to Secrets The Vine in Cancun multiple times. The beach at The Vine is beautiful, and so much better than the one at The Grand Moon Palace. There was a nasty smell when you get close to the beach, yet not nearly as bad as the smell at the sister property, The Sun. We went there to let our son ride the Flow Rider. He had fun, but then we quickly departed back to the Grand because the stink was repugnant. It was throughout the resort. You could smell it all the way into the lobby. I would have been really angry if I booked to stay there. Luckily the only time we smelled it at The Grand was when we actually went down to check out the beach area. Once they get the new slides built, we might go back. The new slides are supposed to have kid friendly height requirements.

Excellent Family Vacation

The service was excellent. The room was huge and clean. Room service was excellent. The water park, pools and kids' club was awesome. The beach was only good for taking a nap. There was a lot of seaweeds and brown water at the beach. Everythingelse was excellent. Definitely will return.

Excellent value

Resort and its services are great. Food, service, spa, premises all outstanding! Water park adds value for kids. Only beds are small for two people. The beach and water is just ok especially if someone is looking for still, clear, turquoise water. Shows also ok but not spectacular. The deal through cheap Caribbean was incredible! Regular resort website charges were more than twice what we paid. For the money it was truly excellent. Special shout out to onsite dr. Franco; excellent and a gentleman. Must go to Brazilian steakhouse! For other travelers: tours and excursions offered by guest services are quite overpriced so look for online offers or even go the local mall to arrange. Even the ones covered by resort credit have added expenses that need to be paid. Onsite money changer pays 1-2 pesos less per dollar than market. Overall, wonderful place, services and staff. Worth it if you are ok staying outside hotel zone in a more quiet setting...

Lived up to the hype!

Family of 4 with kids aged 10 and 4. Everything was at least 1-2 levels above what you'd expect from an all-inclusive. The food was good and both restaurants that we were able to try (Tavola and Jade) were outstanding. The room was huge and nicely-appointed. The entertainment was professional and thoroughly entertaining. We saw the Elements show, Magic and Mayhem, the break-dancers and the Michael Jackson tribute show. All were very good. The service was excellent. Multiple times I had to decline food/drinks as I was either stuffed or hadn't finished my previous drink yet. Every worker we encountered was pleasant and helpful. The kids (and parents) loved the water park and kids playroom. We made many trips around the lazy river. The beach was pretty to look at and the sand was awesome, but the seaweed made the water not-so-inviting. However, I didn't notice any type of objectionable smell that has been mentioned in other reviews. The only complaint we had was with the Interval World sales pitch. Although we enjoyed breakfast with Rosalinda and the pitch wasn't high-pressure by any stretch, it was a bad use of our time, given that we were only there for 3 full days. Upon check-in, we were approached by a staff member offering breakfast and a tour for the following morning. Having not seen anything about this in the reviews I'd read, my defenses were down. The offer of spa credit should have been a red flag, but I'd researched all of the limitations on resort credit, so I didn't value it very much. And I thought a tour of this massive complex would help us get our bearing. However, I quickly realized my mistake when we were given a survey about our travel habits. Breakfast was fine, but the "tour" consisted of a drive to a Presidential Suite and then to the sales office. By the time we got to the "let's make a deal" stage, our kids were going nuts to get to the fun. It really was cruel to subject them to such teasing after a long trip to Mexico. That said, we saw enough identifying bracelets to make us think it probably was a legitimate program. But, given our short stay (and my analytical nature), it just wasn't a good use of our time. Also - we didn't check luggage - the resort offers CHI products for hair including a nice hair dryer and flat iron (from the wife's POV). We never felt unsafe at the resort and the entire complex was very secure.
